It was a family in Florida on Terra that came forward, the middle aged couple had two children of their own - an older son of 4 and a daughter of 2. The couple spoke fluent Ktarian along with Federation Standard and Betazoid. The Chief Medical Officer on the Orbital Yards approved the couple after an extensive background check and handed over the Ktarian youngster, the Betazoid couple were glad to have her.
Tesaria was raised as one of their own and kept the forename given to her by the CMO and inherited the family's surname - Polarasi. She was brought up to speak Ktarian as were the other two children, who took a little longer to adapt. Tess was never made to feel left out - that is until she turned five years old and began to attend school. Her Federation Standard was very limited and composed of what she had heard visitors to the house saying and most of which she didn't even understand. A special Ktarian tutor was brought in for the girl and throughout the first year she taught Tess to read and write in Ktarian as well as handle basic arithmetic. As she was Ktarian her mind worked quickly and she was fast to pick up this, and by the end of the second year of her schooling she had a very basic grasp of Federation Standard, able to tell people her name, age and where she lived and able to ask others for that information along with being able to name some everyday items such as a chair, door, table and house.
As Tess progressed through school she showed an ability to learn quickly and she had picked up Federation Standard pretty well by the time she finished elementary school, so she could better interact with the other pupils. Her Ktarian tutor stayed on through her later school years, however, just to mahe her feel more comfortable. As she began to learn computer operations she showed a great interest in how these devices worked and it wasn't long before she had convinced her Ktarian tutor to show her by taking one apart. It was a team effort to put back together as Ms. Kamero, her tutor, had not paid much attention to where everything went but eventually they succeeded.
At home Tess enjoyed the environment of having a sister close to her age who was going through exactly the same things she was during teenhood and who she could get advice off anf give advice too, all the time having a big brother to look up to and look after them both. When she was 14, her older brother Romano, joined Starfleet Academy - he stayed at home rather than on campus though and gave the interested Tess regular updates of what he did and what the Academy was like. Two years later, at age 16, Tess decided she wanted to follow her brother whom she looked up to and joined a Starfleet Preparation College. Her sister, however decided to go on to study at a local University in the hope of becoming a member of the Daystrom Institute someday.
Tess was given all sorts of advice from her brother throughout the next two years and she made sure she took most of it. She thoroughly enjoyed her studies and the team activities during her college years and was half-sad to leave it behind until she found that most of her friends were indeed going to go on to join the Academy. However her brother also graduated this year, salutatorian in fact. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Livingston as a helm officer and pilot. She missed him sourly for the next few months, but they kept regular contact, and still do until this day.
Her time at the Academy was thoroughly enjoyable, her sizeable group of friends getting together often to enjoy themselves and go out on the town. There was a big fuss in her second year about a Prince joining the Academy, she later learned that he was the zea toa of Betazed, a title she had come to respect from her parents and their heritage. By now, with a proficient grasp in Betazoid she made it her business to run into the First Prince and did so a couple of times, they had lunch once, which was an honour to her, but were really nothing more than associates on passing. Wanting to pursue her desire to know how things work but still wanting to follow in her brother's footsteps she chose Operations as her major and Helm as her minor.
When she graduated in 2373, she had to say goodbye to her boyfriend of the past three years which caused her some heartache. She was assigned to Utopia Planitia, but when she learned they had a Command Academy campus she applied and was accepted. She continued to do her duties as an operations officer but to a lesser extent while she studied at the satelite campus on board. Upon graduation from the Command School she was given a new assignment, a Starship this time, the U.S.S. Sutherland, Nebula class. She enjoyed her tour there, making friends in her department within the first week, and later romanitcally seeing the Executive Officer for 6 months.
In 2376, when she heard of her transfer to the U.S.S. Galaxy, a ship whose name was respected by most, if not all, of Starfleet, she was very happy. The sadness of leaving her friends behind was reduced by the fact that her one time classmate Ensign Tabatha Robertson was to join her on board. She accepted the transfer with her head high and proud.
Tess' voice is usually soft and gentle, the only exceptions being when her authority is being undermined or if she is aiming to be intimidating.
Her cooking skills are notable, she can cook most things so long as she has insturctions for those dishes she is not familiar with. She insists on cooking when food is mentioned and prefers the real thing to a meal fresh formt he replicator. She only has alcohol if she is on a date or if she attends a social occasion where the majority of the participants appear to be drinking.
Tesaria had one of her poems published in the Ktarian and Betazoid books of talented youth and any time her writing comes to someone's attention she seems to have a copy of one of those books to show off to them.
