Background:
Matthew Albrecht was born 8-11-2351, in a passenger car of a bullet train crossing the Alaskan-Siberian Bridge, to Bill and Margaret Albrecht. His mother gave birth three weeks prematurely, and there were no medically trained personnel aboard at the time. Matthew became ill, and spent nine days in Star Fleet Academy Hospital, under the care of many competent students. His illness delayed his Father's posting as Ambassador to Tellar, one of the founding planets of the Federation. The Tellarites named Matthew "Ghraauuph-gall," literally, "he for whom all must wait."

The Albrechts chose to enroll Matthew in private schools with large Tellarite and alien populations, in order to teach him love for other races and cultures. As Matthew matured, he excelled in all the traditional Tellarite subjects. At nine, he won an election for Student Body Speaker by performing well in a public debate. He held that title for eight more years, despite challenges from many proud Tellarite youths. He was among the top members of the debate team in his last four years of schooling.

Margaret Albrecht is an instructor in etiquette and voice. She has instructed children of many Tellarite heads-of-state in the science of 'proper' social behavior. Matthew spent many hours learning all she had to teach about proper public behavior-and constructed his own set of rules for fitting in to Tellar's culture. However, taking his mother's lessons resulted in him meeting and befriending many of Tellar's future rulers. Also, Margaret taught singing to Matthew and his friends. She was fascinated by the native folk music of the Tellarites, and incorporated much of it into her repertoire. Matthew, however, had other plans. He formed a quartet with other students, and performed such classics as 'Sweet Adeline' and 'Swanee River.' His parents enjoyed such harmless antics, and besides, their high-society and government friends really seemed to like it.

Matthew's studies began to lean toward applying his enjoyment of Tellar-style debate to Federation pursuits, namely, law. He began to study historic legal milestones of Earth and Tellar, and the Federation in general. His Final project for Senior Jurisprudence at Mruumph Academy on Tellar was 'The History and Legends of the Moltharugh/Hamphkor Debates of 1299bf.'

In 2369 Matthew Albrecht was accepted to Starfleet Academy, where he pursued courses relating to Federation Jurisprudence, Star Fleet Regulations, Debate, and Psychology. His counselors placed him in Security branch, where he had the most direct route to study and explore his talent for law. While there he discovered that Cardassian law fascinated him, and added that to his list of must-learns. While Albrecht continued to excel in his favored courses, his marks in other subjects were not extraordinary. After his graduation in 2372, his mentor and instructor, Doctor Philip Cole, arranged for him to spend his first six-month cruise assisting JAG Lt. Henry Lutonis on StarBase 117. Those six months allowed Ensign Matthew Albrecht to see a real lawyer in action, albeit from behind the stacks of documents and PADDs he constantly ran from deck to deck. As exciting as it was for Matthew, there proved to be little opportunity to excel, and even less opportunity for study. He chose to file those six months away as time well spent, and applied for posting to a Starship as a Security officer. Aboard the Galaxy he will have the time to invest in his continued study of Federation law, Terran law, Tellarite law, and Cardassian law.

Matthew was awarded the Medal of the Frode for his actions on the planet Dronegar, - defending the government building from invasion by hostile Rhomboid Soldiers. While there he met a brave Dronegarian woman named Akira, with whom he had shared some special relationship. They had faced death together, and come out victorious.

Shortly after that, Matthew was promoted to Lieutenant jg. Then in 2374, Matthew was again promoted to Full Lieutenant on board the USS Galaxy. Matthew's next promotion came the following year in 2375, when he made the rank of Lieutenant Commander while serving on board the USS Galaxy.

During the second and third years of Albrecht's term of duty on the Galaxy, he made many changes to his life. He became first assistant chief of security, then chief of security. He married Doctor Endris Gakor, a Tellarite woman and reknowned doctor, who discovered the cure for the Teresi virus that plagued both her, and many of her people. Together, Endris and Matthew had a child, Adam Delorbius Albrecht.

It was during this time that Matthew came to the conclusion that he belonged on a starship, acting as a leader. He was still fascinated by law and its application, and followed legal debate in its many venues. But, running his department and protecting his family and the Federation was his new purpose in life.

In late 2375, well after the end of the Dominion War, Matthew volunteered to serve as part of Admiral Thomas J. Casey's task force of Akira Class starships heading for the Neutral Zone. Matthew served as Executive Officer of the USS Leonard McCoy, and played an important role in insuring the mission was successful with minimal loss of life. As a reward for his efforts and fine service, Starfleet awarded Matthew with the Medal of Valor Citation upon his return to his post as Chief Security Officer of the USS Galaxy.

Personality profile:
Matthew Albrecht is a human male, 5'10", with chestnut hair and deep brown eyes. His complexion is olive, and he is rather thin. He enjoys the company of virtually anyone he meets. His good friend Gary Trabuco introduced him to weight lifting after he joined the USS Galaxy's crew. Now, Matthew is in better shape than ever -- though he doesn't take it to the point of body building.

He finds it difficult to curb his tendency to want to argue every point. He will debate anything when in the mood, playing the devil's advocate as often as not. His father once gave him a piece of advice that manages to keep Matthew from seriously damaging friendships and his career; "There is a time and place for everything, Ghraauuph-gall, and this isn't one of them!" Matthew can often be heard whispering to himself "time and place, time and place."

For the first year or so of duty on the Galaxy, Matthew pursued his studies and his personal life, not chasing promotions or recognition for his performance. Before long, however, he developed a taste for leadership. He volunteered for missions, and made himself an example for other new officers. Eventually, he began earning the promotions that he had, at first, wished to avoid.

Matthew feels that the only appropriate use for anger is for effect. Anger is a tool to be used in the theatrics of a courtroom. If it would suit his purposes, he might fake anger when necessary. Unfortunately, once Matthew suffered his first personnel losses in his own department, and the mirror-universe version of his wife nearly succeeded in destroying the Galaxy, he discovered that he did have the ability to get carried away by actual anger. He has not yet seen a counsellor about his newfound difficulties with his temper brought out by stress.

Matthew is now married to Doctor Endris Gakor-Albrecht, with whom he has a young son named Adam Delorbius. The two officers are quite happy together, though they are not necessarily very demonstrative in public.

Special notes:
Since Matthew spent most of his life living on Tellar, he has grown attached to their customs and language. Strange customs of Tellarites include eating from the same dish at casual gatherings, greeting others by rubbing cheeks, and loudly announcing the arrival of a friend at an event. Matthew will engage in these customs occasionally, forgetting himself.

When not on duty, Matthew dresses very casually. He will wear sleeveless tunics, short pants or shorts, and sandals. Enjoys an occasional mud bath with friends.
