USS Galaxy Sim Log Stardate: 49707.6

"Futures"
by Lady Ronni Morris
Asst. Chief of Science, USS Galaxy

When Ronni finally caught up with Troy she did two things. First, pushed his face in the mud. Then, when he started sputtering and trying to defend his actions against Deiran, she gave him a solid kiss on the lips. Pushing him back into the mud while standing up she turned and said, "There. Now shut up and act like a true gentleman. Escort me back to my quarters so I can change for the ceremonies. You'll need to change too."

Troy looked at her rather dubiously, and when she extended her hand to help him up, he refused. Ronni shrugged and held out her arm to be taken by Troy. He did so hesitantly and that is how they returned to her quarters. Ronni talked blithely on about everything and Troy staring at her with a look of confusion and a little fear.

When they got to her quarters, Ronni said, "Come in while I change. You can get cleaned up after me. She went over to the replicator and made a new dress. It was a deeper shade of green that Meiran's and had a gold border around the rather revealing neckline, sleeves, and hem.

She then took a quick shower and got dressed. She told Troy to replicate a clean version of what he was wearing and to hurry with the shower. When he came out, showered and dressed, Ronni was waiting for him. Her hair was pulled back with a golden scarf that went down to her waist.

"You look much better Troy. Now, please escort me back to the celebration. I want to eat something before the wedding." she said coyly.

Troy mumbled something and took her arm and lead her back to the holodeck festivities.

Liam was wandering around the USS Galaxy looking very lost. Someone tapped him on the shoulder. It was Troy and Ronni "Looking for something" "Yeah, Deirans wedding, I totally forgot" "Follow us" said Ronni with a wry grin.

"Right around here" said Troy as there destination loomed. "I guess I'm a bit out of costume" "Yes, you could say that" Ronni mumbled through a stifled laugh. "Go on in I'll be right there". "What ever you say".

Ronni wondered where he had gone, she was soon to find out.

The room went silent for a moment after someone walked in, shortly followed by a laugh. Ronni turned around, she was soon laughing too. There, standing at the door, was Liam, decked out in some strange looking clothes to say the least. Captain Price broke the silence "Well it wouldn't be a proper festival without a court Jester!"

"Unexpected"
Lieutenant Troy Blair
Chief Tactical Officer, USS Galaxy

Troy was laughing as he dodged through the crowds of people, trying not to let Ronni catch up to him. Over his shoulder, he could see the furious look on the Delphinian's face, as she pushed holo-characters out of her way.

In an attempt to loose Ronni, Troy began to turn around tents, changing his path. But she was able to stay behind him, at one tent, when Troy turned he slipped on some mud. This allowed Ronni to catch up with him, and tackle him to the ground. Then the unexpected happen, she kissed him on his lips, Troy's eyes immediately widened. He was completely thrown off guard.

She pushed him back into the mud, then said "There. Now shut up and act like a true gentleman. Escort me back to my quarters so I can change for the ceremonies. You'll need to change too."

'What is she trying to do?' he thought to himself 'This must be some kind of rouse, before her true plan.' When she held her hand out to help him up, Troy stared at her, then got up without her help. She shrugged, then held her arm out for him to take. He looked at her oddly, something was definatly strange about this whole situation.

When they got to her quarters, Ronni said, "Come in while I change. You can get cleaned up after me. She went over to the replicator and made a new dress. Troy didn't say a word, but instead looked around at the decorations in Ronni's quarters.

After a few minutes, Ronni came out of her bathroom in a new dress. Troy stared at her for a few seconds, then had to shake his head to get the 'unwanted/wanted' thoughts out of it. He quickly replicated a new costume for himself, and took a shower. When he finished, he went back to the main room where Ronni was waiting. She had her hair pulled back with a long gold scarf, again Troy had to shake the thoughts out of his head.

"You look much better Troy. Now, please escort me back to the celebration. I want to eat something before the wedding." she said coyly.

"How the hell am I going to explain this to Deiran" Troy mumbled under his breath

*** Holodeck ***

As soon as Ronni and Troy departed, she gave him another kiss, but this time on his cheek. He quickly looked around for some big burly holo-character, she may have created to have a little fun with him. But there was no such character around, so Troy when to the arena. As soon as he got there, Deiran approached him with a sly look on his face.

"Soooo Troy....I saw what happened when Ronni caught you." Deiran said in a teasing tone

"Uh...Uh...Uh...That...well..uh..it' wasn't what you think.....she..uh.. bit me...ya...she bit me on my nose." Troy replied, looking at everything but Casey

"Sure she did..." Deiran smiled, "Then how do you explain the lipstick on your cheek?"

"That's from a holo-character! Honestly, you couldn't have seen anything! We...er I and the character were out of site. Ronn...uh I mean Guinevere gave me it for....uuuhhh.... good luck." Again Troy looked at everything but Deiran

"Good luck? For what?" Casey laughed

"For my round!" Troy exclaimed.

"But your round is over, the ceremony will start soon." Deiran stated

"No...not that round, the round of...of...of...of beer, I'm about to go drink!" Blair said, letting the heat from his tunic escape through the collar, by inserting his finger

"Let me get this straight, a 'holo-character' gave you, a good luck kiss for a round of beer you are about to go drink."

"Ya, that's what I said" Troy smiled

"Man Troy, Ronni must have some kind of affect on you, you're brain is not like it was a few hours ago." Derian smiled, as he walked off

"Hey! What's that supposed to mean?!?!" Blair yelled out

"You'll find out soon enough!" Casey replied

"Introductions and Confussion"
by Ensign Thomas

*** Bridge Gamma Shift ***

Chris had spent the past couple weeks doing the same rountine, sleeping during Alpha shift, working in the holodeck on beta shift and then working his shift at ops. He really was beginning to enjoying working gamma shift it was quite and peacefull. Which meant the demand on the ops positions was less than any other time during the day. This was of course the result of less people doing anything at this time. Most people where in there beds sleeping awaiting the dawn of a new tommrow. Chris planned to speak with engineering tommrow about his design proposal for mobile holoemitters. Lt. Ti, Miran is in command at this time of the day.

With the free time Chris went about scanning the sensors looking for anything interesting that would prove to be a distraction for just doing routine monitoring of ops at this time of day. Four hours later he finally found something of interest the ship was passing close enough to an barely charted starsystem and the were ahead of schdule for their next stop.

"Lt. Ti, Miran long range sensors have detected that we will pass realitively close to a starsystem that has been barely charted. Prehaps we could investigate further?" Chris asked.

"Do you think that there is anything of interest there Ensign Thomas?"

"Sensors are showing very little at this point we would need change our course by 5 degrees for a short time in order to pass close enough for a more accuarte picture of the system." Chris said. They didn't have time to stop but a minor course correction would allow for a better sensor scan of the system. Starfleet could send another out here if they thought that there was something worth exploring there.

"Helm change course as Ensign Thomas suggested and them return to our orignal course in hour." Lt. Ti said, if the captain had a problem with it than she would get after Ensing Thomas.

"Course adjustment made" Helm responded.

The sensors did gather a wealth of interesting data on the system. Including signs of life, and also indications of ancient ruins on the seventh planet in the eight planet system. Mineral scans showed some intersting information, but nothing indicated that there was a pressing need for the Galaxy to explore it, the system could wait for a federation science vessel. Chris made his report to the duty officer Lt. Ti.

*** Ensign Thomas' Quaters ***

Chris had just come of his shift, he quickly checked for any messages. Then he headed for bed what a comortable thought and place. He crashed in his bed uniform still on him and went to sleep.

"Ensign Thomas please report to transporter room 3, on the double, Mate." Came the captain's voice of the intercom in his room.

Chris got quickly changed his uniform and husstled to reach transporter room 3, though he was barely awake as did this. Why in the world was having to go to the transporter he did not understand, but he knew his orders and followed them as said.

*** Transporter Room 3 ***

"Ensign Thomas reporting as order sir." Chris said as he walked into the room.

The transporter had been activated, Lwxanna Troi, a eight year old boy and Mr. Holms materlized on the padd. He reconized them, the boy he did not know who he was, but more to the point why was he here in the first place. Normally the senior officer would be here great digintaries. They stepped off the pad, so another group of people could be beamed over. They were here for the wedding without a doubt.

"I am Captain Price, welcome onboard the Galaxy, Ambassador Tori." The captain said.

"Thank you Captain. This is Colby, who's mother's dying wish was for Chris and Gwyen Thomas to raise him." Lwaxana said as Colby hung to her leg, seeking protection.

He finally started place who this young boy was and the last time he had seen him. Gwyen and him were engaged to be married when they meet Colby's mother those many years ago. He was now being asked to raise this young man, on his own, without Gwyen's help. They had talked about having childern more than once. He was now being presented with a new challenge and the one question came to mind was, I am really ready to raise a child and in effect move on with my life. The answer to take custody of Colby was already answered, they had made a promise to be Colby's guadians if something every happened to his mother. The chance seemed remote at best that anything bad would happen to her. Chris considered the implications that he was no facing here. He decided that he was going to need as much as possible to raise Colby. The next for weeks were going to be extermly tense as they try to get to know each other.

"Hello Colby, I doubt that you remeber me, but I do remeber you and your mother." Chris said as he began to realize the true loss of his wife Gwyen and the gift that he just had been granted. His life was already in trublence, but now a factor had entered his life and that was Colby.

Harris continued to talk with the group of Ensigns he arrived with.

"We'll have to meet like this more often?"

"Sorry gotta go. See you all later"

With that, Harris left the small group and walked over to exit the holodeck. He was heading for his quarters because he needed some space from the hectic activities.

When he got back to his quarters, he changed into some more comfortable clothes and sat down at his computer.

"Computer I want to send a message to Ltjg Harris on the St Louis"

"Their is no Ltjg Harris on the St Louis. Their is one Lt Harris"

"Typical. He's been promoted"

"Hi Adam.

This is Quentin here. I passed out of the academy and I have been assigned aboard the USS Galaxy. I hope you are enjoying your stay aboard the St Louis and haven't caused too much havoc yet. Anyway gotta go, loads to do on this ship.

Quentin"

"Computer send message to Lt Harris aboard the USS St Louis"

"Message sent"

With that, Harris left his computer and walked over to the replicator to get a coffee.

Dr. Rousseau wasn't in, she was still at the games, but the nurse on duty started a bit when a dark-metal clad man walked into SickBay, holding his arm. The knight removed his helmet, and the Nurse smiled. "Right this... uh..." She realised her mistake, and held out her hand instead.

Chiron removed his arm-plates and his gauntlet to reveal a fair-sized opening in his upper arm. Nurse Jatzo winced, then ran a dermal regenerator over the wound, which healed quickly. It was still a bit sore, but that was understandable.

He returned his helmet and armpiece, gave the nurse a gallant bow, and left SickBay.

Chiron was enjoying himself so thouroughly that instead of returning to his quarters, he headed back to the Holodeck. Halfway there, though, he realised that he hadn't given a present to the soon-to-be-married couple. He quickly diverted to the Replimat, looking carefully through the selection. Finally, he found the perfect Items. He pressed the appropriate button, they materialised onto the small platform, and he left again for the Holodeck.

Arriving at the fields, Chiron quickly sought out Deiran and Miran. Closing his helmet's visor, he walked over with all the dignity that befits a knight and presented his gifts.

To Lady Ti, he gave a collection of English horse tack, complete with bridle, lead rope, and saddle. He saw her eyes light up at the gift, and her thoughts wander to the recreations of her horses in another program.

Next, he strode over to Sir Casey. Chiron had overheard Casey's conversation with Troy Blair, and replicated a sturdy Iron shield, decorated on the front with the Casey family crest. The Eagle and Lion fairly leaping out of the work as if they radiated the very agility and strength they symbolised.

They both voiced their thanks, still not knowing who this knight was. Chiron enjoyed the mystery, and decided to 'string it along' more. He climbed the steps to the dais, and sat in the nearest open seat to the couple, and leaned back to watch the games.

"Knights, Archers, Ensigns & Witches"
by Lieutenant Andrew Hutchcraft, with contribution from Ensign Boudreau & approval from Lieutenant Deiran Casey

Sitting at a third-row seat by the jousting ring, Hutchcraft took a seat by one of his fellow Engineers, Ensign Bates. The officer was dressed in a green archers-suit. Competition, obviously.

"Y'know, women in those days didn't use bows ..." Hutchcraft stated, looking at the Ensign.

Cathy Bates looked towards her superior. She had served on the ship long before him, how dare he not only come in to her department as her superior, but then make a sarcastic comment about her dress sense! "... and Mongols weren't allowed into Festivals"

Hutchcraft let out a small laugh, before contining to nibble at the snack he had purchased only a little while before hand. "Having fun, Ensign?"

"Watching you big boys play your games? Oh yeah ..." sarcastically commented to Ensign. She briefly looked at Hutchcraft, gave a near-sneer, and returned to the jousting.

"You have problems ..." began Hutchcraft.

"I have problems? Mister Coffee says I have problems?" She looked at him with a shocked expression. Hutchcraft merely laughed. Cathy got the joke, knowing that Hutchcraft rarely commented on a person's personality without twisting his sarcasm into it.

Hutchcraft straightened his helmet, and relaxed a bit more "Anything exciting happen yet?"

"Not really ... Sterner beat the Black Knight" replied Bates

"Who was?"

"Chiron"

Hutchcraft laughed at the thought. Chiron would be no match for Sterner, a man who's interested in medieval warfare was extensive. "I can't say much for Sterner's holographic ladies ..."

"Well this is the medieval era. No soap and water, y'know" Cathy replied.

"Well they must of had water ... I mean, look at her!" Hutchcraft pointed to a random figure, dressed in rags and dirty hair.

Cathy laughed to herself "She works in Science, Hutchcraft"

"She does?" Andrew replied. Cathy smirked.

"Yeah, astromony I think. She really overdid the costume ... like yourself, sir." commented Cathy. "Still, there are some that made sure to look nice. Morris isn't badly dressed"

Hutchcraft laughed at the comment "Yeah, but that's Morris, she don't count"

"Why not?" queried Cathy.

"'Cause she's not a holographic character" Hutchcraft smiled. Cathy sighed, and then shrugged, and then turned her attention to the ring.

"I think I'm going to see what Dana is doing ... seeya Lieutenant" Cathy farewelled, leaving an empty seat by Hutchcraft.

Hutchcraft laughed again, and turned to his meal. The next fight was due soon, but Hutchcraft was still hungry. He opened up the kebab, and took out another strip of meat, and dangled it in front of his mouth. He then took the meat in his mouth, and began to eat it. It looked disgusting, but Hutchcraft enjoyed it.

As he did so, another Ensign appeared. One that Hutchcraft did not recognize. The Ensign looked to him "Lieutenant Hutchcraft? My name is Ensign Mélissa Marie Boudreau. I believe we will be working together." She smiled and awaited a response.

"You in Engineering, right?" Hutchcraft replied. The Ensign that stood before him felt a little more friendly than the one that just past him. Hutchcraft was glad that he didn't have another character like that in his crew.

Ensign Boudreau nodded "Yes, sir"

Boudreau didn't want to shake the hand that was in front of her - it had been used to eat the greasy, chilli-covered fast-food the Lieutenant was eating. She needed a way out. As Hutchcraft put out his right-hand, she put out her left. Hutchcraft quickly changed hands, and the two officers shook. "Sorry sir, habit. I'm left-handed and they taught us to shake hands that way in Girl Guides." Boudreau looked slightly relieved.

"You want your assignment now?" Hutchcraft asked, continuing to eat at his food.

"Yes sir, if it's no trouble. If it is, y'know ..." Boudreau replied.

Hutchcraft smiled "Course it's no trouble. Your assigned to Alpha Shift, with myself and ..." Hutchcraft turned his head towards Ensign Bates, further up the grandstand "... Miss Bates over there. Yourself and Ensign Hewson are to help out finishing the repairs from the Void incident. Please, take a seat"

Boudreau sat at Ensign Bates' old seat. Hutchcraft offered the Quebecan a piece of kebab. The Ensign refrained. "How busy is it here?"

"Pretty busy .... if you look at the ship's record, we have a history of having Romulan problems ..." Hutchcraft smiled, thinking of both the incident with Admiral Blair, and of course the infamour Ambassador Kale from Station Beta 2.

"I hate Romulans ..." started Melissa.

Hutchcraft nodded "Don't we all"

As he did so, the next fight started. It involved one of Hutchcraft's favourite people. Hutchcraft stood up, as the crowd cheered on the new riders came into the court. "AHHH! YOUR GOING DOWN CASEY! YOUR GONNA LOSE" ... and similar chants spurted out of Hutchcraft's mouth as he looked to the knight on one side. He then sat back down.

"An enemy of yours?" Boudreau asked.

"Not really ..." Hutchcraft replied "Long story ...."

Boudreau frowned "I have time. Tell me"

"Actually, we're not enemies at all. We even play in the same band" Hutchcraft replied.

"Then why boo him down?" Boudreau asked.

Hutchcraft smiled. "Well, thanks to his help, I didn't die on our last mission. He decided to joke about me owing him back for it ..."

"Oh I get it. Petty stuff"

"Exactly. He's a nice guy really, so's his fiancee. But don't tell either of them that, or I'll have you assigned to Waste Extraction" Hutchcraft smiled.

Boudreau laughed, and watched the joust continue. "Archery tournament is on soon ... I'm playing, you wanna come, Ensign?" Hutchcraft asked

"Sure" Melissa replied, and both officers got up, and made their way to the Target-range.

-------------

Hutchcraft looked at his competitors. One note-worthy character was, of course, Casey. Hutchcraft smiled as he saw the Lieutenant. Maybe some intimidation was called for. Andrew, with Melissa following, walked up to the soon-to-be husband of Ti Miran.

"So, looking forward to losing, Dieran?" Andrew laughed, looking to young man.

Casey narrowed his eyes. He wouldn't take this from Hutchcraft. Time to fight back "Losing my status as a Single-Man, yes. I would think you were looking forward to losing this tournament, Hutch"

Smiling, the Engineer needed a good counter-counter-attack "Yes, well you've never been good at thinking, have you Deir. For starters, you seem to have the impression that I'm going to lose this tournament! You must not be thinking straight ..."

The two officers continued to throw jabs at each other, in a joking manor. Poor Melissa looked slightly bored at the two Lieutenant's argument. The tournament, however, was about to begin. Hutchcraft and Casey both prepared themselves for the match that was about to follow.

"I'll see you later, sir" spoke Ensign Boudreau.

Hutchcraft nodded "Please, Andy will be fine. Or Hutch"

Melissa smiled, before walking back to the spectators ares. As she did, the archers began to prepare themselves. As they did, something caught Hutchcraft's eye "Women ...."

"Huh?" stated Casey, before turning to what was happening behind them "Tut ... Women ...."

Lt. Morris was running from a group of holographic knights nearby. She obviously needed help. "Do you think we should, Hutch?" asked Casey.

"Probably ..." Hutchcraft replied "But surely that would be encouraging her ..."

"True, but she's still a fellow crew-member. After all it's only a few arrows" Casey smiled, and Hutchcraft nodded. The officers loaded their arrows into two different styles of bow, and aimed to strike the knights down.

Lt. Hutchcraft's arrow cut the rope holding a crate of live chickens. The box barely missed Ronni, but caught the first knight squarely in the face. Lt. Casey's arrow hit the ground between the second running knight's feet, causing him to trip and land in the mud.

"C'mon Casey, the tournament can wait, I think I can get a Large Grape Juice, the real thing, from this ..." Hutchcraft smirked, looking at Casey. Casey agreed, and the officers made their way to Morris.

Whatever had happened, Morris had now landed deep in the mud. Lt. Blair had also turned up, and greeted Casey and Hutchcraft as he did. "Ronni, you've never looked better!!" he said with that smile.

As he did, Morris got up and began to chase Blair. Hutchcraft sighed "What was that all about, Casey?"

"You weren't with us on the Ski-Trip, were you?" replied Casey.

Hutchcraft shook his head.

"Then I'll tell you a lil about it after I've creamed you in this tournament ..."

"You wish ..."

As the officers bagan to argue, the tournament began. Who would win? Only time would tell ...

James Donovan - Riel Elitia

"And the winner is ..."
by Lieutenant Joerg Sterner
Chief of Security, USS Galaxy

The festival was a big success and Joerg was glad that everything was as he intended it to be. Although there were two minor injuries, and one of them was even his own fault, the two crew members were already treated by sickbay.

Joerg could just imagine what Dr. Rousseau was thinking of him, how he always manages to injure people with his holoprograms. She was certainly right about it, he thought, but on the other hand he had tried everything possible to prevent such accidents to happen. Since the two injured officers were already taken care of, Joerg's attention turned back to the festival.

The first competition was just completed. Hutchcraft and Casey were the last competitors in the archery duel. Both of them seemed to have trained hard for the tournament. In the end however Andy managed to beat Deiran with one point and was declared winner of the archery competition by one of the heralds.

Joerg was wondering what Andy was up to and decided to have a little chat with his friend. He approached him, but had to pass a dozen of people who congratulated the winner. Finally he reached the Chief of Engineering.

"Hi Andy. Your last shot was absolutely perfect." he greeted him.

"Thanks. I practiced a lot for this one, and it certainly was worth the effort." he answered smilingly.

"I bet it was. However I think you missed the point of this whole tournament Andy. This should be Ti's and Casey's wedding party, which means Casey should be the one winning the tournament." Joerg tried to explain to him.

"But this is a competition after all. Which means that anybody skilled enough could be the winner." he replied, with an evil grin on his face.

"You are of course right, but ..."

"Look Joe. I'll leave out the sword competition, so Casey can show how good he really is there. But the final, the jousting tournament is mine again." Andy said and turned to the cheering crowd again.

Joerg headed back to the arena where the sword fights finals were just about to begin. 'Andy must have a reason for his behavior' he thought while watching some holo-knights fighting for the audience.

After some really interesting and long sword fights, Deiran finally managed to win this competition. While the herald declared him the winner, he went to the royal box and turned to Ti.

"This one's for you, my fair lady." he said, while saluting his sword.

Meanwhile Joerg was still thinking about Andy's behavior. He just hoped that Deiran was strong and clever enough to defeat Andy in the final and most important event, the jousting. Before the trumpets were sounded to indicate the beginning of the last competition, some falconers were showing the audience what their birds were able to do.

They let them fly very close above the heads of the "royal family" only to land safely back on the gauntlet of their master. They also simulated the hunt for other birds by throwing a bag of cloth into the air and the falcons quickly intercepted them and brought them back. Joerg was especially fond of these attractions, since he made them after a real falconer's show back in his home country, when he was a child.

After that the main attraction started to take place. From the beginning of the first duels it was clear to see who would be in the last and final duel, Deiran Casey and Andrew Hutchcraft. Both of them managed to defeat their opponents, both holographic and non-holographic, easily. Then, after a little break where some jugglers showed some tricks, the herald announced the last jousting opponents, Deiran and Andy.

They both approached their horse and mounted them. They put on their helmets and were handed a lance and a shield. After that they both indicated that they were ready. As she saw their signs, Miran stood up holding a piece of veil in her hand. Suddenly she had dropped it. This was the sign for the opponents to ride against each other.

On the first run, both of them managed to miss each other. On the second run Andy was able to point his lance at Deiran, but was blocked by his opponent's shield. But the third run brought the final decision. Deiran was able to make out where Andy was about to strike with his lance and dodged it, while himself knocking off Andy from his horse with his lance.

The audience waited for the reaction of the fallen knight. He stood up, but refused to fight anymore against his opponent. With that move it was clear that Deiran had won the whole tournament. Joerg was relieved that his plan for the wedding party had finally turned out as he planned it.

The herald announced the final results of the tournament. The first one to receive a prize was Hutchcraft. The Captain, acting as the king, gave an arrow that looked like it was made of pure gold to him.

While shaking his hand and congratulating him, he said "This is not a holographical one 'mate. Although it's not gold either, it still is a piece that will remind you of your heroic deed." Joerg had told the Captain of course of the problems he had with Andy, who was trying to win the tournament.

Andy thanked him and Joerg, who was just standing beside him. While Joerg congratulated him on his courage, the herald announced the winner. The whole audience was giving him standing ovations. Upon arriving in front of the king, Lee waited until the crowd sat down again and was silent to start his speech.

"Fair knight, you have fought well today. Therefore it is my honor to give the hand of my dear daughter to you. May you protect her with the same strength and courage you have shown today, as she is the greatest prize in my whole kingdom I can offer you." he said, and Joerg thought that he really was playing his role perfectly.

The crowd started to shout and cheer again, after hearing those words, and Miran gave a kiss to Deiran, as token for their love.

"But before I end this festival now, I have one more thing to announce." Lee continued, much to the surprise of Joerg.

"Just before I came here to be the king, and father of the bride, I received a message from Starfleet Command about the confirmation of three promotions." he started.

"I'm glad to announce that Lieutenants junior grade James Mitchell and Rr'lonii Morris are hereby promoted to full Lieutenants." he continued while the crowd cheered again.

The two approached the captain and were both given their new second solid pipes.

"And last but not least, I'm very honored to announce that Lieutenant Joerg Sterner, the creator of this wonderful holonovel, also has been promoted. Congratulations Lieutenant Commander." he said and turned to Joerg who couldn't believe what he just heard.

While he also was handed another pipe for his collar, and Lee shook his hand, he was too stunned to hear the shouts and congrats from all of his fellow crew mates, who were participating in the program of his. After he was finally able to realize what had happened to him, he started to thank everyone personally, starting with the Captain.

After that, it was about time the end the party. It surely was an event nobody was to forget really soon, as some of the them will always have some binding memories to that day.

Lt. Devlynn Salshyar (Dev)
Chief Counselor, USS Galaxy - NCC-70637

"Hello Colby, I doubt that you remeber me, but I do remember you and your mother." Chris said as he began to realize the true loss of his wife Gwyen and the gift that he just had been granted. His life was already in trublence, but now a factor had entered his life and that was Colby.

Dev walked in to the room at that moment, being the Ship's Counselor and a Betazoid, she was asked to be on hand when the child came on board. Still bedecked in her attire from the holodeck, she got some curious glances as she entered the transporter room, "Hello Colby," she said to the youngster, "Ambassador, Captain, Ensign..." She went around the room.

L'waxana projected 'Young one,' the elder Betazoid said to Dev, 'I haven't seen you since you were this tykes age.' she smiled, 'you've done very well for yourself I hear,' she looked to Chris and back to Devlynn, 'and he certainly thinks a lot of you!'

Dev blushed slightly 'Hello, Ms. Troi. I can barely remember the days you and mother spent together in the gardens at Eden House. It's nice to see you again' Devlynn broke off for a moment, she looked at Chris expectantly. It was his first day on the job of parent, she expected some hesitation.

She took the initiative, "I am Counselor Devlynn Salshyar. I am the Ship's Counselor. I am also a Betazoid. You may call me Dev." She paused. "Also, I am the head of the school, so I will be working with you to find out where you will be taking classes." She walked over to Chris. "Ensign, can I see you in the hall."

They exited the room. "I have only known about this move for a very short time, shorter than yourself I believe. I would like to extend to you both my congratulations and also my services. The child needs mother figure in his life. And I, being Betazoid, would like to help." She paused for a moment, "Colby is soon going to be experiencing the pain that every Betazoid child goes through as his telepathic ability surfaces. When that happens it will be best for him to be around a Betazoid as well..." She stopped, "but we'll deal with that later, lets get back in there."

They re-entered the transporter room. Dev said, "Colby, I look forward to seeing you again soon." She shook his hand, "You have Chris show you where my quarters and my office are, you are welcome there anytime!"

"Almost There"
by Lt Ti Miran

The medievel party ended but the festive spirit was still in the air. The jousting had been fun. Sterner should be praised highly for the excellence of his program.

Miran had to wade through gifts that had come. The tack from the Black Knight was beautiful. She didn't often ride English but now she would. It was one of the finest gifts anyone had ever given her. It was different living with the Federation- she never had anything living with the Cardassians. The acquirement of personal possessions was new to her when she first came. She was happy to have her own tack to use.

Miran had been going through the gifts when she recieved word that the USS Vicksburg was within transporter range and ready to beam over her family. Wonderful! She was glad that they had made it for the wedding.

The wedding! She had butterflies doing the waltz. She was so nervous. There were going to be so many people their that the holodeck wouldn't hold all and then Ten-Forward, or wherever Liam wanted to hold the reception, would be packed.

When Miran got to the transporter room, she let Jensen transport her family. Well, it took a couple of transport. Kateli Stephin gave Miran a big hug and Alexander swept her into his embrace for a bear hug. Each of their children in turn gave her their greetings.

"Mirie!!" Little Alex gave her a hug too. He looked a lot like his father just like Robert did. His young blue eyes shown with hidden mischief. He and Bobbie would get along great.

"Charles says to send his congratulations. He's on the USS Concord and can't get back. Chiana and Erin also send their wishes and greetings. They are in finals at the academy. Chiana will be graduating this year. Gregor will be attending the academy this year. He was accepted." Kateli filled Miran in some of the gossip.

"Of course. Congratulations Gregor," Miran said turning to the younger but taller man. She had enlisted the help of a couple of yeoman to show the Stephin family to their quarters. Kateli would soon be coming to Miran's quarters to help get things ready.

When Kateli did come over she brought young Alex so that he and Bobbie could get used to each other. Bobbie squeaked her protest at first but Alx was careful and used to handling all the animals he had at home. They played out of the way.

"The dress is beautiful. This young man of yours is lucky. I can thread little pearls through your hair if you wish. They'll match the ones on the dress."

"Thank you, Deiran will love it. I asked Lt Troy Blair to escort you. He is really nice. You will like him."

"What about your Maid of Honor?"

"Her name is K'arta. I will introduce you two soon. I told her she could choose her own clothes for the wedding. I would not know what she should wear and I am not picky about it either." Soon Kateli got ready to leave so she could get her family ready. She gave Miran another hug.

"I'm so proud of you. I wish this was down on the farm with Robert but... With you wanting apple blossoms you couldn't have it now anyway there. It looks as if we are going to have a nice crop of apples. Another month they'll be ready for pickin'. I'm sorry, I'm ramblin'. It won't be long now," she said with a smile. She and Alex left and Miran was left alone with Bobbie.

***

Miran entered a dark holodeck. She had one thing left to do to say good-bye to a part of her life she never had let heal. A single light illuminated a tall dark handsome man in a black tux. The program was a ballroom dancing program Robert had created for her right before he left on Voyager.

"Ah Miran, you're so beautiful." Miran held a finger to his lips.

"Shh, Robert, you will always have a part of my heart but now Deiran will be my life and light in this universe. Good-bye. Computer end program." She walked out feeling a sense of closure.

Colby watched the woman who was speaking to him carefully. He checked every detail of her, to make sure that he would know who this woman was in the future. He saw her kneel down to his level of eyesight and speak. "I am Counselor Devlynn Salshyar. I am the Ship's Counselor. I am also a Betazoid. You may call me Dev." All that Colby did was stare at the woman as she spoke with soft tones. "Also, I am the head of the school, so I will be working with you to find out where you will be taking classes." Colby formed his mouth into the shape of a frown and wrinkled his nose as the woman walked away towards the man that was supposed to be his new 'guardian.' The woman proceeded to whisper something to him and then leave the room.

Colby looked up to Luxanna, the woman he had known as his godmother his entire life, "School?"

Luxanna smiled ... grimaced, to the child. "At this time, that should be the least of your worries, child. We must arrange several matters today and in the next few days, Colby."

Colby continued to look upward towards Luxanna. "I don't like her."

Luxanna smiled as sincerely as she could as she glanced to the captain and then to Colby again. "Yes, I know you don't like her. You must grow accustomed to her, though. She's going to be doing alot with you as you grow older and develop your telepathic skills." She paused for a moment. "Colby, what do you think of your new father?"

"If he wasn't human, I'd like him alot. He's all right, for a human."

Luxanna looked to the captain again to see him looking up at the ceiling and somewhere off in space. She could tell that he wasn't happy to see her, obviously from all of the stories that had managed to find their way to his ear. She glanced back to the small child that was still clinging to her. "Ah, well, yes, they are easily amused. Don't worry, though. He'll be just fine. You'll see."

Within the next moment, Devlynn and Ensign Thomas had reemerged from the hall and found their way back to the transporter room. Colby looked to his new 'guardian' and then to the counselor--the one that had threatened him with schooling. The counselor again kneeled down to his eye level to speak to him. "Colby, I look forward to seeing you again soon." She shook his hand, "You have Chris show you where my quarters and my office are, you are welcome there anytime!"

Colby was about to tell the counselor his true feelings abour her, when the captain spoke at a louder tone than earlier, obviously to catch everyone's attention. "Counselor. Why don't you and I show Ms. Troi and her uhhh... 'assistant' to their guest quarters. Chris, you and Colby there can go to your quarters and you can show him to his new home, all right?" Both the counsellor and Chris nodded in agreement, or acknowledgement, Colby couldn't tell, and Chris held his hand out for Colby.

For a moment, Colby stared at the hand and contemplated whether or not he should take the offer.

Luxanna spoke aloud, "Don't be shy child. Take his hand."

Colby reluctantly did so and felt the man tighten his grip against his own. He looked back up to Luxanna, seeking some kind of comfort. She returned his look with a smile. "Don't worry. Everything will be fine for you."

He then saw the four others leave, departing Colby and Chris. Colby particularly watched the captain follow the others as they walked down the hall. He gazed up to his new guardian and said, "That man speaks funny."

Chris looked at Colby with a look that was almost of suprise. He started to walk towards the corridor, trying to ignore the frankness of the last comment from the child. "Let's go take a look at our new home."

"A New Beginning"
by Ensign Thomas - Ops

*** Outside Transporter Room 3 ***

He then saw the four others leave, departing Colby and Chris. Colby particularly watched the captain follow the others as they walked down the hall. He gazed up to his new guardian and said, "That man speaks funny."

"He is from Sydney Australia, which is on Earth. His accent is different than mine, yes."

Chris looked at Colby with a look that was almost of suprise. He started to walk towards the corridor, trying to ignore the frankness of the last

comment from the child. "Let's go take a look at our new home."

"I'm sorry that Gwyen can't be here to help you go into the man that you'll become one day. I will however do the best that I can do to help you. I saw your reaction when Dev mentioned school to you. That is one ground that I will lay down right here and now, you will attend school. However I promise that I will try to help make as interesting as possible, when I can." Chris said. Cobly would attend school and that was final.

"Why do I have to go to school?" Colby formed his mouth into the shape of a frown and wrinkled his nose as spoke.

"Because, with an education will be able to discuss issues with other people. Truthfully there were parts of school that I didn't like much, but over all it was a great experience. The really neat thing is that you get to do a lot really cool stuff." Chris said as they walked into the nearest turbolift and stepped in.

*** Turbolift ***

"Deck 18" Chris said. Then they started moving.

"Why are we going to deck 18?"

"Because those are my current quaters, but I'm sure that the captain will approve my request for apartment quaters, so that we'll be more comfortable." Chris anwsered then consider the problems that were going to continously come about as Colby grew up over the next 8 years and what those things meant for both there lives.

*** Deck 18 ***

They headed for Chris quarters. Cobly remained silent as they walked the distance for the turbolift to his quarters. He was going to have to do some reorganizing of his quarters, even when they did move. Chris had some things that Colby would not understand or know what to do with, neither did Chris. His Batleth would have to be placed elsewhere along with some other personal items that Colby did not need to be getting into, his responsiblities had just gone though the roof and so had his blood preasure.

*** Ensign Thomas' Quarters ***

They entered his quarters, "Will this it for now." Chris said as he stopped by his desk.

"Computer are there any messages?" Chris asked.

"There is one message in holding." The computer responded.

"Just put your stuff down anywhere on the floor, and out of way." Chris said as he studied Colby carefully. He was going to need some serious help.

Colby set his belongings down on the floor. "Aren't you going to answer or look at that message you got?" Colby asked.

"I may later it is nothing of importance or concern, to me any more. Come on there's something I to show you." Chris said taking his hand again leaving his quarters behind.

They went back to the turbolift and stepped into it.

"Computer Deck 12, Main sickbay" Chris said, he just realized that CMO would want to see Colby. He had a lot of things that were going to have to been over then next couple of days.

"Why are we going to sickbay, are you sick?" Colby asked.

"No were going to see the doctor and then after that I'll give you a tour of some of the ship that is not of limits to you." Chris said as they got out the turbolift and headed for sickbay.

"Complications"
by Ensign Thomas

The visit with the doctor went as expected. Colby really wanted nothing to do with anyone onboard this ship, except Ambassador Troi, which was to be expected. Both of their lives had just been turned upsided down, and they were hurting from the reminded of the loss that they had suffered. The next few weeks were likely to be the most complex Chris had ever had to deal with since he first meet Gwyen, time would only tell as to how they both came out of this. They were both alone in the universe after thier losses. Only did that start to change upon meeting with each other.

*** The Next Day ***

They walked along the hallway on deck 14, there next stop was the counselor, though Chris already knew that she would't be in her officer, still he needed to show colby where the counselor office was on the ship.

"Colby something you might finding interesting is that a galaxy class starship is overall the largest starship the Federation has ever built. The idea was that by building a ship this large it could accomplish many different task, without having to put into dock for sometime. Further the Galaxy is the first of her class, there were to be a total of 12 galaxy in service for the Federation. Why don't you tell me something about Betazed?" Chris said trying to break though the long silences that seemed to follow every few minutes.

They reached the counselor's office before it was Chris turn to tell Colby something about Earth. He knew that once they lefted the counselor's area behind them, the silence between them would return. To both there surprise Counselor Dev was in, she had't been there for long. This would be a great time for Chris to leave Colby with the counselor, for she had informed him that Colby might feel more relaxed if Chris had some items that were of Betazed orgin. Most of Chris' items that he had brought with him were either Klingon or Human, with a few other artifact items.

"Counselor would you mind looking after Colby for a little while, there something I need to take care of and it really should't wait." Chris said to her, although he wish he could bring her along, but he wanted to surprise Colby while he could.

"Yes of course I'd be happy to watch after Colby, there is something that we need to do regarding school." Dev said.

Chris left and headed for the ship's shop, hoping that with a little help and some luck he would find some Betazed items. He walked back along the hallway heading for the turbolift. He was honestly pround of himself, he had managed to keep his true feelings for Dev hidden from her. Though he didn't have that luck with Ambassador Troi, she had easly picked his thoughts and that was something that no matter how hard and how much he tired he would never be able to totaly hide his feeling about his wife and his new feelings towards Counselor Dev. He begin to feel as if he was in limbo between his love for Gwyen and this new sensation that he was feeling while he's around Dev. Though he only he momentaly consider these feelings, they were likely due to the new stress that he had accepted, or prehaps they were there for some other unknown reason.

Chris stepped on to the turbolift "gift shop". The turbolift hummed to life taking him to his destination.

*** Gift Shop ***

Chris looked though every catalog and reference point he could find to ensure that he got his orders correct in ever detail. He was methotical in his work so there was no reason from him to be any different here. He knew that regardless of how many things he got, quality was what counted, and even more to the point, a few well choosen items would be even better.

Chiron stepped back, and listened to the Captain's speech. He played the part of the king perfectly, promising his 'daughter's' hand in marriage to Deiran Casey. After he was done speaking, Chiron, and everyone else in the holodeck began to clap and cheer.

The festivities began to die down, in preparation for the actual wedding. Chiron left the Holodeck, took off his helmet, and proceeded down the corridor. Halfway

down deck 7, Chiron rounded a corner, running right into a small child, escorted by Ensign Thomas.

Ensign Thomas apologised, but Chiron's attention was focused more to the boy, who was slightly frightened by the dark knight with the odd-looking face. He sensed telepathic awareness.... this child was Betazoid.

-+Hello, young man... are you new here?+- Chiron projected. He wasn't sure if the child would be able to respond, but the look on his face told him that he had heard the Tamarian.

"Sleep!"
By: Ensign Mélissa Marie Boudreau

"I'll see you later, sir" spoke Ensign Boudreau.

Hutchcraft nodded "Please, Andy will be fine. Or Hutch"

Mélissa made her way towards the spectator area. Lieutenant Hutchcraft was an... interesting person. She was glad she would be able to get to know him and everyone else on the ship a little better. As she looked around, she noticed that no one from the second wave off the Excalibur was here yet.

After a few competitions, the Captain gave a Golden Arrow to the winner. Then he gave a few surprise promotions. Finally, it was time for the party to end. As she exited the holodeck, Mélissa stiffled a yawn. She hadn't slep in quite a while, considering all the excitement.

She quietly entered her quarters, and quickly went to sleep. After all, she would have to work eventually!

Amélie

After the coffee materialized, Harris picked it up and walked over to his cupboard to get out one of his old books "History of World War 2".

He walked over to sit down so that he could read it. No sooner had he sat down, their was a chime from the door.

"Come" Harris yelled

The doors opened to reveal Ensign Mulich standing at the door.

"Come in Ensign"

"Thank you Quentin, and call me Mark we are partners now"

"Ok Mark"

Mulich entered the room.

"Want anything to eat or drink Mark?"

"No, thank you. The reason I am here is too see whether you would like to come to the holodeck with me later?"

"Yeah sure I would" Harris said eagerly

"What's that book you got their?"

"It's about World War 2. A very important battle in English history. It is also my favourite period of time"

"Ok then. Sorry I can't stop but I got to do something" Mulich went to leave

"Oh by the way, Quentin. Bring some of your friends that you were speaking too in the holodeck"

"Ok I will ask them"

"See you at about 1700"

"Yes, see you then"

With that, Mulich left Harris' quarters. Harris got up from his chair and walked over to his computer.

"Computer. I want this message sent to Ensign's Tash, Hewson, Boudreau and the other new Ensigns that have just arrived.

"Hi.

This is Ensign Harris just sending a message to you inviting you to holodeck 3 at 1700. If you can make it then it would be much appreciated. I haven't got a clue what's going on as Ensign Mulich is organising it. Also feel free to invite some more people if you wish.

From Quentin

End message"

"Messages sent"

After the messages were sent, Quentin left his computer and walked back to his chair to read some more.

"Projects"
by (drum roll please) Lt. (not JG) Ronni Morris
Asst. Chief of Science, USS Galaxy

Ronni stood in front of the mirror and smiled to herself. The two solid pins shined like two wequ pearls from Delphi. She had been in Starfleet for seven years now and it was only in the last year that she had been promoted. At Utopia Planetia and the ship yards, the number of awards you received was more important than your rank. There as an Ensign, Ronni had been over a number of projects, including the shield design for this ship, over some people who were Lieutenants and Lieutenant Commanders. But here, on a Starship, this promotion felt great.

It was Beta Shift and she was running a level two diagnostic on the backup systems. At her terminal she was making some changes to her pet project, a holo OPS station. While pulling up her files, there was a flag next to the files she had created and copied from Lord Harry Mudd when she had been kidnapped. The flag did a search on any research done on the subject of artificial intelligence, robotics, or personality definitions. Ensign Christopher Thomas, here on the USS Galaxy, was apparently working on an artificial intelligence program.

Ronni put away her Holo Ops project and sent a message to Ensign Thomas.

***********************************************

To: Ensign Thomas
From: Lt. Morris
Subject: Artificial Intelligence

Hello. While doing a search on artificial intelligence, I found some information in our database that you are working on an artificial intelligence program to better regulate the power utilization on starships. If you're interested, we could get together an compare notes. I have some data that could be of use to you and I would like any help that you could provide.

***********************************************

With that, she sent the message and then pulled out the information she had downloaded from Lord Mudd's systems. By the time the system diagnostics were done, she had begun to form some ideas on a new project.

Dev was surprised to see Chris and Colby so quickly after Colby's arrival on the ship. She had only been in the office for a few minutes, running over the new Counseling Schedule was the three new Counselors.

"Counselor would you mind looking after Colby for a little while, there something I need to take care of and it really should't wait." Chris said, watching Dev's reaction closely.

"Yes of course I'd be happy to watch after Colby, there is something that we need to do regarding school." Dev said, with a smile on her face, she enjoyed the time and interaction with the Ensign. And Colby was a wonderful new addition to the ship.

As Chris left the office Dev thought of how glad she was that Chris couldn't sense her feelings. She sighed audilby, and Colby picked up on it. "What was that for?" He asked.

"Nothing, dear." She smiled. "Now, Colby, I know that you don't like the idea, but you have to start school. The new term will be beginning in a couple weeks and we can fit you in there." She waited for a response. Colby crossed his arms.

"I will need you to do an aptitude test for me, to see what level you are working at. Ms. Troi has provided me with your prior educational records, and I am presently going through them, you seem to have a firm grasp of academics." Colby was not lightening up any. Dev was concerned. "Colby, I know that you are not likened to this move, but you know that it was necessary..." At this point there was a knock on her door, it was Counselor Semanka, he wished to contest his being posted to the Engineering Department. Devlynn laughed, she told him to come back later.

"Where was I? Oh, I know that you don't like the idea of coming here to live, but you know that it was necessary, don't you?" She smiled at the youngster, he sneered back. "I'll take that as a yes." She grinned.

"Colby, your mother loved you very much and she only wanted the best for you, as does Ms. Troi..."

"Then why doesn't she take me?" Colby said, through clenched teeth.

"Colby, you know that Ms. Troi's schedule is far too hectic for a chi..."

"I'm not a child." He returned.

"Okay, a youngster." She was not getting through to him, she had to find a way. "Colby, do you miss Betazed?" She knew that he did. "So do I, but I have found a way to bring some of it with me. Here, come with me." She stood. He didn't. "Colby, please, come with me for a minute."

He stood slowly and followed the Counselor out of the office, toward her quarters. They passed several people, and she said hi to everyone. She passed by a child walking the other way and she could feel Colby tense up behind her. He never once uncrossed his arms.

She stopped outside her door, "It's right in here." She motioned for him to enter first. He stepped up to the door and looked inside. He entered slowly with Dev behind him, "Computer," she called, "increase illumination by 40%"

The room was filled with small artifacts from Betazed, trinkets built by local tinkers, a large rug, the was hand-woven by her grandmother. Two potted trees, dwarfs, that were indicative of the Betazoid countryside. It was like stepping off the ship and onto the planet. Colby uncrossed his arms and she could actually sense something from the younng, but strong, mind for the first time since his arrival. She smiled, she almost cried.

"Colby, if you like this stuff, you will love this." She pointed over a large glass container in the corner. It was filled partially with water and the rest was terran. Beatiful fish swam in the aquatic area and the terran area was alive with tiny life, the largest being Betazoid mice, small creature not much larger than a quarter. The mice were several different colours, which changed with their moods.

As they walked up, the mice and all the other small life, tried to hide among the plants and bushes, but their bright colours betrayed them. Small newts dropped from the glass and dove into the water and under rocks, it was a furry of colour.

"They were almost killed in the Void." Devlynn began, "Aren't they gorgeous?" She could sense his next question before it came, "no, they don't eat meat, they are all vegetarian." She said.

Colby's small frame quivered as he watched the creatures become acustomed to him, sensing he wasn't a threat. They began to re-emerge from their hiding places. "Do you like animals Colby?" Devlynn asked.

Colby looked on as the newts and mice wandered about the ground. He began to back away. "I don't like *those* things." He said, fear tinging his voice. She could sense that he feared the small creatures. Probably the newts.

"Okay, come over here. I have something else to show you." She walked toward the other corner. "This might be something more your size." She smiled at him.

There was a large poll. On it sat a beautiful white bird. As she approached it turned blue. She turned back to Colby, and said, "come here, it's okay, he won't hurt you." Colby walked up to the creature, "this is Dalarm. They used to a rare breed of Telepathic bird, he can sense your emotion. Have you ever seen one before?" She asked.

Colby shook his head. "If you project something to him, he will repeat it. Watch."

"Hello Colby," the bird said, in a surprisingly clear voice. Colby smiled.

"Dalarm, this is Colby." She said, smiling.

"Why were they rare?" Colby said, much to Dev's surprise. She had found something that he was interested in, this was good.

"They were caught and kept in captivity, to be studied. They don't breed in captivity, their numbers began to dwindle. With new technologies, they are being replenished. We have two of Dalarm's offspring in the arbouredum." She smiled.

"Chris is going to take me to the arbouredum later."

"If you can call to them, they will come." She continued, "Colby, I want you to know that you are welcome here, or in the office any time. I will be in one of those two places mostly all day, if I'm not, you can ask the computer where to find me, or have me paged."

He looked at her, he knew she was going to drop the bomb, "but for now," she said, "we have to get back to my office, we have to get you set up for school."

Colby instantly locked up. "Colby," she plied, "please, don't worry school will go very well. You will get along well with some of the other children on board. You will be, however, the only Betazoid child."

She began the trip back to her office, Colby walking slowly behind. "Colby, I have two tests I need you to write for me, and then we will go visit the classroom where you will be stationed." He only grunted.

They entered the office and Colby nearly ran over an Ensign going the other direction. Devlynn said sorry for him and entered the room. "Colby, take this," she handed him a PADD, "and do as much as you can, this will determine your academic level." She got up to leave, as she stepped out the door she turned and said, "when you're through, I'll be right through here." She pointed to her left.

She sat down at the desk and begun to type, she had to send a letter to the crew.

--- Begin Message ---

To: U.S.S. Galaxy Crew
From: Chief Counselor Devlynn Salshyar
Subject: Aptitude Tests

Dear Crew and Civilians,

It is time again for our annual testing. I know this bode will with many of you, but you all know that it is Starfleet regulation.

The schedule for the test will be as follows: Engineering - Stardate 49707.10 Science/Medical - Stardate 49707.11 Security - Stardate 49707.12 Command - By appointment *

They will be taken in the large Gymnasium on Deck 12.

The tests will run throughout the Alpha and Beta shifts, will last only one hour and will contain two parts, one that is general and one that is specific to the department. If you are unable to attend or do not fall directly into one of there aformentioned categories, please contact Counselor Salshyar.

* Command test will be done in Holodeck two, by appointment during the period between 49707.09 to 49707.12

--- End Message ---

Just as the message was sent away, Colby came up behind her. "I'm finished." He grumbled.

"Already?" She looked at the PADD, half expecting to see it empty. "That's wonderful Colby, now here," she handed him another PADD, "take this one, it will assess your interests and personal development. It might take longer, and there is no right or wrong answer." He took the PADD and walked back into the room.

Dev began to prepare for the Graduation ceremony that was due to occur in a weeks time.

"Wasted"
By Ensign AC Hewson

The medieval vest hit the floor as soon as he entered his quarters. Some of the crew members at the holo-party actually liked their medieval clothing, but Alan couldn't stand spending the day in tights. He removed the rest of his outfit as he stepped into the sonic shower.

Many people still liked to use standard showers, but Alan found that sonic showers were much quicker and took less effort. His eyes closed as the high powered water ran over his face. It stung a little, but it seemed rather refreshing to him. Tight muscles began to relax, stiff joints loosened up, and the dirt that had gathered was washed away.

"Computer, are there any messages for me?" Alan spoke as he put on his pajamas.

"There are currently three unread messages." Alan stepped over to his computer terminal and scanned through the messages. The messages were from Lt. Hutchcraft, Dr. Rousseau, and Counselor Salshyar.

--------------------------------

To: Ensign Alan Hewson
Fr: Lt. Andrew Hutchcraft
Re: Duty Shift

Welcome aboard ensign! I am always glad to have another member on the engineering team. Ensign Boudreau will be running tests on the SIF power conduits on decks 11 and 32 during Alpha shift tomorrow. You will be working on repairs on decks 9, 13, and 34 tomorrow during Beta shift. Sorry about that, but it has to be done.

Lt. Hutchcraft

--------------------------------

Alan spent a few moments thinking about that last sentence. "Oh, wait a minute. Decks

9, 13, and 34, that can only mean… waste extraction." He couldn't believe he was pulling waste extraction on his first day of active duty. "Great, Boudreau gets a nice little easy job running tests on the structural integrity field power conduits and I get to be waist deep in muck."

The second message was from Dr. Rousseau. It read:

-----------------------------------

To: Ensign Alan Hewson
Fr: Dr. Rousseau
Re: Physical Exam

As a new member on board the Galaxy, you are required to report to sickbay for your physical exam before you report for active duty. You can stop in anytime before your first shift in engineering. Thank you, and welcome aboard the Galaxy.

Dr. Rousseau

-----------------------------------

Alan couldn't stand doctors, but he knew he had to report in for his exam. He pulled up the last message as he replicated some Pulmar juice. The message was from the counselor informing the crew that it was time for annual testing. It didn't sound to bad until he reached the last paragraph. It read:

"All new arrivals will need to schedule a time with me to take their tests, due to the fact that new crew members will have to take the Command test along with the general test and their department test…"

He replied to the counselor's message, asking her if 0600 would be a good time. That would give him two hours to take the tests before his shift started. Of course that meant that he would have to stop by sickbay at about 0500 to have his physical. "I'm sure having to see a doctor and a counselor in one day will put me in the perfect mood for waste extraction!" With a sigh, he fell on top of the bed face down, not even bothering to get underneath the covers before falling asleep.

"A New Life"
by Lt. Ti Miran

Kateli finished threading the pearls through Miran's hair. Her hair for the most part was down, the sides were pulled up and curled with the pearls. To be special for Deiran, she wanted her hair down. He liked it so that way.

Next came the dress. It had leg of mutton sleeves and a heart shaped bodice that was cut low but had chiffon up to a lacy Elizabethan neck. Pearls and trim decorated the bodice. At the waist was a diamond of stiff fabric. The skirt was full and floor length. It had an over lay of chiffon from the waist to about mid-calf. It was lovely. She wasn't going to have a veil to cover her face. She couldn't handle anything covering her face. The Cardassians had a hand in creating that paranoia.

The necklace from the counselor was something new. Something old was a pair of Stephin family heirloom earrings- they pictured a side view cameo coming out of a crescent moon. Miran borrowed from K'arta and Ronni supplied the blue.

The butterflies where still waltzing. The closer to the actual time of the wedding the faster the butterflies danced. Soon they would be fox-trotting. Miran was happy though.

Soon it was time for them to be making their way towards the holodeck. The holodeck had been set up so that it was an outdoor wedding. The setting was spring when the apple trees were blooming, before apples started to form. Miran loved the light pink blossoms that she had first seen down at the Stephin family farm in Southern Illinois. There was also a large orchard not too far away owned by the Webb family which were related to the Stephin's. Basically that whole county was related at one time or another. The major difference between her program and actual Southern Illinois was the climate control she chose. They lived in Humid Subtropical and had a tendency to be hot and humid. She chose 21 degrees Celsius and 25% humidity. She didn't want to have temperatures with humilities to match. A light breeze scattered petals ever so often. The sky was the color of Robert's eyes- beautiful bright blue with not a cloud in the overhead sky. She did have a few storm clouds off out of the general location- just enough to produce a rainbow.

Celtic music played as the guest waited for the bride. Troy looked good in his dress uniform. He presented an arm to Kateli and they entered. Then it was young Alex carrying Bobbie who had the rings tied on a ribbon around her neck. Miran had had a time trying to get Bobbie to hold still and not take off with the rings. That silly ferret. Would Deiran ever learn to love her? Miran did so much.

The butterflies speed up when K'arta started her walk down the aisle. She and the Senior Alexander would be beginning their walk down the aisle to a new life with Deiran. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves. Alexander kissed her forehead.

"It will be okay." K'arta finished her trip and the music changed. The two of them stepped into the Holodeck. Everyone stood up and had turned around looking at her. At the front of the Holodeck stood Captain Price, K'arta, Deiran's best man, and of course, Deiran. He was so handsome. Miran felt like her legs would melt from under her. She was so happy it felt as if she could fly without the aid of an aircraft.

As she got closer to him, she couldn't take her eyes off of him. She barely noticed the eleven Stephin family members in the first two rows, Alexander would make twelve. She really didn't hear Alexander give her away but she noticed taken Deiran's arm. They looked deep into each others eyes before turning to hear Captain Price's words.

"Orchard wedding"
by Captain Robert Edward Lee Price

Captain Price stood before the dozens of crew members, friends and family of Lieutenants Deiran Casey and Ti Miran. The lovely Bajoran bride looked absolutely beautiful in her wedding gown, while the handsome young Deiran Casey looked equally distinguished in his dress uniform. Lee watched as they held each others hands momentarily, gazing into each others happy, if not some what watery eyes, before turning to face the Captain for the ceremony to begin.

"It has long been a tradition that the Captain of a vessel such as this could legally wed those consenting individuals that so wished it. While this tradition has passed down through countless generations, from the times of the first sea going ships that were powered by sails and the wind they caught, I must admit, this is the first such service I have had the pleasure of conducting." Lee smiled warmly, a sure indication that this was not a burden, but a treat. "So please bare with me as we all explore this uncharted territory better known as holy matrimony."

Captain Price turned to Deiran Casey and evaluated him for a moment. "Here we have our young, eager Operations Manager. Lieutenant Deiran Casey. I remember when Deiran first walked the corridors of the Galaxy, then Ensign. He was cocky, self confident, and eager for advancement. In time he has developed into one of the ships most valued officers. Still self confident and eager to please, but maybe not so cocky as when he was an Ensign."

Lee smiled as he watched Miran stifle a giggle. Glancing quickly at the guests sitting under the white lawn garden awning, they too were thinking about how much Casey had matured.

Turning his gaze to Miran, the Captain Smiled. "I also remember a young Helmsman, Ti Miran. It seemed the moment she stepped on board the decks of the Galaxy she instantly had the hearts of a dozen officers in the palm of her hand. Over the past several months, Lieutenant Ti has proven to be the best Chief Helmsman this vessel has ever seen. And though she would probably deny it, the USS Yosemite is still her favorite shuttle."

Miran began to blush slightly, hiding part of her face and most of her mouth with her free hand. The other was holding a gorgeous bouquet of flowers. A chuckle sings out from the guests, as they share in the light humor of the magical moment. When the guests again became quiet, Captain Price continued.

"I suppose it was fate that let Deiran win Miran's heart. Fate and the fact that his duty station is located directly adjacent to her own on the bridge." Lee leaned towards Deiran slightly, covering the microphone on the podium with his hand, but only partially. "Nothing like making use of an advantage like that over the competition 'ay 'mate?" He said with a smile and a wink. This time Deiran blushed, veining innocence.

When the guests quieted down again, Lee continued.

"Now that Deiran has declared his love for Miran, and Miran has in turn declared her love for Deiran, we gather here today to formalize that union. But before we do, I'd like you to first turn your attention to the back of the orchard. Liam Sketcher, the ship's Ten Forward host would like to sing a song to honor Deiran and Miran on this special day. Liam?"

Lee motioned with his hand towards the back of the guests. Turning, everyone could see Liam dressed in a black and white tuxedo with red rhinestone trim about the collar and cuffs. He looked like a performer from some ancient holo-novel or something.

"Thank you Captain Price." Liam said while walking down the center of the aisle, the same one Miran had slowly walked down in the traditional two step only a few minutes before. When he reached the front, he stood at the base of the steps leading up to the small garden platform where the Captain and the Bride and Groom stood, now facing himself, and all of their guests.

"Hello Miran, Deiran. Could you do me a favor and turn and face each other, holding each others hands?"

Both Deiran and Miran were surprised, but happily decided to do as instructed. Captain Price was smiling widely, sharing the joy each one of the happy couple was feeling. Their eyes glistening brightly as tears were definitely forming.

"I'd like to sing a song I wrote myself. It's called 'Forever and always", I hope you like it." With a finger Liam signaled to the back of the orchard where a holographic orchestra began playing a beautiful melody. After several verses of the instrumental introduction, Liam began to sing.

Captain Price, as well as the rest of the crew, was surprised at the strength and beauty of Liam's voice as he began singing like a professional. It was a talent that was unknown to most of the crew. Soon, it wasn't Liam's singing voice that people were paying attention to, but the words to the song. Words of feeling, loving, cherishing each other for a lifetime of happiness. Many eyes filled with tears of joy watching Miran and Deiran hold hands and gaze at each other.

Liam wrapped up the song, holding the last note for what seemed like an incredibly long time, pouring his heart and soul into it with his last breath. Small beads of sweat sprinkled his forehead as the note ended, and the Orchestra wrapped the up the song. The Bartender received a standing ovation from everyone in the holodeck. He bowed several times, blowing kisses to the audience, enjoying the attention his singing had suddenly brought him. As the excitement died down, and everyone began returning to their seats, Liam took a couple of steps up the stairs. Leaning forward he kissed the teary eyed Miran on the cheek. Turning, he offered Deiran his hand to shake. Gazing up he could see that his friend was also teary eyed. Deiran pushed the hand down and wrapped his arms around Liam.

"Thank you Liam." He whispered. "That was the best gift you could of given us."

"You deserve it Deiran. You both do man."

Liam then stepped down off the platform and made his way to his seat so the ceremony could continue.

"Thank you Liam Sketcher." The Captain said, still clapping at the wonderful performance from the heart. "And now for the formalities..."

Lee watched as Deiran and Miran turned to face him. Once he had their attention, be began.

"It has long been a tradition, that those that enter into matrimony, and take on a life long mate would exchange tokens of their love and affection. Do we have tokens to exchange?"

Lee glanced at Miran and Deiran.

"We do." Deiran said, as his best man stepped up and presented him with the wedding ring for Miran's hand. Deiran reached out and took the ring, nodding before turning to face Miran.

Lee looked at the diamond ring Deiran had in his hand. "That is a beautiful token 'mate. I'm sure Miran will enjoy wearing it."

Ti smiled widely, still trying to prevent her own tears from falling onto her beautifully made up face.

"Place the token on Miran's finger Deiran."

Deiran gladly did as he was instructed, holding Miran's hand gently in his own. Gingerly he slid the ring onto her soft finger, adjusting it slightly before releasing her hand.

Captain Price turned to Miran. "And have you also a token to present to Deiran, Miran?"

"Yes sir, I have." Miran turned to her matron of honor and handed her the bouquet of flowers before taking Deiran's ring. Turning, she took his masculine hand, into her own, sliding the ring onto his finger. With a gentle twisting motion, it finally slid into place. Miran held onto Deiran's hand for a moment longer. Deiran squeezed gently to let Miran know he was as excited as she was. Finally, they released their hands and turned to face the Captain.

"Deiran Casey, will you take Ti Miran to be your lawfully wedded wife? To love, honor and cherish for as long as you both shall live?"

With confidence and eagerness that he was noted for earlier, Deiran answered "I will."

Turning Captain Price faced Miran.

"Ti Miran, will you take Deiran Casey to be your lawfully wedded husband? To love, honor and cherish for as long as you both shall live?"

Miran looked directly into Deiran's eyes and smiled warmly. She looked as if she was trying not to cry, but you could tell it was only a matter of time before her teary filled eyes leaked out onto her glowing face. "I will."

Lee smiled. "Then it gives me great pleasure at pronouncing you husband and wife." Captain Price looked at Deiran. "Do it 'mate. Go ahead and kiss the bride."

With a smile, Deiran turned and embraced Miran in a long, passionate kiss. Miran shifted her weight in his arms and let one of her legs rise up as she reached up to find his lips. When they finished kissing, Captain Price stepped forward placing an arm on each of their shoulders.

"Ladies and Gentleman, it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you Mister Deiran Casey and Misses Casey Ti Miran."

A standing round of applause rumbled through the orchard as the guests all clapped continuously. In the back of the orchard, the holo orchestra began playing "Big Bands" music to a cheerful beat.

"Well 'mates, let the reception begin." The Captain announced as Deiran and Miran turned to start greeting the many guests and family members that lined up to congratulate them.

"Love is in the Air"
by Lieutenant Andrew Hutchcraft

The trees were a glistening green, recently growing their leaves after the cold winter. The warm sun and the calm rain had given the tree suitable living conditions, allowing it to thrive and grow.

As it grew, and flourished with nature, a small bluebird rushed into the tree, to meet it's chicks in their nest. It feeded it's young a long, tasty worm, and enjoyed watching it's children feast on their mother's catch.

The squirrels motioned on another side of the tree, freshly out of hibenation and already hunting for acorns and berries for the winter that while so far away, was coming. The squirrels ran across each other, chasing one another and generally making a nuisance of themselves.

It was, y'see, a gentle, spring day, in a small parkland for away from anything worth thinking about. However, it's well known that these parklands are one of the most noteworthy breeding parks for perhaps the most threatening illness to humanity, or humanoidity. Come to think of it, it was a threat to anything that wasn't asexual.

Love, sadly, is a contagious disease with no real cure. One is made into a blithering idiot quickly. This is a symptom that's found in all cases, though is not the worst. Usually the worst symptoms came not from the connection of two fallen victims (as one migh

t expect, since that's where most storylines go), but one victim, and one non-victim. Blithering Idiot syndrome quickly turned to obsessisive idiot syndrome, and was further added with 'hurt-heart' pains, 'sudden-need-to-write-poems' syndrome, and feminiphobia, to name only the common.

Fortunetly for our dear Hutchcraft, this was not the situation he was in. It was similar, but not the same. He had endured a wedding, which is the celebration of two carriers confessing their sickness. Kind of like an Alcoholics Anonymous, but only two may take part at one time, while hundreds of other people (who may or may not have confessed their condition before hand) watched and tried to look attentive.

Casey and Ti were today's confessing victims, and confessed they did. On a second look at the situation, at no point in the ceremony does one hear either carrier confess their sickness, but instead a third party (in this case, Captain Price) explains to the observers in a most confusing way the situation. In other cases songs are even sang, rice and confetti are thrown on the carriers (maybe to remove the plague?), and afterwards the two victims enjoy the lighter side of their poison.

(The plague, from there, dies down. One predicts this is due to the confession made during the ceremony)

--------------

Hutchcraft had been a carrier of this plague back when he was a child, at the age of only 15. This was during the transistion period, where he first discovered progressive arts and the glory of space travel.

There he also met Diana Hoxson. A beautiful women, she was, very into the progression of arts too. While Hutchcraft did not continue his interest in art because of her, it certainly was a helping factor.

Diana was two years older than Andy, but the kid, still in puberty, quickly fell in love after only a few talks with the dark-haired goddess. Her luscious green blue eyes, pale but pure skin, long, clean black hair and charming voice were the necessary ingrediants to create the horrible infection.

As I have already stated, it is no the situation of victim meets victim that should be feared. Not at all, it's the situation of victim meets non-victim that is the main problem. This was such a case.

Poor ol' Andy was in deep. One day, at the age of only 17 (a two year wait), Andrew confessed his feelings to his precious Diana.

Diana was shocked, scared, and soon the friendship broke down.

Moral of this story is not to avoid the disease, but make sure you contract it for someone who's contract it for you, too.

All symptoms related to the disease hit Andy hard that day, and soon the Canadian became not only frightfully odd, but extremely phobic of all that was female. Not because he was prejudice against women, sorta, but because he was scared the same thing would happen.

Things got better in the Academy, though, and soon Hutchcraft was back on his feet. He had pretty much forgotten about Diana, but it was the confession of the disease from the young lad Casey, and red lipstick on Mr. Blair's face, that brought back these awful feelings.

Worst of all, though, was knowing that he had caught the worst state of the illness. In it's weaker form, the plague is an enjoyable curiousity, rather than a painful one. Whether Hutchcraft's anger was directed at himself, for not being good enough, Diana, for not feeling the same, or Casey, Ti, Blair and Morris, for simply getting the better end of the stick, was something not even he could figure out.

--------------

Still, life goes on. It's not as tolerable as before, but it does go on regardless. Whether this is good, or bad, is another question left for another story entirely.

The Lieutenant walked in to Main Engineering to see nearly all of his crew assembled. It was time to sort out the new officers, and get the crew working at 100% once again.

He looked at his new staff, and his old staff, but did not crack a smile. The time was not for sarcastic wit or charm, or smiling or acting nice. Not even the curious nature Hutchcraft propelled was with him today. Today, he was a black cloud. Not one that spat lightning, but a black one.

"Hello everyone, greetings to the new officers" Hutchcraft sat on his chair, and spoke in a tiresome voice. It felt like he had gone through this a thousand times, even though this was only the second major meeting of staff.

"We'll be cutting down on maintenance and repair work from now on, since we're nearly completed our work since we left the Void. The crew I want working on repairs are Ensign Hewson, Boudreau, Wadell, Ba'kel, Specialist Kartain and myself. Everyone else is to continue with general operations"

The staff seemed receptive of what Hutchcraft was saying. Many were quite tired of repair-work, to simply move on to general Engineer work was a welcome relief.

"Is there any questions?" Hutchcraft asked.

Hewson looked interested "What about shifts?"

Placing a PADD on to a console, Hutchcraft began "Alpha shift will be headed by myself, Beta shift Mr.Chiron, and finally Ensign Mercury will take Gamma. For the rest of you, this PADD will tell you which shift your under. If you have any problems, please say so"

The officers consulted the PADD quickly. Most had no problems, except one. "Sir, me, I can't work Alpha Shift..."

"Very funny, Miss Bates. I'm not in the mood, thank you" Hutchcraft answered, knowing that Bates was acting in a non-serious, and childish manor. She nodded, walking back, feeling like a child being told to not to do something.

"That all? Good. Officers, your dismissed" Hutchcraft commented. The Alpha Shift crew went to their stations, while the other shifts went about their work.

Hutchcraft sighed. It would pass by, but 'twas not a good thing at all. He predicted that hard work would get him out of the bad mood, and so it went to his desk, and began to file reports ...

James Donovan - Riel Elitia

USS Galaxy
Lt. Deiran Casey
"Butterflies and Bouquets"

Deiran was now in the heat of the battle. He could see that Andy had been practicing, he was good, but Casey knew he was better. Andy moved his lance just at the opportune time and Casey took advantage and knocked him off his steed. Hutch slammed into the ground, really hard. Casey flew off his horse ready to end it, and to take the hand of the most beautiful young woman he had ever seen.

But, as Deiran dismounted, Hutch surrendered his sword.

A tremendous roar rang through the crowd. Deiran bowed, unsheathed his sword and walked to the grandstands to present it to his lovely maiden.

He kneeled down before Miran and handed his sword to her. She in turn handed it to King Robert Edward Lee Price, who then spoke, "You have won the day Lord Casey! You now have the honor of marrying my daughter. Take her hand, love her and cherish her throughout your lives together."

Deiran, Miran and the King stood. The King then presented the couple to the crowd and more cheers and roars began to fill the air.

It was a memory Deiran would remember always. He would remember how beautiful Miran was and how fun it was to win 2 of the 3 tournaments in fair combat.

*** Next Day, Captain’s Ready Room, 1630 hours ***

"Come in," the Captain’s voice said, responding to the chimes of the doors to his ready room.

The doors opened and Casey, still in dress uniform, entered and stood in front of the Captain’s desk.

"Captain, may I have a minute of your time?" Casey asked.

The captain noticed Casey looked a little green. "Sure, Deiran, have a seat."

Deiran sat in the nearest chair.

"Sir, I have 40 relatives coming for this wedding. I was wondering if it would be possible to accommodate them all for two nights and three days?"

"Well, I think we can manage it. Who will be coming?" Lee asked.

Casey handed the captain a PADD. "This is the list, sir."

Price looked it over. An Admiral, a Vice Admiral, a Rear Admiral, 2 Ambassadors and their wives, a Commodore, 2 Captain’s and their wives and a host of Lieutenants, Ensigns and civilians.

"That’s quite a list, Deiran, are they all your family?"

"Yes, sir. They have to be here. I’m a popular member of my family, everyone wants to see me get married and would kill me if they weren’t invited. So, I had to invite them. My father pulled some strings and they’ll be arriving on the Galaxy via the USS Constellation in a few hours."

"All right, I’ll make the arrangements."

Deiran stood and thanked the Captain and started for the door.

Lee stopped him, "Deiran, you look a little green, are you okay?"

"Yes, thank you captain, just a little nervous."

"Lt. Deiran Casey nervous? I never thought I’d see the day ‘mate!"

Deiran smiled, "Well, sir, I don’t get married everyday either."

"Good point ‘mate."

*** Ten Forward , 1645 hours***

When Deiran entered Ten Forward, none of his friends were in there, which was unusual considering how much they enjoyed drinking. Deiran sat down and waited to get the word that his family had arrived. He was nervous about everything. His stomach seemed to be going warp 10 and he couldn’t stop thinking about being married. It weighed on him like a ton.

He wanted this marriage, knew he had to be with Miran. He loved her so much. But, the finality of vows, his career, every thought that could effect his life and career, seemed to churn through him.

He ordered a glass of orange juice from the waiter. He began to notice all the women in the bar. Which was something he hadn’t been doing since after his first date with Miran. He didn’t like that. Miran was the only girl he wanted, he knew that.

The waiter returned with his juice. Hopefully the acid would settle his stomach.

It didn’t. "Help me!" He screamed with his thoughts. He couldn’t take this anymore. He had to get help. He wanted to be with Miran, wanted to marry her, but all this confusion, the butterflies wouldn’t go away, the anxiety hit him like a semi truck and it knocked him clean on his ethereal butt, speaking in the realm of his mind of course.

He tapped his comm badge, "Lt. Casey to Counselor Salshyar."

[Dev here. What can I do for you Deiran?]

"I was wondering if I might speak with you for a few minutes? I’m having some jitters and really need help."

[Yes, I’ll give my other appointments to my staff. I’ll see you as soon as you get here.]

"Thank you Counselor."

Deiran finished his juice. As he walked to the turbolift his knees started to shake, his palms were sweaty. He wiped sweat off his brow. He checked the time. Just 14 hours to the wedding.

*** Counselor’s Office, 1720 hours ***

Deiran entered the counselor’s office. He was all nerves, and he wasn’t accustomed to paying attention to them. He was the "Iceman" but that ice seemed to be melting when faced with wedding vows, nobody’s perfect.

The Counselor was a very beautiful woman, he was noticing other women lately and he didn’t like that. He only wanted to notice Miran, to have eyes only for her. But, his mentality was changing.

"Deiran, please, come in. Have a seat," Dev said with a pretty smile on her face.

"Thank you," he said.

"What can I do for you?" Dev asked.

"Well, as you know I’m getting married in 14 hours. And I’m…well, I’m—" Deiran started to ramble as he spoke. Jittery just wasn’t the word for it.

Dev could see and sense how nervous he was. She felt sorry for him.

"Counselor, I’m not used to these feelings, I don’t know how to combat them. I’ve never been affected this way—ever! Put me on a Bridge in front of 100 Void Co-Op ships or Borg cubes and I’m a rock. But, marriage is little tougher than I anticipated."

"Are you saying that marriage is more difficult than fighting the Borg?" Dev asked, smiling at the thought.

"Well, yeah, right now it is. I’m going to give my life, my heart to Miran…." His voice trailed off, Dev didn’t hear his voice, but heard his thoughts.

"Do you love her?" Dev asked.

"More than life itself, Counselor. This isn’t because I don’t love Miran. To be honest I don’t know why I’m feeling this way."

"I think you’re over reacting to the situation, that’s all." Dev was trying to calm him, it wasn’t working. She had to get to the root of the problem.

"Deiran, what’s really wrong? You say you love her more than life itself, but you’re nervous about marrying her. I’m sensing there’s something else that’s wrong. What is it?" Dev was going to get it out of him one way or another.

He was quiet for a long time.

"Two things I think. One: I’m concerned that Miran will never get over Robert Stephin and truly give her heart to me. Two: My career. I don’t want my career affected by my marriage. And I don’t want my marriage affected by my career. I’ve tried to find a solution to find common ground there, but to no avail."

"That’s a start. That’s what I was sensing," Dev responded, taking a few notes as she spoke.

"Counselor, you know that if I wasn’t in real trouble, I wouldn’t be here. I’m very independent, I handle my own problems, usually. But, this is something I’ve never had to deal with in my life and that’s why I think I’m reacting in this way. You will never see me again in this office, don’t take that wrong, I’m just a strong person emotionally, physically, mentally."

"Yeah, you have it all together Deiran," Dev smiled. Talk about illusionist fantasies, she thought. She knew no one had it all together. Of course she hasn’t known Deiran that long.

"What do I do?" Deiran asked.

"Miran has let go of Robert. She loves you just as much as you love her. Your career will eventually take care of itself. Be flexible."

"I’m feeling a little better, Counselor, thank you. I’ll go now." Deiran stood up to leave and stopped when Dev spoke again. "I’ll get you back here and cut through that macho, strong, Iceman wall you’ve put up!" Dev said, completely serious.

"Devlynn, you take that from me, you kill Deiran Casey!" And with that he left the office.

*** The next day, Transporter Room 3, 1500 hours ***

"Energize, Chief!" Casey said to Jensen. His parents and grandparents would be the first to transport over from the Constellation.

Miran was holding Deiran’s hand, he thought she was going to break it, she was squeezing hard. Obviously nervous about meeting so many people. He had told her on the way, that they were family now and she had nothing to worry about. It didn’t help. He liked having her rely on him in these situations though.

A blue energy beam and four bodies materialized on the transporter pads.

"Deiran!" Vice Admiral Allison Allen Casey, the mother of the groom, ran toward her son and hugged him.

"Hi Mom!" he said, in that little boy way when they’re getting squooshed and smothered with kisses.

"Son, good to see you. You’re looking fit as ever. Those two pips look good on you, I look forward to seeing a black pip right there," Admiral Thomas Casey pointed where the Lt. Commander black pip would go when he finally received his promotion.

"Thanks dad, I look forward to seeing that black pip too, I’m looking for the four pips actually," he smiled knowing his father would like that.

Deiran introduced his future bride, "Mom, Dad, Great-Granddad and Grandmom, this is Ti Miran."

Miran put out her hand out to greet them, but everyone gave her a hug instead. She wasn’t used to it and was a little shocked by it.

"I like her, she’s stunning, Deiran." His mother said. "You and I must spend time together, honey. We’re family now."

"Yes mam," Miran returned.

"Deiran you couldn’t have found a more beautiful woman," his great-granddad said as he gave Miran a kiss on the cheek, "It’s a pleasure to meet you young lady."

"Thank you sir."

"Miran, you’re perfect for Deiran. I want you to be happy with my great-grandson," grandmother Casey said.

"I already am, mam," she smiled.

Miran, without trying, was charming the Casey’s. Deiran knew she would.

Then the rest of the family started to beam aboard. 40 Casey’s had invaded the ship. Deiran st

arted a greeting line and introduced every member of his family to his future wife.

"You’ve met my parents and great-grandparents. This is my sister Alexa." Alexa gave Miran a hug and smiled. They were cordial, Alexa gave Miran a good impression of her. "Lt. Callan Casey, my cousin. This is Ambassador John Casey, my grandfather. This is James J. Allen, my grandfather and my mother’s father and his wife, my grandmom, Amanda Allen. My Dad’s brother, Commodore Hal Casey and his wife Kelly. My uncle, Keiran York and Aunt Anna, my mother’s sister. This is my best man, Lt.(JG) Christopher Hallor. Cousins, Ensign Jeff Casey, Ensign Jenna Casey, Lt.(JG) Jack Casey, Lt.(JG) Will York, Terra York. My Dad’s sister, my aunt, Bridget Harrison, her son Lt. Tal Harrison, my favorite cousin Heather Harrison. My mother’s sister, my aunt, Amber Allen Johnson, her husband, Dr. Harry Johnson, my cousins Taylor Johnson, Ensign Jay Johnson. One of my favorite uncles, Captain Colin Casey, stationed on the USS Lincoln, my other uncle Dr. Kearne Casey. My great aunt on my mother’s side, Dr. Anastasia Allen Matthews, Rear Admiral Frank T. Casey, my father’s brother, and his wife Georgia. Their children Ensign McKay Casey, Lt.(JG) Luke Casey, David Casey, Ensign Cale Casey. My mother’s brother, Captain Anthony Allen, commanding the USS Ticonderoga, his wife Kerra. My cousins, Abigail Allen, Ensign Anjelica Allen, and last but not least Ensign John James Allen."

Miran wanted to faint. They were all hugging her and kissing her and showering her with affection. All she did was accept Deiran’s marriage proposal and she became part of a clan. It was all overwhelming for her.

"That’s it, that’s everyone," Deiran said, looking down at her.

"Are you sure? No one is going to come out of the woodwork? You’re not hiding anyone?" Miran asked, totally serious.

"Yes, a couple couldn’t make it, but they’ve sent us best wishes and some nice gifts."

"How many couldn’t make it?" Miran wondered.

"Oh, only about fifteen."

"Okay, I’m leaving now. I have to get ready to marry you," she said with a beautiful smile on her face, she was shining from the inside out.

"And that’s the only reason I’d let you out of my sight. You’re still going to marry me?" He asked, smiling, he liked playing with her.

"Yes, I’m in too deep, you’ve captured me and I won’t let you let me go." She walked out of the transporter room, and blew another kiss at him as she left, she looked at him, flirting with him with every move of her body as she left the room. Deiran watched as she left, and he knew he had to have that girl, no doubt about it. He was hooked.

*** Admiral’s quarters, 1530 hours ***

"I trust these quarters are satisfactory Admiral?" Captain Price asked.

"Yes, Lee, they’ll do just fine. Thank you," Thomas Casey responded.

"I’ll let you wind down after your long trip, then Admiral," he said to Deiran’s father and walked to Deiran’s mother, "Admiral Casey, a pleasure to meet you mam."

"Thank you Captain, you have a fine ship," Allison returned with perfect elegance and refinement but in a warm way.

"Yes, mam, she is a fine ship. Please enjoy your stay," Captain Price’s accent was heavy, more than usual. He left the room.

"Deiran, you should be getting ready. Go to your quarters, go on," his mother pushed him out of the room and shut the door.

*** Casey’s quarters, 1545 hours ***

Deiran looked at the tux laying out on the bed. His hands were still sweaty. But, he had the picture of Miran walking out the Transporter room and that look in her eyes. He thought about that look again and started to get ready for the ceremony.

He kind of liked tuxes, they should make the dress uniforms like this he thought.

He showered, put on some nice cologne, something from Risa. And started to put his tux on. He liked the fabric, it was a cross between satin and silk, with cotton thrown in. It wasn’t an earth fabric, but it sure felt nice. He wore the standard 24th century tux, it was black, the shirt was white, he wore a black bow tie. The tux fit him perfectly, like a Baldini tux would have if he was married in the 20th Century.

Deiran looked at himself in the mirror. He checked everything, making sure he looked spotless and perfect. He did.

"Deiran Casey, you are a blessed man." He said to his reflection in the mirror and exited his quarters. Speaking of his marriage to Miran, not his reflection.

*** Hallor’s quarters ***

"Come in Deiran, just putting this stupid tie on and we can go."

"I appreciate you doing this for me Chris."

"Hey, I’m honored. What are best friends for?" he smiled. "Are you nervous?" Chris asked.

"Please don’t bring that up," that was the last thing Deiran wanted to bring up, why was it friends always asked the wrong questions at the wrong time?

"Okay, I’m ready, let’s go get you hitched," Chris said as they both walked out the door and headed for the ceremony.

*** Holodeck 2, 1600 hours ***

Deiran was 15 minutes early. He was always early. He took his pictures, he never saw Miran during this time. He took pictures with the ushers, Troy was making weird faces at the camera. He took pictures with the Bridesmaids, Ronni was making weird faces at the camera.

Once that was finished, it was just a half hour before the ceremony would begin.

There was a room near the apple blossoms and chairs for the wedding, for the Groom, the Best Man and Captain Price to wait until it was time to begin.

Those 30 minutes seemed like an eternity. Chris and Captain Price were getting some good laughs at Deiran’s expense. His face was red, beat, dark red, he was having trouble breathing, he was sweating and his eyes were bulging out. This was not the best time for him. But two minutes before the wedding, Deiran finally composed himself.

The music started and Deiran and the others came out and stood in front of the large crowd. Family, friends and ship mates composed the crowd.

The wedding song started, and Troy and Kateli started down the aisle.

Troy was looking serious for once. Casey was surprised.

The other ushers and Bridemaids came down the aisle. And then Miran, accompanied by Mr. Stephin.

When Deiran saw her, all the nerves flew out the window and his love for her took over. He needed her, wanted her and couldn’t live without her, the heck with the butterflies, he wanted the bouquet.

The music, the people were all a blur. His eyes wouldn’t stray from Miran. She was the most stunning, beautiful woman he had ever seen.

She reached the front. Her dress was breathtaking.

Deiran took Miran’s hand, wrapping it around his, as they both listened intently to the captain’s words.

"Do you Deiran James Casey, take Ti Miran to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and hold, till death do you part?"

With all of his passion and love, he responded, "I do." He slipped an expensive diamond ring on her finger.

"Do you Ti Miran, take Deiran James Casey to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold till death do you part?"

"I do," she said. Miran put Deiran’s ring on his finger.

The captain then continued, "Now, with the power invested in me by the United Federation Of Planets and the Creator, I pronounce you husband and wife."

Deiran was no longer single. He liked the way it felt.

"Gamma Shift"
by Ensign David Mercury

*****************Main Engineering*******************

"Bahlin Kartain reporting for duty, sir"

"At ease, no need to call me sir, Dave will be fine."

"You can call me Bahlin."

"Well, welcome aboard Bahlin, let me get you up to date. The ship sustained severe damages from the Co-Op. Deck 22 was hit the hardest, and the Regulators were temporally locked out during the battle. They have been repaired but for some reason the Regulators appear to have a slight fluctuation. Bahlin, I want you and Ensign Dana to have a look and find out what seems to be the problem with Regulators. Bahlin, if you have an questions, problems or complaints please come talk to me. I will be on Deck 22 with Ensign Ba'Kel, repairs have been slowed due to the plasma burns throughout the deck."

"Yes sir, I will get right on it."

******************Deck 22*****************************

[Kartain to Mercury]

[Go ahead Bahlin]

[Sir, we have completed our investigation and we have some bad news]

[On my way]

"Ensign Ba'Kel please report to me when your shift is over to fill me in on the progress of the repairs, I have to go to Engineering," David said as he walked into the turbolift.

***************Main Engineering*********************

"Dave the problem is a lot worse than it appears to be. The fluctuations are being caused be a fused power strip on the Regulator. We could repair the strip but it is in a bad location I feel that it would make more sense to just replace the entire Regulator."

"O.K., Bahlin, I will run it by Hutch."

*************End of Gamma Shift********************

"Ensign Mercury, anything to report," Lieutenant Commander HutchCraft asked as he walked into Engineering.

"We have a problem with those Regulators that were damaged by the Co-Op. A damaged power strip appears to be causing fluctuations in the Regulators. Mr. Kartain and Ensign Dana have been working on them and have determined that the best course of action would be to replace the entire Regulator. Repairs to Deck 22 are stilled slowed but appear to be almost complete. Everything else is functioning normally, sir."

"Thank you Ensign, you are relieved," Lt. Commander HutchCraft answered.

"Aye sir"

David left Engineering and headed for the turbolift. The doors opened and out stepped Ensign Boudreau.

"Hello Ensign, welcome aboard. I don't know if you remember but we met at the Academy, outside the Cochrane Building about two years ago. We were both coming out of a seminar on "Cochrane Distortion". I graduated a year before you, in 72."

"Yes, I do remember, if my memory serves me right, you just found out that you got an internship with one of the local scientists."

"That's right, well I was hoping that maybe we could get together and talk over dinner sometime," David asked nervously.

David entered the turbolift, "Deck 8", as the doors shut and he got a last glimpse of Ensign Boudreau, he began to realize something about himself that he would have never thought could happen. He initiated a casual conversation, with a women no less. The weekly counseling obviously is having an effect, David thought. "Counseling, I almost forgot."

[Mercury to Salshyar]

[Go ahead Ensign]

[I was hoping that we could meet to continue our session]

"Time Differences"
By Ensign AC Hewson

The Bri-ma-Shad Auditorium on Landos IV was filled to capacity. For over two hundred years, Landos IV had been the site of some of the most famous concerts ever. NuNu Gradiyytn from Cyyls, Manda Opox from Tranmosvis V, and Fivish Ern from Galtros Prime were just a few of the greats to perform on Landos. Tonight, the famous Janrim Symphony from Hagrus were to perform their greatest concert in the past fifteen years, and Alan Hewson had acquired a seat on the front row.

Alan was dressed in suit made of Triss silk. The dark green material would slowly change different colors depending on the sound of music it came into contact with. Secretly, he had always wished for a suit like this, and he couldn't quite recall how he managed obtain it. The night almost seemed to perfect. As he sat down, he noticed that the women sitting to his right was Ensign Mèlissa Boudreau.

"Mèlissa, I had no idea that you liked Hagrusion music! How did you manage to get a seat on the front row too?" Alan was amazed to see that the attractive young Ensign was in attendance.

"Well, it wasn't easy. But you know, timing is everything. I'm right, aren't I?"

"Yes, you are right, timing is every. I've found that ad things can happen when you don't have the right time." The words sounded very strange to Alan as he spoke them. He wondered why he was talking about time when the greatest concert of the decade was about to start.

With a jolt that ran down his spine, Alan sat straight up in bed.

"Computer, tell me the shift schedule that is used aboard this vessel," he had gone from a dead sleep right into full awareness.

"Alpha Shift runs from 08:00 to 16:00, Beta runs from 16:00 to 00:00, and Gamma runs from…"

"…0:00 to 8:00," he finished the sentence in unison with the computer. "Computer, what is the current time?"

"The current time is 0:47."

On his last assignment at Starbase 314, a three-shift schedule was in effect that was very similar to the Galaxy's. However, Alpha shift began at 0:00 and ran to 8:00, and then Beta took over. He had assumed that the Galaxy used the same schedule. Unfortunately, it did not.

Stumbling in the darkness, he made his way to his computer terminal. Increasing the light would have been easier, but he did not feel like readjusting his eyes. He made out a message to Counselor Salshyar asking her if it was possible to change the time of his tests. Believing that Beta shift started at 08:00, he had wanted to take the tests at 06:00, which would have allowed him two hours to test before his shift began. Now, he saw no reason to take the tests at that time. He requested his appointment to be changed to 15:00.

Cursing himself for his mistake, he sent the message and slid back into his bed. Perhaps he could catch the last half of the concert if he hurried…

"Bat'leth Practice"
by Ensign Jurelle Tash

Jurelle woke up early the next day. Jurelle was surprised and pleased at the early hour. She was a night owl and usually was late to bed and late to rise but she had been tired after travelling, settling in and the party on the holodeck the day before so she had gone to bed early. She rose, showered and dressed in leggings and a sweatshirt.

'There are four new messages' the computer intoned in its annoying monotone. The message from Dr Salshyar made her cringe, she would have to make a time to see the counsellor and do her test. Jurelle also needed to take care of her physical before too much longer. There was also message from Ensign Harris inviting her to the holodeck, an acknowledgement from her mother about her change of address and a good luck message from Mirresh.

Jurelle sent a message to the counsellor to request an appointment time to do her test and, wondering what he was up to, sent an affirming message to ensign Harris. It still being early, Jurelle thought she would install her workout programs into the holodecks memory banks and get a workout in.

Jurelle walked into the empty holodeck. 'computer, begin program Tash two alpha, level one, single player, bat'leth'. Jurelle took up the bat'leth and weighed it in her hand. She made a mental note to chase up a real bat'leth one day soon and turned it in a slow circle. Jurelle decided to forgo warming up, figuring starting on level one was warmup enough. 'Begin'. The opponent started circling slowly to the right. Jurelle swung the bat'leth over her head and stepped in to engage her opponent in battle.

Forty minutes later Jurelle was up to level three and sweat was starting to bead on her forehead. Jurelle had been working at this program for six years now. Last year she had gotten up to level four, the second last level. She didn't know anybody who had ever got up to level five but Jurelle was damned if she was going to let the program beat her.

Half way through level four she started to lose it. There were three opponents now and the bat'leth was starting to get very heavy. Sweat was starting to obscure her vision as Jurelle had forgotten to bring her sweatbands and she was getting tired.

'Stop program', Jurelle stood for a moment to catch her breath and then started to warm down with some stretches and yoga. Jurelle was very out of practice, she usually got up to four opponents before they got on top of her. She looked forward to getting back i

nto her favourite programs. She hadn't had access to a holodeck since she had left the academy and she had missed the chance to spar with an opponent of her standard. But, for now, duty called, and she had to wash and change before her first shift. Jurelle left the holodeck and made her way back to her quarters.

Back in her quarters, Jurelle washed and put her uniform on. It felt comfortable. She had worn it before, on graduation at the academy and on the way to the Galaxy but now it felt different as this ship was her ship. She was not just a visitor here and it felt good. She was looking forward to meeting her workmates and senior officers. She left her quarters to make it to the sickbay early so she could have some time before her shift to look around the medical suite and meet the staff.

"Work"
by Ensign Thomas - Ops, USS Galaxy

Chris had finished ordering the Betazoid items that he had found to be most acurate. He wanted to make things more homely for Cobly and one way was to do this, then so be it. He needed to help Colby feel safe again. He then headed for his quarters so that he could drop them off before going to pick up Colby who was with the counselor. Chris walked through the hallways, looking at each of them with a different prespective, his life had again changed in a blink of an eye. He and Colby had a lot of hard work ahead of them as they tried to get to know each other. Chris was going to have learn some knew things about his son. Which including learning more about Betazed in order to better understand Colby, or atleast he could hope that would provide some insight. He also needed to run by Holodeck 5 and check with the professor and Data about the progress. Though he was going to need a couple of days to get back up to speed with them. He also still needed to run by and talk with engineering about the design plans for his mobile holo-emitter. Then his shift was to begin in four hours. He quickly hoped into the nearest turbolift.

"Computer Deck 18"

*** Ensign Thomas' Quarters ***

He quickly set the three items that he managed to replicate down on his desk and relaxed for a minute, taking a deep breath. Then he picked up the PADD that contained almost of the work on the mobile holo-emitter. He placed the other PADD out of Colby's reached and password protected it, just in case something might attract him to the PADD. He then left his quarters heading back to the turbolift. He also had to schdule a time for his test that he was required to take. He reached the trubolift and stepped into it he was going to need a vaction at this rate of pace. He consider that thought for a momment a decided that he was going to need to do as soon as the initial rush of problems were resolved, he would layout a weekly interary so that he could make to accomplish everything that he had to do on a day to day basis, and hopefully he would then be better prepared to handle unexpected problems.

Chris was begining to fall in love with Dev, though the only logical explanation was that he was just confused. Even if his feallings for her were true, he couldn't do anything about them. He loved his wife, and he was beginning to care about Dev, which was silly. He had never felt this way about any woman except Gwyen and now to feal the sameway about Dev. He consider the implactions of such fealings and decided to leave them alone for now.

*** Holodeck 5 ***

"How are we doing today gentlemen?" Chris asked as he stepped onto the holodeck. He hadn't been here in couple of days so he was going to have to do a lot of catch up, in order to be back to speed with the project. Now of course with Colby in his life things where going to become even more diffuclt to acheive.

"We are doing just fine. What about you, how are you doing today?" Dr. Soong responded, as he waited for Data to make his move.

"I'm doing fine, a little tired." Chris said, though he could't believe that he was responding.

"We decided to take a break, sine you hadn't been around much. We've been playing chess most of the time, with occasionaly playing some cards." Data said as he moved his knight. He was playing again Dr. Soong, this was not exactly who the program was to be running, but according to the safety proticols everything was operating within controled parameters.

"I just stopped by to pick up the latest design and information that you have come with on the mobile holoemitters. I will be very busy for the next couple of days atleast so go ahead and continue taking your break you've earned it, as far as I am concerned." Chris said as Data copied the information onto the PADD that he had brought with him. He was going to have to study was happening here more closer when he gets the chance to do so.

"There you go Chris, all the new information has been added to the old information that you had. I hope that there will be no problems with the information." Data said as he returned to his chaid and resumed the game.

"I doubt there will be and if there is I will come back and ask for additional information. Until then I'll see you later." Chris said as stepped out of the holodeck. He had his work cut out for him over the next couple of weeks if he planned to continue his project. He headed straight for main Egineering he needed to talk with someone down about the design plans for the mobile holo-emitter.

*** Main Engineering ***

He found Lt. Chiron on duty and asked for his help on the phase of the project. He provided with a copy of the current data and asked if he could review and then tell Chris what his thoughts and the Chief's were in a couple of days.

They spent the next twenty minutes or so talking about the informaiton on the PADD. Chris was happy that he had convinced Lt. Chiron to atleast talk about it further with and also with the Chief Engineer. Chris needed to go by and pick up Colby from the counselor who had been looking after him.

*** Counselor's Officer ***

Chris arrived at the counselor's office and Colby was exicted to see him, so that he could get away from the counselor who enjoyed using the word school.

"Chris I'm ready to go home now." Colby said, trying to speed up there depature from the counselor.

"OK in a minute I need to talk with the counselor and make some additional arrangements." Chris said. He had to setup his time for the test that the counselor had schduled for the crew.

"Why?" Colby asked, trying to sound exteremly tried and sleepy.

"Counselor I would like to set up my test time for 18:00 hours tommrow, also how did Colby do on his test?" Chris asked.

"I still have to reveiw the results, but I'll let you know as soon as I know. Further I have you down for 18:00 hours tommrow for the tests."

"Ok, well I guess we better be going, or Colby won't get enough sleep tonight." Chris said taking Colby's hand and heading for the door. "Good Night" Chris said, though he wanted to added more, he decided now wasn't the right time.

Chris and Colby left the counselors officer and headed for there quarters. Chris decided that the stuff that he had got, could wait until tommrow.

*** Ensign Thomas's Quarters ***

They walked into his quarters, Chris was do on duty shortly so he tucked Colby in for the night. Chris walked out of the bedroom and cleaned and headed for the bridge. He was going to have get used to having Colby around although time. Which wasn't a bad thing it just meant that he was going to have better orgainze the use of his time.

*** Bridge, USS Galaxy Gamma Shift ***

Chris stepped out of the turbolift an onto the bridge. He was about ten minutes earlier, for his shift. Ensign Duncan was manning the ops position during Beta shift. Chris really hadn't gotten to known Ensign Ducan that well, because there different shift schdules. Lt. Casey had informed him that there was another Operations officer who was on leave. Things would again change once he returned to active duty. He stood quitely at back science station waiting. He was in no hurry, though he was ready for this day to begin.

"Gamma Shift report for duty." Commander Coe said.

Chris walked over to the ops station and took over for Ensign Duncan. They said there ussual greeting of 'hello' and 'goodbye', this took place ever night so far, they were tyring to establish some pattern of nomallity to there job. Chris said and started reviewing the informaiton, while Commander Coe filled Lt. Ti on the ship status. Chris had missed there wedding, more by choice than anything else. He had sent them a letter telling them that he couldn't make it, for personal reasons.

Chris worked his shift hoping that something interesting would happen that end this dull-drum, but that wouldn't put the ship in any danger. He was going to have to be more protective with Colby onboard the Galaxy. The experts have argured over whether families, non-starfleet personal should be allowed to live onboard a starship. There was no clear cut answer and the debate has been going on for sometime now with no apperant answer. Which was no real surprise to anyone who consider the question.

His working gamma shift was going to make things interesting, for him and Colby. Though atleast Colby would be a sleep while he was on duty. The number of problems that could arise were overwhelming, but so were the number of happy times that he and Colby were likely to share. Chris took a deep breath and returned his thougts to his duty at ops, he needed to be focused even at this time of day. He worked his shift without having any problems come up, during his shift. His shift ended when L:t. Casey releived him. Chris headed straight for his quarters to check on Colby and then to try and get some sleep.

*** Ensign Thomas' Quarters ***

Chris walked into his quarters, hopefully the arrangement for new living accomendations would't take long. He checked in Colby who was still sound to sleep his bed. Chris went back out and layed down on the floor, and strected out. Though sleeping on the floor on a Federation starship was unusal, he didn't think anything of it. His time with the Klingons had proven that sleeping anywhere that was safe enough to get some sleep, was good. He quickly fell a sleep in no time.

Five hours later he woke up and strected before getting up from the floor. He doubt that Colby was still a sleep, but he decided to check in on him anyway. He was already up and gone somewhere. This was going to prove to be a challenge of keeping tract of Colby. He was sure glad school would be starting soon and hopefully that would keep Colby out of trouble for atleast little while.

"Computer where is Colby Torwyn?" Chris asked as yawned. Though Thomas was his lastest name, the computer would know who he was looking for.

"Colby is with Counselor Salshyar, at the ships school room." Chris figured that was fine, he needed some more sleep. He went back to sleep on the floor, he found that it was more comforatable than his bed.

He get three hours later and prepared to start a new day. He took a shower and got dress. He almost always wore his Starfleet uniform, mainly out of habit than anything else. He still had a ton of things that needed to be done, but slowy he was reducing that list. He headed for ten-forwarded he wanted something to eat and some company to talk to while he ate. He was schduled to take his test today, in less than an hour.

"Not a morning person!"
By: Ensign Mélissa Marie Boudreau

It was 0600 and Mélissa was slowly getting up. "I hate mornings!" This was going to be a very important day, she could tell already.

"Computer, scan for new messages and display them on this console." She made the request as she walked towards her computer. What better way to wake up than to read her new messages.

There was a message from Ensign Harris inviting her to the holodeck. She replied affimatively, at the same time making a schedule for the day. The next message from the counselor about the "dreaded tests". She sent a message to Counselor Salshyar scheduling her test for 1800 the next day. Then there was something from the doctor about dropping in for a physical. Mélissa decided to do so whenever she was done in the holodeck that evening.

The last message was from her family on Earth. She hadn't seen them or talked to them since graduation. She wrote back quickly.

+++

Salut tout le monde!

I can't write long because I have to go on duty soon. I promise I'll write more later. The Galaxy has been pretty interesting so far. Say hi to everyone in Québec for me. Bye!

Mélissa

+++

After eating, showering, excercising and putting on her uniform, Mélissa was ready to head for work. She passed through a few hallways and took a few turbolifts (taking the scenic route) to finally end up near Main Engineering. As she got out of the turbolift she almost didn't notice Ensign David Mercury.

"Hello Ensign, welcome aboard. I don't know if you remember but we met at the Academy, outside the Cochrane Building about two years ago. We were both coming out of a seminar on "Cochrane Distortion". I graduated a year before you, in 72."

"Yes, I do remember, if my memory serves me right, you just found out that you got an internship with one of the local scientists." Mélissa was blushing. It was nice to see someone she hadn't just met a few days ago.

"That's right, well I was hoping that maybe we could get together and talk over dinner sometime," David asked nervously.

The Québecoise laughed quietly, surprised. She wasn't in the habit of being asked out. "Umm... Sure. How about the day after tommorow at 1800. The next couple of days are a little busy for me."

He agreed and entered the turbolift. Mélissa stiffled a small yawn and walked into engineering. She got her assignment from Lt. Hutchcraft and went straight to work. It was going to be an interesting day if the beginning of it was any indication.
