Deiran’s face lit up like a star illuminating the darkness of space.
"Did you just say yes?" He asked in amazement.
"Yes, I will marry you," Miran smiled and let out a soft laugh. Deiran stood up and hugged his fiancé, then he picked her up off the ground in a show of celebration. Laughing as he kissed her. He set her feet back down on the floor.
"I love you. Promise me that you will not leave me," Miran said. Deiran could tell she was holding back tears.
He knelt down again and slowly slipped the diamond ring on Miran’s finger. "This not only symbolizes my love for you Miran, but my immortality. I’m yours for eternity and you are mine."
"That’s from the Grodar text from ancient Bajor. How did you know that?" Miran was shocked that he described his love in such a strong way.
"I did my homework." Deiran smiled. Even Robert never used these words to show Miran how much he loved her. Deiran’s love was stronger than Miran had ever known, or at least it felt like it. "That ring looks beautiful on you, my dear."
"Thank you, the white rock is huge!" Miran exclaimed. "You know that’s a diamond," Deiran knew she was playing with him.
Deiran and Miran went into her quarters and embraced and then began to kiss. It was a few minutes afterward that an alert sounded throughout the ship.
[ALL SENIOR OFFICERS REPORT TO THE BRIDGE FOR DOCKING PROCEDURE.]
Deiran reluctantly pulled his lips from Miran’s. Then spat out in disgust, "It Figures! Well we should get used to that uh?"
"Yeah. But who cares, we’ll be together," Miran was glowing.
Deiran took her hand and they started for the turbolift that would lead to the Bridge. "We should set the date soon, don’t you think?" Deiran asked.
"Yes, I do."
He looked at his fiancé and basked in the pure joy of their relationship and looked to the future, Deiran saw a long life ahead for him and Miran.
He immediately began to think of his first born son’s name. And the Casey Admiral syndrome was already beginning to take hold. But that would be long way down the road. For now he just wanted to dock the Galaxy and get on with planning the wedding.
Something else came to Casey’s mind. He would be seeing Miran all day, he was now scheduled for Alpha Shift. He smiled. Deiran had never been happier in his life.
Hutchcraft peered around his new quarters in astonishment. The huge chamber that had been associated in his mind with only the highest-ranking officers onboard the USS Galaxy was now all his. He peered around the quarters, opening every cupboard and utilizing all the units he could see. After he had finished, he took the items he had gathered from his previous quarters, and placed them around this new room. His guitars stood proudly by on either side of his bed, and the other instruments he used sat neatly on a far table.
Finally, Hutchcraft lay flat on his bed and stared into the ceiling. 'Wow' he thought to himself 'I'm here ...'
---------------
After Hutchcraft had returned to his sense, he decided to get some work done. First off, he sent a message to all the Engineering staff that he would be holding an informal meeting in his quarters as soon as the Galaxy left for Station Beta 2.
Second, he needed to send a note to the Chief Engineer at the Station. He had already recieved a note from the station's XO that had been carbon copied to him.
Hutchcraft first looked up on the Chief Engineer. Lieutenant Commander Hanson, a character that looked more like a Security Officer than an Engineer. Hutchcraft smiled 'Sound familiar ...' he thought to himself ...

Re: Shuttle Bay Doors
Lieutenant Commander,
Greetings from the USS Galaxy. I'm serving as Chief Engineer on the Galaxy, recently transferred. I'm forwarding you the exact specifications for the broken Shuttle Bay Door. Hopefully this shall be an enjoyable experience.
Lieutenant Hutchcraft.
---------------------------------------------------------------
'Enjoyable .... yeah right' thought Hutchcraft. This looked like a dull task, but the door had to be repaired. At least the station offered a good, exciting promenade.
Hutchcraft hadn't visited any of the further away stations. He had always stayed aboard the Galaxy while the ship was docked. This would be his first real experience. He was very much looking forward to it.
Finally on Hutchcraft's list of things to do was visit his Assistant Chief. Chiron had still been under treatment from Dr.Rousseau. Hutchcraft looked forward to meeting the Tamarian as he was originally. Hutchcraft hadn't encountered the officer much previously. He hoped the Tamarian wasn't a blood-thirsty killer when in control of himself either.
Hutchcraft neatened his uniform once again. He looked very tidy, as did his quarters. He smiled as he walked out of his quarters to his new job.

"New responsibilities" The day after the conversion with Lieutenant Hutchcraft, Joerg was very nervous about the changes in security that would arise if Andrew was to leave for engineering. Before his shift began he needed to talk to Ensign Paran and see if he was able to run security during the gamma shift. Joerg entered the office and saw Paran still sitting at the desk. Just as he saw the chief come in, he stood up.
"Good morning sir." he just said.
"Good morning Ensign. How was your first shift as Assistant Chief?" Joerg asked him friendly.
"Well, there was a little, let's call it differences between two crew members in Ten-Forward tonight. But I just sent Ensign Taylor there and he solved that problem there."
"Good work Ensign."
"Here is the report on this incident sir." Paran handed him a PADD.
"Thank you. I'll take over now. Go and get some sleep." Joerg said and sat down at the desk.
After that Ensign Paran left the office and Joerg started his daily routine, reading and writing reports. During that process he found a message about the Galaxy's current heading. The destinations were Vulcan, Starbase 123, and finally Station Beta 2. Joerg wrote a message informing his security staff about the route the Galaxy was about to take, and to contact him if anyone wants to take shore leave at one of the destinations.
After an uneventful shift he returned to his quarters. But knowing that he could lose one of his best security officers, namely Lieutenant Hutchcraft, to engineering he was unable to sleep. He decided to return to his office and get some work.
When he entered the office he found Lieutenant Quall and Ensign Aaron arguing about something. As soon as the two saw him, they stopped and Ensign Aaron left the office.
"What was that about?" Joerg asked Ryan.
"Ensign Aaron doesn't agree with me on some things." Ryan tried to explain.
"And I can't keep arguing with him over that. May I please be transferred to gamma shift sir?" he asked the chief.
"I could transfer you, but I can't guarantee that you'll be Assistant Chief there. Can't you settle these things between you and Aaron?" Joerg tried to convince him to stay.
"No sir. Please transfer me to gamma shift."
"Ok, I'll do so first thing tomorrow in my shift. I hope you can finish this shift now?"
"Yes sir. Thank you sir." Quall looked really happy this time.
Joerg took some of the PADDs he was looking for and left the office again.
************* Next day *************
Joerg sat at his desk and started to transfer Lieutenant Quall on the duty roster, when the message came in he was waiting for about a day and he quickly read it. It said that Lieutenant Hutchcraft had been promoted and was now officially Chief of Engineering. The message also stated some other promotions inside his department. Joerg wanted to inform these people at once, but he decided to invited them all to his office before his shift ended.
He also started to rearrange the duty roster as Lieutenant Quall asked him to. This also meant that he must install a new Assistant Chief for beta shift. He decided to wait until the meeting to announce the new assistants. After doing the 'paper works' he left the office to get the pips for his officers.
************* 1530 hours, security office *************
The Ensigns K'arta, Mohler, and Paran were all present when Joerg all told them about their promotions to Lieutenant junior grade. He all handed them their pips and congratulated them on their excellent work. Before dismissing them, he had just one more thing to say.
"I think you all already heard about Lieutenant Hutchcraft being our new Chief of Engineering. That and Lieutenant Quall's wish to be transfer to gamma shift were the reasons why we have two new Assistant Chiefs now." Joerg said and everyone was listening quietly.
"Lieutenant Paran already did a good job in gamma shift and I hereby officially promote you to Assistant Chief of Security for that shift." Joerg added and saw Paran's happy expression on his face.
"For beta shift the decision was not so easy. You both have done a good job so far." he said while looking at both K'arta and Mohler.
"But Lieutenant Mohler here is quite new on this ship, so I decided that Lieutenant K'arta should be responsible for beta shift." he completed his speech.
"If you have any problems with your new duties just feel free to ask me. And once again, congratulations on your promotions people."
After that Mohler and Paran left the office, and Joerg started to explain some of her new duties to Lieutenant K'arta, since her shift was about to begin.

Lieutenant Joerg Sterner Chief of Security - USS Galaxy NCC-70637
Second, Troy got to move into the Senior Staff quarters, a vast improvement over the quarters he previously had. Now he actually had a living area, a bedroom, a small kitchen area (actually it was just a replicator with a table next to it), a larger bathroom (one that a claustrophobic would not be deathly afraid of), more windows, and even a small closet. Before, he had one open area where all of his furniture went, and only one window.
After settling in, Troy sat down behind his computer to talk to his grandfather. In a few short minutes, Troy was able to establish contact.
"Hello granddad."
"Well, this is a surprise, I just talked to you a few days ago."
"I know, I have some news for you."
"Oh really? Well...lets hear it" Admiral Blair's face was beaming.
"Ok...our XO was given his own command, so our Chief Tactical Officer was given the XO job. You're now looking at the Galaxy's new Chief Tactical Officer. Plus, I was also promoted to Lieutenant" Troy's face was beaming like his grandfather's.
"That's my boy! Alot of good things has happen to us lately, Brad gets promoted to XO of the Sovereign, you get promoted to the Senior Staff, and your uncle Eric gets command of the USS Lightstorm." Admiral Blair stated.
"Uncle Eric is now a Captain? When did this happen?" Troy asked.
"Yesterday."
"What class?"
"She's a brand new Intrepid class. Just rolled of the docks at Utopia."
"Tell him I said congratulations" Troy smiled.
"I will. Well, I have a meeting with Admiral Casey and Admiral Frakes soon, so I better go. I'll talk to you later Troy.
"Bye granddad." Admiral Blair's face was replaced with the Federation logo.
*** An hour later ***
The Galaxy was about two hours from Starbase 123, enough time for Troy to investigate this 'Kilroy' character. He decided to ask one of the best listeners on the ship, Liam Sketcher.
*** Ten Forward ***
"What'll it be Troy?" Liam asked while Troy sat in his usual stool at the bar.
"Vulcan Tea" was the response.
"Here you go." Liam sat the steaming cup down in front of him.
"So, Liam, do you know anyone who has the nickname of Kilroy?"
"Not that I know of. What's the interest in 'Kilroy'? "
Troy proceeded to tell Liam of the mishap with his clothes and his tea. Liam laughed.
"Well Troy, I can tell you that you aren't looking for someone named Kilroy. That's for sure."
"Then who am I looking for?" Troy was on the edge of his stool.
"No no, I'm not going to flat out tell you who it is. All I can say is that someone on the crew has been bragging" Liam replied quietly.
"Ronni!" Troy exclaimed, "Of course, she bragged the last time she pulled a stunt on me." With that, Troy stood and exited Ten Forward.
*** Ten Minutes Later ***
After Ronni had left her quarters, Troy snuk in using one of the Security Access Codes (yet another Senior Staff Privilege). He quickly went into her bathroom and emptied her shampoo bottle, which he filled back up with Orange Hair Dye. "There, now we're even Ronni" Troy thought. As a last touch, he had the computer rigged to display a note saying "Nice Hair Kilroy", once the sonic shower was in use.
*** Ten Forward ***
Troy returned to Ten Forward to continue his drink. Unlike the others, he did not say a word about what he had done. While gazing at the stars, the comm system went off.
{All Senior Staff, report to the bridge for docking maneuvers.}
Troy quickly got up and headed to the bridge.
Lieutenant Troy Blair,
Chief Tactical Officer, USS Galaxy
Ensign Paran and Cadet Campbell where touring the ship, and after reaching the last destination, Cadet Campbell finished with, "...and this is the main shuttle bay. It's kind of demolished, but you know that" Christopher paused. "What did happen? There was a lot of talk about it, but no one I've talked knows what happened. But you do, don't you?"
"It's a long story", came the reply. "Perhaps you would want to hear it over a cup of tea or something?"
Christopher smiled. "Sure!"
"Okay, well, I know we've been to ten forward already, but say we head back there?"
"Lead the way, you can tell me about the shuttlebay doors now."
Ensign Paran began to tell the story and continued until the reach ed ten forward and then continued on, each with a cup of tea in hand.
"So that, is basically it." concluded Chanor, after a good 30 minutes. "Lt. Chiron is now in sickbay, being stabilised after the event, and Lt. Hutchcraft has taken over as Chief engineer. We're now on our way to Station Beta 2 to get a new shuttle bay door."
"Well, I thought that we had some adventures on our ski trip. I thought it would be all dull and boring on the ship." said Christopher.
"Huh? I thought the ski trip was all play? Am I wrong?" asked Chanor.
"Well, a bit. It's a long story." continued Christopher.
"Since Gamma shift is still a couple of hours away, we appear to have plenty of time."
"Okay, well the first thing that happened was the murder of a ski guide....."
The two men continued to fill each other in on events during the mission, and after a hour, Chanor stood, saying he had to get ready for his shift.
"I'll see you after Gamma shift then Cadet?"
"Yeah, sure, thanks Ensign."
Chanor headed out of ten forward and to his quarters. Along the way, his communicator was paged.
[Sterner to Ensign Paran.]
"Paran here sir."
[Ensign, I have good news for you. In the upcoming Gamma shift you'll be temporarily in charge of security as Lieutenant Hutchcraft is preparing for his engineering exam. Can you handle this?]
"Yes, I think so sir. Thank you sir."
[Well, I'll see you tomorrow morning after your shift to discuss your progress. Sterner out.]
Ensign Paran hid his smile quiet well on the way to his quarters to get ready. Assistant chief. That was a bit of responsibility. He'd remembered Lt. Hutchcraft complaining about the paper work that always had to be done. He hoped that wouldn't be the case with him.
----------------------------
Gamma shift started fairly quietly and progressed that way. A minor event in ten forward that night, required Ensign Taylor to be sent there. The two crewmembers concerned were quickly told to pack up and leave, and Paran filed his first report on the event. The next morning, Lt. Sterner came in and spoke with him.
"Good morning sir." he said, standing.
Paran headed down to his quarters and fell asleep almost straight away. It had been a long night and he had been up a while. He'd missed Cadet Campbell that morning, but maybe he'd see him again later.
----------------------------
The next day, Paran was called back to Lt. Sterner's office, with Ensign Mohler and K'arta. After a short speech, he found, quiet surprisingly, that he'd been promoted to Lieutenant JG.
Better was too come. He heard that Lt Quall was transferring to Gamma shift, and expected to be relieved of his position, when suddenly Sterner stated,
"Lieutenant Paran already did a good job in gamma shift and I hereby officially promote you to Assistant Chief of Security for that shift."
At that, Chanor had to smile. He was becoming quite bad at hiding his feelings now, and more likely to open up. However, he thanked Lt. Sterner and headed down to the holodeck. He felt like a bit of relaxation, and nothing could be better, than killing a couple of dozen Cardassians on the holodeck.
Lt. JG Paran Chanor USS Galaxy
"It appears you have lost your way," the woman before him said.
Ensign Jacob Vincent Chandler stared at the endless beauty before him. She stood as tall as his shoulder, yet carried herself with a strength even greater than his. This was on of the moments in his life that he felt he should live for. Beauty, truth, light. True, he would have rather carried on with his duties aboard the Galaxy, but when time and space were halted to revolve around him every once in a while, each time became it's own revelation. He had seen this woman before in many of his visions, his sightings. He coudn't be sure what to call them; an expression of his subconscious, perhaps? His mental powers far beyond any of the several races he had come across in his life, he was not exactly sure of his own capabilities.
"My way," he asked the beautiful woman before him.
She leaned in front of the door of a stone archway, her brown hair draping down onto her shoulders in a wash of sheen and silkiness, "The path you were to travel," she explained cryptically.
"You mean my pagh isn't off-center," he asked, remembering his previous encounters with Kai O paka and her ilk. They always seemd to show him a part of his life that meant a lot to him; always int hose places where he felt had a spiritual connection beyond the normal embrace of telepathy. "My soul isn't wandering the Prophets' path?"
The woman slumped visibly, spurned, but not angered or hurt by his remark; more disappointed than anything else. "Really, Vincent, why don't you let go when you're here. This is a place for you; your place, Vincent. Enjoy it."
"This place is not mine," Vincent said, looking down at one palm-up, furred palm. "I do not understnad what the point is," he admitted. Something tickled the back of his mind. The woman relaxed slightly and moved toward him.
"There is no need for understanding, Vincent," she explained with a sigh. "This place is here to understand you; to accomodate you."
"Is this the part where you spread your arms and proclaim "I am the goddess of empath--"
"Vincent," she snapped, "really." She wanted to tell him something. Vincent moved forward at her, beginning to grasp the meaning behind her cryptic speeches.
"What is it," he said. "You want to tell me something; I know."
" . . . " She stared at him.
"What is it you want to tell me?" He knew that this was somthing important; he could feel it. Could know that what she wanted to impart would answer so many of his questions, that he --
"My name," the woman said, pulling him from reverie.
This is it; here it comes, Vincent thought. Aloud, he said, "What is it? Why is that so important?"
"Catherine," she told him, spinning his mind into oblivion. Suddenly, he could not think; his vision blurred. He passed out for a moment. When he awakened, he was still sitting at the bar, talking to Liam Sketcher.
Liam leaned forward over the bar, red light bathing the lower edges of his face, "You mean my friend's source was your friend Worf?"
Vincent quickly collected himself, returned himself to a frame of mind to live his actual life. "That's the one," Vincent said. "His great-grandfather and mine were compartriots in the first campaign against the Federation."
Liam's eyebrows raised as if he were impressed. "Not quite something to brag about," he told the man. "I didn't even know that Caitians and Klingons were united."
"Ancient history," Vincent told the man, just noticing that he had had a glass of Tula Berry Ale, and deciding to take a sip of it. "They aren't any more," he added after cleansing his palette.
Liam moved away from Vincent as another customer called his name, "We'll have to talk sometime, Ensign," Liam called. "Come in anytime."
Vincent sipped his Tula, thinking of the events of the day . . . trying to remember . . . a name?
He laughed.
The entity was gone!
Rousseau came running in to the room, confused by the laughing.
Chiron looked at her, and opened his mouth to speak...
He heard nothing.
He could feel the vibrations of his voice resonating through his chest as he tried to tell the doctor that he was fine. He stopped, and motioned for a PADD.
She gave the PADD to him, and he began typing.
*I can't hear, and I have an atrocious headache!*
He handed the PADD to her, and after she looked at the writing, she typed back.
*You're suffering the after effects of the transport... I can suppress the pain of the headaches, but I'm afraid I can't do anything about your hearing for now.* Chiron absorbed the information, and dropped his head. He would not be able to hear his music, or even the voices of the rest of the crew again...
Rousseau took the PADD back, and typed another message.
*I'll work on a way to repair your ears, but for now, you can keep this PADD with you.... Then there's always your telepathy...* Chiron perked up a bit.
*I've found that your telepathic power has been increased by about 200%... maybe a result of the entity's control... Any telepaths... even empaths... should be able to communicate with you.* He read the response, and then typed
*May I go back to work ma'am?* He gave her the PADD and waited for the response.
The Schizoid Man
Ronni had two hours to go before the start of her new shift. She was excited about the promotion to Asst. Chief of Science. She was currently trying to catch up on several things before she had to go. "Morris to K'arta"
"K'arta here, Ronni, what's up?"
"Congradulation on the promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade. I guess I can't boss you around any more."
"Ha ha. I just heard about your promotion too. Want to celebrate tonight?"
"Yes. I'll meet you at Ten-Forward right after shift. Morris out."
Ronni sat down at her terminal and had the computer send Lt. Blair a bouquet of yellow roses and a note "Truce. I liked the orange hair bit, but I had to declare a truce or to assault you physically. I had a bad allergic reation to the dye you greasy little 'Gree'tan'. K'arta and I will be in Ten-Forward tonight right after Beta Shift if you would like to join us. In the flavor of the Vulcan greeting, Go Broke and Die Young!! See you tonight."
Ronni chuckled to herself and ran through the calculations for her pet project. The holographic Ops station would be completed soon and she could then submit it for approval of Starfleet Sciences. Then she could begin her next project. She wanted to build an android, after the fashion of Harry's. Happily she finished the recalibrations and then headed for the bridge.
Ensign Thomas Enquist was happy to hear about the upcoming visit to Station Beta 2. This was a golden opportunity to visit an old friend, lieutenant jg Jack Straker. They graduated at the same time from the Starfleet Academy, and was best friends there. Jack is a computer wizard, and a prankster. He did many delightful tricks upon the Academy Faculty and on other, stuffy cadets. This time, Thomas wanted to party. The Young Ones are established for such a worthy cause. Time for a message to Jack.

********
Greetings, old friend. As you must have heard, we are coming to visit you and to liven up your dull lives for a while. I am looking forward to the dinner you promised me the last time we met. No replicated stuff, I get a lot of it here, and you should be able to lay your hands upon some good stuff, as you are on a big station, with many traders coming and going. In fact, I propose a challenge. I dare you to create the most exotic dinner available, with ingredients from the following planets: The Human homeworld, The Klingon Homeworld, The Bajoran Homeworld, The Romulan Homeworld, The Betazed Homeworld, The Cardassian Homeworld and The Ferengi Homeworld. If you can get the ingredients, and you can create a tasteful dinner from it, I will let you give me a suitable task to fulfill.
If you fail, you will have to do a ‘punishment performance’ that you remembered from the Academy. I trust that you will do your utmost to avoid that embarrassing situation. As this is a valid challenge, you are allowed to choose a second, to help you with your task. I will try to find one myself.
It’s good to see you again, and to be able to revenge the last time we made the challenge, when I lost. I will win this time. Your friend, Thomas.

Thomas left the communication console, and began to wonder who to ask to be the second, this could get serious…..
B2: "Repairs and Shields" Lt. Seles was in airlock 12 replacing a shorted out console. The Engineering crews were busy replacing the docking clamps and repairing the hull. There were crewmen outside the station in environmental suits doing repairs. She wondered how much, if any, damage the Llaiir sustained. She hoped it was a lot. Damn Romulan.
Seles was happy with the data they obtained, but hadn't expected an explosion. Katarina thought that at most there would have been a firefight in the Docking Bay. She must have gotten some valuable information to warrant tr'Herrian's reaction.
Katarina decided to take a short break and headed for the mess hall. On the way, she ran into Ramone and Ibor. She walked up to them and said, "Hello, I received all your messages regarding the redirective shields. We do need to test them, but I think we can do it before the Galaxy arrives. I am not sure how long the Galaxy will be here and I want to try to get as much done as possible. We do need to wait for the Galaxy before we can take the shields off-line for the shield remodulation project."
They both nodded and she continued speaking. "If Chief Winston can spare a shuttle and a pilot, then we can go ahead with the testing. I think we only need one shuttle and I think he will only give us one shuttle. If you need a volunteer pilot, I can do it. Any questions?"
The idea of shooting at the station and having the phasers bounce back at her and through her shields didn't sound very appealing, but she certainly couldn't order someone to do it. Katarina thought that Cohen would want to say something about this but he was still unconscious in Sickbay.
Doctor Rousseau looked at the padd, then back at Chiron. He was anxious to get back to work... he had spent too much time away from his duties... She typed on the padd again.
*I'd prefer you stay put for a while. You may go to your quarters, maybe try some holodeck programs, but I think it best to stay on medical leave for at least two more days. After that, hearing or not, I'll let you go.*
Chiron felt a little better, but he didn't like the Idea of having to stay homebound for two more days.
*If you say so, Doctor. I will return to my quarters.*
He got up to leave, and Jaqueline prepared to return to her office, but before he took a step, he turned and tapped her shoulder.
{Will I hear again?}
The Doctor was startled to hear the Tamarian's voice inside her mind, but then regained her composure. She should have expected this, his telepathic powers had increased, but she never expected...
{Doctor, will I hear again?}
She took the PADD and typed. *I'm not sure right now, Chiron, but If I find something, you'll be the first to know.*
{Thank you.}
He exited the SickBay, and proceeded to his quarters. When he got to the door, there was a different name on it. Odd... he thought... He began to verbally request a locator on his quarters, when he stopped himself, and tapped on a console instead. It told him that he was now the Assistant Cheif Engineer, and Hutchcraft was the new Cheif. He got the location of his new quarters, then walked to his new room. When he arrived, he went to the bedroom and let himself enjoy the first calm sleep he had had in months.
" Communications " **** XO's Office ****
Coe sat in his new office. At his new desk. On his new chair. The nameplate on his desk had recently been placed and now Coe was making his own personnel adjustments to the room. He placed the photos of his family and former starfleet academy buddies on his mantelpiece, along with his gold plated model of the USS Melbourne, and USS Saratoga.
He walked over to the rooms replicator, the office was rather large and was situated on deck two, one floor beneath the main bridge and on the same floor as security and the other senior staff offices. This way, the first officer was readily accessible and always available for the crew.
From the replicator, Coe ordered a simple tea. He did not usually drink it, but felt that as a first officer, it was his responsibility. He smiled at the thought. And instead, he dispensed with the tea and ordered an orange juice.
He returned to his desk and activated the desk laptop. Sipping his juice in the process.
" Computer, display all messages." Coe commanded. His mouth still somewhat filled with juice. The blank screen flickered and was replaced with a list of messages that was awaiting Coe's attention. The usual department and shipwide status reports were present. He read them briefly. He was pleased to note that Lt Hutchcraft had been promoted and given the responsibility of chief engineer of the Galaxy. He sent him a brief congratulations note.

Subject: Shore Leave
I too look forward to your visit. If you would like, I will prepare the Station for your crew's shore leave. Enclosed are some of the shops on the station that may be of some interest. I personally would recommend King Latnuim's place and Electra's Palace. King's is a good bar, the Palace has they best food and more 'atmosphere'. Ms. Dee Dee Dubois spcializes in the exotic.
Until then,
Cmdr. Morris
P.S. You are welcome to give my sister, Lt. Jg. Morris, all of the extra duty and trouble she can handle.

"Now, back to work!" she said.
After receiving a message from Ronni asking him to join her and K'arta in Ten Forward and calling for a truce, he accepted. They were easy to spot in the crowded lounge, since Ronni's hair was still somewhat orange. Troy walked up to their table and took a seat. He noticed they had a bottle of champagne and some food. "So what's the occasion?" he asked.
"We're celebrating" K'arta said.
"You're still celebrating my promotion? Man...you guys are good friends."
"Don't flatter yourself Troy, we're celebrating our promotion." Ronni smiled.
"I know, I know. Congratulations."
"Thanks" replied K'arta.
"Hey, you guys wanna celebrate in the holodeck? I've got sometime I haven't used yet." Troy stated.
"Sounds good to me" Ronni said.
"Alright then, meet me in holodeck 1 in ten minutes. And don't worry about what to wear, I've got the perfect program."
With that Troy stood up and exited Ten Forward. On his way to his quarters, Troy ran into Deiran who looked like a Ferengi who just found a chest full of gold pressed latnium. "Hey Deiran, what's going on?"
"Not much my good friend. Just in a good mood!" Deiran exclaimed.
"So I've noticed. You patch things up with Miran?"
"Yup, she accepted my proposal!"
"Well, Congratulations you ol' dog" Troy said as he shook Deiran's hand.
"Thanks. But don't ask about a date, we haven't set that yet."
"Well, this is cause for celebrating. If you want you can join Ronni, K'arta and myself in holodeck one in about ten minutes"
"I may show up. Right now I'm going to meet Ti."
"Ok well I'll see you later man." They went their separate ways.
*** Ten Minutes Later, Holodeck 1 ***
Troy was the last to show up, Ronni and K'arta were waiting with arms crossed in the archway. They entered the holodeck and Troy gave the command for one of his programs to begin. "Computer, begin program Blair Gamma 1."
The computer acknowledged. The black and yellow grid was quickly replaced with a beach that resembled that of one from Earth's Caribbean region. People dressed in popular 24th century swim attire were scattered all around the beach. Some were walking, some were sun bathing, some were out in the water, and some were socializing at one of the open air bars. Ronni and K'arta looked around, smiled and sat down in the sand. "Well Troy, I must say this is a nice program." K'arta said.
"This one? Naw..it's one of the least relaxing programs I've got." Troy replied.
"If this is the lease relaxing, then I would love to see the most relaxing you've got." Ronni stated.
"Maybe later, but I haven't been in this program in a while." Troy began to look around the beach with an intense glare. Over in the bar, a band was up on stage playing reggae music, people began to gather around and dance. Ronni and K'arta started to get up and head toward the bar, but Troy stayed where he was standing.
"Well, you coming with us or not?" Ronni said looking back at him.
"Naw, I think I'll stay right here." he replied.
"You're on a beach during a party and all you're going to do is stand there?" K'arta said.
Troy nodded his head for his answer.
"Ok..but you're going to miss out on your own program" Just as they began to walk over to the bar, a loud explosion echoed through the beach. People began to scream and run in different directions. Chaos had broken out. Off to the distance, a horde of Jem'Hadar soldiers could be seen charging in their direction. Ronni and K'arta both looked back at Troy.
"Well, what can be more relaxing than bashing a few Jem'Hadar heads?" Troy smiled.
Lieutenant Troy Blair Chief Tactical Officer, USS Galaxy
" Discussions: part one" **** First Officers quarters ****
Coe stood, staring out his window at the stars as they passed slowly, peacefully by. He wondered what others might be doing as the various star systems became a figment of Coe's memory.
" THE TIME, IS 10:00 HOURS." Coe was stirred from his day dream as the computer reminded him of the appointment. He sighed, taking one last look at the stars before tidying himself up (a first officer always had to look respectable) and then heading out the door.
**** XO's Office ****
Coe's office was spacious to say the least. It was a far cry from the cramp office area that was assigned to the chief tactical officer. The room contained a large desk made of pure earth oak, (not the replicated stuff Coe noticed with satisfaction) which was situated next to the large window into space which Coe was so fond of. As well as that, a set of shelves, a replicator and even a small conference room big enough for the senior staff, was availiable through a doorway near the desk.
He checked his mail messages and noticed a reply from Commander Morris. He would be meeting with the Galaxy's key personnel in a matter of minutes to discuss the upcoming situation. After, he would update Commander Morris on the events. He read the rest.....
**** First Officers Conference room, 10 Mins later ****
Lts Blair, Sterner, Casey, Morris(Science) and Hutchraft were all seated at various seats around the table, Coe noticed this as he walked into the room after gathering the necessary information from his office. The room resembled the Captains conference room but was slightly smaller and less luxurious.
" Thankyou for coming people." Coe said this as he sat at his seat.
" I have asked you to come today to discuss certain issue's regarding the upcoming docking at Station Beta two. As you all are probably aware, the Galaxy will be responsible for the safety and well being of the station whilst STB2 brings their shields offline to reprogram the modulation levels. Which means we must be completly prepared to handle any possible threat that could arise. Remember, STB2 is on the frontier of explored federation space. Meaning ANYTHING could happen out there. We would be without assistance for sometime due to the fact that the closest starbase is 2 days away at maximum warp. So, I want to be prepared." Coe finished what he was saying and handed out a pile of PADDs to the officers in the room. Before he continued.
" Lt Blair. As usual the tactical issue will be handled by you. I want you to read up on, and prepare for a conflict with all known alian vessels which could pose a threat whilst we are stationed in the beta quadrent. Coordinate your actions with OPS to gain the maximum amount of strength this ship can put forward if the time arrises. Run simulations on the holodeck, the usual package. You know whats needed. " Blair nodded his head seriously.
" And contact the tactical officer of station beta two and coordinate-discuss possible threats with him/her understood?" Coe looked intently at Blair.
" Yes Sir." Blair nodded.
" Great. Now, Miss Morris, Your next............

USS Galaxy Lt. Deiran Casey "A New Family" Casey commanded the computer to get his parents on the com. He had reserved the holocomm for an hour. It was fairly new to the crew of the Galaxy and so it was kind of a novelty.
Three minutes later, Admiral Thomas Casey and Doctor Allison Casey were standing in front of Deiran, looking up and then down at his hologram as he looked at theirs.
"Hello Mom, Dad. I’m calling because I have good news."
His parents looked at him, then looked at each other. "First of all, hello son, second of all congratulations." His father seemed very happy, his mother looked like she had just lost a son.
"Thank you. Miran accepted my proposal. She and I will be getting married soon. We’re making all the plans now, I wanted to let you know we haven’t set the date, but it will be soon. She’ll be here in a few minutes. I wanted you both to know how nervous she is to talk to you. Her family was killed by the Cardassians during the occupation, she doesn’t have any real family except us, so be nice and understanding. She’s very sweet and extremely shy." Deiran didn’t want to tell them that she had the Stephin family as a surrogate family since Robert died. His parents wouldn’t understand.
"You really love her Deiran?" his mother asked with a sad expression on her face.
"Yes. Mother. I suggest you treat her with respect and love her whether you want to or not, or you won’t be seeing me much. She’s the love of my life and I don’t intend to have 2 of my 3 favorite women not get along. Just wanted to make that clear."
"You did Deiran, I’m sure I’ll like her very much."
His mother was put in her place, but she didn’t like it.
"And Mom, Miran needs a mother too. She hasn’t had a mother since she was in the Cardassian labor camp. She’ll need you to be a mother as well as a mother-in-law. Can you do that for her as well as me?"
Dr. Casey perked up at that, "Sure, I would love to."
"See, mom, you’re gaining another daughter, not losing a son," Casey smiled at his mother’s holoprojection.
"Well, she can have children right? The Cardassians didn’t hurt her in that way, did they?" Dr. Casey emphasized the word "way."
"Yes, mother, she can have children. In fact we’ve already talked about it."
As Deiran finished the sentence Miran came into the room. Deiran saw her eyes and face looking pale, her hands were shaking like they were cold. He knew she was just scared and shy.
Miran stepped onto the holoprojection grid. She was wearing a beautiful white dress, she was just radiating beauty like a flower in bloom. Deiran put his arm around her as he began, "Mom, Dad, it is my great pleasure to introduce to you my fiancé, Ti Miran."
"Hello, Admiral, Dr. Casey, it is an honor to meet you both." Miran looked like a little girl who was hiding behind her mother for protection, only she was squeezing Deiran’s hand, practically breaking it. Deiran didn’t notice the pain.
"Well, Miran, you are a beautiful young woman. I can see my son has great taste. Welcome to the Casey clan!" Admiral Casey said the words as if he were jolly ol’ saint nick wishing all a Merry Christmas. It was actually quite funny. And it showed Deiran that his father thought Miran was beautiful. He usually didn’t react to other women except his own wife.
Dr. Casey smiled, and spoke in a demure tone,"Miran, my husband does not exaggerate you are stunningly beautiful. I am very happy to meet you. I look forward to talking with you in person. I see my son has chosen well." Dr.Casey looked Miran over. Dr. Casey scanned Miran with her eyes like she would use a tricorder to search for a disease or a mineral. It was an electric moment, no one really knew what to say. Miran wasn't exactly going to break the silence.
"Miran, your Starfleet records indicate you are a fine pilot. You have a very impressive record." Admiral Casey wasn’t just making small talk now, he was serious. Deiran could see that his father liked Miran. He was happy about that. His mother on the other hand wasn’t too sure what to think of Miran yet.
"Thank you sir," Miran responded, blushing.
This kind of conversing went on for twenty minutes. Miran was interrogated about everything in her life, her likes, dislikes, her hobbies. Deiran told his parents how they met. Miran was feeling like she was caged. She thought the Casey’s were nice people, but she felt like she was on trial.
The holocomm time was up and both parties said their good-byes. The hologram’s of Deiran’s parents faded away and it was just him and Miran, still standing on the holocomm platform.
"I’m sorry about that. I didn’t think they’d ask you all those questions. But, you were a lady and handled yourself perfectly."
"Thank you, honey. I thought I was going to pass out, I was so nervous."
"Your shyness is one of the things I like about you." Deiran was smiling down at her as he spoke.
"Your mother doesn’t like me," Miran commented.
"My mother has never liked any of my girlfriends. Give her time. If she doesn’t like you, she could lose a son. I don’t think she wants that to happen."
"Deiran! No! I don’t want to come between you and your mother."
"You won’t Miran, I’ll put my Mom in her place. She knows not to overstep her bounds when it comes to you. In fact, she’ll be very sweet to you. She’ll be like your mother. Just be nice, gi
ve her time to adjust and you’ll be like mother and daughter."
Miran didn’t respond to Deiran’s words as they exited the room.
*** 2300 hours ***
Deiran had walked Miran to her quarters and was now sitting at his desk in the Chief Ops office. He was working on the power configuration ratios of Station Beta Two. He set the PADD he was reading down on the desk. And looked around the office. He had to admit it would be tough being in this office, with all these Vulcan paintings and artifacts decorating the room. But, he wasn’t going to change anything because Mr. T’Lein would be back and Deiran respected him enough to leave everything in its place.
He drank a bit of his Earl Gray tea and went back to reading the PADD.
The computer beeped and said [Incoming transmission from the USS Enterprise-E.]
Deiran was taken back by this. He knew no one on the Enterprise. "Computer who is the transmission from?"
[Unspecified.]
"Display transmission," Deiran commanded the computer.
Seconds later, he was staring at the most famous Captain in Starfleet. Deiran was shocked to see Captain Picard.
"Hello Lieutenant. I see your busy. I won’t take much of your time," Picard took a sip of his Earl Gray tea and continued,"I know you are familiar with Commander Data. He has informed me that he is transferring to the position of Chief Science. He will also stay on as my second officer. Which leaves me without a Chief of Operations."
Deiran just stared at the screen at one of his heroes, he almost idolized Captain Picard.
"Commander Data has set the standard for Operations, sir. I wish him well in Science." Deiran couldn’t think of anything else to say.
"I have been parusing Starfleet files looking for the best available Operations Officer to be on my senior staff. And you are at the top of the list Lieutenant Casey."
Deiran’s heart wanted to jump through his throat. Chief Ops of the Enterprise!
Deiran thought of Miran, would she transfer? How would she respond. Deiran knew he couldn’t pass this up. But, what about Miran?
"I’m truly honored Captain. When will I need to make my decision, sir?"
"Three weeks Lieutenant. I hope you make the right choice. You have an excellent record and will fit well on my ship, Lieutenant, I look forward to your decision. Picard out."
"Aye sir, and thank you."
The captain heard Deiran say thank you and nodded and the screen went black and showed the Federation insignia.
Chief Ops on the Galaxy. Or Chief Ops on the Enterprise. Deiran knew that he would go back to being the assistant Chief of Ops when T’Lein returned. The only thing keeping him here was Miran. But, he couldn’t let his career suffer. Talk about your rock in a hard place. He had to marry Miran soon, he had to tell her about this. He prayed she would come with him. But, he couldn’t make her.
Deiran left the office and went to Miran’s quarters.
The door opened and Miran was reading , sitting on her couch. Deiran walked in, a huge smile on his face,"Miran, I just spoke with Jean-Luc Picard. He’s asked me to take Chief Ops aboard the Enterprise."
Miran jumped up off the couch, smiling and then her demeanor changed as she thought about it, "What about our wedding?"
Deiran returned,"We have to get married soon, in the next three weeks actually. But, this doesn’t change my love for you or our life together. I can always get you transferred with me. But, it’s your career and your decision. But, you aren’t backing out on me. I’m still going to marry you." Deiran smiled and hugged her. Then he kissed her. Again and again.
Captain's Log: Stardate 49705.7
The Galaxy is presently on route to Station Beta Two in the Beta Quadrant. We are headed to the Federation space station to undergo repairs to our main shuttle bay doors. The doors were damaged back at the Moudini nebula. While at SB2, the Galaxy will then assist with centurion duty while modifications are made to the station's shielding systems.
In the interests of expediency, Starfleet Command has authorized the Galaxy to exceed warp factor 5 for the duration of the long trip to the Beta quadrant. Presently, we are on course holding at warp 7. That should make our arrival at SB2 approximately 72 hours away.
"Computer, close log." Captain Price ordered. An acknowledgment tone sounded from the computer console.
It had been a long week for the Captain. The trials and tribulations over the Moudini nebula had left him drained. The departure of several senior officers had made him sad. Still, the Captain was glad that several of his staff had returned from their week long shore leave. Rested and relaxed after a week of playing and skiing in the great out doors.
Lee glanced over to his desk. Among the piles of reports and padds he had been reviewing, past the show case that housed the d'k tahg that K'Ral from the house of Kras had presented him, Lee focused on a case that stored his holodeck programs. His eyes narrowed slightly as he thought of the Polo program Captain Rixx had challenged him to defeat. The same program that he had been attempting for months to complete, only to be beaten time and time again.
Captain Price walked over and opened the case, carefully picking out the isolinear chip and holding it in his hand. "Maybe this time..." Lee mused.
He was interrupted by two beeps from the comm system.
"Price here."
["Doctor Rousseau here Captain."]
"Go ahead Doctor."
["Captain, I wanted to let you know that Lieutenant Chiron seems to be recovering nicely. He's still suffering from a hearing loss, and experiencing some pain, but otherwise he seems to be doing well."]
"Good to hear that Doctor." Lee began. He could tell Jacqueline had more to say.
["I was about to release him from sickbay, if that is all right with you sir?"]
Lee nodded. "Yes Doctor. Are you certifying him fit for duty?"
["No sir. There are still a few more tests I'd like to run, as well as wait on the results from the laboratory samples taken. I was going to discharge him from sickbay." After a pause, Doctor Rousseau added, "Should I confine him to his quarters Captain?"]
The Captain thought for a moment about Chiron and the five crewmen the Tamarian had murdered while under the control of the alien entity. It was tragic, but not fully Chiron's fault. "No Doctor. Go ahead an release `im for inactive duty. I will contact Lieutenant Sterner and have a Security guard posted on `im until his psychic evaluation is completed." After a pause, Lee added, "Good work Doctor."
["Thank you Captain. I'm sure Mr. Chiron will be happy to be leaving sickbay. Rousseau out."]
As the channel closed, the Captain activated his communicator once again. "Captain Price to Lieutenant Sterner."
["Sterner here Captain."]
"G'day Lieutenant. Chiron is being released from sickbay for inactive duty. I would like to arrange for an armed security guard escort to accompany Chiron at all times."
["Aye sir. Will those be standing orders until the hearing Captain?"]
"They stand for now Lieutenant. I want to hear back from the Counseling department on Chiron's profile since being separated from that alien. If it comes back as positive, I may rescind the order 'mate."
["Very good Captain. I'll assign someone at once. Sterner out."]
The channel closed and Lee let out a sigh of relief. His duties, for the moment fulfilled. The Ship was on course for the Beta quadrant, and at this instant, there wasn't a single thing he was needed for.
Again the Captain's attention returned to the isolinear chip in his hand. The holographic Polo team Rixx had put together and challenged him to defeat. "Maybe this time Rixx... maybe this time!"
Exiting his ready room, Captain Price strode out across the bridge. Glancing over, he sees Commander Coe speaking to an Ensign.
"Commander, you `ave the Conn `mate." Lee said with a smile.
Coe turns and looks at Price, noticing he's carrying what looks like a program chip. "Aye Sir. Heading somewhere Captain?"
Lee stands in the turbo life and faces the Commander. "To the games Commander. To the games!"
Coe smiled, as did the Captain as the computer sang out.
["Unknown destination, please restate request."]
With a grin, Captain Price declares "Captain's Quarters." And the turbolift doors close.
Lee changes out of his uniform when he arrives at his quarters, suiting up in his Polo outfit and grabbing his lucky Polo Mallet. He places his riding cap on his head, then gives himself a quick once over in the mirror before slinging the mallet over his shoulder and marching out in route to Holodeck one.
Ronni and K'arta stared at Troy with shock when he smiled and said, "Well, what can be more relaxing than bashing a few Jem'Hadar heads?" Ronni looked around for a weapon. None were to be found. The Jem'Hadar were quickly closing in on the fleeing party goers and on the three Starfleet Officers. Ronni ducked down and grabbed a handful of sand as K'arta pulled her sleeve and said, "Follow me."
The two women ran toward the beach bar with Troy not far behind. They got to the bar just before the Jem'Hadar did and ducked down. Phaser blaster shattered the wall behind them. Under the bar, K'arta found a long think wooden club, a little smaller at one end with a knob at the end of the grip. Ronni threw two bottles toward the left to draw their fire. She then stood up and threw the sand in the faces of the two nearby Jem'Hadar.
Troy threw two bottles and nailed the two warriors. K'arta then did a diving roll up and over the bar and with a mighty swing, destroyed the nearest soldier's leg and then chin.
Ronni did a flying tackle yanking out the tube that fed 'The White' to the Jem'Hadar. She landed on him, her hands on his neck, which snapped as she rolled off. Ronni, K'arta, and now Troy were all armed with weapons, Troy having dispatched a suddenly appearing warrior.
The three scattered and tried to set up a cross fire, trapping the Jem'Hadar. K'arta, trying to get to a better position, saw the ripple effect of two soldiers appearing behind Ronni. When she yelled, Ronni turned and saw them.
With a roll to the left, Ronni missed being hit by the blade of the first soldier. She threw herself back on her elbows and kicked the second Jem'Hadar in the crotch and the knee. He crumpled, but it opened the way for the first Jem'Hadar to get a blow in, which he did. He caught Ronni squarely across the left shoulder with a good cut and back handed her with his other hand.
K'arta opened fire and downed the Jem'Hadar before a fatal blow could be struck. She started to move over to Ronni, but couldn't because of the phaser fire.
Troy was currently rolling on the ground with one of them, struggling for a blade. K'arta was sure she heard the sound of laughter coming Troy.
***************************
Ronni returned to her quarters sore and tired. It was a long day, she had drank a little too much in Ten-Forward, and then the 'relaxation in the holodeck had finished her off. Dr. Rousseau had not been to happy about having to treat the trio, and Ronni thought that she had intentionally left some of the pain as a reminder.
She had a message waiting for her when she returned. Commander Coe wanted her at a meeting at the begining of Alpha Shift tomorrow. "Great!" she said. She quickly got ready for bed and was asleep before she had sunk to the bottom of her tank.
"Welcome on the Galaxy Ensign Koch. I´m Lieutenant Miran Ti, the Chief Helmsman." she said.
"Lieutenant, Ensign Koch reports for duty." Koch answered.
"Very good Ensign. You have Gamma shift from 0000 to 0800. Be punctual. Meanwhile you can move into your quarter. Dismissed." Ti said and left the Transporter room.
Koch walked to his quarter and prepared it for himself.
---------------------
Ensign Michael Koch, Helmsman, USS Galaxy
"Breathtaking beauty"Cadet Campbell pulled the straps of his backpack tighter. He stopped for a moment and looked around.
He could see a beautiful mountainrange to his left. Snowcovered peaks, waterfalls coming down the mountainsides, valleys colored in red, orange, yellow and green. The beauty of this autumn scenario.
"A fantastic recreation of the Scandinavian montainrange." He thought. "It's the most beautiful thing in the world..."
Christopher shrugged his shoulders to make the backpack come higher up on his back and continued hiking up the mountainside. He could see a few reindeer a hundred feet away or so. Christopher wondered how close he could get without scaring them away.
{It is now 1800 hours acording to standard Federation time.} The computer said scaring all the reindeer away.
Christopher swore at the computer. Then he remembered that he was going to meet with Chanor at Ten-Forward in fifteen minutes. That's why the computer told him what time it was.
One last time he looked around.
"It's breathtaking. It doesn't matter how many times you see it. I'll have to Chanor this some day. Computer end program.
The beautiful nature dissapered and instead a square room took it's place. Christopher's backpack also vanished.
"I'll definitly have to show this to Chanor." He thought once again as he left holodeck.
Making his way to Ten-Forward, Christopher smiled at everyone he passed, not caring that he probably looked pretty stupid. Hiking in the northern wilderness of Earth always made him feel well.
"Reliving History"Miran went down to the Holodeck by herself. Deiran had something to do so didn't come with her. That was fine because she wanted some time to herself.
She programmed the holodeck to provide her with a Yakovlev
fighter that was used during World War Two. While studying aviation history, Ti has found out about the 586th Fighter Aviation Regiment. They were Russian women who fought during the war.
Ti pulled on the old flight cap and goggles they flew with then. The year was 1942 she was flying over the skies of Stalingrad. She was playing the role of junior Lieutenant Lilya Litvyak. Her mission was to attack bombers being escorted by Junkers 88s.
Ti swooped down in her yak-1. She pulled a loop. She saw that her commander had shot down a Ju 88 when one came for her. She had to pull some fancy manuevering to keep her tail safe. She managed to get lined up so that she could shoot him down. If this was actually happening Ti would have just became the first woman on Earth to shoot down and enemy craft. Miran smiled and took pleasure in this. She saw a friend attacking a Bf109. Ti watched as she ran out of ammunition. The Messerschmitt was preparing to turn the tables. Ti got on his tail.
The pilot tried evasive manuevers. Ti didn't let him shake her. He was going to be the next pilot down. Soon, her bullets set the enemy plane on fire. The pilot bailed. Miran congratulated herself. It had been a fine battle. She landed the plane on the grass strip that was provided. A captain approached her. He would be the same rank as her if she wasn't playing Litvyak. She saluted him.
"The pilot of the plane you shot down is asking to see you."
"Yes sir." She followed him
to the waiting jeep. It took them to the building where the pilot was. It was no surprise to Ti that she had shot down a German Ace, she knew the history. The airman was shocked.
"Where is the pilot that shot me down? I want to congratulate the first person I found better than I. This ... This "school girl" couldn't have been the one to shot me down." Ti had to relate detail by detail the battle until he relented and claimed her victorious.
"Computer end program." It felt good being able to relieve the stress that had built up. She hadn't liked meeting Deiran's parents even if it was through subspace. They seemed to be nice but she still had doubts that she would be accepted by them.
*****
Back in her quarters, she curled up with a book written by K. Stephin, an early ancestor of Robert's. She had published this book back in the early twenty-first century. It was written in a time that Earth thought they were alone in the universe. It was about a woman that traveled to another planet by way of magic. It intrigued her. It was interesting. The main character had been visiting North Dakota when she found this prince. It was different.
Deiran came in when she was in a part where the main character was kidnapped. He looked torn between being extremely happy and upset. He told her about his offer to serve as Chief Ops on the Enterprise. She was happy but then a though hit her.
"What about our wedding?"
"We have to get married soon, in the next three weeks. But this doesn't change my love for you or our life together. I can always get you transfered with me. But it is your career and your decision. But you aren't back out on me. I'm still going to marry you." Deiran took her into his arms. Ti was happy here on the Galaxy and didn't want to transfer, besides the Enterprise already had a Chief Helmsman, they didn't need her there. Ti didn't want to be seperated from Deiran though.
The Enterprise was a family ship as was the Galaxy. She could always resign her commission, but she didn't think Deiran would let her end her career just to be with him. She would have to tell him at a different time. It wasn't the proper time to ruin his happiness.
He suddenly sensed someone at the entrance to his quarters... how long had he been standing there? Chiron walked over and opened the door for Lt. Hutchcraft, his new cheif officer. Hutchcraft seemed a bit uneasy, but that was understandable, considering that Chiron had killed 6 people on his watch. Chiron decided against telepathy, and instead reached for a nearby PADD.
*What brings you here, sir?*
The rumbling of the field could be felt as Captain Price galloped his horse faster and faster after the Polo ball. Lee glances back over his shoulder as he begins to break away from the pursuing team.
"I've got the advantage." He thought as he returns his gaze forward. "Only 1 defender to beat."
Adjusting his reigns, Price maneuvers his horse, trying to evade the single defending rider that stood between him and the goal. Having succeeded at fooling him with the serpentine moves, Lee grins as he rides past. He stares momentarily at the rider before turning his attention fo rward and to his imminent goal.
Lee's eyes widen as three defenders appear in front of him, startling his concentration and spooking his horse as she comes to a sudden halt, throwing the Captain from his saddle onto the turf.
Lee lands with a thud as he tumbles to a stop. The galloping horses swerving to avoid trampling the Captain, yet still belting him with the turf divots from their hooves. Lee spits as he pulls the chunks of dirt out of his shirt and face. In the distance he can hear the holographic Captain Rixx laughing at him as his team rides back to the other end of the field, easily scoring yet another goal for his team.
"Computer. End program." Lee says flatly, resigning to yet another defeat.
The holo-grid appears, and Lee just sits there for a moment, squatting on his knees as he catches his breath. "How the devil did Rixx get his defenders by me so quickly?" He wonders. "My attention was only diverted for a moment..."
The Captain shakes his head then smiles. Getting up, he takes his cap off his head and begins using it to pat himself down, loosening the soil and bits of grass still trapped on his riding outfit.
"Another day perhaps Rixx, another day." The Captain exits the Holodeck and returns to his quarters for a shower and to change.

Captain's log: Stardate 49705.9
After several days travel, the Galaxy is now entering the Beta Quadrant. Our arrival at Station Beta Two should proceed as scheduled. We will be arriving within twelve hours at present speed.
Our new Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Hutchcraft is working closely with Lieutenant Casey in Ops to coordinate the repair efforts with Station Beta Two personnel. I have the highest level of confidence that all will go smoothly once we arrive.
"Computer, close log."
As the computer acknowledged the command, Captain Price deactivated his monitor and proceeded to exit his ready room.
It was near the end of Beta shift, and Commander Coe had the command watch. As the Captain exited, he gave Michael a nod.
"Done for the evening Captain?" Coe asked.
"Aye 'mate. Thought I'd stop by Ten forward for a spell and hang out." Lee said with a grin. Then added, "Your welcome to join me after your shift 'mate."
"I might just do that sir." Coe said with a smile. Lee nodded then exited the bridge.
*****
"What will you have Captain?" Liam asked in his normal, jovial tone.
"Bolian tonic water with a twist of lemon 'mate."
Liam smiled. "Coming right up sir." The bartender was quick at getting the Captain his beverage, personally slicing open a fresh lemon and squeezing a wedge into the glass. "Here you go Captain."
Lee took the glass directly from Liam's hand. Taking a sip, he nods before placing the glass on the counter top. "Very good 'mate. Just how I like it. Thank you."
"Pleasure Sir." Liam said humbly. Glancing over the other end of the bar, he could see a couple more patron waiting to be served. "If you'll excuse me sir."
"Go on 'mate, I'll be right here." Lee said in a jolly tone. He was in a good mood today, in spite of not being able to win on the holodeck.
As the Captain was sitting there, he noticed Lieutenants K'arta, Morris and Ensign Harris sitting together at a table. As he glanced over, Ronni smiled and waved for him to join them.
Lee walked over. "G'day. Having a party here 'mates?"
"Not really Captain. We were just talking about Lieutenant Casey and Lieutenant Ti..." Ronni motioned for Captain Price to have a seat. Before continuing, she glanced around the table. "Captain, you know Lieutenant K'arta from Security and Ensign Harris from Engineering?"
Lee nodded. "Of course. Okay if I join you?"
K'arta smiled in unison with Ronni. Ensign Harris looked like he was going to have a cow. "Ensigns." They both thought, as the Captain sat down right next to him. Michael stiffened noticeably, though the Captain seemed to just ignore the change in him. He did manage to force out an "Aye sir." which also got Ronni and K'arta smiling. It was no wonder they didn't stop and giggle right there.
Finally, Ronni got back to the topic at hand.
"We were just talking about Deiran and Miran's engagement." Ronni said happily as everyone smiled.
Lee's eyes lit up with surprise. "Casey and Ti? Engaged? When did this happen?" The Captain sounded as if he'd no heard anything about it.
"Just the other day Captain." K'arta replied.
Ronni nodded. "I'm so happy for them. They will make such a wonderful couple." Lieutenant Morris nudged Michael in the arm with her elbow. "Isn't that right Ensign?"
Still in shock over sitting next to the Captain, Ensign Harris forces out a "Yes sir.", just as if he were back at the academy. K'arta and Ronni couldn't help themselves this time as they each begin to laugh lightly.
While they are having fun at Ensign Harris' expense, Lee's expression unknowingly goes blank as he thinks of the communication he had with the Enterprise. There was a very good chance Lieutenant Casey would be leaving the Galaxy, very soon.
"Is everything okay Captain?" Ronni asked, noticing the Captain wasn't participating in their teasing the Ensign. Something he normally would enjoy quite immensely.
Lee smiles at Lieutenant Morris. "Fine Lieutenant. Just thinking of all the things that need to get done is all."
"You need to relax more Captain." K'arta explained. Ensign Harris looked on in amazement as the half Klingon woman took it upon herself to give the Captain advice. Michael still couldn't believe he was sitting at the same table as "The General".
"Our last few missions have been quite hectic. It's times like these when one should rest and enjoy life!" K'arta raised her silver lined Starfleet mug as a signal for everyone to drink. Lee grinned, raising his tonic water and clicking it with the others as he took another sip.
"Good advice Lieutenant. I'll have to keep that in mind." Lee smiled then looked over at Ensign Harris. "You don't speak very much, do you Ensign?"
Michael's eyes widened again as he fought to think of how to respond. "No sir. Well, sometimes but not usually sir."
Lee smiled at Michael. As he looked at Ronni and K'arta, all three of them began to laugh. Michael was beginning to feel picked on. A reassuring pat on the shoulder from the Captain told him they were just having fun.
"Don't worry Ensign. Once you make Lieutenant, you'll realize how much fun it is entertaining new officers."
Michael finally smiled coyly. "Yes sir. I'll look forward to that."
Everyone laughed at the Ensign's joke. Even Michael, as he finally began to relax and enjoy the company of his shipmates and Captain as they all relaxed in Ten Forward.
Lieutenant Hutchcraft entered Sickbay to see no Tamarians anywhere. He looked around each of the biobeds, seeing what appeared to be very little wounded. This was not a sight Hutchcraft was accustomed to. "Doctor, where's Lieutenant Chiron" he asked, approaching the Chief Medical Officer.
"He has returned to his quarters. He's fine, Lieutenant. Save his deafness, which should be only temporary" answered Doctor Rousseau.
Hutchcraft gave a sigh of relief. He was glad that Chiron was fine, and was not continuing with his killing rampage that he had created while under the influence of the Nebula alien.
The Lieutenant bidded the blue-clothed Doctor good day, and exited Sickbay. Hopefully, that would be the last time he'd have to enter the place in a while.
Hutchcraft decided to take a visit on Lieutenant Chiron, just to make sure he was perfectly alright. He wondered towards Chiron's quarters, noticing a familiar security guard by the Tamarian's door.
"Ensign Enquist, how are you?" Hutchcraft greeted the guard.
"Quite alright, sir. Well done on the promotion" the Swedish officer commented. Hutchcraft smiled. He hadn't seen Enquist in quite sometime.
"Is it okay to go in?" Hutchcraft asked.
"As long as you follow standard percedure for entering an officer's quarters" replied Enquist with a grin. Hutchcraft, as a result, pressed a button near the door of the Tamarian's quarters. A little noise was produced.
"Your ringing a temporarily deafman's doorbell?" Enquist began to snigger at the Engineer's mistake.
"Behave yourself, Ensign" Hutchcraft grinned back. As he did so, Chiron opened the door. He gave an expression that suggested for him to come in. With that, Hutchcraft nodded towards Ensign Enquist, and entered Chiron's quarters.
The quarters looked very much like Hutchcraft's old quarters. Small, compact, little breathing space. Yet it was also functional. Hutchcraft definetly prefered his current quarters, however.
Chiron reached for a PADD, and began to make notes on it. While Hutchcraft knew that Chiron was capable of telepathy, he reasoned it must be quite weak. As he thought to himself, Chiron showed him the PADD.
*What brings you here, sir?*
Hutchcraft took the PADD, and read the comment. He began to write his reply.
*Just checking up on a previous-convict, crime-victim, ex-murderer and my new Assistant Chief, Chiron*
Hutchcraft passed the PADD back to the Tamarian, while grinning with delight. Chiron read the PADD, and chirped up a little bit.
*Erm, thank you sir. I'm sorry I'll not be able to attend to my duties for a while ...*
*Quite alright Chiron, I'm sure you'll want to stay out of the way of Station Beta 2's Chief Engineer anyways. I hear he is quite big, and I'm sure he'll not be too pleased with what you did to the shuttle bay doors... well anyhow, I need to go to a meeting now, Lieutenant*
Hutchcraft passed the PADD back to the Tamarian. Chiron nodded to him, and smiled. Hutchcraft offered his hand to the Engineer, and both officers shook their hands in friendship. Hutchcraft then returned to his duties, after passing the Security Officer that stood outside Chiron's door.
--------------
An ensemble of characters gathered inside Engineering, readily awaiting the arrival of their new Chief Enginner. Lieutenant Andrew Hutchcraft boldly entered the room, feeling slightly terrified at the huge numbers of Engineers that stood around.
"Greetings ladies and gentlemen" began Hutchcraft. He felt very nervous in the presence of some of the officers. Many had been in Starfleet a lot longer than him. Even those who hadn't had been in Engineering longer than him.
Then there was their racial backgrounds. Terrans and Bajorans were one thing, but the variety of Klingons, Bolians, Deltans and other strange creatures were even more intimidating. He was scared to think about what these officers were thinking. He continued his speech.
"As you all know, I shall be replacing Lieutenant Kane as Chief Engineering officer on the USS Galaxy. As soon as he is recovered, Lieutenant Junior-Grade Chiron shall be serving as my Assistant Chief." Hutchcraft decided that this was a good start.
"Our first major assignment will be Station Beta 2. Once we arrive there, we'll be needing to begin repairs on the Shuttle Bay doors. I'm sure Lieutenant Commander Tom Hanson's staff can do with a hand."
Hutchcraft relaxed a bit. This wasn't so hard. After all, these were Starfleet officers. They had been taught to trust and obey any higher-ranking officer.
"We'll also be organising a full rebuild of the Engineering department. I'll be needing to rearrange the duty roster with the disappearance of many officers. This shouldn't be a problem since most of you will be staying in the shifts you are alreayd in. But as a warning, don't be too shocked when you find you've been moved from Alpha shift to Gamma shift."
Hutchcraft then began to discuss with the department various technicalities that needed to be dealt with. In all, though, the meeting was a success. Hutchcraft successfully broke the ice with many of the officers in Engineering, and was greatly hoping to meet them in full again.
Sitting down, Hutchcraft then continued to sift through his mail. He had two notable letters :
From: Lt. Cmdr. Tom Hanson
To: Lt. Andrew Hutchcraft
cc: Capt. Joseph Zahn
Re: Shuttle Bay Doors
Greetings, Lieutenant. It's going to be good to see some new faces around here for a change!
Received your specs on the Shuttle Bay Doors; it's a big job, but our replicators ought to be up to the challenge. Assembly, however, will likely be more complex a task.
I look forward to meeting you and your staff.
Regards,
Tom Hanson
Chief Engineer, Station Beta 2
------------------------------
There was also a letter from Coe, saying congratulations. As well as these, Hutchcraft had been forwarded many letters referring to the new repairs. 'Wow' thought Hutchcraft 'This is going to be one task to deal with'
Hutchcraft's next job was to find Lieutenant Casey. This was for two reasons. First, he needed to co-ordinate the repair work of the Shuttle Bay Doors with the young officer. This would be something that both officers would also be doing alongside the Station staff.
Andrew also wanted to congratulate young Dieran on his engagement to one of Hutchcraft's least-friendliest co-workers, Lieutenant Ti. Hutchcraft grinned at the thought of the aggitatable Bajoran. As he did so, he began his walk to Lieutenant Casey's office.

He only had to wait about 10 minutes when the Cadet entered. He nodded to him, then got himself a drink and sat with Chanor. "Evening Cadet." said Chanor.
"Good evening Ens.... Lieutenant? When did you get promoted?" replied Christopher.
"A few days ago. With Lt. Hutchcraft's rise to Chief Engineer, they needed a new assistant chief of security for Gamma shift. They selected myself over Lt. Quall. I'm not sure why, but I'm not complaining. So, how has your day been?"
"I've been hiking in the holodeck. I've been running a few programmes of the Scandinavian mountains, where I've been hiking. It's absolutely beautiful Chanor, you should see it!" stated Chris, sounding a little happier towards the end.
"You come from Scandinavia then?" asked Chanor.
"No, well, yes, well sort of. I was born on the USS Sutherland and raised their for a few years. But I have lived in Sweden, in Stockholm for part of my life." answered Chris.
"Well, perhaps I'll accept your invite one day and have a look at the programme," Chanor carried on, "but for now, I've got a job to do. I don't know w hat'll happen at Station Beta 2, but I can sort of guess it won't be the easy task I hope for. With the station's shield being taken down for remodulation, we'll be the primary defence if anything comes out from deep space."
Chris looked at little surprised at this and said, "Yeah, I hadn't thought about that. But we'll manage I suppose."
The two continued talking, remarking on the Captain's presence in Ten Forward, before Chanor left to head for security at 0000 hours. Upon arrival, Chanor set Ensign Sobra to guard Lt. Chiron and sat down at the paperwork arriving at his desk.
Now I know what Andy truly felt like, though Chanor as he picked up a PADD and started studying it.

The scene was too good to be true. A beautiful beach. A reggae band. A beach party going on. Ronni and K'arta headed toward the party when Troy stopped them. Just then, the party-goers started screaming. Alarmed, the two women looked to Troy.
"Well, what can be more relaxing than bashing a few Jem'Hadar heads?" He said smiling.
K'arta just glared at him for a moment before they had to take action because the Jem'Hadar were advancing on the trio of Starfleet officers. K'arta saw Ronni kneeling for a handful of sand, and grabbed her sleeve.
"Follow me." the Klingon said. She led Ronni to the beach bar where they could take cover from the enslaught of the Jem'Hadar. Desperate for any sort of weapon, K'arta looked under the bar. She spied a baseball bat and pulled it out. Brandishing the bat, she waited for Ronni to make a move.
The Delphinian threw two bottles of whiskey at the far wall. The Jem'Hadar were stupid enough to fire in that direction. Ronni proceeded to throw her handful of sand in their faces temporarily blinding them. Troy assisted by accuratly throwing two more bottles at the two Jem'Hadar warriors. K'arta leaped out from behind the bar and swung her bat. She connected with the nearest soldier's knee. There was the unmistakeable sound of cracking bones as she wound up again. This time her swing connected with his chin. The Jem'Hadar soldier crumpled to the floor.
K'arta didn't see their other attacker lunging toward her until she saw Ronni flying out from the bar. Ronni disabled the other Jem'Hadar quickly and easily. K'arta quickly picked up the Jem'Hadar's weapon. She turned and saw that Ronni and Troy were also armed and ready. She nodded to them and they spread out in the now wrecked bar.
They began firing to try to set up a cross fire to trap the remaining Jem'Hadar. K'arta glanced at Ronni and saw the shimmer of more Jem'Hadar. She yelled to her friend. Ronni turned but couldn't do anything. K'arta fired at the soldier attacking her friend and brought him down. The Klingon then tried to get to Ronni, but couldn't because of the phaser fire.
She glanced around for Troy and spotted him wrestling with one of the Jem'Hadar soldiers. It seemed to K'arta that the human was LAUGHING. Slightly peeved, K'arta open fired on the remaining Jem'Hadar, and with Ronni's help, they cleared the bar of the menace.
The trio exited the holodeck and headed for sickbay to get relief for the bruises they had received in the battle. Dr. Rousseau did not seem to thrilled to see them.
K'arta walked back to her quarters thinking about her recent promotion and the friendship, if you want to call it that, that had begun with Troy. She was excited that she was now a Junior Grade Lt. and an assistant security chief.
She arrived in her quarters exausted, but happy. She found a message from her father waiting. She read it quickly wanting to know what he wanted to say. She smiled when he asked if she had been promoted to security chief yet and was very excited when he informed her of the new crop of foals on the farm. K"arta finished reading her letter and wistfully climbed into bed. There were some times when she wished she could just go home to the farm and be carefree again. The Klingon fell asleep thinking of the new foals her father had written her about.
The officers allowed themselves a small chuckle, then Varin continued.
'All right, any questions? Good. You know your jobs... don't be afraid to coordinate with Galaxy. They're the flagship, and I would assume they have the best science people... besides YOU of course' Varin smiled. 'Get to work!'
They all disbanded, and went to separate parts of the station. These modifications were going to take time.... but at least they wouldn't just be a fat tasty prize for the Romulans or Orions. They would have the security of a powerful starship nearby to protect them. Varin stopped. He remembered the reason that Galaxy was stopping by. He had heard rumors that the damage was caused by someone on the crew. If that could happen on a Galaxy class starship....
Varin promised not to let himself become too cautious.
Varin also pitied the poor sap who blew off the bay doors... Hanson is very likely to exchange some harsh words with that man...
The door's sensor field picked up the movement of a bipedal lifeform toward the door, and lacking any commands to the contrary, opened to reveal the corridors of Deck 5, and Ensign Enquist.
Chiron stopped, and watched the ensign's lips move, then stop as he realised his mistake. He motioned toward the PADD Chiron held in his hand, and the engineer passed the device to Enquist. He typed, then handed it back to Chiron.
*May I ask where you're going, sir?*
{I want to...} Chiron noticed Enquist's discomfort, then typed on
the PADD.
*I want to go ask the good Doctor if I may take a portion of my
leave on the Station.*
The security officer tapped his combadge. Chiron could see his lips
move, but refrained from 'listening in' to the conversation telepathically.
He was debating the moral implications of his newfound telepathy when
Enquist handed him the PADD.
*The captain says it's OK to go see Doctor Rousseau, but I have to
stay with you.*
Chiron nodded, and followed Enquist to SickBay.

Chanor headed out from his quarters. He'd spent the last few days getting used to being assistant chief and was finally getting the swing of things as he headed down to ten forward to met Cadet Campbell before his shift began. As he entered, he saw the Captain sitting with several other officers. However, he didn't know any of them, so he ordered an orange juice and sat down, waiting for Cadet Campbell to arrive.
"Troy's 'Relaxation' Techniques"
by Ensign K'arta
'OK, Khail, Malley.... I want you to start replicating the materials Engineering needs to construct the bay door. Hatty, Barik, Meaney, I need you to work on the Sheild Modifications with Lts. Seles and Cohen. Tis and Okim, I need you to help me with the weapon upgrades... they tend to get a little touchy, so don't be afraid to swallow your pride and call me if you've got a problem.'
Chiron's eyes flipped open as he came out of his relaxation trance. The ship was due to arrive at Beta 2 soon, and he wanted to redeem himself in some way. The Tamarian uncrossed his legs, stood up, and made his way to the door.
