Miran felt bad about the way she reacted to the Cardassian's presence. He wasn't one that hurt her, he wasn't even half Cardassian. Even though, all she could see was the Cardassians on Cardassia IV.
She didn't know exactly what to do but she got a little pot of Aloe Vera. It was a plant that Kateli loved, she hoped that this man would too. From his bio she found that he liked violin and included a PADD of little known pieces, though since she got it from the computer, he probably had heard them or had them on file.
Miran felt a more than a little scared. Butterflies danced, knees seemed wobbly. She had to do this, she would never be able to get over the site of Cardassians if she didn't make friends now. He was working behind the bar when she came up.
"Umm... Excuse me... Mr.. Mr Dorffen.. sir," she stammered. She felt as a rock had lodged in her throat. "I.. I wanted to say.. say I am.. I am sorry."
Door looked up from work to find that same blond Bajoran from the previous day attempting to smile down at him. He had only caught the last part of her apology, and now, sensing her regret tinged with a slight fear, he felt awful for doing so.
"Miss Casey!" he exclaimed, probably miss using her Bajoran/Terran names, "It's fine, really."
He could sense relief in her, relief that he hadn't done what though? Hadn't attacked her, hadn't tortured her..? What? He blocked the thougths out of his mind as he smiled back at the poor woman- obviously she'd suffered trauma with Cardassians in the past, as had most Bajorans.
"Casey Ti, I kept my name too, Please, call me Miran." He really didn't seem too bad.
There was an uncomfortable silence.
"Well..." said Door, breaking it and searching for words to continue. An idea sprung into his head, "Miran, I hear there is a Beach party. Would you do the honor of attending with me?"
Miran considered his offer. Deiran probably would be busy with who knows what. She was tired of trying to keep up with him. It would be nice to have one uninterrupted evening.
"I would enjoy that. I would have to get Lara first."
"Lara?" he asked.
"The Baby," Miran explained, smiling, "Listen, I need to go get Lara, and we both need to change our clothes, so how about we meet outside the holodeck in five-ten minutes?"
"That'd be great- see you there then." said Door as he parted to find Electra (Or even that >ahem< 'interesting'-looking K'Tarian woman) to look after the bar for him while he was gone.
Miran left the presents behind the bar for the young and excited (But trying to hide it) Betazoid.
*
Ten minutes later, Door was running around the corner to the string of holodecks in the next coridor. He had replicated himself a pair of dark blue demin shorts and a brighly coloured shirt to go with it- also a base-ball cap for his head.
He rounded the final corner to see Miran standing ready, wearing a plain purple sun dress. She was hold the baby in one arm an had come prepared, carrying a picnic basket with her other hand.
Always the Gentleman, Door relived her of the basket and offered his arm to the Bajoran woman. She smiled and took it knodded forwards so that the doors in front of the opened, let a sweet, warm breeze into the hallway.
"Shall we?"
"Lead the way Mister Dorffen." Miran imitated in his English voice.
"Oh please, call me Door..."
By: ktarian@juno.com (Civilian Xala)
Xala hurried into her quarters after getting off a double shift from the lounge. Her residence on the Galaxy was four times larger than her room at the New Zealand Penal Colony, and she was not required to have a roommate here. Xala had only been on the Galaxy for a few weeks and decorations and knick-knacks were scare. All her personal touches were left aboard her ship, which was confiscated by Starfleet almost five years earlier. Xala tried not to think about that. She hoped to procure some Klingon art pieces at the next starbase the Galaxy docked at. For now there was only a bowl of replicated Ktarian apples sitting in the middle of the coffee table.
The Ktarian woman slinked over to the desk and inserted the disc into the side of her computer terminal. She had found it earlier in the Ten Forward Lounge. Her breath was heavy with anticipation. What could be on the disc? The simple discovery was the first exciting event to happen since she was sentenced to work aboard the Federation starship. Suddenly an ominous face appeared on the screen. It was too dark to completely make out a face, but distinct bumps in the person's forehead could be seen. The person on the screen was a Ktarian or perhaps a Vulnarian or a Ferengi.
"I'm watching," the raspy voice said.
The image and the tone of the voice made Xala slightly uncomfortable. She shifted in her seat while the message continued to repeat itself over and over again. The image was not a familiar one.
"I'm watching," the shape said repeatedly.
Suddenly the door chime sounded behind Xala before she could give anymore thought to the message. Xala jumped a little at the sound. On impulse, she closed the terminal quickly. "Enter," she said with uncertainty in her voice. The doors swished open and Door entered her quarters. The bartender looked happier than usual. He had never visited Xala in her chambers since she had come aboard the ship. So far, they had a strictly "working" relationship.
"Can I help you?" Xala questioned while she stood up.
"I was wondering if you could look after Ten Forward tonight," he said with a smile.
Xala moved away from her desk and closer to the Cardassian. "I just worked a double shift and you want me to work tonight? Why?" the Ktarian asked slyly.
"I don't know if you heard or not, but there is a beach party in the holodeck."
"A beach party?" The thought of beach party perked Xala's interests. "You want me to work a third shift so you can go play at a beach party?"
"I'm sorry. It's a big favor to ask. I'll see if Electra can do it," he stated diplomatically.
"No," she interrupted, "I'll watch the lounge for you."
"Thanks," Door said turning out into the hallway.
Xala moved to the doorway and leaned seductively to one side with her arm raised along the wall. "But you owe me one," Xala said.
Door looked back, smirked, and went on his way, unsure of his new co-worker. Xala went back into her quarters as the door closed behind her. "A beach party," she thought to herself, "This could be the perfect opportunity for everyone to get to know me."
"Computer, show me Risan bathing suits that can be replicated here on the Galaxy in the color silver, preferably ones that use very little material."
"Working," the lovely computer voice replied.
Xala cocked an evil smiled and turned to the wall computer. "It looks like somebody is going to crash a beach party!" the Ktarian said to herself.

Ensign Dr. Dejan Krovajec
Fourth night in USS Galaxy.
Counsellor Krovajek request meeting with Capt. Price and his Commanding Supperiors, Councellor Wilson and Dr. Nilahni.
In the meeting room:
Krovajek: "Ladies and Gentlemen, I've noticed some symptons of kind of traumatic deppression in most people in this Ship. The ratio is 85 % of the total people found in the manifest."
Wilson: "What kind of symptons, Doctor?"
Krovajek: "Some people are violating during their sleep. This is called as "Kirinov Syndrome". This syndrome appears due to the continuous universe battle that they face day by day. If you remember, this syndrome is a little bit similar to that of found in the Vietnam war in 20th century. It's almost similar, only this syndrome is the modern one."
Dr. Nilahni: "It's still difficult to understand. They have passed both medical and psychological check ups in the Starfleet Head Office. How can you..."
Krovajek: "I haven't finished. May I continue?"
Dr. Nilahni: "Sorry, please proceed."
Krovajek: "The sympton is simple. They are doing little violence during their sleeps. They start kicking their own parts of bodies. Based on my deep study, these people have a nightmare in their sleeps. These symptons surely were not detected when they are still on earth. This syndrome will appear only in the space"
Price: "What so dangerous, then? It sounds simple."
Krovajek: "That is the very lower lever symptons, Capt. I've faced one in USS Hercules, I was a councellor there. This person attacked his own captain, and almost fatal. He is now being treated very seriously under control of my wife in Starfleet Psycological Center in New York."
Wilson: "Yes, I've heard that story. Are you specialized in this field, Doctor?"
Krovajek: "It doesn't need any specialization to treat these people. It's only a simple one. I have developed a simple treatment which must be done by all of people on board, and that would include you, Sir (to Capt. Price"
Price: "I won't mind. But how does the test work? Will be there any effect for the crew or something"
Krovajek: "No, Sir. This is only a simple test consisting of 3 levels of test, brain and visual treatment. I cannot tell you in detail now, but I will need your approval since this test will involve all passengers in this vessel."
Dr. Nilahni: "Dr. Krovajek, you'd better explain further about this test or whatever. Even you've not explained us to who and how you made the diagnostic of the symptons?"
Price: "Doctor, please calm down"
Krovajek: "That's OK, Captain. Doctor Nihlani, at this moment, I cannot answer your questions. But, simply, I will need some approvals from my superiors."
Price: "Please procceed, Doctor Krovajek"
Wilson: "Ummph, well... I've noticed the danger of this kind of deppression, OK I give you special permission to do this test to all staff in this USS Galaxy."
Krovajek: "Well, Thank you, Sir and Councellor Wilson. Anyway, I will need Dr. Nihlani's approval either."
Dr. Nihlani: "Gimme some times to consider..."
Krovajek: "Ok, Doctor, please consider this deeply."
After some serious discussion talks among them, finally:
Dr. Nihlani: "OK, please procceed the treatment, Doctor. You said three level of test?"
Krovajek: "Yes, Doctor."
Dr. Nihlani: "You have got my permission only for this 3-level treatment. For more deeper test, you must consult with us again. And that will not be this easy, Doctor..."
Krovajek: "Thank you, Doctor. And of course I will give any situation of this treatment to you all..."
Price: "Well, Doctor Krovajek, the responsibility of any results of this treatment is yours, please do it perfectly."
Krovajek: "You have my words, Captain. Thank you all, and I have to prepare the treatment tonight. Good night, everybody. Oya, Doctor Nihlani and Counsellor Wilson, you will also need to do the treatment."
Wilson: "Whatever, Doc"
Dr. Nilahni: "Humph... That's OK, but please report something positive about me, Doctor..."
Krovajek: "Sure thing, Doc"
--------
Everybody is then dismissed. Wait for Dr. Krovajek's little treatments to all crew, he is now preparing.

Alyssa was currently trying to access the information that was stored in Lt. Erikson's Tricorder, ufortuently it was severly damaged and it dosen't look like it can be retrieved.
(Erikson to Idana) (Idana here) (Any luck in accessing that information) (negative sir it's too damaged) (Funny it was working when we were in there) (Maybe it was the stress of being beamed out Alyssa said. (Maybe) (Welcome back said Alyssa. Thank you I heard you had a lot to do with it" said Lt. Erikson "yes sir' said Alyssa.
Alyssa then focused on trying to find out a way to seal the vortex when she heard the Captain get a hail from Commander Sterner. He said something about two of the Breen are caught, that one was on it's way to the brig and the other was ejected out a photon torpedo tube when his phaser overloaded. "Good thats two less to deal with" thought Alyssa

Ronni finished writing the last touches of the Delphi holodeck program, and loaded it. Suddenly she was on the beach at Qu'hut Takak or Place of the High Mountains and Pink Tak Flowers. There was a small red and white striped pavilion near the tree line and a small building with changing rooms. Spread randomly over the beach were large umbrellas of various colors.
Inside the pavilion were three holo servers watching over the food and drinks. She had a number of Delphinian seafood speciality dishes along with her favorite Klingon dishes. One server was manning the grill where he was prepared to cook up veggie kabobs, fish steaks, and Bolian Blue cow steaks. The smells were fabulous.
Walking outside, the sounds of the waves mixed beautifully with the calls of the flying fish perched in the leaves of the trees. Mount Hu'uett Akatokal puffed soft white steam as it's twin, Mount Mysk'ouka, released it's lava slowly into the ocean, on the opposite side of the island. A soft breeze coming in from the ocean carried strains of Andorian samba music. Ronni lifted her face to the breeze and breathed deeply.
She went into the changing room to check her appearance one last time. She had one of the large Tak flowers behind her left ear with her hair pulled up on that side with a bone comb. Her "bathing suit" top consisted of the 50 strings of small shells usually worn by the warrior women of Delphian lore. The bottom was a red bikini. These were her concessions to modesty. She was waiting for Toy to show up because she had a rather 'big' surprise waiting for him.
She stepped out onto the beach again, ordered a Rum Tiki, and happily waited for her guests to arrive.

Sunder took careful pains not to disturb the lalo grass through which he passed. The five-foot stalks were about a man's width apart, which made it possible to pass through. However, if one blade were touched, the others would reverberate sympathetically through their shared root system causing them all to wildly wave back and forth giving Sunder's Breen quarries a fim idea of his location. He knew they were there. Somewhere - in the rain-mist. Who knew how many? Two? Three? Ten? His eyes twitched a bit, irritatingly. He blinked furiously hoping that the excess tears would clean out any dust he might have in them.
The grass was the best choice for Sunder to hide in while still moving towards the Breen. He threaded his way through the grass, moving as he had been taught to: arms forward and winding showing his body the path. The smells of the rain-jungle brought memories of home back to Sunder's mind and he smiled nostalgiacally. All he was missing were his cesti. The weight of their metallic bracings was an empowering feeling that fully completed the transformation to jungle predator. Feral thoughts lept through his mind, but he dismissed them in favour of his objective.
A figure could be seen through the trees ahead. Sunder crouched deeper into the grass and watched his prey carefully for any signs of deception. Straining his ears, he could barely make out the Breen muttering something. Sunder spaced his breaths so that his immediate surroundings were a bit quieter. He was sweating a bit more than usual, for some unknown reason.
" Federationer? " It said harshly, trying to be heard while still keeping itself as unobserved as possible in this humid alien jungle the Federationer had conjured up. The Breen looked abandoned to Sunder; as if his companion had managed to escape somehow.
Not that it would have done him any good, Sunder smirked at the thought. They were both his prey anyhow and he would have them. He wanted to see what colour Breen blood was. The exhilaration of the hunt permeated his brain, drowning him in a temperate blood-lust.
Sunder kept quiet, listening for any other signs of the missing Breen. After a short while, it was apparent that the other Breen was lost and out of sight. Sunder decided it was worth the risk. His blood raced to his head as he stood up and bolted towards the Breen at a breakneck speed.
" Federationer! No! " The Breen shouted throwing his arms up over his head in a feeble attempt to ward off the charging behemoth running towards him with a murderous expression.
The mammoth security officer charged into the thin Breen, sending him flying into a nearby torana bush, tangling him up in its long branches. Sunder's face took on a feral smile as he approached his helpless prey.
" Where's the other one? " He demanded of the flailing Socorro.
" There's only me. Y- You're imagining things. " He stammered back, trying desperately to free himself of the sticky plant. Its three-inch barbs digging deeper into the EVA suit's fabric with every movement, threatening to rip it, releasing the Breen's contained environment into the surrounding atmosphere.
" You're lying! " Sunder shouted back at the Breen. " I saw two of you - you were talking to each other - laughing at me. Well, at least one of you won't get that chance! " He laughed maniacally.
" Computer! I want a seven-inch Orion kargai, composed of poly-carbon duranium alloy strapped to my right wrist now! " He shouted up to the air. Within seconds Sunder's wrist was dressed with the Orion wrist-claws. He looked downwards at the helpless Breen.
" And now, you'll get yours and we'll see who's laughing! "
At that moment the doors to the holodeck spplit open, disrupting the jungle surroundings...

Captain Price stood on the Bridge and listened to the intercom when Commander Sterner informed him that two of the Breen had been dealt with. One had been killed when jettisoned out of the aft photon torpedo tube with an overloading phaser, and the other one was being brought to the brig.
"Nice work 'mate. I will look forward to reading a full report on the matter. Price out." Lee tapped his comm badge to deactivate it. Now with two Breen safely destined for the Galaxy's brig, and another killed, that left just a single Breen to apprehend. Last reports indicated that Security had managed to corner the agitated Breen on one of the holodecks thanks to Lieutenant K'arta's deployment of personnel about that deck and that Lieutenant Commander Sunder himself was seeing to the alien's capture. That made Captain Price relax a bit, knowing his best people were on top of the situation. It allowed him to turn his concerns to the last pressing matter. The expanding vortex.
"Lieutenant Thomas, the bridge is yours 'mate." Captain Price said while turning to walk towards the turbolift, "I am going down to main Engineering to check on Lieutenant Mercury's progress on finding a way to stop the vortex from expanding."
Chris turned and rose up out of the Operations station to head for the Command chair. "Aye Captain." he acknowledged as another officer quickly moved to take up the Operations station.
*****
Entering the main Engineering section of the Galaxy Captain Price paused for a moment and took in the activity. David seemed to have two full crews in the busy power center of the ship. Half of which were manning the various engineering systems and the other half were all gathered around the control room off of the main warp core reactor. Lee made his way over to the cluster of people.
"But that won't work Johnson." Lieutenant Mercury explained to one of his engineers, "We saw what happens to the vortex any time conventional energy comes in contact with it. The Jem'Hadar phasers are what caused the vortex to expand. Until we know for certain that our weapons are not going to have the same effect, we can't risk using them."
Captain Price was able to work his way near to the central situation control console in the center of the room where everyone was gathered around. Glancing at Lieutenant Mercury, Lee asked, "Any luck here 'mate?"
David shook his head. "We are working on it Captain. But so far, no ideas on how to stop the vortex from growing."
"How quickly is it expanding since the Jem'Hadar shot their weapons into the vortex Lieutenant?" Lee asked.
"We have been keeping a close eye on it Captain." David said sliding his tongue to the corner of his mouth and tapping the controls before him to display the chart of the data they'd been collecting. "You can see that the growth is slowing down considerably, but that it is still growing. Our concern is that this vortex might expand in another giant spurt again, increasing another 20 fold, and so on if we can't find a way to stop it." Mercury explained.
Lee nodded, "That seems to follow." He said quietly, mostly thinking to himself with a distant gaze.
"That seems to follow what sir?" David asked.
Snapping out of his thoughts, Captain Price looked back at the Chief Engineer, "When the away team came back on board, both Erikson and Morris said that Lieutenant Hewson had some sort of telepathic experience with an alien being while trapped in the vortex. It seems these aliens were very concerned over this vortex and were trying feverishly to mend the breach."
Lieutenant Mercury and the rest of the engineers listened closely. Lieutenant Samara was the first to speak her mind, "How were they doing that Captain?" she said with the sincere want for knowledge that made the Captain smile.
"I don't know Lieutenant. I just know what Lieutenant Erikson reported. It might be worth wild to see if Mister Hewson is up to answering that question though. Anything that might give us an insight to how this fluidic substance can be stopped should help us to seal the vortex."
Glancing around the group of engineers after the Captain had said his piece, Lieutenant Mercury asked, "Okay people, any more ideas on how we can seal this vortex?"

** Thomas's Quarters **
Lt. Thomas was cleaning his quarters, something that he'd neglected to do for nearly four days. Well he was a bachelor now and didn't have to worry about someone coming into his quarters and seeing how messy they where. Ever since Dev had left, he'd not had to worry about company dropping by his quarters. He missed talking with Dev about things, but there wasn't much he could do at the moment, they were still playing around with some odd vortex.
Maybe when they got the chance he'd see if he could get some time off and go see her at the Kal Daxis spaceport. He'd already been there once before, so a second time would be a walk in the park compared to the first time. Surely after spending this much time onboard the Galaxy and having earned the rank of lt. I have built up some vacation time that I can use.
I'll just have make sure that I ask the captain and then see what happens.
** Bridge USS Galaxy **
"Lieutenant Thomas, the bridge is yours 'mate." Captain Price said
Chris turned and rose up out of the Operations station to head for the Command chair. "Aye Captain." he acknowledged as another officer quickly moved to take up the Operations station.
Chris wasn't sure this had happened, when the captain placed him in charge of the bridge, but he wouldn't let the captain or the crew down. Now the question was what to do while he had command of the bridge. He thought long and hard about what he could do while he was in command of the bridge, but other making sure that the coordination on the bridge remained in tack he couldn't come up with anything interesting to do at the moment.
He wasn't sure the captain would approve of him doing anything much else other than running the bridge to status quo procedures. Which after some internal debate he decided that it would be best if he just went with that as his objective and not to worry about trying to do anything beyond what was called for as he'd not been given orders to do otherwise.
He returned his focus to what he was suppose to be doing and that was making sure that the bridge continued to function without the captain being on the bridge.

"O.K. people does anyone have any suggestions as to how to plug this vortex?" David asked as he paced through Engeering. Backround noise was almost non-existent. It seemed everyone was at a loss as to what to do about the vortex. "Melissa can I talk to you in private for a second." Melissa quickly followed David into the corridor outside Main Engineering.
"Is everything alright David?" she seemed very concerned.
"Yes everything is fine, I just need you to go to Sickbay and talk to AC. If what the Captain said is true about what AC experienced in the anomaly then we may have bigger problems then we thought."
"I don't understand." Melissa didn't follow why they would be in more trouble if AC really did communicate with another lifeform.
"If there is another lifeform on the otherside of this vortex then closing this hole will not be an easy task. They might take offense to what we are doing and we can start something that we really don't want to start. We just really need to find out what AC experienced. Also talk to Greer and Ronni try and figure out if maybe AC was just dreaming or something. Alright?"
"No problem, are you sure you are going to be alright here?" Melissa was still worried about David something seemed wrong. "Ya I will be fine, please keep me informed." David walked back into engineering and he was almost shock at how quiet it was. "You guys are going to tell me that you have no suggestions as what to do. Well, this is how I see it, we have two problems that need to be addressed. First we need to contain this vortex and stop it from expanding. Second we need to find some way to shrink the vortex and seal it when we are done." David believed that the best way to solve a problem was to break it up into smaller problems and solve each one individually.
"Sir, what if we use a subspace bubble to contain the vortex?" Ensign Knight was the first one to offer a solution.
"I don't think so a subspace bub.." David stopped in mid-sentence and everyone could see that he was thinking about something.
"Sir, what is it?" Knight asked after David stopped.
"Not a subspace bubble but a warp bubble would work nicely, the only problem is that how can be generate such a large bubble." his mind was racing.
"What about the Galaxy?" Prescott called from the crowd.
"The Galaxy warp shell can only be extended so far. I am also scared that we might get to close and get sucked back in. Come on people we're close." The tension is Main Engineering was incredible.
"What about positioning a shuttle opposite the Galaxy and having the both warp shells overlap?" Samara added.
"A shuttle can't produce enough but... if we position more then one shuttle around the outside of the vortex we might just have enough." The backround noise started to pick up everyone was having side conversations discussing what David was suggesting.
"Sir, I don't think we have enough we just lost a shuttle in the vortex and we were already low to begin with." Ensign Prescott reminded the Lieutenant.
"Damnit, there has to be another way to generate warp shell without shuttles." David started to get frustrated.
"David, what about a satelite?" Samara said slowly.
"I am listening?"
"If we can design a relay system around the vortex with the use of satelites we might be able to use the initial warp field from the Galaxy to power up the surrounding satelites and generate an enormous field. If we configure these satelites correctly I think it just might work."
"We would have to modulate them or else they would overload from the power being forced into them from the Galaxy. But I you have it, it just might work. Samara take whoever you need and get started we still need to figure out a way to seal it once it is contained."
"Anti-Matter!" somebody yelled from the crowd of engineers.
"What? Did someone just say anti-matter?" David was a little confused.
"Sorry sir, what about anti-matter. If we can somehow be able to dispense anti-matter in a ring around the vortex it might just force the vortex to shrink and then one blast of anti-matter once the vortex is small enough might seal it." Ensign Knight suggested.
"What if we set mines but fill them with anti-matter and not explosives will that do that trick?" David said after listen closely to Knight.
"We can use the same idea with a torpedo, if we fill it with anti-matter and launch once the vortex is small enough it should seal it." Knight added.
"O.K. everyone we have a plan now lets implement it." David dismissed everyone and tapped his comm badge. "Mercury to the Bridge"
"Go ahead Lieutenant" Captain Lee responded.
"Sir, I believe we have a plan!" David confidently stated.

The soft, almost subliminal thrumming of the giant starship's engines chipped away at the young Lieutenant junior grade's wakefulness. It was thirty minutes to the end of his shift, and he was terribly tired. He rolled the tablets around in his palm, considering the sleep they could provide him with.
Doctor Gakor, his friend Endris, had prescribed them late the night before. She had recognized the symptoms of sleep-deprivation, his haggardness and irritability even with his closest friends on the ship. She had acted casual about the medication at the time, but he knew how unusual it was for a Starfleet doctor to prescribe drugs for something as insignificant as his inability to rest. That worried him, that she was so concerned for his health that she would give him drugs to help him.
He had intended to use the two pink pills right after their meeting. He knew that he had been in less-than-top condition for the past few weeks, and hoped to finally get some real rest so he could return to duty in proper fitness. But when he arrived at his quarters, he discovered that just having the pills in his hand made him feel better. Matthew finally felt assured he COULD get some sleep. And knowing that, he couldn't just sack-out and forget the important work still to be done on the Galaxy. Four crew members were missing, the Breen 'guests' were loose on the ship with phasers, and a Jem'Hadar warship had just fired at them. While all those crises boiled around the ship, so did the fluidic anamoly in which they had become trapped.
The security officer then stuck the pills into his pocket, and returned for an extra shift. He had felt revitalized and secure with the tablets in his possession.
So he sat on the edge of the main security console, staring into his palm. Feelings of satisfaction washed over him, the Breen were in custody, the ship was out of the fluidic vortex, the Jem'Hadar were long gone, and most importantly, three of the missing crew members were back aboard, safe and sound. Matthew was certain his night would feature some of the best sleep he had ever known.
Gary put the last PADD down on Lieutenant K'Arta's desk and stretched his arms above his head. "There ya go, Matthew. A full day's work, and a full day's reports, consigned to history." He smiled and closed his eyes. "I know I'm gonna sleep soundly tonight, how about you?"
Matthew snickered a little, too tired to parry his friend's jibes. He clutched his hand into a fist, grinned, and shut his eyes. With his eyes closed, he heard the doors to security swish open and shut again. Several sets of feet moved across the deck, toward the center of the room. Gary cleared his throat, "Look alive, Matthew." The man's whisper prompted him to open his eyes. He stood up from the console, and attempted to look alert.
Lieutenant K'Arta stood a few feet away, with several other security officers standing around her. She stood at attention, her hands clasped behind her back. "Gentlemen," she began. As hard as he tried, Matthew was unable to focus his attention on his commanding officer. He had already told his mind that it could rest, and it was intent on doing so. He caught a few words, "Close the Vortex," "Fluidic aliens" and "alert." The thrust of her words were clear, however; the security department would remain on alert while they remained in the vicinity of the vortex. It seemed that the rescued away team believed a hostile race populated the universe on the other side of the singularity, and might represent a threat to the Galaxy. The officers around Matthew began signing up for additional duties to prepare for the possible threat, and so, his mouth on autopilot, Matthew volunteered as well.
The Chief of Security took hold of Matthew Albrecht's arm, so as not to let him leave until she had finished her conversations with the others. As the security officers headed off to complete their tasks, she took him aside to her desk. Allowing the door to close, she released him and he was able to give her his full attention.
"Lieutenant," she began in her no-nonsense Klingon manner. "Do you think you are doing the Galaxy any good this way?" Her mouth was slightly open, revealing sharp pointed teeth. She affirmed, perhaps subconsciously, her dominance this way. Her green eyes held his, despite his weariness.
He was too tired to realize how obvious his condition was to the Security Chief. Too soon, he replied, "I don't know what you mean, sir." A moment later, he sensed that was the wrong response.
The Lieutenant stood abruptly. He had to jerk his head up to see her again, and she glared at him. "Lieutenant Albrecht, if you go out on duty in your condition you are putting this ship and her crew in jeopardy. There is no honor in performing your duty poorly, no matter how good your intentions. Lawson and Chen were wide awake when the Breen caught them off-guard! What might have happened had YOU been on duty then?" Her words brought him abruptly awake. The truth in them stung him deeply.
The half-Klingon woman turned away slightly, "Doctor Gakor informed me of your condition, and the prescription she wrote you. Provided you follow her medical recommendations and see that this condition of yours is resolved, this conversation needn't go in your record."
She continued, "Consider yourself confined to quarters for the next eight hours. I don't want to see your face here again for another four after that. Do I make myself clear?" Her tone had softened only slightly from a moment before.
"Absolutely, Lieutenant. And thank you," he replied, his gaze locked upon hers. He actually felt compelled to stare down in shame, but somehow realized that wasn't how an officer communicated with a superior, especially when that superior was a Klingon. His CO nodded with a slight 'mm-hmm,' and he left the room, headed for his quarters and some much-needed shut-eye.

The USS Galaxy hung in space near the swirling vortex surrounding the inter- dimensional rupture. The fluidic matter from that other universe spilled out and around into Federation space, forming a colorful backdrop for the great starship. She floated majestically, her nacelles glowing red and blue with pent energy. Nearly every viewport radiated a bright yellow-white glow, as the people inside lived their vibrant lives.
No light came from the port of one junior-grade lieutenant. Inside, a soft, deep snoring filled the air. His arm hung off the edge of the small mattress, a few inches above the empty tumbler, resting on its side on the floor. The blankets were askew at his feet, right where he shoved them as he climbed onto the bunk. He still wore his uniform. No dreams, bad or good, interrupted his much-needed, medication-induced rest.
--Elsewhere on the ship, his friends and co-workers busily went about their individual lives--
Ronni Morris was happily arranging her impromptu beach party, expecting many participants and a positive salute to a fallen comrade. A slight onshore breeze rustled the leaves of nearby trees, while exotic creatures from her homeworld swam and flew all around and salt flavored the air. The flaps of various colorful tents were whipped about, making a whup-whup sound like sails just before a boat catches the wind. Her thoughts were with Ensign Tholen, and the family and friends she had left behind.
Gary Trabuco was in Holodeck 3, running through Assistant Chief Chanor's Jem'Hadar boarding simulation along with several other security officers. The small group was locked in a desperate firefight with four boarding parties of mindless warriors intent on capturing the bridge. Smoke flooded the passageway from a fire in main engineering, obscuring the view of the approaching enemy. He had already 'died' twice. His thoughts were on the moment at hand, and on survival.
Resting Hawk, Matthew's roommate, was hard at work in science lab two. He was studying the sensor logs of the destruction of the Breen ship, hoping to discover some unnoticed fact about the energy blast that destroyed her. He fantasized about making a crucial discovery that would get him a promotion to lieutenant junior grade.
Kevin and Gilleon, the two teenagers Gary and Matthew had become friends and mentors to, were together in the arboretum. Kevin pushed the soil up around the base of a sapling, while Gilleon (who would be turning fifteen in only a week) took measurements with his student tricorder. Both of the young men smiled and laughed about their school project, their behavior a departure from their former disdain for studies and education.
Ensign Howard ran another diagnostic on the shuttle before him. The polarity of its main deflector array was slightly out of phase, an uncommon and time- consuming malfunction to repair. He ran his fingers over the console's surface, calling up the diagnostic log for careful inspection. He kept thinking of the replacement shuttle they would receive the next time they reached a starbase, and whether it would have a gel-pack-based computer system and the new, upgraded navigational firmware he had heard so much about.
And Matthew Albrecht slept on. Muscles that had been tense for days without a break finally relaxed. Sore eyes recovered, mending themselves behind closed eyelids. His mind, taxed and pushed farther than intended, given an enforced rest. Tomorrow would be a better day.

***** Cat's Office *****
"Here are those results you wanted Cat." Cat took the PADD from Nurse Opel. The PADD had the results from a series of scans on AC's condition. Cat looked them over, his neural levels were normal, his life signs, normal. Cat hoped that Ronni would understand her not turning up. Going to a party to celebrate the safe return of the missing crew while AC was still in Sickbay - Cat just didn't feel comfortable.
As Kirsten walked out Cat's office, from behind her came the sound of PADDs clattering to the floor, then a thud and a yowl coming from with in. Kirsten quickly looked behind her to see Cat rubbing the back of her head and picking up a number of PADDs scattered all over her floor. "Hey, you OK Cat?"
Cat looked up, "Kirsten, I'm fine. Ok! These desks are hard."
"Well, I'll leave you to your fun" Kirsten smiled.
"Thanks a lot!" Cat poked her tongue out as Kirsten continued on her way.
She picked up another PADD, looking at it she saw Ryak's name. It was her medical notes on his current condition. With the missing crew safe back on board, he should've reported to the Sickbay by now. 'That man is a stereotypical science officer, probably forget his head if it wasn't twisted on correctly' Cat thought to herself. "I'm gonna have to call him in, Doctor Khatroweena to Sullax."
The calm female voice of the computer replied [Ensign Sullax is not able to accept any communications. Security Communications Protocols Initiated...]
[Yes Doctor, this is Ensign Sanchez. How can I help you?]
"Ensign, I gather that Sullax is in the brig. I want him to report to Sickbay immediately. A full checkup on his condition is required."
[I can't authorise that.]
"Well who can then?" Cat asked a little annoyed.
[You would have to speak with Commander Sunder about that. But he can't be contacted.]
"Great, would you have him contact me at his convenience. Thank you. Cat Out" as Cat abruptly broke the connection.
Still crouching on the floor she continued collecting the errant PADDs, piling them back up on to her desk.
Medical Technician, Jenna McKenzie moved in, "Cat we have a problem! I don't know how it happened, but when I calibrated the Tissue Resonance Scanner last week... Any scans done lately are suspect."
"Well I've only used it once in the last few days, for Commander Sunder's physical. What's the error range?" inquired Cat.
"I know. Your test is the only one logged. Out by point oh three five seven by two point seven seven megahertz" replied Jenna.
Cat grimaced and sighed, she looked up at Jenna. "I suppose it's not too bad. We still have the raw data from the scans, make allowances for the wrong calibration and see what the computer comes up with. You start on it, I'll pull up the raw source."
"I'll get on it."
***** Ten minutes later *****
"Uh, Oh - It's always the way!" Cat exclaimed.
"What is it?" asked Jenna.
"Take a look at the cerebrum scans. I didn't expect to find anything. The universe always goes out to make a liar out of you. Ninety three percent chance of Rision's Delirium Disease. We have to get to Ursa as soon as we can."
"What's the problem? I saw him when he came and saw you. He looked fine" remarked Jenna.
"It's a rare condition, only found in the jungles of Orion, primarily those who go hunting catch it. It's a retrovirus that lays dormant within the cerebrum. Hard exertion in a high temperature/humidity atmosphere and anger or fear can start the virus going. Rise of body temperature and a flood of andrenaline is a perfect growth environment. It causes the neural system in the cerebrum to fire erratically. Hallucinations, distorted perceptions, impaired decision-making capability and then there are the physical symptoms. But while he is on the ship he should be fine. We should start treatment straight away." Cat tapped her badge, "Dr Khatroweena... Oh damn, he is incommunicado."
"Computer, what is the location of Commander Sunder?"
[Commander Sunder is in Holodeck One.]
Cat looked at Jenna, "Oh I don't believe this, he is off having fun in the holodeck. This is a little more important."
"He is a hunting nut, isn't he?" inquired Jenna.
"Yes, he likes to hunt" Cat responded a little absently. "Computer, what is the holoprogram currently running in Holodeck One?"
[Sunder-Hunt One]
A worried look appeared on Cat's face, "The fates could not be that harsh to us. Computer, what is Sunder-Hunt One?
[Personal holoprogram for Lieutenant Commander Sunder. Description: Ritual Hunt Program.]
"What have I done to deserve this? If he is hunting, it could be perfect for the virus... Oh shit." Cat rushed out of Sickbay.
Running out, she saw the huge frame of Ensign Rios, the Klingon Security Officer. "Ensign, good. I need your help. Call in some security for Holodeck One. We will meet them there."
"What is it Doctor?" asked Kornan
"Later!"
***** Couple Minutes Later, Holodeck One *****
Cat and Kornan rushed to the Holodeck. Meeting them there was Matthew and Neg'Puj. "What is going on here Cat?" asked Matthew.
"I hope I am wrong, there is a chance that Commander Sunder could have a disease that impairs his thinking. Possibly hallucinating. I just hope I am wrong."
"Commander Sunder is currently trying to subdue a Breen in Holodeck One" Matthew informed her.
Cat opened up the holodeck, to the scene of Ursa with a wicked looking claws about to plunge into a Breen caught up in vines.
Cat called out, "Ursa NO!"
Matthew more even minded called out, "Computer, End Program. Commander, move away from the Breen."
The sudden change in the surroundings and the loss of the claws momentarily confused Ursa. The Breen free from the vines moved back, scrambling from Sunder.
Matthew repeated his command, "Commander! Move away from the Breen."
"Ursa, how do you feel? It's Cat! I need to talk to you."
The hunt-lust in his eyes returned and he turned to the party, a feral smile appeared.
"I believe that you may be correct. The commander is not thinking properly" Kornan commented and took a fighting stance. Ursa seeing this as a challenge and took it and rushed for him.
"I don't need this!" Cat called out as the two 'titans' began their clash.

Cat ran out of the Sickbay.
"Ensign, good. I need your help. Call in some security for Holodeck One. We will meet them there."
"Aye ma'am"
I started to follow her down to holodeck 1. I taped my com badge
"Kornan to Security I want some people in Holo 1."
["Security here. Understood"]
As we got to Holodeck 1 Matthew and Neg'Puj were seen.

I could see the blood lust in his eyes. He turned and faced us and smiled a smile that was normal of a klingon out of control.
I spoke up
"I believe that you may be correct. The commander is not thinking properly."
Ursa seeing this as a challenge and took it and rushed for him.
I dodged and avoided the attempted attack and stood in a tradition fighting stance waiting for the next move, I spoke up.
"Commander I do not wish to hurt you. But I will if it for the good of this ship!"

*** Personal Quarters, Alpha Shift ***
Endris was tired of trying to find a cure for Ensign Dana's dangerously high phermone levels. The return of the away team had also rattled her nerves, since they all required medical care when they arrived. Doctor Tash was pleased that Gakor had thought ahead, preparing bio beds calibrated to their individual needs.
But now was a time to Celebrate. Ronni had invited the crew to join her for a "beach party". And the polite summons had contained a Tellarite's favorite word: "Food"!
Endris peeked in the replicator, seeing a container of Bajoran Hasperad take shape. Tellarite stuffed truffles were also on today's surprise menu, and a few other delicacies added for good measure. The Delphinian mentioned swim attire was optional, so Gakor also asked the replicator to produce a traditional Tellarite 'mud bath' suit.
She would have to hurry. The party was scheduled to begin at 1400. Thinking playfully, the Immunologist replicated a large colorful beach ball. Children were especially welcome according to the invite, and Gakor wanted to make the event pleasant for them.
Before she knew it, the treats were loaded on a tray, and the Doctor was heading towards the party. Lt. Albrecht's progress was nagging her, however. Checking the computer, she was glad to see her friend was finally in his quarters getting some much needed rest.
*** Holodeck ***
The portals opened, revealing a breath taking vista of mountains and an awe-inspiring beach. Several children darted about, calling "Gakes, Gakes, rhymes with Cakes" with requests to throw them the ball. It was surprising how fast her new nickname had spread, even if few adults had started using it. Of course, the Tellarite's distinctive snout made it simple for the children to remember her.
This was going to be fun. Gakor was one of the first to arrive, but growing mounds of food were being organized on long, thin tables. The Doctor's stomach growled eagerly at the Oinkus spread before her like a midnight summer's dream....

"No time for title - too many assignments"
Walking into her quarters, K'Eytyanna knelt down and rubbed D'Akana's snout,
"You sure seem happy today.." Standing, she headed to the couch as she spoke,
"Computer, are there any messages?"
[One message from Lt Ronni Morris..]
Her curiosity perking up, she spoke,
"Read and play message.."
[Message as follows -
Message end.]
"Hmm... computer, send a message to Lt MacKenzie..
Hunter, I guess it isn't the Terran way, but Klingons don't have any compunctions about who asks who out to dates... do you want to go to the part that Ronni is running? D'Akana will be coming also. End message and send."
Lt K'Eytyanna Samara, USS Galaxy - Engineer/Shuttle Pilot
By: ktarian@juno.com (Civilian Xala)
Many members of the crew mingled along the beach under the pavilion in the holodeck. The food was eclectic and wonderful. Lieutenant Gakor ate from a stick of Bolian meat whiling talking with Counselor Zrama. Most of the ship's children ran along the confronting sandy beach playing a game of tag. Casey Miran and Door stood with little Lara listening to the smooth Andorian tunes. Lieutenant Ronni Morris' party was a success.
K'Eytyanna and Hunter MacKenzie stood on the beach as the waves pressed against their feet. They gazed at the beautiful mountains in the distance, when suddenly they noticed something flying down toward the beach in the sky. Lieutenant Samara passed it off as a holographic Delphinian creature in flight. As the object came closer they realized it was not a bird, but a humanoid person attached to a metallic silver parachute.
The person swooped down toward the beach. Everyone along the shore distracted from their conversations, eating and games to look up in amazement. The children pointed and giggled. Nobody knew that Ronni had an air show planned. As the person came and closer and closer they could see it was a naked Ktarian woman attached to the parachute, or so it appeared. Her long hair flailed in the wind.
The woman in flight landed swiftly on her feet and released the parachute with the click of a button. The metallic chute swept back in the wind and drifted into the water. The woman making the grand entrance was Xala, the new Ten Forward Lounge hostess, and she was not entirely nude. She wore a Risian bathing suit that consisted of three triangular silver pieces that seemed to be made out of the same material as the parachute. Two of the small pieces covered her breasts, but they were not connected. It was a mystery how the material stuck to her body. A few people clapped at the Ktarian woman and her stunt once she landed. Xala smiled brightly and took a slight bow.
"Greetings to everyone!" she yelled aloud with a bombastic tone, "I am Xala and it is a pleasure to meet you all. I'm fairly new aboard your vessel and I hope to get to know you very soon! In the meantime, let's party!" she enthused.
Hunter looked in awe at the woman. "Who is that?" he whispered quietly to his date standing next to him.
"That's the new lounge hostess in ten forward. This is the first time I've seen her in person. I heard she used to be in the Orion Syndicate," K'Eytyanna said with an underling distaste in her voice.
"The Orion Syndicate?" Hunter questioned suspiciously.
The group of people standing on the beach were amazed with Xala's personality and care free style. Many were amazed at her attire. Some people gossiped and speculated about the Ktarian's background. Nobody was completely sure of who this women really was, not even Xala herself. Lieutenant Morris rushed to the edge of the water to be the first person to greet the newcomer. Afterall, this was her party and she was the hostess here.
"Greetings Lieutenant Morris!" Xala said to Ronni. "I am so sorry to barge in on your party, especially like this. I assumed you just forgot to invite me!"
"Well, everyone is welcome!" Lieutenant Morris said merrily.
"Great! It is nice to finally meet you! Here, I brought a glass of Delphinian lava wine for the party. I made sure to keep it at the correct temperature."
"I did not know that lava wine was in the replicator menu," Ronni wondered.
"Lieutenant, this is the real thing!" Xala replied.
"Wonderful," the Delphinian woman said, "I hope you enjoy the party. We have food up in that pavilion if you are a hungry and there are dressing rooms on the other side if you want to change into something more comfortable. There is a clothing replicator in the one on the right with some cute sundress patterns."
"No thank you, this is very comfortable!"
"Okay, see you later," Ronni said moving away.
Door and Casey moved down toward the beach to get a closer look at what was going on. The bartender was shocked to see Xala making such an entrance, especially since she promised him she would work his shift in the lounge.
"Excuse me," he said to Lieutenant Miran.
The partly Cardassian male approached Xala.
"Hello Door! Great party, eh?" she asked coyly.
"Xala, I'm rather disappointed. I thought you were going to watch the bar for me this evening. The entire crew is not at this party! Some are just getting off duty and are going to an empty lounge for a snack or something to drink. Electra is not going to be pleased with me," he said with a little anger in his voice.
"That's not my problem. Is it?" she said with a smirk.
Door sighed and said, "I do not believe you! First you tell me you'll work my shift then you crash this party in a parachute wearing next to nothing and you don't even care about the consequences that I'll face because of your lack of good judgement. I know you've only been a working Federation citizen for a short time, but there are responsibilities you must keep!"
"Door," Xala began with a very understanding quality in her voice, "I told Electra and she gave both of us permission to come to the party. She told me to tell you not to worry about it. She even gave me a bottle of Delphinian lava wine from the lounge stock and wanted me to wish everyone their best."
The Ktarian female laughed.
Door paused before he continued. He felt bad at the fact he just yelled at Xala and she barely did anything wrong. It was very unlike Door to let his emotions take such control like that. He attributed it to the fact that he is a very professional man and he has never missed work since he's come aboard the Galaxy.
"I am sorry I blew up at you. I just..."
"Don't mention it," Xala said with an inviting smile. "Want to go for a swim?"

Ursa had already attempted to attack me, it was easy to just dodge out of the way. I stood in my fighting stance waiting for Ursa to make the next move. He did I heard a click and looked at him, he had pulled out an Orinon Kargii knife. I kept my eyes focused on his, he moved closer to me taking a couple of swipes. Ursa quickly moved back and steped into a fighting stance. I knew any man with fighting knowledge was dangerous when in this state of mind, I looked a Mathew.
"Mathew go get my dagger! it is in my quarters."
Mathew nodded and ran. I looked back to Ursa, he came in to attack. from the point of view of the spectators it was like an old bruce lee movie punch block kick block no one had a clear advantage, Ursa tried with the knife again getting me lightly accross the chest. I moved back into the fighting stance, Ursa had a grin on his face. He moved in yet again, this time I dodged and struck him on the back of the head. he fell to the ground but quickly got up again. At that point mathew entered carring my dagger.
"Here!" He shouted out as he though it over to me.
I grabbed it and moved into the fighting stance, ursa attacked again I used the dagger to keep hold of his weapon as I forced him back to the wall, he kicked me back and lunged at me. It was interesting to see that this man a skilled warrior and fighter of many styles was fighting in this way. Thats when he regained his balance, he moved into the classic orion fighting stance. I pulled the dagger over my head when I saw Mathew had a phaser on him. I looked at him and he knew, as Ursa lunged at me I moved around him and nodded. Mathew through the phaser. On it's way down I caught it, Ursa waas already heading towards me. I checked the setting and brought it up to fire, Ursa was almost on top of me! I fired! the phaser blast hit him in the chest he stumbled and feel in my arms.
"Doctor if your going to do something I suggest you do it now!"
Cat nodded and ran over to Ursa. Cat pulled out a hypo and pressed it against his neck.
["Ok get Ursa to sickbay. Ensign I want you in there too!"]
I looked at her and nodded, I followed the Doctor to sickbay.

One night in USS Galaxy, after a hard day of thinking how to send the Traumatic Depression Test 1 (He failed sending it), Dr. Krovajek slept in his bunker very soundly.
In his sleep he dreamt being in Hawaii, for vacations with some girls. Suddenly the night got dark and darker, and the girls around Dr. Krovajek dissapear.
Then there came a strange man with a long cane. He wore white hat made from feathers. He had some white paints on his face.
"My son... you are cursed by the Voodo. You will dead soon!" Said the Voodo magician.
"God," Dr. Krovajek was surprised.
"Unless you distribute this Voodo Totem to some people to replace the curse on you," Magician said.
"But...," Krovajek has not finished his words, suddenly the Voodo Magician dissapeared, and he found himself lying in his bunker.
"It's only a dream," though Krovajek.
But, he was surprised again when found the VODDO TOTEM in his hands...!!!

Jurelle got up and went to the doorway of her office as she heard voices talking loudly. She looked cautiously out the door and watched Nilani's animated discussion with Cat, something about an orb vision. Cat was patient with the distressed Bajoran and seemed to calm her down somewhat. Seeing the bajoran about to storm out again, Jurelle caught her attention and bekoned her over.
"Nilani, please, take a seat"
Jurelle pointed to a seat by her desk and waited for Nilani to sit. The Bajoran looked at the seat, then at Jurelle, and decided it would be a good idea to comply.
"Now, Nilani, I know you have been having some problems at the moment, and up until now it has not effected your work and it has not been my buisness to say anything, but I'm sorry, it is not acceptable for you to come into sickbay like you just have, it is both disturbing to the patients, and unsettling to all to see a doctor behaving in this way. You are a good doctor, but I also would like to think that you are a friend, if you need anyone to talk to, I am here for you. But please Nilani, If you cannot control yourself you need to take a break, I'm sure I can do without you for a few days."
Jurelle smiled, hoping Nilani wouldn't take this as being relieved of duty. Nilani looked at her feet, then up at Jurelle miserably.
"Now tell me Nilani, what's going on, what is the matter with you just now? I have seen you cope with much more than a Cardassian bartender."
Jurelle looked kindly at the young bajoran. I stood up and moved to the front of my desk.
Nilani looked at me and a tear ran down her face, she looked and then spoke.
"I recived a message about 4 weeks ago from cardassia. In the message it said that not all my familly was dead, the message continued to read that she was still under the control of a cardassian gul. Since then I have recieved other messages saying that If I don't co-operate they will kill her."
She looked up at me with tears running down her face.
"Sorry I can't do this."
She got up and ran out the door.

I ran down the corridor and headed to Ten Forward upon entering I looked for Door, I saw him and ran over to him.
"I am sorry I judged you for what you look like, and not for who you are."
I turned and ran back down the corridor still very upset. I entered Deck 12 and moved to where a small viewing platform was. I sat down and started to cry.

the computer responded "Nilani is on deck 12 sectio 2 forward viewing platform"
I put everything down and moved out the door.
