USS Galaxy Sim Log Stardate: 50008.13

"Struggling"
USS GALAXY
Lt. JG Navarre Shinta, Counselor
Commander Deiran Casey

Shinta went to see the Commander. She felt a bit scared about that, the man was not known for his easy nature. She found him easily, sitting alone and contemplating the recent events in his life.

She sat down next to him and didn't say anything for awhile. Then she started talking. "Commander, we have met before, you know Karyn couldn't come, she is doing too much right now, she is counseling your wife, she is not strong enough to take care of you as well. So I am going to do that."

"My wife is dead Lieutenant, that woman is not the woman I was married too and I do not know if she wants to even know me. She looks like Miran, but my Miran would have ran into my arms and showered me with kisses," he replied.

"Sir, while we talk informally can I call you by your given name? And please call me Shinta," she asked.

"If no one else is around you may call me Deiran," the Commander replied. He was very serious, very closed and elusive.

"I know this is hard for you, and I don't expect you to open up straight away. I was thinking that maybe today we could talk about me, or rather you could ask me questions. You see I knew your wife's brother on Bajor. I grew up during the occupation, and I have seen most of the horrors and lived through them," She swallowed, this was not easy for her either, she didn't like to think back to those years. "Maybe it can help you understand what she is going through right now."

"Yes, maybe," he replied, still hiding behind his mask and rank as Deiran always did. "This isn't hard for me Shinta, this is hell. Everyone is concerned about Michala and Miran, and so am I. Truth be known I love both women, which is confusing the hell out of me. But, I'm the one who has to be strong, has to do what's best for the kids, take responsibility for everyone. Through all of that I have to deal with the pain of all of this. It's way past 'hard' for me," Deiran replied.

She touched his shoulder lightly. Karyn had warned her not to expect him to talk to her at all, so she was not disappointed. It was clearly hard for him, but he was talking, even showing emotion. "Deiran, nobody is saying that you cannot show fear, nobody is saying that you have to face this alone. You have friends willing to be there for you, I am willing to be there for you. I could talk to your children, I could even take care of them for a couple of days, my son would love to have some mates for awhile."

"And showing emotion is not always wrong. It might be wrong as a commander I can see that," She smiled. "But it is not wrong in a father, husband, or friend. Your wife is not dead. She lost her memory, she can't remember you now. That does not mean that memory will not come back. Until that time she needs you, she needs a love and compassion and she needs understanding. It is hard for me to talk about my past. I did things I am not proud of, but to help you I'll talk about it. Will you try to trust me?"

"I'm sorry counselor, I don't trust anyone really," Deiran replied. It wasn' t really true. He trusted Michala, Alexa, Karyn, his mother, a few of the senior officers on the Galaxy, Lucas to some degree. But Deiran was known as a difficult patient. This woman would earn his trust.

"I do not think Miran can ever love me again," he said point blank. "I will not abandon her, but I do not think she can love me now," Casey said.

"Don't feel sorry for yourself," Shinta burst out. "She needs you now. She can't help it that she doesn't recognize you. But you have to be there for her, love her and then she will love you again. Please use me as a sounding board, know as much as you can about what she went through, please you owe that to yourself, to her and to your children."

Deiran was silent, he didn't know what to say. He did not believe the counselor. Miran would not know him, or love him. She was gone.

"Do you want me to talk to the children?" Shinta asked.

"Lara won't understand, I don't want her dealing with the fact her mother doesn't know her. So until Miran has her memory back I will not allow her to see the children. The twins don't really know what's going on or anything so they can't really talk about it. They are only 7 months old," Deiran replied.

Shinta shook her head. "You are not really listening to me, Deiran," She took his hands in hers and forced him to look at her. "You cannot go about this as a mission, as being a commander. I know your reputation as being stubborn and just a touch arrogant," she smiled. "All in this case that is not going to work. Your wife is going to need lots of love, she has to learn again how to love and how to trust. You can help her by being there and showing love, compassion, and a lot of patience. And in the meantime you can learn from me now or are you going to set that stubbornness aside? Are you going to allow me to help? I am not asking for trust I know that builds very slowly, I am just asking for a chance." She let go of his hands and then offered her own right hand to him to seal the deal.

"I need time Counselor," was all that Deiran could say.

"Not good enough, Deiran," Shinta said. "Too many people depend on you. We will take it at your own pace, I don't expect you to trust me, I am not going to ask for theirs, but you are going to have to work with me," she still held her hand out to him.

"I don't understand?" he asked, confusion on his face.

"Deiran," Shinta said softly. "You are going to have to deal with all that anger and fear inside. For your sake, for your children's sake you have to work it out to. You are like a powder keg waiting to blow right now. That is not healthy for you as commander or person. We have to work on that."

"Not even Karyn has been able to work with me on that Shinta, good luck," Deiran replied, erecting a wall and mask immediately.

"Now about Lara, I am sure she is pretty confused and scared right now. Children pick-up on their parents moods, it would not surprise me, if the babies where having difficulty right now. Please let me talk to her or even let her stay with my son and me for a couple of days?"

"What about the twins?" Deiran asked, he was retreating inside his emotional center, the evidence was seen on his face.

"If you want I will take the twins as well. I am not a child psychologist and I have never worked with babies that young, but I can give it a try. I am sure I can help Lara," Shinta rubbed his arm again, not allowing him to shut down emotionally. "We will work this all out to you know," Shinta added.

"I think it would be best to let them stay with you for a few days, but not no longer. I need to be with them. Just until after my sister's wedding? I am having to deal with all of this and put on a good face for my sister. I love her, and want her happy, but I'm also dealing with all this crap."

Deiran grew quiet, he could feel that anger was welling up inside him.

"That is alright," Shinta said. "I will pick up the children and we'll take care of them full time for a couple of days, after that they will need you."

"I will always be there for them, I love them," Deiran replied and then added,"I am going to marry Michala Lynn," he said bluntly.

Shinta was silent for a second just too amazed. Then she felt anger, great anger. People had told her that the commander had no feelings, and she had not believed them, still did not believe them for she could see the feelings just below the surface. But he could not do this, this would ruin his wife and would only confuse him and all others involved.

"You cannot," she said. "At least not now. Take a year to think about it." She looked straight into his eyes. "Do that and you send your present wife to insanity."

"My marriage to what used to be Miran was annulled. She is only my wife in spirit and by love. Not legally. When I thought her dead, I let my passionate love for her go. I love Michala, I will always be there for Miran whenever she needs me, help her get better. But, waiting a year is out of the question. That's not going to happen. You are my counselor Shinta, you do not direct my life, please understand this. I will do whatever I please and love whomever I please. Miran can never love me like she used to, I know that. Why stay in a relationship that cannot work anymore?" Deiran asked. "Michala is one-third Miran, so technically I will still be married to Miran, or what is left of her," Deiran added.

"I am not trying to direct your life, Deiran. I am trying to stop you from making a mistake. And there is not just you to consider in all this. Will you think of Miran for a moment, your children?"

"What about me? What about what I need? Everyone is yelping about Miran when I'm the one who's lost her twice! My heart feels like a yo-yo," Deiran lost it. He was getting more mad by the second.

Shinta got to her feet, she knew she should not to direct her anger at a patient. "I think we should stop for today, commander. I will be by and pick up the children a little later and I would like to see you the same time tomorrow, sir. I suggest you take some time to think."

"I have a wedding to attend tomorrow, I will reschedule," Deiran was very upset, it showed in his eyes. He was irrational and hurting and not even a counselor could see it. "I also have a rehearsal party to go to this evening. Good day Counselor," Deiran replied.

And with that Deiran Casey left Shinta's office and left angry, resentful, hurt. It brought everything he was feeling to the surface and felt miserable for feeling it. Nothing he felt or thought or did seemed rational. He knew the one constant was his love for Michala.

"Surprises & Showers"
USS GALAXY
NPC Ensign Alexa Casey (written by Commander Deiran Casey)
Lt. Commander Karyn Dallas, Chief Counselor

The lights to the room flashed on immediately and the cries of "SURPRISE" almost gave Alexa a heart attack and she was young yet. All of her close friends on the Galaxy were there, all women of course.

"Thank you everyone! This is so sweet of you all," Alexa replied, her hand on her chest, still trying to catch her breath.

Karyn moved forward from the crowd and just watched her friend's reaction. She was happy that she could surprise Alexa, for a moment she was worried Deiran would tip her off. Another concern had been they would not be able to get Alexa down to the mess hall because of all the wedding plans. Karyn would have no problem getting Alexa down otherwise but she was glad things didn't turn out to be a massive diplomatic incident with the Betazed government. Despite this high-profile event, Karyn wanted to stay low for a while. She hadn't been home in a very long time and she wasn't sure she was ready to see people she knew from her time at the Academy. She would have to conquer that fear just before the wedding, and thankfully, that was still a couple days away.

Alexa looked around to see who was all here. All of her girlfriends had made it. After all the official functions of the wedding traditions and ceremonies it was good to have something that was Terran in origin and was just her close friends. It was a beautiful Bridal shower and she was truly touched by her friends' thoughtfulness.

"Okay, who planned this?" Alexa smiled, putting her hand on her hip in a playful gesture that said, 'someone better tell me.' Her face shined like a ray of a sun.

"Guilty as charged I'm afraid," replied Karyn. "You didn't think we'd let you get married without some sort of party from us, did you? I have to warn you though, there will be no talk of heads of state or rituals that stand on ceremony, is that clear?" Karyn declared in a mock commanding tone.

"Yes, I agree." Quipped a smiling Emma Marshall. "I want to hear the gossip! And of course anything you can tell us about the honeymoon plans."

Karyn rolled her eyes. "They'll be plenty of time for that I promise. For your dining pleasure, we have pure junk food, none of that prim and proper stuff that is served at a respectable high society party -- -- potato chips, peanuts, chocolate, and my personal favorite, Twinkies." Karyn and the other women looked longingly at the junk food buffet, seemingly torn between their desire to "let their hair down," and their desire to maintain a perfect figure for the upcoming wedding which was guaranteed not to leave any of their figures to the imagination.

Karyn reached for a Twinkie defiantly. "Aw, screw them! Men don't have to starve themselves to maintain a boyish figure, why should we? I say let them eat Twinkies!" Declared Karyn in a queen like manner. There were cheers all around the room and everyone grabbed a plate and started digging in.

Alexa laughed and replied, "I could use this junk food, I'm entitled. I have been working out now for three straight months, sometimes six hours a day. I am entitled to some delectable decadence," Alexa laughed and filled her plate with chocolate covered peanuts, twinkies and a hot fudge sundae. "Screw 'em all!" she declared.

"So where are you going on the honeymoon," Anika Crowe asked.

"We're going to go to Risa for a week, we'll spend a few nights on Betazed and then Lucas has some surprise places he is taking me too," she started talking about the honeymoon plans, all of the places were not in order but she was just randomly telling her friends where they were going.

"I really don't care where we go, as long as I get to have Lucas for three weeks, all alone, that's all I care about," Alexa giggled and blushed a bit as she was thinking of what they'd be doing when they were all alone.

"Do El Aurians and Betazoid males have a good amount of stamina?" Eleyna Mastrom asked. Eleyna was a nurse from Medical who had gotten close to Alexa.

"I will find out and let you know Eleyna," Alexa laughed and laughed. The entire room laughed.

"Be sure to bring slides," retorted Karyn, "that would definitely spice up our staff meetings, huh ladies?" There was laughter around the room. Karyn continued, "Something tells me it won't be long before we hear the pitter patter of little Brandis feet," Said Karyn knowingly.

"Yep, dreaming of kids, Lucas wants a lot. I just want to be happy, we're coming back to the Galaxy so you girls are not losing me. Besides, my brother won't let me serve anywhere else," Alexa laughed.

"For once your brother and I agree on something."

"He does want to just watch over me and likes being with me. Dee and I have always been close. If it were not for Dee, Lucas and I wouldn't be getting married," Alexa added.

The bridal shower continued. 24th century games, opening of presents, lots of laughing and friendly camaraderie. Alexa was having a beautiful time, just being herself. She enjoyed spending time with those who meant more to her than anything. She had Michala there, Karyn, Anika, Eleyna and even Electra was there. Alexa was happiest when she was with good people.

Karyn gave Alexa a beautiful cream silk nightgown with matching robe as a wedding present. Karyn was pleased that Alexa liked it as she spent two hours trying to find just the right gift. It was a happy occasion and a welcome break for her. Still, she had a hard time shaking the weight that she knew was squarely on her shoulders.

Alexa gave Karyn a hug, for she loved the present and knew that Lucas would as well. She appreciated all of her presents. It dawned on her after she opened the presents that in two days she'd be saying her wedding vows, naked, in front of 3,000 people. It brought a purple color to her face every time the thought entered her mind.

Now it was time for the rehearsal part which would take place the next evening.

"The interview"
By Ensign Peter Lockhart

Peter stood outside Mike Pailaka quarters immediately after the interview with the helmsman. "He didn't do it." said Richard O'Connell, "I can tell."

"I agree, his alibi will need to be checked up on though, Peter, you get to interview Electra, dad, you and I will see Lt Cmdr Kirk and give him a run down."

Peter nodded and headed off down one way, whilst Tim and his father headed towards the turbolift and deck 38. Peter didn't have all that far to travel before he arrived at Electra's quarters. He pressed the door chime and from inside he heard the voice of Electra call for his entry.

Peter stepped inside and saw the green-skinned Orion woman tidying a few things away. Perhaps she'd expected it to be Mike himself, because she turned and looked surprised.

"Oh. Ensign Lockhart.... err how can I help you?" she asked.

"I just need to ask you a few questions. It's about Lieutenant Pailaka." Peter said. Usually the only time he saw Electra was in Ten Forward, when he was drinking. It was probably a shock for her to see him sober and on duty because she looked a little nervous.

"Please sit down then." Electra said, gesturing at a chair.

"I'm fine Electra. Like I said, just a few questions. Do you know about the murder yet?" Peter asked.

She nodded her head. She knew Mike was going to confess, but thought he'd be going to Counselling, not Security first. Perhaps he was already locked up!

"Then all I need you to do is confirm whether Lieutenant Pailaka was here immediately prior to the murder. From O2:00 to 07:00 or thereabouts." Peter said calmly.

"Immediately prior to the murder?" Electra spat out inadvertently, before she managed to collect herself.

Peter looked at her confused. "Yes. The murder was sometime early this morning." he said, before continuing. "Is there something about the murder of Ensign Maru that you know about?"

"I... No!" Electra nearly spat out. "Mike was here from 02:00 to 07:00. He got a call from Lieutenant' Maxwell and then left for her quarters." Electra said. She realised now that something terrible had happened to Ensign Maru. She also realised she'd almost confessed Mike's own killings to the security officer. She hadn't realised the events where completely seperate. She tried to compose herself before Peter asked her anymore questions.

"That's it then Electra? He was here the entire time and went straight to Ensign Maru's quarters?" Peter asked suspiciously.

Electra nodded, "Yes. That's correct."

Peter sighed slowly. "Thank you then Ma'am. I'll see myself out." he said and headed back towards the door.

"Of course Ensign. No problem."

Peter left her quarters and stood outside for minute. Electra had been scared about something, that was certain, but it all seemed very odd. He'd been convinced Mike hadn't killed Kiley and simply expected Electra to react in a similar manner, confirming what he knew. But that hadn't been the case at all.

"Lockhart to O'Connell." Peter said, tapping his badge as he set off towards the turbolift.

"O'Connell here." Tim replied. "I presume Electra confirms Mike's story?"

"She does.... but...." Peter hesitated for a minute.

"But what Ensign?" Tim chimed back as Peter entered a turbolift on his own.

"But I don't quite believe her. Could be nothing, but she seemed nervous and claimed to know about the murder, but then looked almost surprised when I mentioned that Ensign Maru had been murdered." Peter said bluntly.

"Well, report to Security and let me know exactly what happened." Tim said immediately.

"I'm on my way now." Peter replied, letting the turbolift carry him downwards.

"A Parental Choice"
By Michala Lynn Casey

Michala entered her quarters with Deiran. It was somewhat late as the bridal shower had been a great success. She was finally beginning to feel like she fit in just a little bit. She sat down on the couch and pulled off her boots. Deiran must not be back yet. She thought about her counseling session she had been party too. There was so much to think about, so much at risk.

Michala smiled and went into the children's room and stopped cold. They were not in their beds. Her heart froze as she looked around. Their beds had not been slept in. She quickly contacted Miss Lily. Miss Lily informed her that Deiran had arranged for the children to stay with Counselor Shinta till after the wedding. Michala cut the connection and sank into a chair. How could he do that. For the last three months, she had been mother to the children. She had bathed them, rocked them and read to them.

How could he make such a decision without her? The only answer was that he no longer considered her a parent to them. He had said that he would annul his marriage to Miran as she was no longer mentally competant. She wondered if he had now changed his mind. Michala held a hand to her head, it began to pound terribly. She still had a wedding to get through and a reception. There would be little to no time to discuss this.

Michala decided that she couldn't face Deiran right now if he were to walk in. She threw a few items into travel bag. She left him a note and walked out. She would stay at Alexa's until she could think about this.

Later the note lay on a PADD for Deiran to find.

Deiran,

Since you have taken upon yourself to make decisions as to where the children will spend their time. I can only conclude that my guidance and input is no longer required. I hope you enjoy the peace and quiet you obviously were in need of.

"The Picard maneuver"
by Captain Robert Edward Lee Price

*** Bridge, USS Galaxy ***

So much was going on and had happened on board the Galaxy lately. The ship was presently in orbit of the planet Betazed, along with forty other Federation Starships as part of the UPF's "dog and pony show" for the Royal Betazoid wedding. Not to miss out, Lieutenants Pailaka and Maxwell were taking advantage of the otherwise boring job of keeping the USS Galaxy flying in a big circle around the blue planet Betazed by getting all of the flight control certifications out of the way for the new Helm officers that had just transferred on board.

Ensign Anika Crowe was sitting in the Flight Officer's chair, while Lieutenant' Maxwell and the other students were standing back and watching her verify the orbital course and distance from the planet. Bruce liked the new Ensign pilot, she was a quick learner and quite adept at handling the controls of the Galaxy.

Anika tapped the controls and then glanced up at the main view screen when something caught her eye. The rest of the bridge crew looked up and soon saw the same thing. Ensign Crowe pointed, "That's the Enterprise!"

True to her word, the unmistakable silhouette of the Federation's flag ship swooped ahead of the USS Galaxy as she entered orbit around Betazed, joining the forty ship ensemble Starfleet had arranged and taking her rightful place at the lead of the pack.

Their seemed to be an electricity in the air on the command deck. Silently each crew member looked at the Sovereign class vessel, with it's huge glowing nacelles as she pulled away and felt that she was something special. That's why she was the flag ship of the Federation, and that is why she wore the name 'Enterprise'.

*** T-minus one ***

The transporter beam faded, leaving Captain Price materialized in the circular courtyard outside the Royal palace. The garden was in full bloom, and bright colors from the exotic flora of Betazed decorated ever area that could be seen.

Lee looked about and could see the building he was to head towards. This being the day before the Royal wedding, Admiral Casey had called another last minute meeting of the starship Captains that were attending. Captain Price began walking towards the large marble building and ascended the magnificent steps.

The interior of the hall was as impressive as the exterior. Fine sculptures lined the walls and ceiling and the floor was done in delicately crafted tiles which formed a montage of places on Betazed. Making his way to the meeting chambers, Lee located the one he was instructed to go to.

Entering through two gigantic oak doors that must have been ten meters high, Captain Price saw several Starship Captains standing by waiting. One of them was immediately recognizable, and he was holding a bundle of white roses.

"Ah, Captain Robert E. Lee Price. It's a pleasure to finally get to meet you in person." Picard said with a genuine smile. Turning he handed the bouquet of flowers to the gentleman standing next to him, whom seemed to be rather pale and had gold eyes. "take these Data."

Data mechanically took the roses and then watched as Picard stepped over to Captain Price.

"G'day Captain. The pleasure is mine, I assure you." Lee replied extending his hand. Picard was a distinguished looking man. His head was nearly completely bald, but it seemed to suit the Frenchman. Captain Price noticed that Picard had a firm handshake, which was something he liked in a person. It was a sign of integrity.

Picard shook the General's hand for a moment as the two Captains exchanged their mutual admiration for the other's accomplishments. Touching his left hand to Price's elbow, Picard turned him to face the two gentlemen he was standing with.

"Please, allow me to introduce you to my Senior Officers." Picard stated. With an open hand, he motioned towards the tall, dark hared gentleman. "This is my First Officer, Commander William Riker."

Will smiled warmly. He was clean shaven and generously offered his hand. "Captain Price, It's a pleasure to meet you. It was quite an accomplishment uncovering that plot to assassinate the President."

Lee took Riker's hand and nodded. "No worries. All in a day's work 'mate." Price winked. The gesture seemed to make William smile even wider.

"I hear you fancy yourself a card player Captain. Perhaps I might be fortunate enough to sit in on a game sometime in the next couple of days?" Riker asked.

"I know a little bit about the game Commander," Lee said modestly. He'd in fact already heard that Commander Riker had a reputation as being a card-sharp. "though the one you should really try to beat is Commander Deiran Casey my First Officer."

"Would that be any relation to Alexa Casey, the one marrying the First Prince of Betazed?" Commander Data asked with sincere curiosity.

Captain Price glanced over at the Android, along with William Riker and Captain Picard.

"And this is Lieutenant Commander Data, my Operations Manager." Picard introduced.

Data, who was holding the flowers, simply bowed slightly in Captain Price' direction, rather than shake his hand.

Lee smiled and nodded back. "Yes. As a matter of fact he is Alexa's older brother. And also the son of Admiral Thomas Casey whom we have come here to meet."

Data seemed satisfied with the Captain's answer and turned his head with a slight twitch; as if he was storing the information in his databanks or something. "Interesting."

Lee smiled and then turned to face Captain Picard again. "So Captain, will I be seeing you at the wedding?" The words had barely come out of the General's mouth before he realized how stupid they must have sounded. He simply wanted to know if Picard would be attending the wedding. But being a traditional Betazoid wedding, where all of the attendants would be naked, it didn't sound very smooth the way it had come out.

Picard was a complete gentleman though. He didn't let the comment phase him in the least. "Unfortunately no. I am afraid I have other pressing business to attend to. That is why I am here to present the Royal Family with this gift," he gestured to the flowers that 'Commander Data was holding in his arms, "and explain that Commander Riker will be attending in my place."

Lee nodded, "I see. Well then I am doubly lucky that I had this opportunity to meet you then 'mate."

Picard nodded. "I wish I had more time. There is so much I would like to talk about." The Captain started, but was interrupted by a shout from across the hall.

"Jean-Luc! Yoo-hoo!"

Picard's expression dropped as if he'd just seen a ghost. "Oh no." he stated in a low tone.

Commander Riker stepped closer to Captain Picard. "I'm afraid so sir."

Lee and 'Commander Data glanced back and saw a very large, tall man, completely bald, carrying several suit cases of luggage. Before him was an older woman, who was quite fashionably dressed and was walking hurriedly in their direction. She appeared to be pealing off a pair of delicately laced white gloves as she walked.

"Lwaxana Troi." Picard stated flatly.

"You knew she'd be here." Riker whispered. "At least you aren't staying. How do you think I feel? I'm taking her daughter to the wedding as my date."

"There you are Jean-Luc. I just knew when I was walking up the step that the sexual thoughts I was receiving could only be from one man. . ."

Picard forced a smile, and not all too well either. "Miss Troi."

"Oh please Jean-Luc. It's Lwaxana to you after all we have been through together. You will have to try and behave yourself at the wedding now my sweet. Hands to yourself. . ."

Picard side stepped a bit, using Commander Riker and Lieutenant Commander Data, whom he grabbed the bouquet of flowers from as a sort of interference object, as cover. "Actually I am afraid I will be unable to attend. . ." Picard said while circling, "Commander Riker will be taking my place as the representative for the USS Enterprise. I believe he is going to be taking Counselor Troi as his companion at the wedding."

Lwaxana seemed to be disappointed that she wouldn't get to see Picard naked, but she didn't seem to pursue it after hearing that William would be taking her daughter to the wedding. Picard's maneuver had worked. Now it was Riker who was under the microscope. Both 'Commander Data and Captain Price just watched and observed the exchange with fascination.

"Really? Well, this is a surprise. Finally got around to getting your nerve up to ask Deanna out William? Maybe there is hope for you yet." Lwaxana stated.

Picard had moved to the other side of 'Commander Data and raised a thumb towards the opposite side of the hall. "I'm sorry to interrupt this little reunion, but they are signaling me that it's time to meet with the royal family. If you'll accompany me 'Commander Data, we will be on our way."

Riker immediately started, "Captain I think I should go with you to meet the. . ."

"Don't worry about it number one. I'm sure the Royal family will be seeing more of you at the wedding tomorrow." Picard smiled. "It was nice seeing you again miss Troi. " Jean-Luc nodded and glanced at Price, "Captain."

Lieutenant Commander Data went out of his way to reach out with his hand towards the General. "It was a pleasure meeting you Captain Price."

"Likewise 'Commander. G'day 'mate."

Data's expression grew puzzled, and his head jerked in a slight twitch; as if something didn't compute. "I am not your mate Captain. I am an android."

Picard held the white roses in one arm and grabbed Data with a firm tug with the other one. "Common Data. It's just an Australian expression." He smiled politely.

Data seemed bewildered, as if he were a child, as he and Captain Jean-Luc Picard began to walk away. The android twitched his head again, and faintly he could be heard mumbling, "Australian, scanning. Slang. Good day Mate. Bloke. Shela. Walk about. I understand sir." Data then turned and called back, "Good day Captain Price."

Lee raised a hand and smiled, as did Commander Riker. Lwaxana didn't seem to get it, and being disappointed that Captain Picard would not be attending the wedding, she soon lost interest in the conversation. "Mister Hom, bring my bags to the guest suite." She ordered. Then turning to Riker she stated, "Well, I guess I will be seeing you at the wedding. Be sure to say hello to Deanna for me."

"I'll do that." William nodded. Then let out a sigh of relief as Miss Troi walked away with Mister Hom close behind with all her luggage under his massive arms.

"Interesting woman that Lwaxana Troi." Captain Price commented.

Riker nodded. "Interesting. And many other things. I'm sorry for the interruption Captain. Captain Picard and Miss Troi. . ."

Lee raised his hand, "No explanations required 'mate. Sometimes it's better not to know any more information than necessary."

William smiled. "Fair enough. So about that card game. . ."

"When I get back to the Galaxy, I'll let Commander Casey know about your interest. I'm sure we can work something out 'mate." Lee smiled.

"Great. I'll look forward to hearing from you or Commander Casey then. It was nice meeting you Captain Price." Commander Riker restated.

"Same here." The General nodded with a smile.

*** Gym, USS Galaxy ***

Sweat glistened off of the well cut arms of Lieutenant' Heather Sanchez as she pulled herself up over the chin-up bar and counted out, ". . . ninety six, . . . ninety seven,. . ." Her gray Y-backed tank top was covered in perspiration from her intensive work out regiment that had doubled in intensity ever since the events that had taken place on board the Gothos. With each lift of her fat free, hard body, Sanchez looked out in the distance with pained eyes. The memory of being ripped apart by a massive cannon ball still was embedded deep in her psyche, and none of the physical torture she was subjecting herself to was going to erase it.

". . . ninety eight,. . . ninety nine, . . ."

Heather was trying to come to terms with her own mortality. She had always considered herself to be tough; to be a capable Security officer. Working with a lot of men that were bigger and bulkier than she was, Heather felt she had to do more, go farther to prove herself. It had gotten her promoted and the respect of her peers, but this. . . this she was having a hard time dealing with. For the first time in her career, -- in her life, Heather Sanchez was scared. She could remember seeing the flash from the muzzle of the cannon on the neighboring ship. It was like everything happened in slow motion. The ball hurled across the side of the Gothos and struck her mid body. She could hear the crack of her bones and the explosion of her body and organs as they were torn apart by the kinetic force of the massive iron slug. The pain was worse than anything she could ever imagine. And all of it was real and embedded in her synoptic memory for the rest of her life. Heather had been waking up almost every night in a cold sweat, reliving that horrible, horrible event. Yes, Trelane had reset the slate, and brought everyone back to life, repairing all physical damage. But the memories that were left and the scars they caused were an ever present danger that would shape the rest of everyone's lives.

". . . one hundred." Sanchez declared. Letting go of the bar, she dropped to the floor and wiped an arm across her forehead, to get the perspiration out of her eyes. Her dark Latina skin glistened as she brushed a tuft of her black hair back towards her ponytail. Walking across the gym, her skin tight black leotard showed the definition of her powerful legs. Standing before the heavy bag, Sanchez threw a few jabs and punches, ducking and weaving before finishing off her work out with a spinning heal hook off her back leg. The bag practically doubled over with the impact. Satisfied, a heaving chested, sweat covered Lieutenant' caught her breath a moment while reaching for a white terry-cloth towel that she used to wipe her face. Panting still, Sanchez gathered up her things and started heading towards the shower room. Her heart was still pounding from her extended workout. Her breaths were full and still fairly rapid, and the adrenaline from the last two hours of aggression therapy had left her arms and hands a little shaky. She knew she had to be on duty in two hours, so that would give her plenty of time to shower and calm down before she reported in.

As she walked, she was glad no one was present in the gym or showers. With each heaving breath she'd take in, she'd release it slowly, with a quiet, "be calm." Heather felt like she was loosing her mind. Throughout her life, when she had a problem, she'd work it out on the bag or in the gym. But this time, and this. . . memory; how was she supposed to deal with it? At times it seemed insurmountable.

Tossing her gym bag into the locker. Heather pealed off her perspiration soaked tank-top revealing her athletic, firm breasts and the dangling dog-tag that rested between them. It belonged to Bobby Mitchell, Heather's one time boyfriend. Bobby had chosen to go into the Starfleet Marines while she went into Starfleet Academy. The Dominion war had seen to it that Bobby would never hold her again. She was told it happened quickly, and it had happened early on in the war. Heather grabbed the silver dog-tag from between her breasts and looked at it. She ran her thumb across, and felt the raised letters and numbers that were stamped there. "Bobby, I wish you were here." She mumbled sadly.

With a hopeless sign, Lieutenant' Sanchez let the dog-tag drop back down between her bare breasts and began to roll off her clinging black leotard, kicking it off and into the locker, before closing the door and grabbing her shampoo and walking to the shower room.

The stark white tiles of the shower room looked cold and impersonal, much like Lieutenant Sanchez was feeling that very moment. When she walked she shook her free hand and made a slight fist, noticing that she still had the adrenaline jitters from her work out session. Bending over, she placed her cleaning supplies down and stepped over to the sonic shower spigot to begin cleaning her sweaty body.

Little did Lieutenant' Heather Sanchez know that she had been, and was currently being watched by a deadly and dangerous stalker. . .

"Concerns"
LCDR Tim O'Connell
D/SGT Richard O'Connell

Lt(jg) Heather Sanchez

The footfalls cut through the ship as the detectives walked along to deck 38, this case had started to be a real headscratcher, evidence was not forthcoming, and that was not good.

"That helmsman, Palika, I'm getting a feeling off him."

Tim turned and faced his father, "what do you mean, you don't think he killed ensign Kiley do you?"

"Not unless he's a sociopath, but he's got a feeling about him, like he had to kill."

Tim filed that information away, his dad wouldn't be one to idly toss out stuff like that. He'd have to talk with Mike later.

"I am going to kill this pervert!" an angry voice cut through and they turned to see a very furious Heather Sanchez dragging a male by the scruff of his neck, "I cought this pervert peeking at the woman's shower. I am going to kill him slowly and painfully."

"Woah woah, Heather let me talk to the kid. You can kill him later."

"Fine." She shoves him towards Tim and stands there fuming while the two male O'connell's pull the now terrified 14 year old kid off to one side and begin to question him. Finally Tim gestures Heather to join the group. "Heather, we can let him go now, he sure won't do that again."

"Lieutenant.....I'm sorry." A small voice cut through.

Heather just nodded and the kid ran off, "Tim care to explain what the hell he was doing in the shower?"

"Heather, he's a 14 year old boy, 14 year old boys have urges to see naked women, you are a woman, and you were naked. So he peeped, hell I got busted for it too, of course said naked woman threatening to kick the living shit out of him will be quite the deterrant."

For the first time since she found the shower peeper Heather Sanchez smiled, "could have been worse, imagine if she had've peeped on Gartner....."

"Looking for advice."

Lt. Commander Evin Genestra
Assistant Chief Science Officer

Lt. Commander Karyn Dallas RN
Chief Counselor/Nurse
USS Galaxy

The male lieutenant commander walked in through the doors as soon as the Chief Counselor moved to one side. Whilst it had been almost a year since he last ventured in to the counseling office on the Enterprise, he did not feel too uncomfortable coming here for the first time. Still, he was troubled by the complication in his professional relationship with one of his fellow science officers.

"Thank you for agreeing to see me on such short notice, Counselor." Evin said as he stopped midway in the room. He was not sure how Counselor Dallas handled those who came to see her so he did not presume to sit down before being invited. "It's just that there is a situation coming up which I need some advice on."

Karyn smiled understandingly. It was often the reason why people, when they could get passed their pride or misconceptions on counseling, came to her office. "That's why I am here, 'Commander."

The two lieutenant commanders moved together to the sitting area of Dallas' little piece of Deck Fourteen. Evin stopped for a moment to admire an object d'arte which was proudly displayed near the seat which he was invited to take. It reminded him greatly of something he had once seen in the counselor's office on the Enterprise some time before he left.

Karyn smiled as she watched Evin admire the piece of art. Personally, Karyn didn't enjoy art as much as other people thought she did. As a matter-of-fact when Deanna Troi had given her the piece upon leaving the Enterprise, Karyn joked that it was a gag gift. Karyn did enjoy the arts, but she appreciated those arts that were "active", things like drama and dance.

Evin was probably one of 1000 people to come into her office and admire the piece, just proving Deanna's point that the art was a conversation piece which could help those nervous about coming to her start small talk and eventually open up to the bigger problems. This was just another case in point in which Karyn's beliefs about therapy were confirmed. Therapy was less about what therapists did or said, but it was all about the client's behavior and how the therapist used her observations to best communicate with the client.

"I here congratulations are in order," Karyn said as she noted some of the memos issued over the last week, "your promotion to assistant chief science officer."

Genestra smiled and nodded politely in acknowledgement. Whilst he was pleased to the have been given the position, it was more or less a relief. Since his return with the away team from the Natheni system, this was the first and only indication that Lieutenant Commander Sullax had found the mission satisfactory. "Why thank you. However, I am sure you know, that is not the reason I am here."

"I had suspected as much. For most people, a promotion is something to celebrate, but I would never presume a promotion is beyond causing emotional strain." Her recent conversation with Ethan then came to mind. Dallas remarked, "You know, most people find coming to a counselor a daunting experience. They forget that I am here to help them, not judge them."

"I realise that Counselor." Evin said in an attempt to reassure her that his not opening up had nothing to do with nervousness. It was simply his was of collecting his thoughts and trying to articulate them in a way which did not dramaticise what happened with Rose MacAllen, but also placed importance on the delicate situation. "About two weeks ago I was approached by a young lady, some one in the science department, who was interested in beginning a romantic liason."

"A date." Karyn said with a smile. "Go on." People always had a need to overcomplicate a situation when talking to a counselor, as if it were impossible to fully capture the emotional importance of a situation were they to just use everyday language.

"Unfortunately I am already in a commitment which I cannot simply abandon. I explained that to her, and well, it did not work out too well. Now I am stuck with an upcoming situation which may be affected by that." Evin explained as he looked to the carpet for a moment. "I am not entirely sure how I should handle it."

"I'm not sure I understand, can you tell me exactly what happened, and perhaps you were speaking with?"

It was not unusual for people to react badly to rejection, some people just weren't ready to deal with the fact those they were attracted to, weren't attracted to them. This in and of itself could be difficult, but then if you were expected to work side-by-side with the person that rejected you, it could make for sticky situation. While Evin had every right to refuse the date, sometimes it was the way a person turned someone down that was the problem. Karyn knew just by the fact Evin had come to her, concerned about the situation, this was not just someone trying to cover his own butt in a personnel dispute.

Evin's brow began to furrow as he chose the best place to begin. Whilst the incident occurred a fortnight ago in Stellar Cartography, it may well have been twenty-two years ago on Betazed with his bonding ceremony. The added pressure from his father the day before just made things seem that little more complicated: would he choose to go through with it in accordance with Betazoid tradition or would he embrace the freedom that comes with most Human marriages?

The half-Betazoid scratched the back of his head and then looked directly at Karyn. "Rose MacAllen is the name of the young lady. I am not sure if you are acquainted with her, but she transferred on to the Galaxy about a couple of months ago."

Dallas nodded. She knew the name on the basis that she had spent some time talking to Ensign MacAllen about her past and the incident which seemed to have marred her since the Academy. Whilst she could not betray that confidence to Genestra, it was not unexpected for her, as chief counselor, to know many of the names of U.S.S. Galaxy crewmembers.

"A fortnight ago, after we returned from a survey mission to the Natheni system, I was up late one night in Stellar Cartography. Ensign MacAllen came in," Evin said as he tried to remember the evening in as much detail as possible, "we talked about the survey mission and how I was going with my research. I made a remark about something she was going to ask earlier and so she asked about a date."

As Evin spoke he concentrated on the hidden feelings that Rose had been masterful at keeping away from his empathic awareness. There had been the ocassional feeling of discomfort, but the empath had resigned himself to the possibility that she was new to the ship. Perhaps it was, but now he had to wonder. "I explained to her that I was flattered, or at least I tried to express that, but had to explain to her that I am practically engaged. Before I could do that, she ran from the room practically in tears."

Karyn picked up on Evin's discomfort at admitting he was engaged. It was as if his engagement was a job or responsibility, which he couldn't help. There was definitely no love at the mention of this major life event. While Karyn wouldn't say there was hatred or disgust in his voice, she could detect a slight bit of annoyance with the majority being indifference. Karyn had never observed those emotions from a groom to be but there was a first time for everything. For now Karyn decided to focus on Evin's problems relating to Rose.

Karyn nodded, indicating that she understood. She could see the incident in her head. In Evin's mind, Rose's reaction seemed completely overemotional, and though that was true, it was understandable given her history. It took a long time for rape victims to once again learn to accept themselves as attractive people worthy of affection and respect. They wanted so badly to get past their attack, some assumed the only way to do that was to increase their interactions with men in the hope the increased interaction would become easier the longer they forced themselves through it. For some women recovery didn't happen fast enough. It was as though they set timetables for themselves because they needed to "just get over it." While no one ever gets over a sexual assault, instead of making it an issue they'll continue to deal with everyday, victims think it's a problem that can be solved by putting mind over matter.

Rose had reached out to Evin in the hope he would confirm her desire to be accepted again. When he had turned her down, in her mind it was as though he was saying she wasn't worth anything. For everyone else who hadn't been through it, it was a completely irrational thought. Though Evin had in no way intended to send that message, that was the message Rose received just as clear to her as if he'd spoken the words.

Now came the hard part, how could she explain all this to him without breaching patient-counselor confidentiality. She couldn't lie and pretend she didn't know why Rose had reacted that way, but she couldn't exactly tell the truth either. *Time to walk the line.* thought Karyn to herself. Whenever she told him, she had to be careful it didn't influence the way he treated her professionally, but at the same time, some carefully worded information would help him learn would help him better relate to her and therefore help the department run more smoothly.

Karyn took a breath. "It sounds to me like Rose was just severely embarrassed. You know how it is, you realize you're physically attracted to someone and in order to work yourself up to asking that person out, you convince yourself the person you're attracted to would be crazy to turn you down. When a person is rejected, no matter how politely it's done, it can be an embarrassing reality check for some people. Many people measure their self worth by how they relate to other people, and when someone isn't as interested as they'd hoped, they assume it's because of a personal fault." Karyn added, "Some of us don't have enough experience with positive relationships to be able to get back on the proverbial horse so easily." She smiled, there, she said but she hadn't. Somehow she'd managed to keep her balance on the confidentiality tight rope.

Genestra looked down at the carpet once again. He did not feel shame or any other guilt-related emotion, but felt bad that may have inadvertedly damaged the young science officer's self-esteem. What Karyn was saying made sense, yet he still had to face the reality that he would have to work with Rose as long as they both served on this starship. "What do you recommend?"

"I wouldn't expect someone so thoroughly embarrassed to come to you about it, so you'll have to go to her. Just explain how flattered you were that she asked you out and explain that you didn't mean to hurt her in any way. The best thing you could possibly do is be up front about it, ignoring it just makes things more uncomfortable. Explain how you felt when she asked you, and then feel free to share as much as you're comfortable with regarding the things that make you uncomfortable about this issue. She'll respect you for your honesty and could possibly be willing to explain why she reacted the way she did. The best advice I can give you is to put yourself in Rose's shoes and respond based on what you'd like to hear. Don't be dishonest, but if she sees that you're not patronizing her and that you don't think less of her because of it, it will help to clear the air. Show your reaction was based on your situation and your reservations, not hers."

It was true that he had been unable to express himself completely before MacAllen rushed out of Stellar Cartography in tears. "I believe I understand. Thank you, Counsellor." Evin said as he began to stand up to indicate that he had received the advice he sought after.

"Is there something else on your mind, 'Commander." Karyn said as she referred back to the mental notes that she made about his marriage status.

Evin pondered the offer for a moment. He would have appreciate the oppurtunity to discuss the awkward situation he was in: stuck between the cultures of two amazing cultures and bound by a promise. Glancing over at the object d'arte he returned his field of view to the chief counselor. "Thank you, no. But perhaps another time." he replied, having realised that now was not the correct time to do so.

Karyn nodded. Leaving the comfort of her chair, Karyn gave the assistant chief scientist a reassuring smile before she walked him to the clsed door of her office. "Well if you decide you want to talk, you know where my office is."

The thiry year old man turned back around to Dallas as the two of them stood in the doorway. "I'll be certain to remember that." the empath added before walking out in to the corridor which ran adjacent to the turbolift. "Thank you once again."

"Come Out Wherever You Are…”

Lt. Commander Karyn Dallas RN
Chief Counselor/Nurse

with brief appearances by:

Lt. Commander Tim O'Connell
Security Officer
USS Galaxy

***Corridors, USS Galaxy***

It had only been three short days ago Karyn had been heading down this corridor to the transporter room to meet Rose and Enrique. She had thought her "mandatory vacation" was going to be hell. After all, it wasn't every day you were told to relax not twenty-five miles from where your living nightmare resided. It was unfair to call him a living nightmare as over the years the anger associated with her living nightmare had managed to be toned down into a dull ache. Over the years, John Dallas had simply become a thorn in his daughter's side.

Besides, she wasn't a going to let her father ruin the cherished moments peace that she had waited for, for so long. So when Tim contacted her, her first thought was that he had found Will Smith or at least he was getting a handle on the stalker's whereabouts so that they could catch the guy and put an end to all that tension. It could mean no vacation the Rose in the short term, but whatever she did today to make sure the guy was put away, it would mean vacations free of fear for a lifetime.

Needless to say, the information he had to share would be forever etched in her memory. Lt. Mike Pailaka had found a startling discovery. Ensign Kiley Maru had been found dead in her quarters, initial reports indicated Maru had just come out of the shower when her killer must have surprised her.

Karyn had taken a moment to catch her breath, having felt all the color drain out of her face. She hadn't been sure she had heard correctly. This kind of stuff just didn't happen here. Murders were supposed to occur on holodecks and in drama performances. All this talk about stalkers and rapists had Karyn on edge and now it looked like her worst nightmare had become reality. Was Will trying to get to Rose? Was this how he wanted to start things? Stalkers were professionals when it came to manipulating their victims. If you can't get to the object of your desire, threaten or harm someone that person cares about. But did Rose know Kiley? Maru was a new helm officer and Karyn wasn't sure Rose would have had time to get to know the new arrival. It seemed to Karyn, from the moment the new officers arrived, they had been busy getting settled and learning the Galaxy's daily routine. But truth be told, Karyn didn't know who Rose had met or what she been doing. Karyn didn't know because there had been no time to get to know the new arrivals. Karyn fell a pang of regret.

=/\= "... and I'd like you to arrange a meeting with Lt. Pailaka as soon as possible. He's really shaken up and I think he needs to talk to someone.” Karyn had a feeling she knew what that meant: tell me if he should be considered a suspect. While Karyn knew Tim didn't want to think one of his fellow was capable of such a crime, he couldn't rule out anyone when the investigation was still preliminary. Lessons learned from the McKinnley fiasco had taught them that. Tim added, "at this time we don't consider Mike a suspect the right now we're interviewing everyone who may be able to help us trace her last steps.” =/\=

=/\= "Understood. Dallas out." =/\=

Karyn returned to her quarters to send a message to Mike, asking that he come to see her as soon as security was done interviewing him. So caught up was she in this latest strain of bad news, she had forgotten all about her concerns regarding Will Smith…

***Main Security, USS Galaxy, The Present***

Karyn entered Main Security and nodded curtly the ensign at the front desk. Seeing Tim, Karyn headed in his direction, waiting until she was close enough to him, so that there was enough discretion for what she wanted to talk about.

"Hello Counselor, I take you've talked to Mike?" She nodded. "How's he doing?"

She got right to the point. "Naturally he's still very upset. This was the last thing any of us expected, but under the circumstances, I'd say we’re all still in shock."

Tim nodded. "I still can't believe it myself." He looked down the ground, "you needed to see me?"

Karyn looked up at him, suddenly remembering why she stopped by. “Yes, I wanted to ask you, how is medical coming on the autopsy?"

"It's too early to tell yet. I'm sure they're working on it now, why do you ask?"

Karyn bit her lip. "I was wondering if Maru had been sexually assaulted before she died. It's a long shot, but you and I've been talking about this psycho Will Smith stalking Rose, and it occurred to me he might somehow be involved.”

"You think this Will Smith came aboard the Galaxy and killed Maru? We don't have any evidence to suggest that Smith was here, let alone whether or not he had contact with Maru. It doesn't make sense, why would Will want to kill Maru? I thought he was after Rose?”

“He is, but if Will has been watching Rose like we suspect he has, and he had a chance to see the two women together, he may have seen this as the perfect opportunity to get to her. Stalker Tactic Number One: if I can't get my beloved's attention, go after a friend or a loved one to throw everyone off the trail, but let it send a message that I mean business. I don't know if Rose and Maru had an opportunity to meet, and I'm not even sure that’s important. I do know as soon as a few days ago, we did encounter a psychopath capable of such evil. Profiling is never a sure thing, but I do know criminal arrogance is. It doesn't matter who the victim is, as long as he or she gets the attention he or she wants."

Tim nodded his head thoughtfully. "I see your point, and it's definitely something we'll look into. Thanks for letting me know, I'll be sure and pass on any additional information to you. You can help us get a clear psychological picture of this person.”

"Anything I can do to bring this girl's killer justice, I'll do. In the meantime, I'm worried about Rose. I take it Astrid’s been checking in at regular intervals?”

Tim placed two hands on her shoulders. "Everything's fine, Karyn, we want this person as bad is you do, we're just keep to things as calm as possible. We can't have everybody going hysterical on us this close to the royal wedding."

For the first time that day Karyn laughed. "You're forgetting it's my job to keep people calm everyday." She smiled, "that reminds me, I have to get ready for the rehearsal dinner tonight. I hate to say it, but all this wedding stuff is the last thing I want to think about, given what happened here. But I promise I'll keep things going smoothly as the perfect giddy bridesmaid for such an honorable occasion.” She had taken on the perfect aristocratic voice, taught to her by none other than Lwaxana Troi. She huffed in disgust. “I can't wait till all this prancing is over with, so that we can get back to the business at hand. As soon as I can, I'd like to help Operations and Engineering go through Ensign Kiley's personal logs to see if we can find any clues. Will Smith may not be involved, but after the number of cases I've seen lately, it wouldn't surprise me if Maru had a jealous ex of her own.” “That would be great. But my biggest concern right now is keeping all of this as quiet as possible. No sense alarming anyone, including Rose, until we know for sure what were dealing with. But all be sure to mention Will to Astrid the next time she checks in."

"Damage control, got it."

Suddenly Tim's combadge beeped.

=/\= "Lockhart to O'Connell." =/\= Peter said, tapping his badge as he set off towards the turbolift.

=/\= "O'Connell here." Tim replied. =/\= "I presume Electra confirms Mike's story?" =/\=

=/\= "She does.... but...." =/\= Peter hesitated for a minute.

=/\= "But what Ensign?" =/\= Tim chimed back as Peter entered a turbolift on his own.

=/\= "But I don't quite believe her. Could be nothing, but she seemed nervous and claimed to know about the murder, but then looked almost surprised when I mentioned that Ensign Maru had been murdered." =/\= Peter said bluntly.

=/\= "Well, report to Security and let me know exactly what happened." =/\= Tim said immediately.

=/\= "I'm on my way now." =/\= Peter replied.

*Oh, Grozit! Grozit, Grozit, Grozit!!* thought Karyn to herself. Now they suspected Mike of the murder! But Karyn knew that to be absolutely untrue. Mike had killed in his past, but that had been in self-defense, or at least that's what he had told her. Mike's testimony specifically stated he had found Maru dead upon entering her quarters. Maybe she was too close to the situation, but her gut instinct was telling her Mike had nothing to do with the murder. This same instinct was the same one she used to judge people each and every day, she had to believe what she was feeling was right.

Unfortunately, she could do or say nothing that would put Mike in the clear. Everything he told her had been in confidence, and she couldn't risk breaking that trust. Karyn reminded herself Peter was just expressing suspicions and it was no indication they were going to arrest Mike, or even investigate further any role they think he may have played in Ensign Kiley's death. Besides what was she going to say? ‘ Oh Mike didn't do it, well you see, he's been too busy running from the authorities from his last murders.' *Brilliant, Kar, that would be just perfect. And Karyn couldn't very well tell Mike that security was starting to suspect something because that would be breaching the confidentiality of the investigation. No, if Security wanted to go after Mike, Mike would just have to tell the truth on his own. Karyn would do her job as his therapist and be a sounding board for whatever decisions he would have to make, but her job had never been to advise and dictate, but to listen and guide.

Still she couldn't help but feel as if by her inaction she was enabling a group to suspect an innocent man. If they went so far as to accuse Mike (especially if they find out about what happened ten years ago), could Karyn sit back and let it happen? How far would Mike go to save his little sister any more humiliation? Unfortunately for Mike, Karyn was certain she knew the answer.

"Karyn? Was there something else?" Tim had finished conversation with Peter, but was surprised to see Karyn still sitting there deep in thought.

"Oh no," answered Karyn, clearly startled. "Sorry, I just that distracted for a moment. Please let me know if you need any more help from me.”

"Will do." Answered O'Connell, already turning to accept a PADD from a crewman.

Karyn forced her mind to turn to other matters. She had to see Miran and then she had a rehearsal dinner to attend.

“Sins of the Past, Part II”
By Lieutenant Mikala Pailaka

***Mokupuni Colony, Pacifica, 2366***

The colorfully painted atmospheric skimmer kicked up a rooster tail of foamy water as it glided above the calm surface of Kalahuna Bay. It pulled up as it reached the shoreline, clearing the sandy palm covered hillside and setting down perfectly on the landing pad situated just beyond. The ion pulse engines ceased their steady throb and fell silent as the side bay doors opened and a stairway was lowered. A dozen tourists, mostly members of Federation core worlds, filled out. They were dressed garishly, with loud colorful shirts, wide brimmed straw hats and disposable holo cameras clutched in their hands. They smiled at one another and talked animatedly as a pair of skimpily clad guides directed them to the clubhouse for their complimentary drinks.

Once the crowd was out of site, a final figure emerged from the skimmer. He was tall and well built for his age, looking older than his seventeen years. His skin had been bronzed by years in the sun and his long mop of blond hair fell haphazardly around his shoulders.. Were it not for the matching shorts and polo shirt the tour agency made him wear, he would have looked the part of a castaway or beachcomber. He still had another growth spurt ahead of him, as well as ten more years of physical conditioning, before he would grow and evolve into the man who would someday become the Chief Helmsman for the USS Galaxy.

As Mikala did his post flight walk around of the skimmer, service and duty were the furthest things from his mind. The idea of applying for Star Fleet Academy had not even occurred to him. He had just started attending the local university, following in his mother’s footsteps by studying oceanography. But in spite of his interest in academia, he was just as happy frittering away his time flying tourists around. He loved piloting the skimmer, he seemed to have a natural affinity for it. Better yet, the site seeing flights allowed him to scout out prime surfing and diving real estate.

Mikala finished his inspection and headed towards the clubhouse. He met Joe Gomez, the chief flight mechanic, halfway across the landing strip.

“How’d she do today?” Joe asked.

“Good as usual, brah.” Said Mikala with a big smile. “Might want to check the rear horizontal stabilizer though. Seems a bit sticky.”

“I’ll do that.” Joe said, making a note of it on his data pad. “You heading out to Manu’s for the party tonight?” Joe asked.

“Do I ever miss a party at Manu’s?” Mikala laughed. “Heading there right after work. Gotta go pick up my Sis first and get her home. Her boat should be back in by now.”

“She crewing the Wave Jammer today?” Joe asked.

“Yeah, that’s the one.” Mikala replied. The ‘Jammer was one of four small yachts maintained by the agency for day long tours. They tended to be hired by small groups with lots of latinum to throw around. Lelani was only 13, but she knew her way around boats like she had been living on one all her life. For her, like her brother, it was a summer job.

“Well, then you’re going to have to wait a while.” Said Joe. “The Wave Jammer has not reported back in yet.”

“Probably hit a good fishing spot and slipped Captain Halola some strips so they could stay out longer.” Mikala surmised. “Wouldn’t be the first time.”

So Mikala headed inside and had the grill whip him up something to eat while he waited. He bided his time, chatting with the greeters and the kitchen staff, occasionally glancing up at the clock on the wall. The Wave Jammer was now nearly two hours overdue. Even with the relaxed atmosphere and attitude maintained by the agency, it was becoming a matter of concern.

Mikala, stuffing down the last of his sandwich, headed out of the clubhouse and across the field to the control tower. He took the stairs two at a time as he made his way up to the glass enclosed operations room. His boss, Mr. Lopaka, was leaning over the shoulder of the traffic controller, looking at the sensors and furrowing his brow. Mikala approached and looked at the images himself. The screen clearly marked the locations of each boat and skimmer the agency had on or over the waters, as well as the locations of other sea and air borne traffic. He looked carefully, but could find no graphic for the Wave Jammer.

"Where is she?" Mikala said.

"Oh, hello Mikala." Said Mr. Lopaka. "I expected we'd see you up here soon enough."

"Is the Wave Jammer in trouble?" he asked.

"We're not certain." Lopaka replied. "But I wouldn't worry about it just yet. They may have simply shorted out their transponders and gone off the sensor track."

"All three transponders?" Mikala said, sounding dubious. "Maybe we should call the Coast Guard?"

Lopaka got a sour expression on his face. "Let's leave the Coasties out of this for now." He suggested. "They bill us each time they have to rescue one of our craft., so I'd prefer we call upon them sparingly."

"Then let me take the skimmer out again." Said Mikala. "I'll go see what's wrong."

"I'm fine with that." Lopaka replied. He tapped a button on the communications panel. "Joe, I want Mikala to take the skimmer back out again to look for the Wave Jammer."

[Sorry Mr. Lopaka. Just pulled the cowling off of both engine housings. She ain't going nowhere for a while.]

"How about one of the Tri's?" Said Mikala. "I can sail out and find them."

"Sure, grab the Sea Flitter. She's small but good to go." Said Lopaka.

"So, where am I going?" Mikala asked.

"Oh, I guess that would help." Said Lopaka with a hearty laugh. "Captain Halola was taking a group of four tourists out around Emerald Point for fishing and site seeing. One fleeter and some of his civilian friends. It was a small party, so your sister Lelani and her friend, Anelike are the only crew Halola needed."

"Emerald Point is not that far." Mikala said. "I should be able to get out there and pick them up on the Sea Flitter's short range scanner."

"Just try and be quick about it." Lopaka warned. "We may have some weather moving in."

"You got it, Boss!" Said Mikala with a grin. "Just contact me if they make it back in on their own.

Mikala caught a favorable wind, making the trip out form the Mokupuni Colony to Emerald Point a short one. He arrived on site in under half an hour and began skimming the coast and the outlying shoals, checking the usual spots the agency's boats took their passengers.. He sailed back and forth for another half an hour, sighting plenty of small sailing ships, but not the Wave Jammer. It didn't make sense to him at all. The sea lanes near the shores were hardly empty. If the Wave Jammer was in trouble, someone would have spotted something, but there had been no emergency calls, and the lack of messages from Mr. Lopaka meant he hadn’t heard anything either.

Uncertain of what to do next, Mikala turned to his trump card, Old Kolath. Kolath, a former member of the Klingon Honor Guard, or so he claimed, chose retirement over death in battle as age crept up on him. Now, instead of facing his enemies with a Bat'leth, he confronted them with a fishing pole. His small boat was anchored over the same spot every day without fail and nothing ever escaped the wily old warrior's notice, except the fish themselves.

Mikala brought the Sea Flitter up along side Kolath's boat and hailed him. "How are they biting today?" He asked.

Kolath spat on the deck and rubbed it in with his boot. "These fish are without honor!" He growled. "They steal my bait like common thieves, unwilling to take the hook and face me in battle!"

"Perhaps if you tried a different spot." Mikala suggested. "The locals have been pulling out some ten pounders from the shoals south of the point."

"Bah!" Kolath said with disdain. "I will never retreat like a coward to seek easier prey. I shall remain here until every last fish below has filled my belly!"

Mikala laughed. "Well, good luck, Brah. You go get em." Mikala liked the grumpy old Klingon and wished him well. Some day, if the sea god Kanaloa was willing, he would hook the big one and sing songs about it the rest of his life. "By the way, I'm looking for one of the agency's ships, the Wave Jammer. Have you seen it go by today?"

"I saw it." Kolath replied. "Over three hours ago. It was headed north east, towards the Sand Archipelagoes."

"Huh." Said Mikala, scratching his head. That didn't make much sense. The archipelagoes were little more then a series of uninhabited sandbars. Plenty of wrecks from folks too foolish to avoid them, but no good game fish, no scenery to appreciate. Overall, perhaps the most uninteresting piece of real estate within two hundred miles, and certainly the last place the captain of a tourist boat would ever take his passengers. "OK, thanks, Kolath." Mikala said. "I'm going to go see if I can track them down."

It took Mikala another forty five minutes to sail out to the archipelagoes and by the time he arrived, the sun was beginning to set. He still had not radioed in, determined to find the Wave Jammer without anyone's help.

It did not take him long to pinpoint the ship. He looked through his binoculars and spotted the small yacht anchored fifty meters off shore from one of the larger sand atolls. They had sent out their dingy, which was pulled up on the beach. Someone had started up a campfire. Mike breathed a sigh of relief. It was as he had suspected. The tourists must have decided they wanted to party a little longer and had paid off Captain Halola and the crew. Halola should have radioed the delay in, but like most ship captains, he was stubborn and independent. He'd probably switched off his transponders so that the agency could not order him back and cut into his profits.

Mikala navigated the Sea Flitter towards the Wave Jammer, being careful to avoid the shallows. As he approached, the top deck of the Jammer appeared empty. Everyone was either below deck or on the shore.

"Haloha!" He called out. "Anyone there? Lelani, it's your Bro!"

There was no response for over a minute. Mikala called out again. "Sis? Captain Halola? It's me, Mikala? Howzit? Anyone?" Mikala shrugged his shoulders. "OK, coming aboard!"

This seemed to get a response. A man Mikala did not recognize came up from below decks. He was naked except for a pair of cut off shorts and wore a scowl on his face. "Beat it kid, this is a private party!"

Mikala did not like the sound of that at all and began to grow worried. His pulse began to beat faster. "I need to talk to my Sis, Lelani." He said. "Could you send her up for a minute?"

The man hesitated for a moment and then smiled. "Sure thing, kid. Just a sec." The man disappeared below deck.

Mikala was starting to breathe rapidly in panic. His gut told him something was terribly wrong. His sister and her friend were only thirteen. Their jobs were to get cold drinks and sandwiches, answer questions about local geography and clean the fish the tourists caught. Partying below decks with grown men was not on the list, and was definitely not something Leilani would do willingly. Two minutes passed and no one emerged from below. Mikala steeled himself and then brought the Sea Flitter alongside and climbed on board. His feet had barely touched the deck of the Wave Jammer when the cabin doors burst open and three men emerged. Two of them were dragging young girls behind them. Their heads were covered in cloth sacks and their hands were bound. Both were nude. In the confusion, Mikala could not tell which one was his sister. The third man was brandishing a phaser. The moment he spotted Mikala he opened fire.

Mikala let out a yelp as the deck boards were vaporized next to him. He took a running leap over the side and came crashing down on the deck of the Sea Flitter. He scrambled for the communications panel, only to see it shattered as it took a direct hit from the phaser. Mikala was as terrified as he had ever been in his short life. He crawled on his hands and knees to the opposite side of the boat, trying to put as much hull between himself and the shooter as he could.

The phaser blasts continued sporadically over the next few minutes. He could hear the girls on the Wave Jammer crying in protest and their captors cursing and telling them to be quiet. The engines of the Wave Jammer roared to life.

"Hey kid! You want your sister? Here she is!" Mike heard something hit the water with a large splash. His fear for his sister momentarily overcoming his fear for his own life, Mikala sprang from his cover and ran to the other side of the boat. The Wave Jammer was already pulling away from the scene. Mikala looked at the water and saw the concentric circles expanding from where a body hit the surface.

"Oh no! Lelani!" Mikala pulled at his hair in panic. He began to intentionally hyperventilate, saturating his lungs with oxygen. He then dove over the side.

The water was not deep, no more than twenty feet. But the bottom was sand, and the Wave Jammer's rapid departure had kicked up an impenetrable cloud. He would have to go entirely by feel. He reached the bottom and started feeling around, his eyes squinting against the abrasive grit in the water. He moved slowly and methodically, going out in a spiral from where he thought Lelani had gone in. He had to fight against his panic, making sure he did not loose any of his air. He had to find her the first time.

His outstretched hand contacted cold flesh. Mike saw the body, floating just above the sea floor, her hands still bound with the sack over her head. She wasn't putting up a struggle. "Please! Please no!' he thought has he grabbed her around the waist and started kicking towards the surface. It was tough going, the twenty feet seeming much longer with the added weight over his shoulder.

He broke the surface under the early evening sky ten yards off the bow of his smoldering boat. He pulled his sister along with him, keeping her slumping head above water. Using one hand, he climbed up the ladder to the deck, Lelani over his shoulder. He placed her gently down on the deck, where she lay lifeless. "No! No! No1" He moaned. He knelt down and pulled the sack off of her head…

It was not his sister. It was Leilani's best friend, Anelike, the other girl on the crew. The two looked so similar that many mistook them for sisters. Mike immediately started to administer rescue breathing, trying his best to get the young girl to respond. There was nothing. He switched to CPR, mentally willing, praying for her to cough the water from her lungs and sit up. But it was no use. There was nothing he could do. "No… No." He repeated softly to himself, over and over. He slumped over her body and began to sob uncontrollably. He was all alone. His link to the mainland had been severed. A band of killers were holding his sister and would shoot him on site if he tried to follow them in the damaged Sea Flitter. "What can I do?" He asked himself as the sky began to darken.

"Goddamn bastards!" came a voice from nearby. Mikala froze in place. Someone was approaching, in the Wave Jammer's dingy from the sound of it. There must have been a fourth man on the island… At least a fourth. Could there be more than one? "I'm going to kick Costigan's ass for leaving me out to dry! They better fucking show the hell back up soon!" The voice continued. "Shit, probably going to have to bury another one, like that fat bastard captain wasn't enough!"

Mikala felt the thump of the dingy coming alongside the Sea Flitter. Then the sound of feet climbing the ladder…

***Present Day, Office of Counselor Karyn Dallas***

"And then the fear was gone, just like that." Mikala continued, as Karyn sat riveted in her seat, listening to his tale.

"And what did you feel in its place?" The counselor asked, already knowing the answer. It was written across the Helmsman's face.

"Rage." Mike replied. "Pure rage."

Based on STAR TREK created by Gene Roddenberry
Story by Lieutenant Commander Ethan Suder - Chief Engineer

"This is impressive!" Suder stated as he looked around Engineering. "Very organised!" was the best way he could describe this new place. Glancing around, every Engineer new what he or she was doing. They were doing what they were taught to do.

"Well I'm glad you like it. There's still a lot of work that needs doing. She may have been around for just under two years, but I'm still in the process of several upgrades." Commander La Forge explained as he proudly looked around Engineering himself.

Suder looked at the main computer and slowly walked around to each station, observing the work being done by the Engineers.

"I heard about your little project on the Galaxy. A hologram in Engineering. That's quite an achievment." Geordi stated.

"Well it took a long time to get the program going. I think there may be one or two bugs, but it's looking good at the moment. When I have the completed version, I'll be sure to send you a copy." Ethan said.

"I'd be glad to have it. I've already talked to Captain Picard, he seems to think it would be an interesting addition to the ship. While we're talking about transfers, this is the list you asked for." Geordi said handing over a data padd to Ethan.

"I still don't know why some young kids would want to transfer from this ship, one that I helped design I might add, to a Galaxy class ship." Suder shook his head.

"I have to say you did a pretty good job designing some of this ship. Over the years, when I go through the design logs, I see you have some similar approaches as myself. We could be a good team." La Forge said, still smiling.

"I might have asked for a transfer, but I can't leave at the moment. There are only kids on the Galaxy at the moment. Someone has to teach them the difference between a warp core and a power relay." Ethan joked.

"I was sorry to hear that Kay had left." Geordi said. His smile fading away.

Suder walked away from the last console and looked at the warp core. He seemed to hum and glow in the sort of beauty that said 'this is my moment of fame'. "I've spent most of my time going through her last reports, sorting out the rosters, we just got a load of new transfers, not to mention these kids your sending me." Ethan said waving the data padd at Geordi La Forge. "But I still have the notes that I kept during the time you spent on the other Enterprise. I intend to make some of the same modifications that you made."

"One of the best parts of being the Chief Engineer. You get to take things to pieces and rebuild it to how you want." Geordi joked.

Ethan laughed and moved over to the next station. "I hear you had fun taking all the Borg components out of here. I'd love to see the reports on them."

"I'll have them sent over." Geordi replied.

"Is Data around, I haven't talked to him since..."

"Omega Three one!" they both said together, laughing as the memories brought so many funny images to their minds. They must have laughed for nearly a minute. Ethan hadn't laughed so much in months. He grabbed hold of a console to stop himself from falling over. Geordi grabbed hold of Suder's arm to balance himself. After a minute or so, they gained their normal senses and continued the tour of Engineering on the Enterprise.

"He's down on the planet at the moment. He was looking forward to seeing you, I guess you might see him down there. You going to the wedding, being Betazoid and all?" Geordi asked.

"I don't know. A part of me wants to go, but another part of me keeps thinking back to the last time I went to a Betazoid wedding." Ethan chuckled. "I also don't know if I'm ready to go back. I haven't been there since the Dominion pulled out. Not sure if it would be the same." Suder explained.

"I know it's not quite the same, or maybe it is, I don't know, but when the Breen attacked Earth, that was the first place I wanted to be. Home." La Forge said.

"When the Dominion first took over Betazoid, I requested that I go on one of the teams that were supposed to liberate Betazed. But Starfleet said I was too personally connected to the planet, being Betazoid and all. Just about every Betazoid in Starfleet requested the assignment at that time. Then the teams failed, on all eight missions. After the Dominion was forced to leave, they had already wrecked, tortured and ripped the planet to pieces." Ethan explained. "I'll probably go, I just have mixed thoughts right now."

"Well everyone will be there, so if you need people to be with, we'll look out for you." Geordi said.

"Thanks. I look forward to seeing Data, and Will too, I hear he's back with Deanna." Ethan stated.

Geordi nodded as they moved to the last section of Engineering.

"Should be a good laugh. I'll look for them down on the planet, if not, I'll try and catch them before the fleet leaves orbit. Now how about the rest of the tour?" Ethan asked with a smile.

Geordi waved a hand to the main doors and the walked off to see the rest of the ship. The tour seemed to be going well. Suder hadn't had this much fun since the last time him and the crew of the Enterprise got together. It would be fun to pull up a memory or two with the old guys.

The thirty year old man turned back around to Dallas as the two of them stood in the doorway. "I'll be certain to remember that." the empath added before walking out in to the corridor which ran adjacent to the turbolift.

"A Fraction Too Much Friction - Part II"

Lt. Commander Ethan Suder
Chief Engineer

Lt. Commander Karyn Dallas, RN
Chief Counselor

Lt. Michael McDowell
Engineer

With:
Lt. D'Tarna Bellen, NPC Doctor

Ian McDowell, NPC Professor in Applied Mathematics

Judith McDowell, NPC Ian's wife

*** Sickbay, USS Galaxy ***

Judith and Ian approached the entrance of Sickbay and stopped. They were here now. Finally they would see their son, after so many months of not knowing exactly what his situation was. Sure, Starfleet had kept them up to date and told them as much as they could. They had even talked to the CMO of the USS Galaxy, Dr. Gakor, to hear her side of the story. Judith had insisted on that, even though Ian told her that she probably would tell the same story. But, all in all, being able to see Michael for themselves could never be replaced by mere talking to another person who was light-years away.

Ian looked at Judith. He could see she was nervous and took her hand. "Come, it's time to pay our son a visit." He said with a comforting voice. "I'll be right here with you."

Judith nodded, but slightly. Both entered Sickbay just as Doctor D'Tarna Bellen exited Michael's private room. She saw them as they walked towards the CMO's office.

"Can I help you?" D'Tarna asked as she moved towards the two seniors.

"We're looking for Dr. Gakor" Ian said. "Is she here?"

"I'm sorry. She is not here at the moment." D'Tarna replied "She is on an away mission and will be away for some time. But maybe I can be of help?"

Judith, who first had surveyed the room to see if she could see Michael, now looked at the female Doctor. "Yes. We came to see our son, Michael McDowell. We're his parents. We've spoken earlier to Dr. Gakor about him."

Judith's voice was a bit shaky, something which had not escaped D'Tarna. Aware that she was agitated D'Tarna continued more carefully.

"Then you must be Mrs. and Mr. McDowell." D'Tarna said with the most friendly voice she could muster. Then she made a gesture to the CMO's office. "Maybe it's a good idea if we talked about Michael in a more private environment."

Ian nodded. Judith was getting more nervous by the minute. Hearing the latest news about Michael could take away a major part of that. And if she should break out in tears then at least they would have some privacy. "That would be much appreciated, Doctor."

*** About an hour later ***

"That's all we know at the moment. He's still in coma but his brain has shown more activity every now and then. We don't know exactly if that is caused by the new treatment with the experimental drug, but we like to think so."

D'Tarna looked at the two parents to see what they thought of it. According to her the news she had given was positive, but that could be interpreted differently by the two people sitting across the desk.

Ian responded when he noticed that Judith kept to herself. "Thank you very much Doctor for all the information. It's comforting to know the details of his condition and that he is in good hands."

D'Tarna smiled slightly. "That's why we're here for." she said and then turned her head slightly towards one of the windows near the door. She'd noticed an officer coming into Sickbay. As he walked further she recognized him.

Turning back to Judith D'Tarna continued "Mrs McDowell, you've asked me if you could talk to someone who knows Michael on a more personal level. Well, I just saw the Chief Engineer come in, Lt. Commander Suder."

Judith looked outside the office, following the man with the golden collar. "Is it possible to speak with him now?"

"Yes, I think so. And if I'm right then he's here for Michael also." D'Tarna replied. "If you will follow me, then I will ask the 'Commander if he has some time left."

All three left the office and walked towards the man standing near the doorway to Michael's private room. "'Commander, I'd like you to meet Lt. McDowell's parents; Mrs and Mr. McDowell." D'Tarna said when she got the attention of the Chief Engineer."

Suder turned to see Michaels parents looking at him. They had a look of concern on their face, but something else. Something Suder couldn't pin-point what it was, but he would soon find out.

D'Tarna walked over to the CMO's office so that Suder could talk to Michael's parents with at least some privacy. "I'm sorry we couldn't meet under more happier circumstances." Ethan said quietly.

"What happened to, Michael?" Judith asked.

Suder paused for a moment. Surely both, Judith and Ian had been briefed about what had happened. "He was on a shuttle. Some complications-"

"Did you try to help him?" Judith asked interrupting Ethan.

"Judith." Ian McDowell interrupted, gently resting his hand on her shoulder. Judith shrugged his hand off and continued her stare into the Commander's eyes.

"I couldn't." Ethan replied.

"Why not, he trusted you, you're one of his best friends, and you did nothing?" Judith fired back.

Normally, Suder would have taken up the defensive side and shot back with remarks of his own, but he resigned himself to the fact that these were his best friends parents. And he didn't want to say anything that would destroy his friendship with anyone. "Several away team members had already been dispatched when I'd heard of Michael's accident. We were too short staffed in Engineering to drop what we were doing so that we could-"

The doors to sickbay slid open and Suder noticed Karyn enter, slowly. Probably wondering what all the shouting was.

Karyn didn't get a chance to say hello, or for not matter, to say anything. She had just finished comforting Shinta when she heard all the shouting coming from the opposite side of the room. Needless to say, this was not how she imagined meeting Michael's parents. For a moment, all Karyn could do was listen.

"You should have been out there. With your Betazoid abilities you could have found him quickly. And maybe he wouldn't be in the condition that he's in now!" Judith snapped as she sent her hand cracking across Ethan's face.

Karyn gasped. She knew Michael's parents were angry and they were probably looking for someone to blame, but this was the last thing she expected.

Ethan just stood there and looked at the floor. Maybe she was right. Maybe he could have found him sooner. But someone needed to talk to Karyn. Would they understand that? Besides, Suder had just lost someone too, it's not like Michael was not to, he was going to be fine, or at least that's what Ethan and Karyn kept telling themselves.

"Mrs. McDowell, this isn't the right time to-"

Judith raced passed Suder, straight into the room where Michael was. Ian kind of silently apologized for Judith's actions and followed her in.

"You should probably talk to them." Ethan said quietly to Karyn.

"I'm sorry Ethan, I'm sure she didn't mean to say those things. I'll talk to her, get them to calm down a bit." Karyn placed a hand on his shoulder, "You didn't do anything wrong." With that, Karyn went into Michael's room to see if she could make things better, they couldn't possibly get any worse.

As soon as Karyn entered the room with Michael, Suder quietly left Sickbay. No one noticed him leave. Thankfully, there weren't that many people around. He thought he'd go to his quarters. And when he got there? He'd probably find something to do, if not, he'd do what he always did, go to Engineering and work. He wouldn't let what had just happened in Sickbay happen in Engineering. But hopefully it wouldn't come to that. As she expected, Karyn found Michael's mother and father staring at their son on the biobed. There was no sense pretending to the tension wasn't there. And as always, the only way Karyn knew to relieve tension was with humor. It might not score any extra points with Michael's parents, but somehow she knew she had already lost that fight.

"Well, I see you've already met Ethan, and you made quite an impression on him." She moved over to Mr. McDowell who seemed more sympathetic to the whole situation. Karyn offered her hand. "Hello, I'm Lt. Commander Karyn Dallas, the Chief Counselor onboard the Galaxy. Michael and I are... close friends. Perhaps I can be of some help?"

Ian looked at the woman before him sitting in the AntiGrav-chair. Was this the girl Michael had talked about? Not that Ian had any difficulties with it, but sad enough, Judith might think a bit differently about it if she found out that this was Miss Dallas.

Ian stuck out his own hand and gently shook Karyn's hand. "Ian McDowell, pleased to meet you. Though, like Mr. Suder said, I wish it was under happier circumstances." He said, then looked to his side at Judith. Ian moved closer to Karyn and lowered his voice. "My wife, she's...er...not herself lately. Please, don't judge her too harshly. First the accident, then the complications,...and now the coma. She's very upset about it all and to be honest...I'm afraid she can't take it for much longer."

Karyn put on her best diplomatic smile. It wasn't as though she didn't understand why Michael's mother was feeling this way, but she just wasn't prepared to play a counselor right then. She wanted someone to hold her hand and tell her it was going to be all right. Now it seemed she was in the awkward position of trying to defend her friends.

"I understand sir, but surely you understand holding any of us responsible isn't doing any good. There isn't a person who knew Michael who hasn't gone over what happened over and over in his or her mind. As horrible as his accident was, we all know that these are the dangers we agreed to face as Starfleet officers. We're all trying to deal with this with hope and prayer." There, she said what she'd needed to say and somehow she'd managed to stay perfectly in control while doing it.

Judith, only now able to break away from looking at Michael, turned to her husband. The woman to whom he was talking to got her attention. She was bound to an AntiGrav-chair and still,... she was a Starfleet officer! According to Judith that was almost a contradiction in terms. Ian noticed Judith standing there, watching Miss Dallas. He got an uncomfortable feeling now he had to tell that this was the woman Michael had talked about. "Oh, Judith. This is Lt. Commander Karyn Dallas,...a close friend to Michael." Ian said and looked back again to Karyn. "Karyn, this is my wife Judith."

Karyn put on her best smile, given the circumstances. "It's nice to finally meet you, Mrs. McDowell, Michael has told me so much about you." Karyn offered her hand.

Judith was shocked. At first she couldn't believe that this was Karyn Dallas. In the end she felt it was true, but she didn't want to accept it. It all became too much for her. How could this be true? Why, among all the girls in the universe, had she to be Michael's girlfriend?

When Karyn offered her hand Judith took it but said nothing. She acted in a very stoical manner. "You knew that he was going to Grainus 6, didn't you? He must have told you." Judith suddenly asked. "And like Mr. Suder you must have known that what he was going to do was too dangerous for one man. If you are so close to him then why didn't you do anything!?"

Karyn took a deep and careful breath, deliberately reminding herself who was talking and why she was saying what she said. Karyn was thoroughly aware one more shove from either direction would put her squarely over the emotional edge. At that moment she had great respect for Ethan who had managed to take Judith's outburst with a gentleman-like grace. Her respect so great in fact, she was practically in awe. Because after reviewing all possible outcomes of the current confrontation in her mind, Karyn kept coming back to the one logical, ' I'm not going to kid myself', time to get real reaction of her own: Karyn would hit her back. "Your son is an adult, ma'am. I trust his judgement. You should know people don't get assigned to this ship if they can't take the bull by the horns and do what needs to be done. Michael wanted to help those people and he was going to do it no matter what he had to do to accomplish that. He told me he was leaving, he didn't ask my permission, nor does he have to. We do what needs to be done and I love Michael for it."

Truthfully, Karyn was frustrated because Judith had managed to voice feelings Karyn had never been able to say aloud. She was angry at him. Damn him! Wasn't there any indication the area was unstable? An energy pulse, a neon sign? Christ, there had to have been something!

Judith lost it completely when she heard Karyn's answer. "How dare you say you love him? Have you ever considered the thought that you cannot give what he needs because of your disability!? Did you!?" she yelled. "And what if my son needs physical therapy? How do you think you're ever going to help him through that!?"

Karyn found herself laughing. Her laughter was low and sarcastic, almost chilling. Had Karyn been an outside observer, it would have been impossible for her to determine whether this individual truly found the situation amusing or was on the brink of hysteria. She continued to giggle, stopping a moment to compose herself, as if she was a little girl who had started laughing in church. "Oh, you're good, I mean really good! How long did it take my Dad to find you? He was always good at making me feel two inches tall, but I guess he found his equal when he met you. I'm sorry for my laughter, but really it's all become so clear to me now. I do hope he paid you enough. Your performance was truly magnifiq. I love how you just cut through all those conventions, tact and compassion for example." Her tone was strangely cheerful as though none of it was sinking in at all.

"Enough!!" Ian called out loud. He grabbed Judith's arm. The last words of his wife had stunned him. Had she lost her mind? "Enough of this! Judith, how could you say those things? What were you thinking!? Do you know what you just did!?"

Turning to Karyn Ian felt ashamed and found it very difficult to face the woman. "I...I'm so sorry. I don't know what to say. It's obvious my wife is not feeling well." he said. Ian paused, but the seconds of silence quickly became unbearable. "I...err...I think it's best if we returned to our quarters."

Karyn suddenly got quiet, almost wistful. "I think I need to be alone now. I'm really tired, I need to rest." She wasn't looking at them at all. She had totally disconnected, shut herself down for the moment. She was numb. "Goodbye."

Ian almost forced Judith out of Sickbay and into nearby turbo lift. Without facing Judith he said, "What you have done in Sickbay is unforgivable...Do you even know how much damage you've caused!?"

Judith kept playing the silent one. Not one word came out of her mouth. She didn't care what she had done. They had done nothing to prevent Michael's accident. She had every right to be angry. Then there was that disabled woman; did she really think that she was the right girl for Michael or that she could even help him through this difficult period (given the fact that he would come out of his coma)? Judith thought that that was impossible.

Karyn wasn't even aware they were gone. For a long while all she could do was hold Michael's hand.

Based on STAR TREK created by Gene Roddenberry
Story by Lieutenant Commander Ethan Suder - Chief Engineer

"The Old Crew"

'Commanders Suder and La Forge strolled over to the turbolift from Main Engineering. The corridors were rather large and the directions were very sharp, each direction heading to a specific place, not like a Galaxy class ship where there are just endless corridors. Still talking about upgrades and system modifications, they both thought that they could benifit from each other's experience. They also brought up the odd memory here and there.

"Will was going for his usual bluff but we caught him out. And for the first time in ages, Data and myself scored big time. I don't think we've won a poker game since though. Will seems to come back with a vengance." Geordi laughed. He pressed a button on the wall panel and the turbolift began to hum.

The turbolift doors opened and Suder and Geordi stepped in. At first Suder thought that the officer already in the turbolift was just another junior officer, but it was the guy he was anxious to see again. The gold uniform seemed to glow and the Lieutenant Commander pips were attached proudly.

"Data!" Ethan snapped as he tapped the Androids arm.

"Welcome aboard, and congradulations on your promotion." Data said as he held out his hand.

Ethan shook it and laughed as several memories popped into his head. "How have things been Data?"

Data's head twitched slightly as he thought about his answer. He then just looked at Ethan and smiled very slightly. "Busy. It seems that it is just one adventure after another on this ship. It is a most interesting experience, serving on a ship that is on the edge of Federation space." Data explained.

"I know what you mean. I heard about the incident with the Sona'. That was quite an interesting report." Ethan noted.

"There was an interesting chain of events to be sure. After the mission, I returned to the village for a short time. Starfleet is helping build another colonly for some of the Sona'." Data explained.

"I'll have to go for a few days, sounds like a nice planet." Ethan replied.

"The inhabitants have an easier way of life, although just as interesting as ours. I am sure you will find the experience most pleasing." Data replied.

The turbolift came to a halt and the doors hissed open. Data and Geordi both stepped out and Ethan followed. This was it. The Bridge. The centre of operations for this mighty vessel. A great design. Big, but organised. The command seat of course in the centre, the helm not to far away. Tatcical near the back.

"Shouldn't you be on the surface, Data?" Geordi asked.

"Captain Picard asked me to return to the ship to check the diagnostics that we've been running. I believe it was an excuse to... get away from certain Betazoid individuals. I will be returning to the surface shortly." Data explained as he moved over to a console, taking a seat and tapping in his command code so that he could access the computer information.

Ethan had always been impressed with how fast Data could work. In the mean time, Geordi walked over to the centre of the Bridge and waved at the view screen. Suder stepped over to the Command chair and looked at the view screen. Displayed was every ship in the fleet here for the wedding. Lots of ships could be seen individually, Galaxy, Miranda, Nebula, Defiant and Nova class ships all flew around in formation.

"It's an impressive view isn't it?" Chief Daniels said from the Tactical station.

Ethan glanced at the Tactical officer and nodded. "It is." he replied.

"I will be returning to the surface now. I will inform Commander Riker and Counselor Troi that you are... about." Data said.

Suder looked over his shoulder to see Data standing right in front of the command chair. He was impressed with how quiet the Android had moved from the computer station to the centre of the Bridge.

"I'll see you down on the planet." Ethan replied.

Data gave a nod to both Geordi and Ethan and then left the Bridge.

"I have to drop by Sickbay and take a look at the EMH program, want to tag along?" Geordi asked.

"Sure. I haven't met the Doctor yet, it would be nice to be introduced. I hear she has some good stories about the Captain." Ethan stated.

Geordi smiled and made his way to the turbolift with Ethan following. "We're still using the EMH Mark One, since you have the Mark Two, you might be of some good help to us." he noted as they stepped into the turbolift.

"Well it's nice to see the Galaxy's not the only ship out of date." Ethan joked...

"Food or Thought?"
By Lt jg. Navarre Shinta
Ensign Tess Polarasi

Shinta almost forgot her lunch date with Tess. Their department was so busy right now now, and with Karyn only working part-time a lot came down to her. And Shinta missed the experience to handle it all fast.

She rushed into the bar, seeing Tess already there. "I am so sorry I am late." She apologized profusely.

Tess smiled as she looked up at the woman. "Don't worry about it, I've been keeping myself occupied watching all these ships....I can't remember the last time I saw such a variety not amassed for war purposes..."

Shinta smiled. "It is impressive, so have you seen a lot of war then?"

"I suppose so," Tess nodded. "Not much more than most officers in the Fleet these days."

Shinta nodded, she had seen enough of war since she was 10. And she could understand another person not really wanting to talk about it. "So how are in settling in, are your quarters alright?"

Tess nodded. "Yeah, pretty much Starfleet's Standard issue, but at the moment I have a room to myself. And that's a first..."

"Good, I always hated sharing when I was a crewman. Since I have Gavin we have always been lucky enough to have room to ourselves. So what are your hobbies?"

"Well...." She thought for a moment. "I like to keep fit, mainly through swimming, and ummm....fencing too. I quite enjoy Political debates too, and chess and I'm pretty much into most types of literature. I've even started to write my own novel....I'm not sure it's much good though." She stopped. "Am I am babbling?"

Shinta laughed. "No, I am glad that you are finally talking to me. I like fencing too, I never learnt to swim, there was not much water in the desert on Bajor. Sounds like a nice sport. And I never learned to read for fun, until I started my officers training four years ago."

Tess smiled. "You really should learn to swim sometime, it's a great way to keep fit and it can be fun too..."

Shinta looked unsure, "I don't know, water scares me a bit to be honest."

"Ah, there's nothing to be afraid of, especially if you learn in the holodeck..."

"On the holodeck? How would we do that, and who would teach me?"

Tess smiled. "It's easy, you just simulate a swimming pool, or lake. Simple program to make really. And hey, I might not be quite an expert but I could teach you..

Shinta looked unsure. "If you think it is safe..."

"Believe me, with safeties on, the holodeck will cut off the program if you get too distressed never mind if anything bad happens..."

"Well if you are sure, okay you can teach me. That's a deal."

Tess smiled. "I'm on the night shift tomorrow....so how about we meet at say....1000 hours the next day in holodeck 2? That gives me time to get changed and ready after my shift ends..."

"All right." Shinta wondered how she had caught myself into this. But she was not a coward and she was not backing down.

Tess smiled and looked around. "Do they serve in this place at all?" She saw a waitress heading towards them. At last she could get some food...

"Explaining to the boss."

Lieutenant Commander Tim O'Connell
Ensign Peter Lockhart

On deck 38 Tim waited silently as Peter Lockhart walked over, "Ok Lockhart what's your impressions?"

Peter pulled a face at the 'commander and started to explain. "I went to Electra's quarters to question her about Lieutenant Pailaka's whereabouts at the time of the murder. She confirmed he'd been there.... but like I say, I think she was hiding something, or even out and out lying."

"Serious charges Lockhart. What gives you that impression?" Tim asked.

"Well, when I arrived, I asked if she'd heard about the murder. She said she had and I asked her if she'd been with Mike during the night. From 02:00 to about 07:00. The five hours previous to the murder, like Mike had said." Peter explained.

Tim nodded for him to continue. "And that's when she seemed all confused. She seemed surprised to learn there had just been a murder, even though she claimed initially to know about them." Peter paused for a good minutes and tried to think.

"And what do you think then Ensign?" Tim asked.

"If I had to conclude about something," Peter said, getting ready for one of his famously incorrect conclusions, "I'd have to say she thought I was talking about something else. Perhaps another murder?" Peter concluded slowly and quietly. "But I've been wrong before about this sir. All I can say for certain is that I..... well......I just got the impression something was wrong sir. Maybe she was lying, maybe she just wasn't telling the whole truth."

Peter finished his conclusion, not sure what to believe and just shrugged his shoulders. "It was damn strange anyway sir."

Tim choked slightly on his coffee and looked at Peter, "You got that right it is strange, maybe she was surprised seeing you on duty." He teased the younger officer, "Ok, I think Mike is a minor suspect, but it's too early to definitively rule anyone out. One thing, Heather Sanchez reported a peeper to me, she caught the lad herself, threatened to beat him if she caught him again, could you interview him, just to check wherabouts, just incase he did a bit more then peeping in his past. You can get the name from her."

Peter smiled at the crack Tim had mentioned about Peter being on duty. "Yes sir." he replied, and headed out out of security towards Heather's quarters. It was when he was about half way down the corridor that he suddenly stopped.

"Wait a moment!" he drawled slowly. "O'Connell's got me chasing some fourteen year old peeping tom?" he muttered to himself. "He probably doesn't trust me!" he exclaimed in the quiet corridor, before finishing, "He'd be right!"

Peter tapped his comm. badge and called, "Computer, present location of Lieutenant' Sanchez."

"Lieutenant Sanchez is in Turbolift 5, heading for deck 38." the female voice replied.

"I'll intercept her before she gets here." Peter remarked, and waited for Heather to arrive.

Lt. Jake T. Olson
USS Galaxy
Galaxy 10-4

Finding a sitter for little Bud was not difficult. As he was going on away team duty, it was imperative that Jake do so.

"Jake, Bud doesn't have any separation anxiety!"

"I try not to take it personally Brook, really I do." Jake sipped tea.

Brook laughed. "Most parents have to deal with that, how did you sideswipe that?"

"I don't know, but then Bud's very independent minded." Jake's reply was rueful.

"We never see him in the lab."

"No, he's not like Sullar, he would be into everything in an utter flash. As it is, I've padlocked the quarters." The subject of conversation crawled into the living room of his baby sitter. "I'm afraid that he's more Darian Casey than quiet scientist."

The baby turned his head, giving his Daddy and Brook an intense long look. He picked up a stuffed ball, and smashed it to the ground. He flicked at it, than bounced it again. Then it managed to roll away. With great speed the baby went after it.

Leaving the baby in his sitter's capable hands, Jake went about getting another baby, aka this away team, set and ready to fly.

"Project Holly"
Written by Darren Jones
Ensign, Operations Officer, USS Galaxy

Additions by Tesaria Kay Polarasi
Ensign, Operations Officer, USS Galaxy

Darren wondered around the computer lab, not bothering with the wedding - Afterall, holly needed his attention and Tess was comming to help.

Darren had been up all night, his mind so entrenched into the AI factor as well as the neural sub connectors that time just seemed to fly. He was still injured from last night, scratches on his face and a number of bruised ribs - nothing to painful but his mind was on more important things.

The door opened and Tess entered

"Mornin Tess" Darren looked at his watch and realised the time "Arvo i should say!" Tess entered the computer lab and took a look at the screen.

"I see you got the Neural sub connectors intergrated!" Tess said with a hint of surprise in her voice. Darren turned to face her "Yes did that last night after I took a small break."

Tess looked at him. "You didn't sleep again, did you?"

Darren shrugged. "I wasn't tired, besides I got interested..."

Tess rolled her eyes. "You know, all these sleepless nights fuelled by caffeine ain't going to be doing you any good!"

Darren just smiled "Never.... it's just like at the Academy, sleepless nights studing, so tiered that you cant really remeber what has happened only hours before." He smiled and turned back "You realise that when you pass a certain level of having no sleep, you don't feel tired?"

"Yes, but we seem to sleep more than humans anyway" Tess replied.

Darren laughed thinking back to his cat Jaffa. "Yes you would sleep a lot"

Tess smirked. "I can't help it if I have a similar genetic property to domestic felines. I just get tired sometimes." She winked as she sat down at a console. "Besides, being on night shift doesn't help one's sleep cycle. So..." She looked over at him again. "...where are we at?"

"We were at the point of setting up the neural connections inside the pack, so the advanced internal circitry would hold up to the stresses of imense energy outputs and inputs" Darren smiled and turned the opposite way, his injured face slightly darkened with the blacks and blues of brusing and a couple of cuts.

"But now, we are finished that and ready to attach a form of input device into it!" Darren posed the question.

"Does that mean I /can/ go to bed now then?" She asked with fake hopefulness.

Darren looked and laughed "Ahhhhhh........ No." he smiled and turned back to pack "We need some way of using the pack?"

Tess noted the bruising but decided not to comment for fear that it may be a 'sore' point to talk about. "Well, I suppose if we used some sort of wrist pad-like interface or a hudd it should work? I mean that would mean no excessive overloading, wouldn't it?"

Darren shook his head "A wrist padd would be no better than using a normal tricorder, and were aimming for something much higher!" he thought about the hudd and remembered the headsets that the Jem'Hdar used.

"The headset would work thou!" he scanned through some computer documents brining up the typical Jem'Hdar headset "Headset with a view screen!" Darren said happily.

"Perhaps we should run some simulations to check for that..." Tess turned back to the console, ready to prepare the sims if Darren agreed.

Darren smiled "Ok run the simulations and modify the headset - I am going to catch up on some sleep"

Tess nodded to Darren as he left the Computer Labs.

"Briefing."
By: Lt/Cmd Ryak Sullax
CSO, USS Galaxy

Ryak awoke to find that Sullar had made them both breakfast. Ryak looked around the now very messy quarters and all he could do is shake his head.

"Sullar what have you done?"

"Me big father. Me make food. You Hungry?"

"What did you make Sullar?" Ryak moved over to the table and sat down.

"Me make eggs and toast."

Ryak smiled and began to eat the breakfast his son had made. Ryak kept a smile on his face as he ate the undercooked and overcooked eggs. After he finished his meal he grabbed Sullar and got him ready for school. Ryak Got ready for work and took Sullar to class.

"Computer send following message to all Science Officers." Ryak said as he sat down at his desk. "This is Lt/Cmd Sullax, I am informing the following people that they will be requested for an away team mission. You will be given 30 minutes of notice when we leave. Have all of your things ready. This is not a test and I will not accept failure. Myself (Mission Commander), Lt/Cmd Genestra(Mission Specialist), Lt. Olson, Ensign MacAllen and Ensign Sovok. That is all, Sullax Out."

Ryak sent the message and leaned back in his chair.

Lt Seth Zonhieb, Gorn Security Officer

A dangerous combination was brewing. The smell of blood on the gorn's tongue and frustration in his heart. Seth was frustrated at not picking up the scent of the killer. There was only the tangy taste of blood and he was still on duty with a clear job to do. Track down a murderer.

His clawed finger doubled over so the knuckle could push the door chime. Seth waited for the victims neighbour to answer. It didn't take long. "I already gave my statement." The young klingon was irritated at the interruptions to his calisthenics.

"This is a weapons search." The gorn thrust a small flat square data pad at the occupant. "Orders from Albrecht."

The klingon stepped aside and the gorn entered. Immediately he saw several bladed weapons. Seth's tongue told him none had been used on a real person for a while. He decided to scan them with the tricorder and double checked they matched the ships weapons registry. All of them matched so he turned and left.

Again he rang another door. This was a useless search the gorn knew any killer wouldn't leave a weapon around to be found. While he waited he played the murder scene in his head. The timing that it must have taken to get the woman alone in a shared quarters. Any cry for help would have been muffled by the walls. While a communicator lay on the night stand.

Just then the door opened. "Routine weapons search." the gorn declared and entered this neighbours room with less hostility. He scanned the room and found a pearing knife for peeling fruits. To the carnivore more obscene then any butchers knife was the thought of eating that type of food. There was nothing else so the gorn left.

The third door stood before the security guard and he didn't ring the bell. The murder had to of targeted this victim. Tracked her to the time and place when they could strike. That wasn't a random event. Of course the gorn couldn't be certain of the human mating habits but, The woman had been naked under her towel but from the look of the cut there was very little intent at sexual activity.

Anyone who made a living of eating raw flesh could tell the death wound was to a vital area. Death was instantaneous as it was intended to be. The murder had struck down this victim for the thrill of the hunt.

That meant it wasn't a random act or a sexual predator but a real predator. Someone that enjoyed the kill. That meant there would be more such murders if not caught soon. Seth turned the thoughts in his mind over to how to hunt a hunter. First he would have to find the next victim.

"Juggling."
by Lt. Commander Evin Genestra and Ensign Peter Lockhart
Corrections made by Captain Price

The new assistant chief science officer was becoming anxious at the thought of one of his parents transporting to the U.S.S. Galaxy. In all of his years in Starfleet he had never actually received his mother or father on a starship assignment. As a result, Evin casually paced the length of the transporter room as the chief petty officer watched him without drawing attention to the fact.

"Any word yet?" Genestra said as he stopped for a moment and turned to the young woman.

Giving the transporter chief a nod he began to slowly pace the length of the transporter room once again. As Evin concentrated on walking from one side of the room to the other he realised that there was probably nothing to worry about. Shaking his head, the half-Betazoid scientist found himself smirking at how nervous he had become. It was very much unlike him.

The transporter room doors opened and in walked the last person that the scientist would have expected to see.

"Captain," Evin said not entirely sure why the starship commander found him in that particular room, "I wasn't expecting you."

"That's all right 'mate." Price said in his typically calm Australian tone. "Commander Casey is currently indisposed and I had a free moment."

"It is appreciated. My mother ..." Evin began before being interrupted.

"Ambassador Genestra is ready, sirs." Roberts, the transporter chief, said as she awaited instruction to begin beaming over the Federation dignitary.

The Captain looked over at the thirty year old scientist, allowing him to give the order to beam across his mother.

"Go ahead, Chief." Genestra said as he turned sidewise to address the noncommissioned officer behind the console.

The two Starfleet officers turned to face the transporter pad as Chief Roberts began the transport cycle. As Evin ran his fingers through his hair, in a last ditch effort to ensure that it was neat, the Captain straightened his grey duty uniform.

In a matter of a few moments the sixty-five year old Human woman had materialised on the transporter pad. She was clad in a burgundy tunic, which extended passed the hips almost in to a dress, and a pair of burgundy which matched her top. Her hair was short and grey, whilst her face demonstrated a series of wrinkles that came with much life experience.

"I am Captain Lee Price," the starship captain said. Raising his hand he offered it to the aging diplomat to use as leverage whilst stepping off the transporter pad. Whilst she did not appear frail in the slightest, Lee thought it would be polite. "Welcome to the U.S.S. Galaxy, madam Ambassador."

"Why thank you, Captain." Catherine said as he gratefully accepted his assistance in getting down. Glancing over at her youngest child she gave him a smile but did her best to avoid over-expressing her maternal nature. Instead of kissing or hugging him in front of his captain, something which she suspected would make him uncomfortable, Catherine tenderly placed her hand on his shoulder. "It is always good to see you again, Evin."

"Likewise, Mother." the assistant chief scientist remarked.

"Well," Price said as he indicated that he had discharged his duty in accordance with etiquette for the arrival of a dignitary, "I apologise, but I do have ship's business to attend to."

Catherine nodded in acknowledgments. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Captain. Thank you for your welcome."

"A pleasure, madam Ambassador." the Galaxy's commanding officer said. Looking over at his officer he received a thankful expression from Evin Genestra as he stood beside the Human diplomat. "Enjoy your tour."

"I am sure I shall." Ambassador Genestra replied as the captain excused himself and left the transporter room, presumably for the Bridge or his Ready Room, perhaps even the comfort of his own quarters.

*** Ten Forward ***

"... the Enterprise in orbit of the planet." Catherine remarked before she raised her Jestral tea to her lips and drank some of the herbal infusion.

Evin nodded. He had been aware that his previous assignment was in high orbit of the planet on which he had been born. Although he thought that he had adjusted to living on the U.S.S. Galaxy, seeing the Sovereign-class vessel, and some of her crew both here on the ship and on Betazed, brought back a lot of memories.

"It's a shame I won't have much time to send my regards." the scientist said as he too drank some of his beverage too.

"Whatever do you mean?"

"We're leaving in two days." Evin tried to say without bringing too much attention to that point.

"I was under the impression that the Galaxy would remain in orbit longer than that," the female ambassador remarked. Although she was not a Betazoid, not having the benefit of empathic or telepathic abilities like the rest of her immediate family, she was observant. Catherine could tell by Evin's body language and tone of voice that he really did not wish to dwell on the inevitable.

"Do you remember that settlement I told you about?" the assistant science chief said rhetorically, hoping to allow the older woman to recall their conversation earlier. "Well, our department is supposed to be heading there in the next day or two. That includes me also."

Catherine felt a little disappointed but had come to realise, especially with her long time husband in the same position, that it came with being a Starfleet officer. Deep down she felt a little angry at herself for having expected that her son would be able to stay for longer than reality would allow.

"Well," she conceded, "we'd better make the most of the time we have then."

"Agreed." Evin said, somewhat relieved that she took the disappointing news so well. He too had hoped to spend more time with his family and catching up with old friends from the U.S.S. Enterprise: it just was not supposed to be.

As the Ten Forward waitress placed down two new cups of tea a channel was opened to the thirty year old. ["Sullax to Genestra. Can you please report to Stellar Cartography immediately. I have something I want to discuss with you."]

The assistant chief science officer knew that it was mission-related and did not even both to request a small delay. It was unlikely that Sullax, who had displayed a certain level of intolerance to tardiness, would have appreciated it from the scientist. The only problem was that he would most likely be gone long enough to miss most of the tour he had promised her.

Looking across the table he managed a smile for his mother. "I have to go. I do not think I will be away for very long, but ..."

"No need to hurry." Catherine said reassuringly, even though, deep down, she was a little disappointed by the already shortened time they would have together, "just take your time. I'll still be here when you return."

Evin nodded. "I'm on my way, sir. Genestra out."

The lieutenant commander felt awkward as he stood up. He could not be late getting to Stellar Cartography since the mission was already working on a tight deadline, but he could not just leave his mother alone in the lounge.

"Are you positively certain that you will be all right?"

"I'll find the way to your quarters once I am finished here." the ambassador said. "Then we can continue once you are finished."

Evin glanced around. He saw the lounge host, the El-Aurian Gailyn, and considered asking him to entertain her. Turning back to the Human woman, "If you wait there for just a moment."

As the empath began walking to the bar he noticed his friend, Peter Lockhart, walking in through the large wooded doors. Whilst he was not too sure of the detail he figured that the security officer was taking a short break from the murder investigation of Ensign Kiley.

Peter was wandering into Ten Forward, fully expecting a quiet drink and chat with various people, before getting drunk and shouting a lot. He needed a break as the investigation wasn't proceeding well at the moment.

"Peter!" Evin said, surprising his security friend as he took a seat at the bar. "I need a huge favour. My mother is here and I promised her a tour of the ship, however, the chief science officer has called me away." In a friendly manner the empath placed his hand on the fellow Englishman's shoulder, trying to emphasised how important this would be. "Please, be a mate, could you show her around the ship?" he half begged.

"Uhhh yeah sure." Peter said half-heartedly. He didn't want to, but likewise, he felt he couldn't (and shouldn't) refuse the 'Commander. Not just because of rank but because the two had shared more than a few drinks since Genestra arrived on the U.S.S. Galaxy.

Evin quickly led the Starfleet ensign to his mother and introduced them. "Mother, this is Ensign Peter Lockhart. He's going to give you that tour I promised you instead." the half-Betazoid said before turning to the junior security officer, "If you need anything, just call me, okay?"

"Of course." Peter replied.

"You're English?" Catherine observed as she heard the two crewmembers talking. "Where exactly?"

"Kings Lynn."

"I'm a Sudbury woman myself." the Federation ambassador volunteered, the two towns not too far away from one another.

'Commander Genestra took this opportunity to leave the conversation quietly and rendezvous with 'Commander Sullax in Stellar Cartography. He trusted Peter and knew that the woman that gave him birth was in good hands. Despite having to leave her, it was a small consolation that it was with a friend and not a complete stranger.

Peter smiled, being polite. "Well Ma'am. Where would you like to start?" Peter said, trying his best to impress. Unfortunately, Evin had forgot to mention that she was a Federation ambassador, when he first approached the younger man, but at the moment he would have to be on his best behaviour.

"I'll leave that up to you, Ensign." Catherine replied. "You know this starship better than I do."

"Well, shall we start from the top and work our way down, or the bottom and work our way up?" Peter asked.

"Again Mr. Lockhart, the choice is all yours." Catherine replied, rising from her seat and straightening her burgundy tunic.

Peter gave it some thought. It was quite a large vessel and there were any number of places they could begin a tour. "Well," he said, thinking of the best location to start, "let's start at the bottom. I'll show you security, where I work. Then on to Main Engineering and the science laboratories."

Catherine nodded. It was logic worthy of a Vulcan. "Lead the way then Ensign." Catherine added. "I'm sure I'll be very impressed."

The pair headed out of Ten Forward and the turbolift which they would take to the bottom of the ship.

*** Shortly, Deck 38 ***

"And this is the main security officer ma'am. Where I work." Peter explained briefly. He wasn't going to hang around here if he could help it. He'd either get collared by one of his friends and laughed at later, or else collared by a superior officer and told to be early to his next shift.

However, Catherine had decided otherwise. "Well, aren't you going to show me inside Mr. Lockhart?"

"Yes of course." Peter said, a little nervously. He stepped inside and started talking. "Security is, obviously, the best department on the ship. We're responsible for making sure crime is prevented and investigating any criminal activities that do manage to get past our rigorous enforcement." he started, explaining what he did, whilst Lieutenant' Sanchez looked on, smirking.

"Rigorous enforcement? I presume also that you don't take your powers too far and civil liberties are upheld?" Catherine asked politely.

Peter thought for a second and considered what he and Catherine had just said. It never occurred to him that security could do any wrong, but living on Betazed for so long had made Catherine realise that civil liberties where important as well, especially after the recent occupation by the Dominion.

"Well, of course. We never overstep our mark." Peter fumbled around for an explanation, and even Heather had lost her smile at what she perceived as a slight on her department.

"You were saying anyway, Peter?" Catherine said, as though nothing had happened.

"Yes. I was saying... Security has a total of one hundred and eighty one members at present; fourty seven of which are officers. The rest are enlisted crew men. Four shifts, made up of fourty five people guard the ship night and day. The present chief, Lieutenant Commander Albrecht, can no doubt be seen frowning at various reports during alpha shift." Peter explained, the last part with a smile.

"I see. And who is responsible for external threats?" Catherine asked, not noticing that 'Commander Albrecht had emerged from his office and was passing his finger across his neck, miming the words for 'you're dead' at Peter.

"That's the tactical department ma'am." Peter said, ignoring the chief, "I'll show you that on the bridge."

"Then lead on please Peter." she stated.

*** Several departments later ***

"Deck 31." Peter explained. "Science labs, where your son works."

Catherine merely nodded and Peter stepped inside. He couldn't immediately see Evin, but he was greeted by an arrogant young Science officer.

"Yeah, what can I do for you?" Lieutenant' Duneson asked.

"Hi. I'm just showing the Ambassador around the ship, Lieutenant. I presume that will be okay?" Peter said.

"Yeah whatever. I'm busy at the moment." he said, moving back to his work.

"Of course, sir. Not a problem." Peter replied, and started explaining, as best he could, what the science department did on the ship. After a short tour of the various labs, the pair headed onwards towards deck twelve and sickbay.

["Genestra to Lockhart. What is your location?"] Evin asked over the communication system.

"Near sickbay 'Commander." Peter replied. "Working our way up the ship."

["Excellent. I'll meet you at the primary tuboshaft on Deck Twelve. Genestra out."]

Lt. Jake T. Olson JP with Cmdr Thomas
USS Galaxy
Galaxy 10-4

"I don't understand anything, I mean, Jake for one thing." the inebriated Scott was talking quite literally in a beer in a corner. "He doesn't act like a glory hound, but he sure as hell is."

"Who doesn't act like a glory hound?" Lt. Commander Thomas asked as he over heard the conversation.

"Olson. Jake Olson. I don't know how he did it but he smoozed in right good with the high ups." Scott Duneson gave a sour laugh. "The guy is a Technicolor nerd, but he seems to understand Sullax like a text." Scott belched.

The 'commander wasn't sure how much this officer had been drinking, but he seemed to have a snoot full. "And why do you feel this way?"

"Jake Olson looks like an idiot in a clown suit, runs around with white hair and neon yellow swim shorts, a scare crow with a grin. He hooks up with a Vulcan, whom is sober all the time," Scott couldn't see, he was so far gone, the shape of this guy's ears. "and Sullax, a clear cut case of the willies, doesn't even cause this guy so much as a 'boo'! What drives me nuts is all he can think about, while running around with glory biting his ass."

Lt. Commander Thomas thought about what was running through this officers mind. From the lack of control and language it was clear this man was drunk. "Mister I recommend that you go to your quarters."

"Jake sent you?" Scott accused.

No!" the 'commander said. "No one sent me." Chris said in response. Of course is was highly unlikely this man was going to believe him.

"Sheeeiiit. I's beginning to wonder if Jake's a Huumann." Scott slurred. Electra passed by, and Scott gave her close scrutiny.

Lt. Commander Thomas had heard enough from the now very obviously drunk ensign, "Ensign, return to your quarters, and that's a direct order." the 'commander gave, but readied himself for anything just in case the officer was too drunk.

Scott stared a very long moment at this bastard ordering him around. The expression was very ugly for a long moment, then reluctantly the man obeyed.

Lt. Commander Thomas could see the man was struggling to see past the alcohol that was affecting his brain. "Ensign we'll talk later about this, but for now report to your quarters and sleep this off." Chris said. For now he wouldn't report this to anyone, but he did decide to take another move. "Ensign if you don't mind I'll make sure you get to your quarters."

"I'm a Lt. JG." Scott snarled and turned his back on Thomas.

I apologize Lt." 'Commander Thomas said, as he spotted the other pip on this man's collar noting that was indeed his rank. "We all make mistakes Lt." Thomas said.

Scott kinda grinned at Thomas in a vacant fashion. He turned, and tried to walk away.

Scott ran into Susan, his ex girl friend. "You know what Jake said about your drinking." she said the wrong thing.

"Fuck you." Scott returned tiredly.

The 'commander saw this brash response to the accident, and could no longer stand by and try this in a diplomatic fashion. "Lt. you will go to your quarters at once and remain there until further notice." Chris said. "And I will personally escort you there."

He then nodded to a security officer in the room, "Ensign please to see her" indicating the lady who'd been bumped by the Lt. (jg) "to sickbay to make sure she's ok."

"I gave her a dirty look." Scott sniffed.

You gave her more then a dirty look and you know it Lt." Thomas said.

"Don't get grabby!" Scott objected to Thomas's touch.

Thomas removed his hand, "Then let's go." he said. He would escort him to his quarters nicely or else he would call security for the brig.

Scott co operated this time. They arrived at his quarters, and Scott went in.

Chris was surprised and happy that he was cooperating now. He'd also double checked to make sure it was the Lt.'s quarters before anything else. "Thank you Lt." Thomas said as the door closed.

"Computer lock Lt. Scott Duneson quarters for the next 12 hours. Authorization Lt. Commander Thomas" Chris said. He would inform Scott's commanding officer of the situation if needed.

"Kids! Who needs 'em."
By Ensign Peter Lockhart

Peter pressed the door chime and rechecked the PADD he had. The quarters of one Lieutenant JG John Mitchell and his wife Chloe and fourteen year old son Michael.

The door was opened by a woman in her late thirties, with long dark hair, of average height, wearing a white and red spotted dress.

"Mrs. Mitchell?" Peter asked.

"Yes, that's me. Do you need anything?" she replied.

"I'm Ensign Peter Lockhart from security ma'am. I'd like to speak to your son Michael if that's possible?" he asked politely, hoping for an easy time of this.

"He's here, but I want to know what all this is about first Ensign." she said firmly.

"I've had a complaint that your son was peeping in the female showers a few hours ago." Peter said bluntly, not mentioning that it was Sanchez who'd made the complaint. "I'd like to speak with him please?"

Chloe seemed taken aback that her son could've done such a thing, and for a minute Peter was expecting her to demand a warrant, but it wasn't necessary. "Of course Ensign. Come inside." she said, and allowed Peter to pass.

He stepped inside and looked around the quarters. Small for the family, but more than comfortable.

"Mike, can you come here a minute please?" Mrs. Mitchell called out.

"What is it mum? I'm busy!" came the reply, whilst Peter fidgeted with his PADD. He wondered how Lieutenant Zonhieb was doing on his rounds. Probably killing anyone who didn't answer his questions if he read the officer right!

"There's a man here to see you." she replied, not mentioning that Peter was from security.

The boy suddenly came storming in, clearly not happy at being bothered, but froze when he saw Peter with his yellow security uniform.

"Hi Mike." was all Peter managed, before the boy started to babble.

"It wasn't me, I didn't do it!" he said.

"Hold on, no one's accused you of anything yet." Peter said. "I'd just like to ask you a few questions."

"Do you want to sit down Mike." his mother said, making an order rather than a question. The boy sat down on the couch.

Peter tried to get this out tactfully, but still managed to botch it. "Now I believe that you've been spying on the ladies showers Mike." the boy opened his mouth to protest, but Peter pressed on, "and I know that Lieutenant' Sanchez has already disciplined you about that. That's not why I'm here."

"Lieutenant' Sanchez? From security." his mother asked, clearly angry at how security seemed to be wasting time investigating peeping toms rather than the murder in question. "There is a murderer loose on the Galaxy and all you can do is harass innocent people." his mother said.

"No no! What I want to know is simply this. Firstly Mike, have you every, well, done anything like this before, and if you have, have you noticed anyone else hanging around the female changing area? Someone more my age than yours." Peter managed to get in.

Mike shook his head slowly. Peter wasn't sure if the boy was lying about either question, so he tried one more time. "Are you sure Mike. It's very important. You're not going to get in trouble, no matter what you say."

Once again the boy shook his head and his mother said, "It's clear he doesn't know anything. Now if you'd be so kind Ensign." she said, making clear the conversation was over.

Peter merely nodded and said, "Thank you anyway ma'am. Thank you Mike." and headed out the door. Once the door had closed, he thought he could her Mike's mother giving him a damn good roasting for being a peeping tom, and that raised a smile on his face.

"Time to head back to 'Commander O'Connell" Peter said quietly, and set off down the corridor.

[I'll see you later sis.]

[I hope that room of yours isn't as messy as...]

[Trust me Jaina, it's much cleaner than you can imagine! Bye!] He cut off the communication.

****5 minuntes later****

The El-Aurian youth was just relaxing after all the walking, still in his Garb, when he the door chime.

"Coming, coming..." He mumbled aloud.

Opening the door, Adrian gave a double look as as broad smile materialized on his face in less than a nanosecond. Before him stood a tall maiden in Emerald Green El-Aurian robes wearing the beautiful necklce he had given her on thier date. Her long hair, before in curls, was presently in a beautifully done french braid.

"Zer...!" Was all he could say before the gorgeous humanoid gave him a big kiss.

"Adrian! It's great to see you!"

"What... huh..." He replied, a bit dazed from the pleasnt experience. "Au'valos vrital shiar Gosej'tup'al!" [My love, it's great to see you as well!]

"So, can I come in, or shall we just stand here a while?" She teased.

"Yes, sorry about that. It's just so great to see you! I didn't expect you here so soon!"

"Well, I wanted it to be a total suprise!" She said. "Mom's handling things with our quarters, so I decided to drop by and see you."

"Well,m since your here, how does a trip to the Holodeck sound?"

"Sounds great, let's go!"

"Duty, Honor, and Heartbreak - Part 1"

Ensign Rose Isis MacAllen
Science Officer

Lt(jg) Enrique Zai de Marquez
Counselor

Ensign Vanda M'Giia
Nurse- NPC

Lt Lexana Ral
Security Officer-NPC

**** Timeline: 2 days before the wedding ***

Rose have been working very hard in the Science Lab. she was trying to hide the heartache that she got from Lt Com Evin Genestra he rejected her when she asked his out on a date a few days after they came back from the away team mission. After that Rose felt that she wasn't perfect, beauiful, or smart for he or any man now, then something happen to her, something that she been hiding from her friends and family including from Lt Commander Dallas: she have bulimia. It came back full force after Genestra rejected her. As she was working in the Science Lab she can hears other officers and crewmen whispering about how very thin and pale she looks.

*** 8 Hours Later ***

After spending 2 days without eating or sleeping, but working in the Science Lab it was time for her to go to Betazed to do her royal duties and to visit her mother Lady Michelle MacAllen, Countess of Betazoid who have the same rank and royal title as Rose herself.

Rose didn't have much packing to do since she would have everything she needed at the Palace. She quickly stopped by her quarters to get her fashionable sling bag and headed to Transporter Room 2. Entering the room as the doors slid open, Rose saw Enrique, Vanda and another woman she didn't know sitting on the rim of the transporter platform with their suitcases. She remembered inviting Enrique and Vanda, but she was unfamiliar with the other woman.

"Finally, she decided to show up," Vanda commented with the usual sarcastic tint in her voice. They were all dressed in comfortable civilian clothes, and Vanda had packed very carefully for the warm Betazoid climate. Andorians didn't harmonize well with heat.

"Hi Rose," Enrique said, standing up and walking to her, giving her a hug. "Glad you could join us. This is Lieutenant Lexana Ral." He pointed to the dark-haired woman who stood up and extended her hand to Rose. "Karyn suggested she go along just to be on the safe side what with everything that's been going on lately."

"Nice to meet you Rose," Lexana said, shaking her hand.

Enrique looked at the operations officer as they climbed on the transporter pad. "Have a safe trip," the officer smiled. "Energizing."

Their view shimmered myriad hues of blue accompanied by the familiar whine as the small group beamed down to the Royal Palace of Lady Michelle MacAllen.

They materialized in the middle of the royal rose garden, standing in the middle of cobble stoned circle surrounded by thousands of different colors of roses stretching from the lake far south to the palace in the north. Vanda sneezed as she smelled the wonderful scent of the flowers that drifted on the breeze.

"This is spectacular," Lexana breathed as she looked around her. "This place is wonderful! It almost feels like home."

"Wait until sunset when the twin moons rise," Enrique said. "You've never seen anything like it." He looked at Lexana and the broad smile on her face. He didn't know her very well, but from what he heard she'd never really had a home.

"Speak for yourself," Vanda said as she sneezed again. "All this pollen is giving me hayfever!" The Andorian clearly wasn't used to the conditions of Betazed. She was wearing a bikini top and a sarong, and they'd hardly been there a few minutes and she was already sweating.

Rose didn't hear a word her friends were saying. She was looking at the robed woman followed by three maidservants that approached them along the garden path. The woman's face was clearly filled with joy at the sight of Rose. She stopped and stood underneath a trestle covered with chameleon roses - their color changed to a brilliant, happy yellow as the Lady Michelle extended her arms to her only daughter.

"Mother!" Rose cried as she ran towards her mother, running into her arms and holding her tight. The maidservants stepped back and bowed as mother and daughter were reunited.

[I'm so happy to see you, my child] her mother spoke in her mind as she held Rose in her arms. [I missed you.] There was an uncomfortable silence as Rose began to cry into her mother's arms, and the roses above them changed to a sad, anguished purple color.

"Something's wrong with her," Vanda said, cooling herself with a delicate fan she'd brought along. The maidservants approached them and took their cases, leading them in the direction of the Palace and leaving Rose and Lady Michelle by themselves. "Look how pale she is. I'm not an expert on chameleon roses, but if I remember correctly, purple isn't supposed to be very good."

Enrique nodded. "It's probably this whole business with William. It took a lot out of her. I don't know if I'd have been able to cope with everything she's been through."

As they walked off towards the palace, Lexana looked back at Rose. She knew what was going on. She'd been there before, more than once. She knew the signs. She knew the emotions. She knew Rose had bulimia.

Rose and her mother were left alone, and they walked towards a small veranda in the massive garden.

[It's lovely to have you back home, if only for a little while] Her mother said, linking her arm with Rose's. [I heard about what happened with William. How are you feeling?]

[Scared] was the reply. [I just want him to get out of my life. I really hope the police get him and put him away for good.]

[I'm sure they will. The planet is well secured, and they wouldn't allow him access. But enough of that for now. How is life on the Galaxy treating you?]

[Oh, I really like it there. I didn't have much friends at first, but now everyone seems to like me. Besides, Enrique and Vanda are there, so I have people to talk to.] Rose had thought about telling her mother about LtCmdr Genestra, but she was still a little embarrassed about the incident. [Have you gotten a gift yet for the Crown Prince's wedding?]

[Of course, darling. I am always prepared. But the gift is a secret. I can't tell you just yet.] Lady Michelle smiled at her daughter. She was wondering to herself when Rose would meet a man and get married, but decided not to press the issue. Maybe it was too soon for her yet. [Would you like some tea?]

"Yes please," Rose replied, speaking out loud and calling to one of the maidservants.

*** A few hours later at the Royal Palace ***

Lexana and Enrique sat aside the pool located outside the Seventh Wing of the Royal Palace: the guest wing where all the luxurious quarters were where VIP's and other important people stayed. Lexana was basking in the sun and enjoying every second of it - Enrique was glad to see her happy. Vanda swam around in the pool, cooling off in the heat of the sun.

"So, are we looking forward to the wedding?" Enrique asked.

"Pff!" Lexana snorted. "Too bad I'm security, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered going. I'm not a big Casey fan."

Enrique raised and eyebrow as Vanda splashed around in the pool. "Everyone hates the most popular girl in the Academy, Enrique. Alexa didn't exactly make it a secret how she felt about Lexana either. Remember the whole Cadet Fifi business?" Vanda looked at Lexana. "I'm surprised that never happened between you and Alexa."

"I've never really met Alexa," Enrique responded nonchalantly. "She was two years ahead of us anyway. Besides, that was the Academy, this is now. I'm sure she's all right if you don't mix in her business. After all, it's not like she's going to be Empress one day."

"Are you sure you don't want to swim?" Vanda asked them, swimming to the side of the pool and leaning her arms on the edge, hoping to change the topic. She swayed her shoulders to the addictive salsa music playing in the background.

"No thank you," Enrique said, standing up and extending his hand to Lexana. "Care to dance?"

"Oh yes," she replied, standing up and taking Enrique's hand. The two started dancing around the side of the pool, swaying to the irresistible rhythms and laughing all the way. Vanda suddenly reached out of the pool and grabbed Enrique's leg, pulling him and Lexana into the water. There was a huge splash and water ended up everywhere. Birds fluttered out of the trees above them and muktok blossoms chimed merrily while they laughed and splashed around in the water.

*** The evening at dinner ***

Rose wore a short, elegant red dress when she came down to dinner. The dress was one of her favorites, and it always made her feel more confident. Tomorrow she would have royal duties to perform: visiting a hospital for sick children, delivering a speech about science and archaeology at a nearby college, and then attended a fundraising dinner where she would have to wear a royal red dress and her crown.

After dinner, and a few glasses of wine, Lady Michelle, Vanda and Lexana were talking merrily and laughing at each other's jokes. Rose and Enrique excused themselves and decided to go for a walk down by the river. One moon had already risen high while it's twin peeked out just above the horizon, reflecting in the quiet waters of the lake. Even in the moonlight, Enrique could see how pale and thin Rose was. He was worried about her. They sat down on the beach and stared at the moons for a while.

[So, your royal duties begin tomorrow] Enrique reverted to telepathic speech, looking at her. [Are you sure you're ready, because I know there will be reporters there.]

Rose nodded. [I'll manage. I've done it a hundred times before. It actually makes me feel a little more at home.] She smiled, and for a moment she seemed happy again.

[Rose, I know something is wrong. Is there anything you want to tell me?]

"No," Rose replied, her mind suddenly shutting him out. "It's nothing, really. I don't want to talk about it right now." She breathed deeply and sighed contently. "Just smell the air! Isn't it wonderful? It's not recycled, it's not manufactured, it's REAL! Real air! Breathe, come on."

Rose stood up and dragged Enrique with her. They walked over to the water and let the waves roll over their feet. Rose waved her arms, gesturing for Enrique to breath in.

"In good stuff," she said, breathing deeply, "and out shit! Come on. In good stuff, out shit!"

Enrique started laughing as Rose dramatically breathed deeper. Being home was definitely doing her some good.

"What do you say we go for a swim?" Rose asked, starting to unzip her dress. "For old times sake. You never know when we might get this chance again, and the holodeck just doesn't give the same effect!"

"Why not!" Enrique exclaimed, starting to unbutton his shirt. Clothes flew everywhere as the two best friends jumped in the waves and played in the warm water under the summer night sky. It was good to be with family again.

The Captain's Yacht went into final approach. Rose sat opposite Lucas. Nervous of the main event, she kept looking out the view port as the ground continued to meet them.

"Ready?" She asked as the door slid open.

"All my life," Lucas smiled, enthusiastically.

He stood and disrobed. The sound of the temple gongs rumbled in anticipation of his entrance onto the Grand Hall's inner courtyard.

The serenely pristine columns of the Grand Hall reached up high towards the heavens and all around the Lega Vao (Angel Falls) a fine mist floated up behind the Throne. The morning's red-orange sky filtered through an array of cherry blossoms that filled the air with their sweet smell.

The immeasurable beauty of it all was priceless. The Royal Decorator had lavishly used the most precious of blue silks and cashmeres. A large blue and gold trimmed carpet made its' way from the back camber to the platform where the wedding would take place. Slowly, boldly and full of purpose, Lucas walked into the Hall.

All eyes turned immediately with the symphonic sound of the chamber orchestras. Sounds floating up to the high ceiling of the colonnades. Betazed and the rest of the galaxy was seeing this event live in every media format available.

In the center stage, just before the Cyndrillian crystal throne, Alexa took her place. Her mother followed and her father as well, both proudly displaying their bodies. Many were impressed. The present audience of 3,000 watched in full anticipation of the Prince and future Princess. Before they had been whispering and speaking loudly amongst themselves, but now they fell silent. No one was allowed to enter with clothing and even security was present in his or her Gods given suits. No harmful weapons entered within a three-mile range of the Hall. No intentions were bad, and the telepathic Global Guardsmen were there to make certain of it.

"His Royal Highness," The High Minister of Vov called out in a voice that resonated down the chambers as the architects had designed. With that, the orchestras fell silent, in thanks to each of the Gods, the ceremonial Yuan Chimes were struck three times. "Son of the First House.Keeper of Pali's Peace, Holder of the Sacred Scrolls of Zed. Ruler of the RaRazed, Master of the Betazed Chalice." In true royal style, each name and title was called out and with it, Lucas moved forward.

At reaching the first royal guard on the long walk up to the stage, the soldier drew his blade that had been at his side and called out, "Zea Toa!" At the signal all other royal guards drew their blades and raised them high for Lucas to walk under. Half way stood his father, Dr. Jonathan G. Brandis, a dignified and obviously proud man. His smile showed Lucas that he more than approved. Holding out his hand as if to stop Lucas from getting married, Dr. Brandis called out, "Know all men by their deeds and by the promises that they do not keep. From Castles of sand to Kingdoms of great worth, this decision will be forever." Gently but firmly, Lucas pushed passed him in a sign of respect and growth.

Counsellor Dallas, who had been next to the High Minister of Vov moved to the seat where Alexa sat. "I summon you to the place of marriage!" She stated firmly as if giving an order.

In a voice that was sweetly soft spoken, Alexa responded in kind, "I go to that place, seeking only to please and be pleased. Love is Eternal."

They arrived before the High Minister together, taking each other's hand they stood before the massive altars.

It was then that the others in the wedding party stood next to the Bride and Groom. Deiran Casey stood next to Lucas. He couldn't believe that so many people were naked. Here he was, in his sister's intergalactic wedding, baring all. It had been rumored that Deiran had a lot to bare, and indeed the women had been correct. Many of the women in the Hall were impressed, there was more to Deiran that would be legendary than just his tactical maneuvers and fearsome battle prowess.

Deanna Troi was here at the wedding and had even snuck a peak at him. Deiran couldn't help but take a look at her. As he had a crush on her when he was in the Academy and remembered seeing her several times while he was in attendance, clothed of course. He remembered that her eyes always seemed to mesmerize him. So here Deiran was, at his beloved sister's wedding, thinking of seeing Deanna Troi naked, trying to forget that his mother was naked and desperately wanting to take Michala out of the hall and run into the forest just as they were and make beautiful passionate love to her. It dawned on him that many of the people in this sanctuary were telepathic and he stopped the thoughts and tried to focus on the ceremony. It was not easy. 3,000 naked people made it difficult to concentrate, even for the Iceman.

Just as many people were impressed with how gorgeous the Princess was. Alexa was beautiful in form, appearance and character and it shined forth like the bright sun shining through the windows of the hall. She had been working out for months on end and her body could not have been in any better shape for the biggest and most important event in her life. Once the clothes fell to the floor before she entered the Hall, all of the anxiety and fear fell away and she concentrated on being joined to Lucas for the rest of her life.

This was truly the most momentous occasion in her life. All the people she loved were here for her, and the most important people in the Federation were here as well.

She was proud of Anika, the girl turned purple when she realized there was no dress for her to wear and she'd have to disrobe before 3,000 gaukers. But, Anika finally agreed out of love for her friend. Even though Alexa thought she was going to have to drag her down the aisle for awhile there.

The most important part of all of this was that she was dedicating all that she was and possessed to the man she loved. And there was nothing that she would not do for him. Even stand naked before 3,000 people with her ass facing them as she began to take her vows. That is how much Alexa loved this man. Because it was a miracle that she even had the courage to stand here, next to him, naked as a newborn babe.

She also thought how the men in her family were making quite an impression on the attendees. She had to stifle a giggle as Karyn saw how huge Dee was. Looking at Tom Casey, it seemed to be a family trait. She didn't care about that though, but the looks on people's faces were priceless. Few would ever forget this moment, not just because of the wedding, but because the wide eyes that would seemingly appear from nowhere when a Casey male walked by in their birthday suit. Indeed over twelve Casey males were in the Hall.

Alexa was trying not to laugh but she let out a giggle, Karyn's look was just so priceless. She placed her left hand over her mouth, nodded to her love and to the minister and waited for the next ceremonial traditions to begin.

Dr. Brooke O'Connell, MD
and
LCDR Tim O'Connell, Security

Brooke was called in to do an autopsy. She wasn't aware that this person was the victim Tim was investigating the death of until she saw the padd with the name on it. She hated doing autopsies but no one else was able to do it. She was all set up to go, waiting for the body to be brought to her.

While the body was wheeled in Tim walked in as well, "Hi Brooke."

"Tim, what are you doing here?" She was surprised. It was unusual but not unheard of for the investigator to be there during an autopsy.

"I'm here for the autopsy, lead investigator attends, it's in the book, and I'm running this one by the book."

She shrugged, "Okay but I warn you, it isn't fun. When did you eat last?"

"About 30 minutes ago." Tim said, "why?"

"No reason." She just hoped that he could stomach it. She pulled up a tray of tools of the trade, "Computer, start recording. Stardate 53625.65, victim, Ensign Kiley." She examined the body first, "Stabwound to the heart, one inch in diameter. No other visible wounds to the body." She grabbed the exoscalpel and started to open her up. She cut through the skin and then the chest cavity. As blood flowed out, she looked over at Tim to see if he was going to hurl or pass out.

He didn't, keeping a neutral expression he noticed, but he was getting green around the gills.

Brooke smiled a little and continued, "With this amount of blood in her chest cavity, it can only be assumed that her death was immediate. Upon further examination of the wound site, I have found that it hit both the aorta and the pulmonary artery to the left lung...cutting through both and completely severing them. Even if the medics were able to get to her, they could not have helped her." She continued to examine the body, checking the liver, kidneys and then the stomach cavity. She cut through it and again lokked over at Tim. The smell was really bad. Most people would be running out of the room with their hand over their mouth.

It was sort of a contest of wills with the 2 of them, "what's the stomach contents?"

"Stomach cavity shows that victim hadn't eaten anything the last four hours but the alcohol levels in her blood stream show that she did have at least one glass of wine. Stomach contents are inconclusive of anything else. I have found no abnormalities either." She took the autosuture and closed up the body.

Tim stepped back, "Any sexual activity, either pre or post mortem?" he asked her

"I see no evidence of that either. She could have just been relaxing with a glass of wine but don't quote me on that."

"Ok, I know Lt Sanchez caught a shower peeper a while back, and she was killed in a state of undress, so there was some theories that this was a sexual attack."

"I don't see that as a possibility. There were no bruising, mottling or any signs of struggle. If it was a sexual attack, she would have some bruising on the inner thighs, and bruises on her wrist. There is no sign of recent sexual intercourse of any kind either. I don't think that she was even aware of her murderer."

Tim nodded, "any idea what made those wounds?"

"A very sharp knife, about an inch in diameter. The angle of the knife wound suggests that she was snuck up from behind and stabbed her."

Tim nodded, "we'll begin running a search through forensic databases." They walked out together, as a technician covered the body and moved her to the morgue, "I'll have to confirm with Peter Lockhart about the shower peeper being a dead end."

"Okay, might be a good idea." She was dying to know if Tim had felt ill at any point of the autopsy. "Was this your first autopsy?"

"Yeah, no offense but I'm not attending another one."

She laughed, "And I was going to ask you to assist with the next one."

Tim laughed, "I don't think I'll be helping."{

She could see that he didn't share her love of forensic science. "Aww, too bad. We'd nmake such a great team."

"I'd be the one barfing in the corner."

"You didn't this time. I am really proud of you for not barfing in the sickbay." She was going to remember this forever.

Tim smiled, "good we agree." He leaned over and kissed her once, "what do you say to dinner?"

"Dinner? After this autopsy, I figured that you wouldn't want to eat."

Tim smiled, "you only have one dinner."

"Okay, point taken." She put her arm in his and continued to walk with him.

Tim smiled and kissed her gently, "where to?"

Smiling back, "10 forward. It seems like ages since I have eaten there. In fact, it's been a long time since we've eaten together."

"It's been too long." Tim agreed, besides we got a move to plan."

"Oh yeah, don't remind me. I have so much to do. I wasn't planning to do this autopsy but it somehow fell onto my lap."

"I'm sorry, can I help you with anything."

"Not really. I'm leaving Liam in the daycare so I can get everything packed and ready."

"I'll help you, but...." he leaned in and whispered, "that white lace thing........leave it out."

She shook her head, "You are so funny sometimes."

They walked in to 10 foreward and were seated in a table. "whatever you want.....on me."

She ordered her food, kidding around with the waiter, "I'd like chicken kiev and forget the plate, my husband here says its on him." The waiter didn't laugh, "Gee, no sense of humor, do you?" Okay, she knew it was an awful joke but it didn't matter.

Tim smirked, "Nice try." He ordered a Turkey Sandwich with fries and a cola.

"I never claimed to be a commedian. So, what are you going to do next in this case? The killer is still out running around this ship."

"Forensics, witnesses, and we're going to find him, I'm also going to talk to other starhsip security chiefs and we're going to see what's going on."

"Well, I hope the autopsy helps you out some."

TIm nodded, "Me too, it answers some questions I had and can put a couple of the theories to rest."

"Good. Then it was worth seeing you turn green." The food came and she began to eat.

"I wasn't that green."

"No, just a tad. It's okay to admit it turned your stomach. I passed out the first time I ever attended one. Then when I came to, I threw up all over the teacher."

"Ok I was green. I almost passed out."

She teased, "What was that? I'm afraid I didn't quite hear you."

"You know what I said, and if you make me repeat it, I'll send thos pictures we took on our honeymoon, out to the crew."

"You wouldn't. Wait, what do I care. I won't be here much longer. Go ahead." She wasn't going to let him win this one."

Tim smirked, "I wouldn't dare. You'd kick my ass."

"You know better than anyone else." She shook her head and went back to finishing her meal.

Then they went back to their meal, he nibbled slightly and they talked, "so have you gotten any info on this starbase?"

"No. Who's had time?"

"Ok that's true."

"I don't care really either. I just want to get there as soon as this case is solved."

"Me too. I don't want this guy to be free on my ship."

"You'll catch him, don't worry."

"Thanks." Tim smiled and took her hand, no matter how bad this got as long as he had his family, all would be good.

"Promotions"
by, Lt. Comdr. Raesene Hermedhie,
Chief Tactical Officer
-------------------------------------

Today was a good day. They had arrived above Betazed, and had rendeavouzed with over forty seperate warships. Included in that number was a small Excelsior-class starship named Arizona, recently commissioned from Beta Two Babylon Shipyards from a stache of warships found in the hands of a Ferengi. The details were such to be amazing, but things had never been quite normal around that locale.

But the most important detail about this new ship was the fact that it was without two key positions. Chief and Assistant Chief Tactical Officer. And two of the Galaxy's own had been selected to fill in those slots. Raesene was en route to give them the news.

He first stopped at the quarters of Lt. {j.g.) Kamin, who would be an interesting Senior Officer. "Sir," he said, answering the summons.

"Kamin, I wished to talk to you personally. Orders have come in, and you are the focus of them. You are hearby promoted to Lieutenant, Senior Grade, and reassigned to the U.S.S. Arizona as Assistant Chief Tactical Officer."

Kamin paused for a second, then said, "Thank you, sir. I will do my best to serve the Federation logically in the position."

Raesene smiled. ~Vulcans!~ he thought. "I'm sure you will. You are to report for duty on board the Arizaona following the wedding on Betazed. Sorry to see you go so quickly, but those are the orders."

"They are quite logical, sir. I will be ready by then." After a few more words, the two broke up, as Raesene still had to talk to the new Chief.

His next stop was to the quarters of an old, friendly face. Lieutenant Winston Groom had been a rock in the Tactical Department since before Raesene had been aboard. Now he was moving on. It was finally time for him to go.

Buzzing his prescence, Raesene waited for the response. When it came, Lt. Groom was surprised to see his Chief. "Sir?"

"May I come in, Winston? I have something that needs your attention," Raesene smiled solemnly.

"Of course. Of course, sir." Groom stood aside to let Raesene in. "What seems to be the problem?"

"No problem, Winston. You are hearby promoted to Lieutenant Commander, and ordered to take the position of Chief Tactical Officer of the U.S.S. Arizona. Effective immediately. You are to report for duty after the wedding."

Groom was shocked. "Taht's amazing. I thought I'd never get another promotion. Thank you, sir. Thank you."

"You're welcome, Winston. I'm sure you'll do fine. We will have a short party for you at 1200 tomorrow." They talked for a short while more, then it was time for Raesene to go on duty. It would be uneventful, but a good time to think. About two Galaxys going on to the Arizona.

"Hard to stay focused"
by Captain Robert Edward Lee Price

*** Grand Hall Lega Vao, Betazed ***

Captain Price shifted his weight from his left to his right leg as the wedding ceremony began. It was a festive, elaborate affair; the wedding of the First Prince of Betazed. Lee was impressed at the professionalism and calmness of everyone in attendance. He wasn't sure if that was because the majority of them were Betazoid, natural telepaths that could easily perceive thoughts and emotions of others around them, or that everyone in attendance was naked as a jay bird. When one was naked, and surrounded by naked telepaths, it tends to keep your mind focused on the business at hand. Regardless, everyone seemed to be paying extra special attention to the wedding party, and the Bride and Groom in particular, as the ceremony commenced.

Somehow, when the actual event began that the Captain was dreading because of the requirement to attend naked, a strange calm had over taken him. Now that the stress of baring all was practically over, Lee's mind drifted not to the thousands of naked guests at the wedding, or even of the vows Jonathan and Alexa were exchanging. No, the Captain's mind was on the recent events on board the Galaxy, and the murder of Ensign Kiley. There had been deaths before on the Galaxy. The Dominion war had seen many casualties. The Captain had even sent men and women on dangerous missions in which they lost their life. But this was different. Never before had a crew member on board the General's ship simply been murdered for no apparent reason. It meant that someone on the crew was a murderer, and either had a vendetta against this one Ensign, or worse, was killing people at random. Whatever the motive, Lee would feel much better once Security had the culprit safely apprehended where he or she could not harm anyone else.

Lee watched, bringing his thoughts back to the wedding, as the matrimony couple began lighting white candles and reciting more of the ancient Betazoid traditional texts. There was almost a dramatic, play like quality to the "performance" of a traditional Betazoid wedding that was interesting to watch. Captain Price had attended a few human weddings before. He'd even conducted a couple on board the USS Galaxy as her ship's Captain. But he found this Betazoid wedding, and one of the Royal family, to be most unique.

Once again the Captain's thoughts drifted from the ceremony to matters of the Galaxy. Doctor Gakor had been kind enough to volunteer to cover the Command watch on the bridge so that Captain Price could attend the ceremony today. Lee was sure Endris would do a fine job looking over things for the next several hours. Maintaining a standard orbit around Betazed was not exactly taxing the Tellarite's many talents.

Then there was the science mission Lieutenant Commanders Sullax and Genestra had arranged. Taking advantage of the Galaxy's commitment to remain with the Starfleet diplomatic envoy in orbit of Betazed, the Science department chiefs arranged a small expedition to the near by system in order to conduct some scientific research and collect data. Lee was happy to give his approval of the mission, but still couldn't help but wonder if it wasn't just a convenient excuse to avoid having to attend a traditional Betazoid wedding. . .

Again the Captain shifted his weight from the right leg back to the left. His hands, like most of the hands of the gentlemen in attendance, were humbly clasp in front of himself. As the ceremony continued on, Lee wondered just how much longer it would be before Jonathan and Alexa would be pronounced man and wife so that everyone could go to the reception and put on some clothes.

"Late Attendance"

Ensign Adrian An'quinsos

Zerhi No'hisyndiosyn (NPC)
Gailyn's sister

Jaina Norana (NPC)
Adrian's sister

****Holodeck 2****

"Computer, run program The Joran Onari Falls."

'Program ready, enter when ready.'

"How did you?"

"Shhh." He replied with a smile.

The El-Aurians entered the Holodeck amidst a spectacular seen of lights and water. The water gently fell from the Crystal cliffs into the river below. Each drop that fell glowed, producing a halo of color that formed a beautiful rainbow for the beholder. To two El-Aurians appeared to be in awe at the beauty of the light spectacle before them.

"And I've just begun." He smiled. The El-Aurian youth reached into his pocket and pulled out an object. Opening his palm, he revealed a golden necklace with a pear-shaped transparent stone suspended on it.

"An El-Aurian Star Jewel!" She gasped.

Adrian nodded as he gracefully put it on her. After a few moments the stone began to glow softly with the colors of the rainbow, and every color in between.

"I found it when I fist arrived on Earth. An El-Aurian trader gave it to me as a favor owed to my mother." Adrian paused, smiling at the gift. "It's said that when the stone lights up..."

Adrian's words drifted away as they kissed. After a several seconds, the El-Aurian stopped abruptly, as a look of shock permeated his face.

"Oh no! My sister, she's suppose to meet me at my quarters!"

"The wedding!" Zerhi exclaimed.

The two humanoids raced of the Holodeck, shutting off the program as they swiftly exited, making a dive for the nearest turbolift...

****Exterior of Adrian's Quarters****

Jaina stood at the door with crossed arms. She wore a series of beautiful Amethyst robes with gold writing, with her long strawberry blonde hair up, held by two ebony chopsticks. She gave many on-lookers an eye-full, as many stared at the gorgeous El-Aurian female in her exotic garb.

[Where in the Four Quadrants is he!] She replied irritantly in her native tongue.

[I'm right here sis!]

The El-Aurian female turned her head to see two youths raced toward her direction, panting as they headed down the corridor and to the spot where Jaina stood.

[Sorry Jaina... we kind of lost track of time!]

[Coming from an El-Aurian that sounds like a whopper!] She laughed.

Entering his quarters, Jaina glanced at Zerhi for the first time and hid her large smile.

"My apologies." He said, slipping back into Federation standard. "This is the beautiful Zerhi No'hisyndiosyn. Zerhi, this is my sometimes serious but always crazy sister Jaina. If you'll excuse me, I've got to grab a bag before we head down to the planet."

"Jaina, it's nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you to! Adrian's told me so much about you…" Her smile

quickly surfaced. "And to be honest, he wasn't exaggerating!"

"Oh?" She replied with interest and a smile.

"I'd hate to interrupt the two of you," Adrian replied. "But we have a wedding to attend."

**** Outside the Grand Hall Lega Vao, Betazed ****

"Let me guess… disrobe and enter?"

"Hopefully no one will notice three nude El-Aurians enter in the back!"

[This is a little uncomfortable!]

[How so? You attended Kailen's wedding and several of your friends in 'Traditional Betazoid.'] She chided.

The El-Aurian male disrobed quickly, revealing a body that put Michaelangelo's David to shame. His tall, god-like body along with his handsome looks had even his girlfriend looking several moments. He blushed with a furrowed look, as his deep blue eyes turned darker. After over 900 years, Jaina walked in confidently. She looked about as old as mid twenties super model. And, with her hair down, Adrian was almost reminded of the Lady Godiva! Zerhi however, looked even more stunning, though Adrian would have preferred her clothed!

[I can't wait for the reception!] He whispery chimed to both women as they made their ways to the seats.

[Don't worry, by the looks of things, it appears to be nearing an end.]

'If I ever get married.' The El-Aurian thought. 'It'll definitely be a fully traditional El-Aurian wedding!'

"True Love Keeps No Secrets"
Lt. Commander T'Zaq
(perhaps the only person going willingly naked?)

"I don't know about you, Chloe, but I'm going to enjoy this." T'Zaq grinned breathlessly as she finished her last set of crunches. "Just think... maybe thousands of people staring at our lovely feminine forms! I don't know why so many people balk at the opportunity to go to a Betazoid wedding."

The lovely Ensign Scott just chuckled and shook her head from her place on the nearby leg press. "To hear you talk about it, T'Zaq, I'd almost think it was _you_ getting married."

T'Zaq rolled her eyes. "Hey, I can't help it. I love weddings. Such romance, such ceremony... and especially Betazoid weddings. It's been almost 6 years since I attended Aelon and Naomi's union back on Outpost 77, and I am sure ready for another. Saying your vows in the nude is definitely the way to do it, I think." She smiled dreamily, stretching out her legs for a warm-down. "Alexa's a lucky girl, she's going to be a princess. Then again, I guess anything less than royalty isn't good enough for a Casey..."

Chloe groaned and swatted the half-Vulcan with her towel. "Now now, that's no kind of talk to be saying about the bride-to-be. Come on, let's hit the showers, we've all got a big day tomorrow."

----- the big event -----

A large group had beamed down to the planet as the proceedings began, and T'Zaq found herself a bit lost among unfamiliar faces. Chloe was nowhere in sight, and most of T'Zaq's other friends from the Galaxy had begged to excuse themselves from attending the event due to one reason or another, the main one being some sort of made-up rule that married people were never supposed to look upon another naked form. *Well, their loss...* T'Zaq thought to herself as she slipped out of the heavy robe she wore, weaing only her silver-firestone necklace.

The sights, sounds, and smells of the area were pure ecstasy. A cool mist occasionally breezed through, carrying the exotic scent of tropical flora, while the morning sun warmed the air. It was the type of day that would make almost any humanoid glad to be alive - even the usually cynical T'Zaq. She moved lazily with the crowd as they gathered around the crystal platform that would be the center of attention as Alexa and Lucas took their vows.

The crowd was abuzz with conversation as the main event had not yet begun. T'Zaq peered out over the crowd, again trying to locate anyone familiar at all, but to no avail. She did pick up a few appreciative stares from nearby strangers, but attempted not to make eye contact. It was hard enough being in a huge amphitheatre full of mostly telepaths, with all the psionic noise, but being naked and trying not to flirt was a difficult task indeed.

Thankfully, the sounding of the orchestra saved T'Zaq from further embarassing herself, by turning all eyes up toward the front as the couple-to-be took their places. A collective wistful sigh, courtesy of most of the female population, ensued as Alexa took her place on the throne. T'Zaq grinned amusedly and gazed with rapt attention at the ceremony about to begin.

A Joint Post
Shinta
Miran

The food was ignored, once again. Miran looked around. She was bored, but afraid to leave the quarters. She spotted the doll on the couch. It had been disregarded there when Shinta brought out the ball.

"Shinta said I could brush your hair," she spoke to the doll. She took a seat on the floor.

She started to gather a lock of hair to brush it out, a bow around her fingers to slip on it. It was then a sharp pain lanced through her head starting from the right temple as she saw herself doing the same to a child sitting in front of her. She cried out, the doll falling from her grasp. She laid down and curled up into a ball, head between her hands, crying.

Shinta came in a little later, Karyn had last turn to take over Miran her treatment while she was down on the planet. When she saw the women in pain, she rushed over.

Shinta knew her to deal with little children, talking softly and friendly and comforting to Miran she drew her into her arms of, holding her like a little child. "Hush now honey, where does it hurts?"

Miran cursed in Cardassian and then continued, "Head." She then became limp in Shinta's embrace, the crying ceasing.

Shinta held the women, slowly rocking her. She quickly scanned the but there was no immediate medical risk, and she did not want to subjects her to any more strangers. So she just help Miran in her arms, giving the love a mother would and patiently waiting until she would wake up again

When Miran first came back, she was groggy, disoriented, but Shinta held on to her until she calmed down again. Shinta could still see the pain in her eyes but Miran didn't cry anymore. It was as if the life energy had been drained from her.

Shinta helped her to bed knowing that she would need some rest for the pain to completely go away.

"I saw her," Miran whispered. "I loved her."

"Who?" Shinta started to ask but Miran had already closed her eyes to sleep.

"Biding Time"

Lt. (jg) Navarre Shinta
Assistant Chief Counselor

Lt. Commander Karyn Dallas RN
Chief Counselor/Nurse

Lt. (jg) Doctor Kira Murphy
Medical Officer - Pediatrics and General Medicine
USS Galaxy

Gavin finally settled down a little. The child had literally worn himself down. Now he lay whimpering, chest heaving, and eyes big and scared. Shinta did what she could, but she knew it was up to the doctor and the counselor now really. As the mother she could only give what love she could.

Karyn sat with Shinta and Gavin for what seemed like an eternity as they waited to hear if Dr. Murphy's treatment was successful. Just a few minutes ago Gavin had stopped laughing at the dancing starfish and funny stuffed animals simply because he was exhausted. His illness and his anxiety had zapped what little strength he had. Karyn could tell Gavin wanted to sleep, but she could also tell she was fighting sleep because he was afraid.

In the meantime, Karyn tried to calm him with funny stories as well as telling him what a brave boy he was. Shinta, though exhausted herself, was doing her best to cheer her son up. Karyn kept one eye on the toxin filter, which looked like it was doing the trick, but Karyn didn't want to get Gavin or Shinta's hopes up until Kira could tell them for sure. The whole process would take a couple hours at least so until that time was up, all either of them could do was hope and pray.

Karyn admired Shinta for being so incredibly strong through the whole ordeal. Her tears only coming after struggling so long with this. Karyn wondered if Shinta felt as much bitterness and anger toward Jake as Karyn would if she was in Shinta's position. After all, Jake had abandoned her and left her to handle all the difficult situations alone.

Karyn looked to Shinta and gave her a smile of reassurance, just as Dr. Murphy came in with the latest test results.

Looking up from her padd, Kira walked over to Mieke and sat down next to her, "At the moment, the filter is keeping Gavin at a stable and safe level. However, it is not treating the cause. We just need to find what is the problem and work on that. I'm going to talk to Dr Gakor and get access to some specialists knowledge on immunology with Human & Bajoran children. If we have to, Betazed may have some experts as well and there is always subspace channels to Bajor and Earth. Gavin will get through this, ok?"

Shinta nodded, "Thank you Dr.. Can I've take him home?"

Kira smiled, "Sure. He will need to keep the filter on though. At the moment, I think he is too weak to walk and I don't want to risk the transporter. I will arrange for a big enough anti-grav to carry him after we padd it and you can take him home."

Karyn emerged from Michael's room and couldn't help but hear Dr. Murphy talking. "I could carry him on my lap if you want. It might be less frightening for him than a big anti-grav stretcher. I am just one big, very cool, personnel shuttlecraft to all the kids. Really, it'd be no trouble." Karyn smiled, grateful her "uniqueness" could be helpful instead of a hinderance on some occasions.

Kira nodded, "That sounds like a very good idea if it is okay with Shinta. Just be careful not to damage him. These filters are pretty robust but I don't want to push it that far."

"Tell me how to take care of him Doctor. Thank you for all your help so far."

Turning to the bajoran woman, Kira replied, "There isn't too much to it. He will need to wear the filter as a belt until we cure him. It is waterproof, bumpproof and hopefully Gavin-proof. A transponder in the belt continually sends signals to the computer to give us an update of his condition. If the signal wavers outside of a fairly strict range or stops, alerts will be going off here and someone will be there as soon as possible. If you want to talk about anything or are worried, come in or bring him here."

Shinta smiled slightly at the doctors jokes. Thank you doctor, I will to take good care of him. She tenderly looked at the boy.

add-on by Lt(jg) Eric Odin

Eric stood in the crowd and looked to Anika who ahd invited him to this wedding and smiled pleasantly. He looked only to Anika and was very happy that she had invited him along. Instead of looking to her body he stared at her face. He wasn't sure if she noticed, but he didn't care. He jus wanted to enjoy being around her soem more and he was also happy to for the couple who were being wed.

***Albrecht Family Quarters, USS Galaxy***

Doctor Endris Gakor-Albrecht stood before the full-length mirror beside their small double bed. She was pinning her pips on a new tunic and wanted to be sure they were aligned properly. Matthew watched and thought for the thousandth time how young they both were to be lieutenant commanders and share responsibility for the lives of over a thousand people.

Just watching the simple act of pinning on a half-pip started Matthew down a thought path that had consumed far too much of his attention lately...

"Hope you have fun exploring Betazed with Adam!" Endris said, interrupting Matthew's dark thought.

He looked up, "Hm? Oh, yes. As soon as he wakes up, we're going on a little adventure!" he said with conjured enthusiasm.

Gakes put a hand softly on his chest, the fine blonde hairs on the back of her hand reflected the light that shone down in front of the mirror. "You're not fooling me, Muffin. You will feel a lot better once your parents get here." She smiled, "Just wait until they see how much Adam Delorbius has grown!"

Matthew clasped her hand between his own and looked her in the eye. "Don't you worry about me, hon. I'll be right as rain soon enough. But are you sure you want to serve bridge watch during the wedding? There are a lot of dignitaries anxious to meet the woman who conquered Teresi," he pointed out truthfully.

"I'll make my appearances before the wedding, dear. Snacks! You don't think anyone would pay attention to me on the royal wedding day, do you?" she demanded playfully.

He raised an eyebrow and smiled sincerely. "I've seen you in your 'wedding outfit' love. You are definitely an attention-getter!"

She kissed him vigorously and theatrically. "That reminds me! I'm famished..." she said, looking around for a quick bite. On the way out of their rooms she snatched a large pear from the bowl next to the door. He heard the soft snap of her teeth breaking off a bite as the door slid shut behind her.

"Computer," Matthew said, "dim lights to ten percent normal." He sat down on the floor where he had been standing. His head dropped slowly into his hands.

***The next day. Guardian City, Betazed***

Memorial Park was every bit as clean and polished-looking as it was before the Dominion occupation. Native Joy Birds entertained passers-by with aerobatic tricks and beautiful songs. It was said that the birds were sensitive to emotion, and attempted to bring joy to others so that they might enjoy twice the joy themselves. It was also said that during the occupation, many Joy Birds perished of sorrow.

The great fountain on the North end of the park was an ideal meeting place, and boasted some native life of its own. Brightly colored Betapouches floated at the bottom of the fountain exploring the spectrum of colors in a specific, precise order. Occasionally one would break the surface of the water to feel the fountain's falling droplets on its vari-colored skin.

Margaret Albrecht held the hand of her husband, Bill. She was perfectly poised, as one might expect from a teacher of etiquette. Her dress was carefully chosen to match the season on Betazed and the popular style in the highest circles of Betazed and the quadrant at large.

She also wore a beautiful decorative bracelet given to her by her good friend Catherine Genestra just that morning as they met at the shuttle. She lifted her wrist to get another look at the stunning jewelry. It had been far too long since they had broken fast together, so the two couples enjoyed a meal and caught up on all the details of their time apart.

"Isn't it remarkable that Catherine's baby boy is serving on the Galaxy along with Matthew?" she asked rhetorically.

Bill grunted softly, "Devinoni is no baby. He's several years older than our son, Margaret." The Terran Ambassador to Tellar brightened and said, "Perhaps Evin can give us a clue about what's bothering Matthew so much."

She tugged on his hand gently. "It's not polite to pry, dear," she explained to her husband. But he could tell by her behavior that she was just as concerned as he was.

"Damn it, we're his parents!" Bill exclaimed. "It's been a month since he wrote or subspaced. We've only communicated with Endris, thank the gods for her!"

Margaret looked around in anticipation. "He should be here soon. Let's give him a chance to explain himself. It could be nothing," she rationalized.

"It would have to be 'nothing' Margaret," he quipped, "because NOTHING would make our son ignore our attempts to contact him for three weeks."

***Across the plaza***

Matthew watched his parents talk next to the grand fountain. He felt a hollow pit in his stomach at the thought of meeting with them. Matthew loved his parents and was unfamiliar with the sense of dread that was overpowering him.

What was it? It was shame.

Lt. Jake T. Olson
USS Galaxy
Galaxy 10-4

Jake Olson didn't attend the wedding, all knew that one parent had to stay with Bud. Others guessed with great accuracy. Jake Olson still had a blushing problem, and despite the fact that from the neck up he was a grown and mature man, he suffered the malady of young adolescents from the waist down. He was terrified that he would disgrace himself.

He sent a snowball as a gift, and baby pictures to the Queen of Betazed herself. While she accepted the need of a parent to stay with his child and the pending away mission, she couldn't help but chuckle at the unspoken reason for Jake's absence.

Jake threw himself into the business of getting ready for the away mission.

"Transport in a wheelchair"
by Lt Jg. Kira Murphy, Medical (General & Paediatrics)
and Lt Jg. Brightspot to-Srallansre, Security
------------------------------------------------------------

Pushing off from the wall, Kira flew through the room and caught her struggling Sivaoan friend, Brightspot, who had just started a very ungraceful spin after not remebering that gravity was off.

Fooey had quickly retreated into the bathroom after the terrified howling and screeching woke her.

When Brightspot had stabilised and was clinging to the table with claws, Kira giggled and headed to the door.

Sitting outside was a specially requisitioned anti-gravity based plasma-powered wheelchair.

Brightspot moved to her and put a paw on Kira's shoulder,

"Are you sure you want to do this? Nobody will make you feel bad if you wear the suit. I'm gonna be in clothes."

Shaking her head resoutly, Kira turned and stepped backwards out into gravity. Brightspot helped her into the chair as she tried to fight the panic that raced into her - all thanks to recent experiences with Trelane.

A few minutes later, she settled and patted Brightspot's tail,

"I'm ready."

Brightspot stepped out into the corridor and let the door close behind her.

***************************

Arriving at the beam-down site safely, Kira set the wheelchair to move forwards as Brightspot stepped down.

The Betazoid transporter operator smiled to them as they left the area.

Walking up to the queue for entery, the pair waited until it was their turn.

Security guards scanned Kira's wheelchair, finding it safe, and decided to let them in without any comment on Brightspot wearing clothes and built-in claws, despite heavy influence coming down from the royal family about not wearing clothing.

Kira giggle when Brightspot spoke,

"It ain't like they can just rip out my claws."

Once inside, they were directed over to a section where other crewmembers from the Galaxy were already seated.

Looking around, Kira tried not to smirk at how people were reacting.

"Long Road Home"
Lieutenant Junior Grade John Xavier

John sat in the cockpit of one of the shuttles looking out into space, he was at warp speed but he didn't know where he was going, then the shuttle exploded.

John woke up, he was still in a shuttle, another officer had shook him awake.

"What'd you have to go and do that for?" John said sounding very grumpy.

"You're off duty sir, you have been for an hour."

"I know, that's why I was sleeping." John said standing up and heading out from the shuttle.

"I thought you might want to go to your quarters and sleep there, it'd be more comfortable."

"Yeah whatever." John jogged to the nearest turbolift and went home.

Based on STAR TREK created by Gene Roddenberry
Story by Lieutenant Commander Ethan Suder - Chief Engineer

"Tradition"

So here he was, him and three thousand other people. This was the first time Ethan had set foot on the planet since the Dominion had left. Things were better then he thought they would have been. He had also heard that the planet was in a state. He just guessed that they had a last minute rush around trying to tidy things for the wedding.

Surprisingly, a lot of people were at this wedding in the old Betazoid tradition. Not clothes in the slightest. Ethan found it odd that all the non-Betazoids would be naked at this wedding. For two reasons, A, no one would like to be seen naked in front of this many people, and B, it wasn't their tradition. But still, they were doing this as a sign of respect. Being Betazoid himself and having a large amount of respect for the planet and it's traditions, he too was not clothed. Not the best situation he'd like to be in, seeing as quite a few people that he knew were there. A lot of the crew from the Galaxy and the Enterprise.

"How do you do it?" someone asked.

Ethan turned slightly and looked at the officer who had questioned him. Suder didn't know this individual and found it weird that she was asking him of all the Betazoids here.

"Do what?" he replied as if having no idea.

"Stand there like it was just another day in Engineering?"

Ethan looked around for a second trying to recall this woman. She was obviously part of the Engineering team on the Galaxy. "Why do different species have weddings in different ways?" Suder replied using other species as an example. "It's just tradition. I've done it before, I'll probably do it again. It's just what Betazoids do."

"You know some of us will never look at you in the same way in Engineering." she joked.

"I should hope you would have a better opinion after today." Suder joked back.

"There were a few giggles between the Engineers. It didn't take long for a couple of other Engineers to make a friendly joke to the both of them. That's all it was, fun and games. Ethan would get the score settled.

OOC: takes place before the royal wedding.

"Nothing But The Truth"

Lt. Commander Karyn Dallas RN
Chief Counselor/Nurse

Lt. (jg) Shinta Navarre
Assistant Chief Counselor
USS Galaxy

Karyn sighed and wondered how Shinta was doing trying to convince her son to visit Karyn. She hoped Shinta was prepared to answer her son's questions about his Dad. He had overhead the last fight his parents had ever had. Jake Simpson had told Shinta he wished Gavin had never been born, and Gavin had heard him.

After Gavin's recent health crisis, his questions about his Dad became more frequent, even angry. He demanded to know why his father never came to see him when he was ill and Shinta, worn out and angry after struggling alone for so many years, had no easy answers. Shinta felt it was important to deal with these issues as soon as possible, and as he was in relatively better health, she wanted him to speak with someone now. So she'd gone to Karyn in the hope that together she and Shinta could finally share a painful portion of the past. It wasn't going to be easy.

To Jake Simpson, Gavin was a public embarrassment he wished would just disappear. Lt. Commander Jake Simpson was a married man, and when he became romantically involved with the then enlisted Shinta, he promised to take care of her and help her become an officer. When Shinta became pregnant with Gavin, Jake had dumped her without another thought and treated Shinta as though she didn't exist. Shinta was worried about Gavin now that she knew he had heard what his father said. They both needed help to get over the past so that they could move on into the future.

***Shinta's quarters***

"But mum, I don't want to go and talk to your boss!" Gavin said.

"Be polite young man." Shinta said. "I want you to have a chat with Commander Dallas about things that are hard for me to talk to you about."

He really did not understand at all. "Mum!" he wailed.

"No buts, Gav, we are going!"

***Karyn's Office***

So it was not a happy couple that walked into the Chief Counselor's office a little later. Gavin gave the commander a very sullen look.

"Tough room." muttered Karyn as she escorted both Gavin and Shinta into her office. Shinta looked annoyed and so did Gavin. "This must be the young man I've heard so much about. Hello, Gavin, do you want to sit here on this couch next to your mom?" Karyn indicated the lavender overstuffed couch against the far wall of her office.

"I wanna go home." Gavin pouted.

"How about something to drink? I can get you anything you want. Personally I think you look like a Scotch man. Are you interested?" Karyn asked, completely deadpanned.

That brought a sparkle of interest and then he frowned again. "Mum would never let me."

"How about your mom, do you think she wants something to drink?" Karyn looked to Shinta to see if she wanted something.

Shinta nervously nodded her head.

After Karyn replicated the drinks, Karyn put herself directly in front of the couch, not crowding Gavin's personal space, but enough to indicate a sense of intimacy and informality rather than impersonal distance. "Gavin, your mom brought you here today because she's worried about you. Sometimes we hear things, or people say things that they don't mean for us to hear, but they hurt us and we don't know what to do about it. But after awhile it's too hard for us to keep the secret and we need to tell somebody.

Gavin, your mom told me what your Dad said about you, and that you overheard him when he said it. I know if someone said they wished I wasn't born, it would hurt me and make angry. I woud also have a lot of questions. Your mom loves you and wants you to be able to talk to her when something is bothering you. She doesn't have to stay if you don't want her to, but I thought you and I could talk for a while."

He shrugged. It was obvious he didn't want to talk at all with his mum there. Shinta picked up on that and got to her feet. "You play with Karyn for a while, love. I will pick you up later." She slid out of the room.

Gavin looked at Karyn. "I am a burden to her."

Karyn was surprised to hear those words come out of a little boy so young. "Why do you say that Gavin?

"Because I am! She always has to mind me and then I am ill all the time as well." He kept his head down.

"Your mother loves you Gav. She wanted you so very much and was surprised, but prepared to be your Mom. It's the most important job to her right now, she loves taking care of you like a mother should. Right now she's enjoying every moment of it, for she knows you're growing up way too fast." She smiled.

"How come you never told your Mom that you heard your Dad say those things about you?"

"Just because...." He saw she would not be satisfied by that. "I didn't want to hurt her anymore. She's been hurt enough." He said softly. "Sometimes I think I should just go away and then she will be happy again."

Karyn swallowed hard to keep from tearing up. Not so long ago she had felt the same way while living with her Dad. For as long as she could remember he had made it very clear *she* was responsible for her mother's untimely death soon after giving birth to Karyn. Early on, Karyn had accepted responsibility for her Dad's alcoholism, abuse and depression. If *she* hadn't killed her mother, maybe her Dad wouldn't drink so much, yell so much, hit so much...she struggled to break free of that train of thought, but old habits die hard. It wasn't easy, but it was much easier for her now than it had been as recent as a year ago. Every year it became easier, but Karyn knew it would never completely go away.

Times like this when they were near her home always brought those painful memories to the forefront. But now, faced with the emotional stress of the murder, Michael's continued coma, his parents' sudden visit, Rose and the Casey Saga, another person might not be standing, let alone functioning.

"You're one of the only things in the world that does make her happy, Gav. Your Mom can't control what your Dad says and neither can you, but THAT makes her sad. Your Dad chose to say those things on his own because he was angry, not at you, or your Mom, but at himself. You could never hurt your Mom. She gets upset because she knows the things your Dad said aren't true and she doesn't like to see you get your feelings hurt. It's like when you get into an argument with one of your friends and he or she says 'I don't want to play with you anymore' or calls you a name. Those things make us angry and sad, and sometimes we intentionally say things to make the other person feel the same way he or she made us feel. Other people get upset to see people they love unhappy, but they know they can't control what other people say. Do you understand what I mean?"

He nodded uncertainly.

"How much do you know about your Dad, Gav?" Karyn wondered if Gavin knew the true reason why his parents weren't together. If he did, as explained in a way he was sure to understand by people who would honestly answer his questions, perhaps it would help him to understand why his father said the things he did. Right now, Gav was doing the completely normal thing of assuming he was responsible. Given the information he had, how else would a boy his age react? As painful as it might be for Shinta, Gavin needed honesty, not half-truths and avoidance.

"Not much. He is a commander and a hero." His eyes blazed. "Mum told me so. She always says that my dad is a great man and I should be proud to be his son." His face fell again. "But then why doesn't he want me?"

"Well, I think it's time your Mom talked to you about some things. I should tell you Gavin, some of it might be hard for you to understand and your Mom might not be ready to talk or share everything with you now. Your Dad hurt her a great deal, but she loves you and no matter how many bad memories she has of your Dad, she wouldn't trade them for anything, because if she didn't meet your father, she wouldn't have you. You're going to have to be patient with her, just like she's patient with you, ok?"

"Why would dad hurt my mum?" He said. "I don't understand. My mum is the greatest mum on earth. If... if he hurts her I will kill him!"

"Killing your father is not the best way to deal with your anger, Gav. Besides if you do, how will you ever get to know his side of things? Your mother and father loved each other, Gav, they just couldn't get along. It had nothing to do with you, your Mom just wants you to know the truth, so you won't feel like it's your fault. After she's told you her side and you've asked some questions, you and your Mom can decide of you want to try to talk to your father. Now let me go get your Mom."

"Watch that rude harlot with the claws!" The bare-it-all soldier told his subordinate. "I can't believe she'd insult Betazed with cloths. It stains the purity and unity of this holy event!"

"I think we should have denied her access because of those claws, personally. They look like a huge security risk." Another nude bodyguard replied telepathically.

Riley came up. His physic was not unlike the Greek statues of marble on Earth. Well toned, with a deep and rich tan, on many planets he could get away with being naked 24 hours a day no matter what the occasion.

"What seems to be the trouble, gentleman?" He asked his fellow guardsmen.

"Nothing, sir. Just that some targ decided to wear cloths to the wedding of the First Prince!" The first one scoffed.

"Well, good for her." Riley responded, smiling. "Zea Vicea wont like it, but there's not much we can do. Remember, it's an insult to us, but to them it's second nature. And there's no need to watch her too closely. I don't sense any hostility. Now, back to work, Zea Toa is about to take his vows. And guys, she doesn't look like that much of a knock out either. Small blessings."

Zea Vicea could not help herself. The Captain was quite the handsome lad. "Such fun, Robert. I am very impressed." She echoed in her mind.

"Now, mother, behave. He's still my commanding officer and the last thing I want to think about is him naked. It cannot help my career in Star Fleet." Lucas scolded his mother in their usually sarcastic manner of conversing.

"Very well, though I will have to catch up with him later, perhaps 'run into him' accidentally." The Mother of the First House kept her hands to her side, seductively. "This is so wonderful Imza. All these people, and only a few were so rude as to wear cloths... though I wish the Ferengi would have, seems like the only thing large on them are their ears."

Lucas tried hard not to laugh. It was hard and he was glad his back(side) was to the audience. Most of the Betazoids heard what was said and were suppressing their laughter. The ones closest to the Ferengi understood it the most and had their eyes watering from fighting the funny.
