Suder has had an uneventfully life, with the exception of the attack on Starbase 475 by the Maquis. The station was suddenly attacked by several ships claiming to be merchants wanting R&R. When shields were lowered, the attack began. With direct hits, the primary phaser couplings were destroyed and the torpedo guidance system was damaged. The shields generator was knocked off-line, and before repairs could be made, the station was boarded. Suder was in his room when he heard phaser fire outside of his door. He was 23 when this happened. His father, had taught him how to survive in battle and had showed him everything he knew about killing someone, he always said "-It might mean the difference between life and death someday"
Although Suder's parents weren't in Starfleet, they lived aboard this station as residents until they left on a transport to Risa. That transport was later ambushed by an unknown Alien ship and the contents and crew were beamed away. That ship was never seen again.
Suder left his quarters with a phaser in hand and saw two Starfleet Officers by his door, injured and then he was attacked by two men looking for medical supplies. Suder managed to stun one of them before the other knocked the phaser out of his hand. He was then forced to deal with hand-to-hand combat. After a quick hit to the Bolian's nerve point between his shoulder and neck, and then slamming him into the bulkhead, Suder quickly overpowered the taller, stronger alien. He then made his way to the cargo bay after realizing that this was a typical Maquis attack. When he arrived, there was a phaser fight in the cargo bay. Suder took cover and decided to help the out-numbered Starfleet crew. The other officers were occupied all over the station and that was also another Maquis attack, to scatter the defenses so that the targeted area's the Maquis wanted were vulnerable. He managed to sneak his way behind one of them and stun him with his phaser before being attacked again, this time by someone he knew. Starfleet Officer turned Maquis, Lieutenant Jennifer Carlestone. When she recognized Suder, she knocked him down, which resulted in a serious head injury.
When Suder came around, he was in sickbay. Seven of the Maquis terrorists had been captured, two because of Suder. The CO on the station was impressed with Suder's handling of the situation and offered him a chance to join Starfleet. Suder excepted after a lot of thought and then took the USS Excelsior to Starfleet Academy.
At the Academy, Suder discovered a talent for engineering. He graduated second in his class and was very competitive with another Cadet, Cadet John Forester. He had gotten into a brawl with him once on campus and was confined to quarters for several days. When he graduated he moved on to the Starfleet Engineer Corpse. He had insight full ideas and thoughts on ship systems and operations and was involved with the Sovereign class development.
After four years, he was transferred to the USS Malinche for two years before returning to Starfleet Head-Quarters because the majority of Starfleet officers must sooner or later get starship experience. Suder thought this a chance to explore space and try and find out who took his parents and to find out if they were alive or dead. He served his two years and only got to know the senior officers and several other crewmen on board. While he was returning to Starfleet HQ, he was transferred to the USS Lakota due to the discovery of the wormhole leading to the Gamma Quadrant. He served on the ship for two years before requesting a transfer to the USS Galaxy.
In 2375, Suder was promoted to Lieutenant jg on board the USS Galaxy. Later that same year, during the heat of the Dominion war, Suder was again promoted to Full Lieutenant. At the conclusion of the Dominion conflict, Suder received the Starfleet Medal of Honor Citation. Shortly after the war, Suder received another Citation, the Starfleet Medal of Valor, for his efforts on a mission into the Romulan Neutral Zone with Admiral Thomas Casey on board the USS Odyssey.
Near the end of 2375, Suder was promoted to Assistant Chief Engineer by his new Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Commander K'Eytyanna Samara.
In Mid 2376, Suder was again promoted to Lieutenant Commander and became the Chief Engineer of the USS Galaxy.
In January 2378, after there were several reassignments by the new Galaxy Captain John Brhode, Suder was made Second Officer.
