Background:
Kira was born on the unique planet, Gemworld, in Sector 691 to Philtak Murphy, brother of the Senior Engineer of the Elaysians, and Dupanza Murphy in one of the Elaysian enclaves. 

Gemworld is populated by 2 native species and 4 dimensionally-transplanted races, which are not contactable at most times due to a lack of caring about subspace communications with others. Many eons ago, the planet was once a Class M world like Earth but gradually as the world degraded, the six races joined together to conceive, design and implement something that is unique throughout Known Space. Systematically, the planetary core, magma and mantle was converted into a empty air-filled maze of crystalline structures linked with a nutrient supply coming from a ancient & complex structure known as the Shell that was developed by the Ancients - the technologically-superior ancestors of the current Gemworld residents.

The Shell performs many functions, ranging from providing an energy & nutrient supply powered by dark-matter collectors to keeping the fragile atmosphere inside Gemworld using a complex series of redundant forcefields. Due to a lack of a central spinning planetary core, gravity as known on other planets does not exist as there are no large enough objects. Over countless ages, the six races biologically became used to this lack of gravity and thrived in it.

The oldest of Gemworld's natives species, the Lipul, resemble small worms that travel through the internal nutrient supplies that keep the crystals alive and able to grow when needed. They have the unique ability to travel via dreamships and were the ones who made contact with the Federation. When the planet was still a planet in the regular sense and there were only two species, the Lipuls used their dreamships to travel to another dimension that they found was full of life. Choosing from the many forms, they managed to obtain samples of DNA from certain species and copy them on Gemworld. From that experiment, they created the 4 transplanted races that have flourished since. However, they awakened a powerful alien entity that was beyond their comprehension and had been entrusted to protect the life in the other dimension. The Lipuls quickly pulled back and hoped that it couldn't follow.

The second of the native species, the Frills, are carnivores resembling giant moray eels with big teeth and provide the necessary function of disposing of Gemworld's dead, since the planet lacks any ground apart from the hard crystals. The Frills delight in practical jokes and have been known to play some elaborate jokes at times.

The four transplanted races are the Alpusta, the Yilterns, the Gendelii and the Elaysians (of which Kira is a member of).

The Alpusta resemble big black spiky sea urchins with long tentacles, while the Yilterns are tiny bat-like creatures that travel in large groups for life - flying so close that they seem like one creature from a distance.

Of all Gemworld's species, the Elaysians most closely resemble humans and are the only ones who have shown any desire for continual communication with off-worlders. While the other species have natural means of travelling, the Elaysians do not and instead use technology in the form of hoverpads and jetpacks to travel around their world. Normally, they hold hands in a chain with one member holding on tight to the travelling vehicle.

The Gendelii are the most unusual species in that are a form of intelligent brown fungus that grows over and in one large part of Gemworld's crystal structure. They communicate by having a person consume a small part of the Gendelii.

When she was very young, Kira became fascinated with the Shell and followed her father's brother Zuka Juno, who was the Senior Engineer of the Elaysians, around - continually asking questions about how the Shell worked and how its programming worked. Later in life when she started going to school, she decided that there was more to life then working with the Shell.

When Kira was 16, she decided that she wanted to go and explore the unknown outside Gemworld's confines and stowed away on a Federation freighter. After travelling for a few months on various freighters as a jack-of-all-trades, she reached a small planet in the Karsian Nebula.

An incident in a bar led to her being knocked unconscious with bad concussion and sold to a bunch of Orion smugglers. When she woke up 28 hours later, she found herself stripped naked and tied to a bulkhead of some alien ship's hold with various devices attached to intimate parts of her body. Nineteen other women in similar circumstances shared the hold with her until the Orions arrived at their destination, where they promptly sold their cargo to a tacky Orion slave pit. The pit owner quickly decided that Kira was quite beautiful but didn't like her forehead ridges, which were removed without Kira's consent. The Orions found that she was from a zero-gravity world, and created a special zero-grav act which became very popular. Consequently, she spent a lot of time being fondled and used.

About a year after Kira had become a slave, she managed to convince a stupid Ferengi captain to buy her from the Orions. The Ferengi captain was most pleased with his purchase, despite the high cost the Orions made him pay, and took her to his ship while Kira was forced to walk naked behind him through the starport. Once aboard the Marauder which had been named "Big Pile of Gold-Pressed Latinumn", she was left mostly to herself with a couple of exotic dancing sessions each week in the Marauder's main mess hall. Being a female on a male-only Ferengi ship also meant that she was not allowed clothing and regularly had to discourage the Ferengi from fondling and groping her.

During an attack from Romulans, the Ferengi ship was badly damaged and all medical personnel were killed. Despite the captain and crew's reluctance, they allowed Kira to start reading through the Ferengi medical database, which included a stolen first-year Starfleet Academy medical treatise. She managed to fumble her way through  without killing anyone and as a reward, the captain covertly arranged an deal with Kira for her to buy her freedom using back-paid wages that she would have earnt had she been a male Ferengi from the start. Realising that she wasn't just a piece of meat, she decided to do something with her life instead of drifting around.

After being left on a small isolated station, she worked as a dancer for a month until she scrapped up enough credits to catch a lift on a dingy cargo freighter destined for Deep Space 4. On the Federation station, she found a group of people that she wanted to fit in with - Starfleet. Approaching the Federation personnel in the medical bays, she arranged to do part-time work while brushing up on her education via a correspondence Academy pre-med course.

Eventually, she was able to pass the Academy Entrance Exam and get a recommendation from Deep Space 4's Chief Medical Officer before catching a lift to Earth on the USS Bounty.

Her first year studies proceeded very well academically, with Kira getting high marks in all her Medical courses and passes in the rest. During this time, she decided to specialise

However, her practical joking flourished wildly in her academy years and she was reprimanded for all sorts of incidents. The first major incident was when she was found naked in a cage with a Targ and three naked Orion females after some other cadets had gotten her drunk. The Academy investigation cleared Kira of any major charges but she still received a reprimand for allowing herself into that position.   This was followed shortly with a practical joke against the Trill community at the Academy.

After consultation with Starfleet Medical, the Rigel Colonies and Starfleet Academy, Kira agreed to a transfer to the high-gravity worlds of Rigel II and IV where an Academy facility existed that could cover her second year as a way of getting her used to gravity.

A few weeks after reaching the Rigel colony facility, Kira proceeded to hack into the facility's communications array and leave a program behind that superimposed pictures of naked women on all outgoing communications. As punishment, the Commandant ordered that Kira's anti-grav suit was to be locked away for a week. That week of intense gravity on her body led her to the decision to not pull any more pranks on Rigel. While on Rigel, she picked up a big light brown teddy bear which she named Benny. So that Benny won't fly away, Benny wears a wrist-strap on his left arm attached by elastic cord to another wrist-strap for Kira.

Arriving back on Earth for her third year, Kira found that Earth's gravity was much easier to handle due to her time on Rigel. Even so, the Academy continued with allowing her to have special zero-gravity quarters. A reprimand followed within days when a spot-check on cadet quarters found a smuggled cache of Romulan Ale in Kira's quarters. Her practical joking returned also, and she received a reprimand when all her lecturers were suddenly demoted to Yeoman by the Academy Computers and Security tracked back to her terminal.  She lashed out verbally at a lecturer and gave him the finger many times, receiving a reprimand plus forced counselling. A reckless hoverboarding incident around the campus led to Kira's seventh reprimand.

Kira made friends with a Native American woman from the Apache tribe and spent many weekends in one of the Apache reservations, learning about their culture.

During this time, Kira was given the opportunity to do a six month combined-ER & paediatrics rotation in the San Fransisco Memorial Hospital. While she enjoyed the fast-pace of the ER, her friendly, extroverted and joking personality endeared her with any children she was helping.

The next year when Kira found out that a senior officer was used his position to sleep with one of Kira's friends for better marks and had reneged on the deal, she decked the officer in the middle of the Academy mess hall before heading to Security to report the officer. The officer was voluntarily discharged out of the fleet, but the Academy was still forced to give Kira a reprimand for striking a senior officer plus more counselling.

After the second set of counselling sessions, the counsellors suggested that Kira take up acting, since she was so good at acting in the counselling sessions. She followed through, and was in quite a few stage productions, including helping with writing some new ones.

The next reprimand wasn't Kira's fault, but she still received one. During a revenge practical joke by a friend, Kira's clothing was transported away, leaving her standing naked in the middle of the Academy parade-ground during a diplomatic assembly, even though she wasn't embarrassed by this. Both Kira and her friend received a strong dressing down by the Academy Commandant and reprimanded with the loss of a semester's grades.

Finally after completing her studies, she was assigned to the M'Benga class rescue & hospital cruiser, USS Greyhawk. A year of duty on the Greyhawk let Kira see a lot of the galaxy as the vessel travelled between various hot-spots caused by the Dominion, normally under heavy escort guards. During that time, she picked up a Tykellian pigeon that she named Fooey - a bird that closely resembles Terran pigeons and lives on a relatively unknown moon that shifts between just enough gravity to hold an atmosphere for some months and a crushing 3Gs in others.

On an away mission, Kira disobeyed orders from the first officer of the Greyhawk and stayed behind to protect a group of Bajoran children from some Dominion soldiers. The captain was forced to reprimand her for disobeying orders, but also recommended that she receive the Prantares Ribbon plus a Citation of Conspicuous Gallantry.

A short time later, the Greyhawk was attacked by some Dominion ships and during the battle, Kira risked her life to rescue some engineers from a plasma conduit explosion. The captain put her in for a commendation of bravery and a promotion. When the Greyhawk stumbled into a starbase, the crew found out that the ship would be in dry-dock for 6 months for extensive repairs.

While Kira didn't want to leave her friends on the Greyhawk, she realised her talents could be used elsewhere and requested a transfer to another ship. Her request was approved and she headed to the USS Galaxy as a Lt Jg.

In 2377, Kira received a promotion to full Lieutenant while serving on board the USS Galaxy.

During a Borg invasion of the Galaxy, Fooey was violently killed by the Borg. Kira became hysterical when Security alerted her and she is currently scheduled for regular Counselling appointments.

Personality profile:
Kira has an hyperactive, optimistic, energetic and extroverted personality at most times. She takes a lot of serious things for granted and treats life as a joke, which tends to get her in trouble often. She just loves playing practical jokes on people, and her giggle became well-known on the Academy campus. Kira has a very forgetful memory and very low concentration, being easily distracted.

Due to her experiences, she has a strong passion against slavery of any form, and should be watched carefully when in situations involving slavery. A counsellor at the academy put in her record that 'Kira seems to be the sort of person who would ignore the Prime Directive to stop slavery.'

Psychological Profile:
At times, Kira has a tendency to become very moody and depressed, not opening upto anyone. During her Academy years, the counsellors worked with her to try and overcome the effects of two years forced labour as an Orion sex slave. The emotional scars will probably never leave her, and she wakes up screaming from terrible nightmares at least once or twice every few weeks. Kira has a very forgetful memory and very low concentration, being easily distracted.

Her Academy psych profile states that Kira has no ambition for power or control, and lacks any future goals. This is one of the reasons she drifted a lot in her teen years.

When Kira gets mad or angry, she has a bad temper and tends to lash out with vile, crude and foul language. After one incident, she was forced to attend mandatory anger-management counselling sessions. Note from Academy Counsellors: Cadet Murphy shows more improvement then she should, and this may point to her being a good actress rather then any actual improvement. Supplementary Note: Cadet Murphy is a VERY good actress and should join the Academy Drama Society. However, Kira is back in Counselling for severe depression and anxiety after Fooey's death.

When she loses, she tends to pout and sulk.

During her stay on the Ferengi Marauder, she developed a lack of modesty that hasn't seem to go away yet and an uninhibited nature towards sexuality and her body. After a few incidents in her first year, she learnt  that other crewmembers become distracted with her immodesty and uninhibited nature. She tries not to get in a situation like that but doesn't always manage it successfully.

Physical Profile:
Kira has long wavy brunette hair that tangles easily, especially considering she allows it 'go where it wants to'. Her eyes are brown and she has a small body frame with lots of curves in all the right places.

During her time with the Orions, her V-shaped Elaysian forehead ridges were surgically removed without her consent. However, she made a conscious decision not to have the procedure reversed, so it is a continual reminder to her of that time.

Gemworld is an extreme low-gravity world, and as a native, Kira's body was designed for zero gravity. While this allowed her to totally ace her Academy Zero-Grav training, it did nothing to stop her weakness in gravity conditions. Despite 6 years away from Gemworld and a full year on the high-gravity worlds of Rigel, Kira still needs to wear an full-customised anti-gravity suit while in non-zero grav conditions. The suit hides nothing of her curvy body to the imagination.

Because of her hyperactivity and zero-gravity upbringing, Kira has to exercise frequently. Kira is also on a specially designed diet to try and combat low-weight problems caused by gravity on a body not designed for gravity.

Kira has a silver ring through her belly button, which can be seen making a little bump in her anti-grav suit if you look hard enough, and her ears are pierced. A tattoo of a bow sits just above her backside.

Special notes: Special permission from the Captain and Chief Engineer was given to allow her quarters to be permanently reduced to zero-gravity. Her replicator has had its programming adjusted to produce all liquids in special thermally-contained sip-pouches and she normally eats meals in common areas. Her bathroom can be set to zero-g or one-eighth of Earth Normal with the tap of a button or voice request by Kira. Kira's quarters are located on Deck 8, Section 05, Cabin 021. Even though there is a hammock installed in her bedroom, she prefers to sleep floating in mid-air without any restraining items, including clothing.
